We flew premium economy which was a delight for the cost of the tickets. The supplied seat headphones could be improved for better fidelity and noise suppression. Everything else about our flight from Auckland to LA, in our price range, was outstanding.

The first time we were informed about the delay as a group was after we had entered the aircraft."

Pros: "We fly a lot and have flown American, European, Asian airlines but this has to be the best experienxe ever. First, their checkin is all automated, even baggage. That makes the lines really short. Their staff standing by to help at every moment. When we used another airline in Australia Jetstar, we waited in line for one hour and then were scolded for being late! We even had to pay for our water and the staff took turn scolding us over our overhead bin stuff. Boarding of NZ airline was so comfortable, without pushing or crowds. Staff always welcoming you with a smile. Seats are wide and we were given free drinks, free headohones, and wait for it.... free dinner! And all served so politey and in the most gracious manner as if we were their guests. We were so taken back by their service and this was the aecond time we have flown with them in 10 days. My young daughter thought may be their staff gets paid more so they seem to be so much more happy. I also think that there is something when you dehumanize your customers by charging them for water and being uncaring to their needs. The staff also starts to treat the customers as cattle. Besides Southwest Airlines, I havent come across one another airline where the staff treat their custmoers with reapect while charging them for water. So airlines, take note. I would pay $50 per ticket extra just to be in NZ airline."

Cons: "Felt like I was flying a US carrier - very little room between the rows. I was surprised by this, as I thought that non-US carriers generally don’t pack their planes. I was surprised, but not inconvenienced by this, since it was a morning flight and only 3 hours gate-to-gate."
Pros: "I was recovering from a cold and didn't anticipate having ear problems but during decent I began to experience some pain. It was all new to me as I had never been through this before. Fortunately the crew was kind and they provided a sinus decongestant in a cup for me to sniff and breath in so the smell could open up my nasal passages and it helped a bit."

This did too but missed some steps, ie printing luggage tags which you needed to print yourself and attach and place on a conveyor belt. Travelling Premium Economy with Qantas Club and was not given access to the Qantas Lounge in LAX, NOT impressed. The rest of the flight was as good as it can get in Premium Economy, not wrecked when I got home LOL..
The water bottle and good headphones is a good feel-good factor for the those that like it. The entertainment system and touch screen needs some work. Would’ve loved snacks available for pick up. There were none when I went - twice.
Flight delayed by 4 hours due to cross-winds at Devonport. That bit is understandable.... however I understand the crosswinds dropped in less than four hours and it was a combination of weather + crewing issues. But the real problem was that my flight was originally scheduled for Launceston and they cancelled my Launceston flight, so I opted to go to Devonport instead. If Qantas hadn't have cancelled my Launceston flight, I would have been home much earlier as the Launceston Airport didn't have the crosswind issues. Qantas - get your act together and treat your customers with respect!
The air hostess was really kind and friendly. Seats seem to have gotten smaller, it felt almost like a domestic flight seat, not as much leg room as I remember. Maybe it was just an older plane

The skycam was the best part of the entertainment interface options, giving you an outside view of the plane at all times from a camera at the top of the plane tail. Watching the plane during its descent and landing was very cool."
Cons: "I’ve flown in tight-spaced economy seats before, but the lack of space to even bend over to reach items on the floor was extreme on this plane and unacceptable for a 15+ hour flight. It truly felt like a straightjacket. Serious acrobatics were required to reach items on the floor. The tray table would also fly down on its own, the lever holding it would slide free while I was sleeping. There was no wifi at all, not even for using the qantas apps. My fiancé flew on Virgin the week before and was able to purchase wifi and stay in touch with me for $19 for the duration of the flight. Even my flight earlier this year with Qantas on the Dreamliner lacked usable wifi, but the experience of the Dreamliner plane itself was wonderful. In addition, the usb ports on the end of the armrests weren’t working. I feel it should be part of the safety briefing to point out where the usable power points are, given how vital charged phones are these days for boarding passes, reaching loved ones and entertainment when the wifi isn’t working. I didn’t realize there was a plug for laptops/ block plugs until I asked about the USB ports not working until the last 2 hours of the flight. The location of that was somewhere few would notice or look if not explicitly told. This will be the last time I ever book with Qantas when an a380 model is involved, unless great overhauls and updates are completed. Economy should not lack basic ergonomic comforts and while I’ve spent years touting my love for Qantas, having had wonderful experiences in the past, this one fell far below what I had come to expect from the Qantas name."
