Top tips for finding a cheap flight out of the United States

  • When you’re booking your flight to New Zealand from the US, you’ll most likely be flying into Auckland, which is home to New Zealand’s largest international airport. There are a handful of other airports in New Zealand, but those airports mainly receive traffic from destinations in Japan, Singapore and Fiji.
  • The currency of New Zealand is the New Zealand Dollar, and exchanges can be made at all New Zealand Airports. If you’re traveling to Auckland, one of the most popular places to exchange money and get the best possible rate is the collection of money changers located on Queen Street in the city’s main business district.
  • Although most flights from the US to Christchurch will have at least one stop, booking your flight to New Zealand through this city instead of Auckland can give you better access to the North and South Islands of New Zealand, giving you more bang for your buck. Routes to Christchurch are available with Fiji Airways.
  • If you’ll be traveling to Australia after your time in New Zealand, you’ll have several options of airports to fly out of. Airports in New Zealand that operate flights to Australia include the Dunedin Airport (DUD), Queenstown Airport (ZQN) and Wellington Airport (WLG), giving you more options for conveniently traveling throughout the area.
  • After flying to New Zealand, getting around the country via public transportation can be extremely limiting on the areas you’re able to conveniently visit. There are many popular destinations that aren’t reachable by bus. For this reason, it can be extremely beneficial to rent a car in the airport of Auckland, for example, to get around during your stay.

Boarding instructions on one leg of my journey were not well communicated at the gate (Melbourne to Auckland)

Pros: "The attention of the crew is very good. They are very friendly and, on the return trip there was attention of Argentine hostess. The meal options are very good as the vegetarian menu I previously requested. Fly NZ30 ON FEBRUARY 28 th"
Cons: "The seat I reserved paying additional dollars to have no one in front of me is bad. The table has little stability and the space that one acquires to stretch the legs is dangerously occupied by food carts that pass very close. The seats are tight. And the great kindness of the crew succumbs to the bad Argentine behavior of occupying the empty seats. On the flight back to Bs.As. many overweight people were overcrowded by the bad luck they had when buying their tickets, however, thin people, who did not pay for better places, were located in an empty seat where, usually, they go familiar with babies and traveled peacefully in a place that did NOT correspond. We all understand that the spaces are small but they should take better care of the passengers and, by common sense, if there are free seats, offer them to those who for physical reasons and their full rows are uncomfortable throughout the trip which, in itself, is very long . I suggest that you put options of Latin Spanish doblabas movies on the flights you make from Buenos Aires to Auckland. FLY NZ30 on February 28 th"
Cons: "Waited 55 minutes for baggage claim in Auckland. No reason given. I expect better service from Air New Zealand even though I understand the baggage handler’s are different group"
Pros: "The food we were served was of excellent quality which is so unusual when it comes to airline meals, crew and service was great as well. Obviously Air NewZealand have a far better understanding of what there customer base require compared to their competitors"
Cons: "Could not fault anything"
Cons: "Terrible service and all around outcome. Would not fly Air New Zealand again"
Pros: "Nicest crew on the planet. Restrooms stayed clean despite 12 hour flight"
Pros: "Crew was okay. Nothing special but not bad."
Cons: "The WiFi didn’t work! Don’t advertise it if it is not working. Even setting it up is far too much work/confusing."
Pros: "Food was reasonable and staff as amazing as ever."
Cons: "The flight was extremely packed making the experience a bit less comfortable. The transit through LA was chaos, although and explanation was given including an apology."
Pros: "slightly more roomy than most carriers"
Cons: "since it was a Friday during Lent, there could have been non-meat options on the meals. One lunch and one supper offered only chicken and beef both times."
Pros: "Wellington airport is the most accessible and relaxed I’ve used, and the Air New Zealand Check-in process was the easiest I’ve used so far."

Delayed over 6 hours then sat on tarmac for over an hour

Pros: "The crew was very lovely in flight, the ground crew in Portland did as well as they could under the circumstances"
Cons: "I arrived an hour before my flight- after boarding began they closed the doors to reboot the engines and try and "fix" a problem with the landing gear. The flight kept being delayed with no explanation of whether or not it would even fly. We were told missed connections would be dealt with but they weren't. It ended up two hours late, had I known I would have gone to eat somewhere and avoided the terrible egg mushroom thing served on the flight. After landing , many were left with no idea how to get to their destinations and no recourse. The crew was great in the flight, though. Whoever maintains your aircraft should make sure problematic aircraft not be used to transport tens of thousands of your dollars. Very disappointing, considering this was my first flight with Hawaiian, I had heard they were the best. Noteworthy though, that my trip TO Portland with your airline was top notch. The return, however , leaves me with a bad taste and I don't think I will choose it again"
Pros: "It was nice to have a meal and complimentary drinks."
Pros: "Rum punch and boarding was gread"
Cons: "I would have liked to purchase a Leo Hawaii experience in on the Maui end"
Pros: "Watching movies of choice at finger tip."
Cons: "Seats didn’t recline properly, you have to put some strength in it. Would feel sorry if your not strong enough to push back."
Pros: "Just the friendly service"
Cons: "Well the only thing I didn’t like was my own fault I should of not of been cheap and got the extra comfy but I love Hawaiian airline l"
Pros: "The best airline. But they need to straighten up the airport procedures to get to their gate."
Pros: "Complimentary Guava Cocktail at the end of the flight, friendly crew staff, excellent boarding system, great pilot"
Cons: "Most movies were “paid” selections so I didn’t even bother, seats were very narrow even for a shinny person like myself. It seems that they installed more row of seats than much needed restrooms. They only had two in the back, only two in the middle of the economy section, I don’t know about the coach class and the first class cabin but as far as the economy class that was it, and that’s terrible. That is less than a half restrooms normally available on other carrier I’ve known. They should learn from ANA or Canada Air. The cabin temperature seems to be rather cold throughout the flight, yet there was no pillow (only paid one) nor blanket available."
Pros: "The crew was exceptional."
Cons: "While I appreciate that Hawaiian Airlines serves a meal, unfortunately, my sandwich was mushy and unappealing."
Pros: "My flight had a seven hour delay and therefore we took a charter flight to our destination. Our luggage was not retrievable."

Seats were roomy. Staff was great offering free drinks and refills constantly. Everything was very clean.

Reclining seats with leg rest! Amazing flight crew! Loved the food! Everything was perfect!

The crew was very friendly and welcoming. Boarding was calm and organized. Take off and Landing was perfect and in time.

my luggage was damage. even if i put fragile in my bags. i was disappointed.

Flying with Air Tahiti Nui is always the best flight experience.

Great alternative to AF or Delta for nonstop flights from LA to Paris.

The trip was seamless. Attendees are wonderful. Plane brand new.

Pros: "The leg room and the recline was the best I’ve had in a budget economy class, and I was not expecting a snack and two full meals. They also gave each of us a flower when boarding. It was a charming touch."
Pros: "Amazing, brand new plane. State of the art business class seats. Nice crew"
Pros: "They bumped me off they also told me I had no insurance when I thought I bought the insurance from him flight. They are talking to see if I can get on the plane for Monday at 1:30 so I'm still at the LAXM very upset when I thought I bought insurance I had a important business in Paris and then I was heading out to Iraq to our mission day so I'm very upset right now thank you is there something you can do to make sure"

check-in at sydney was a bit disorganized. one well-dressed woman appeared to be in charge, staring at others who were not ready and checking in passengers. one person at business class check-in, was sarcastic and only mentioned the gate assignment, no bother to mention the lounge access etc... the crew on board was stellar. so polite, helpful and respectful. the meals were great, endless beverages, and the a350 is spectacular with the seat/bed, amenity kit, television, bedding, headphones. first time flying fiji airways- honolulu- fiji-sydney, and sydney-fiji-los angeles, all in business class. their fares are much more affordable than other carriers. hopefully, one day, they will use a widebody aircraft from honolulu- fiji, since it is a nearly 7-hour flight and the 737-max 8, although comfortable, would be better with a widebody plane.

I never went and I’ve tried calling to cancel the flight see if I can postpone for another date but every time they’ll transfer me to another personal.

Pros: "On time, nice crew, clean aircraft."
Cons: "Check-in agt at bag drop was a sour puss. She could've been a bit nicer."
Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "Seats are uncomfortable. Service was not very kind on either of our Fiji air flights. I honestly will avoid flying with Fiji air in the future—much better airlines to choose from."
Cons: "350 pound passenger placed next to us in window seat. Passenger took over 1/3 of my wife's seat. Flight was full, no effort made by crew to correct situation."
Pros: "The crew were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating."
Cons: "The plane is old and had no screens, so there was no entertainment option."
Pros: "Good price but not too good services"
Cons: "Better service management to avoid delay flight. Invest in better quality seats for passengers plus better entertainment value to increase more passenger"
Pros: "Friendly crew. Cloth seats were pretty comfortable with adjustable wings on sides of headrest. Movies were mostly older and good PG at worst."
Cons: "Cloth seats were pretty comfortable with adjustable wings on sides of headrest BUT very cramped in Basic Economy. I’m short and couldn’t even put my seat back for entire 11 hours because man behind me was so tall. Meals did not include any salad but did have small amount of veggies."
Pros: "I liked the complimententary pillows and blankets."
Cons: "The crew was not friendly at all. I had to ask for snacks from the crew in the back of the plane. The seats were not comfortable and the entertainment was dated and old."
Pros: "I love that the planes are loaded from back to front!!! I wish airlines in the states will follow suit. It seems that this makes the most sense."
Pros: "The flight was on time... that is about all..."
Cons: "Too late to download app once on plane so stuck for hours without entertainment on a long flight. They wanted to charge for most everything. First class was not as good as economy on other airlines. I have no idea why anyone would select United on purpose. I know I will not pick them again..."
Pros: "The on-time arrival"
Cons: "Having to check our bags due to lack of overhead space which was announced before anyone boarded the aircraft. Had they provided our bags to us when we exited the plane, or told us in advance that there would be no space and they would be offering free bag check, that would have mitigated the situation. Instead they wait till the last minute costing us valuable time. In the future, they should pay us the 25 dollar bag fee when they arbitrarily make this decision."
Pros: "There were too many people. It seems United is trying to put more seats to make more money. Giving more uncomfortable to passengers."
Cons: "The company forced me to put my luggage out of the plane, which I found strange. On my first flight in this roundtrip they let me have my carry-on without any problems. If they are going to have policies, they should be standards and they should stick to one thing instead of doing different things in different flights."
Cons: "We sat on the tarmac for two hours because of a mechanical issue."
Pros: "Friendly crew, efficient boarding, easy flight"
Cons: "Nothing on tv unless you pay for it. Like, nothing."
Cons: "I had a basic economy seat. Even though I had seat 7D I was zone 5 to board. Because I was basic I was not permitted to bring a bag. I wasn't able to check in. I had to go to the desk to prove I didnt have a bag to check. When I got on the plane because I was zone 5 there wasnt any space above for my personal item and the staff was rude and unhelpful. Never again."
Cons: "The yogurt that was served in business class was out of date by 10 days"
Cons: "Missed my connection due to late flight arrival and had to fly out the next day."
Cons: "UA check-in staff in NRT was very rude. We had reserved seats when we booked the tickets over Kayak by paying about $15. UA staff said they didn't know that, its not in their system. They implied we were cheating because UA always charges about $200+ for reserving seat. They even didn't want to listen and look at the receipt we had. What he said in terrible English was "That is not my business""I'm busy" So my daughter and I had to seat separately in order to seat next to aisle. UA will be my last choice to fly."
Cons: "The flight was over an hour delayed out of Frankfurt. This was a flight operated by United Airlines. The outlets to charge cell phones did not work consistently. There were no individual monitors to watch movies of choice."
