The agents arrived late, they seemed to be having a good time and didn't feel the need to explain the reason for the delay nor apologize for it. - On my flight to Manila from Los Angeles, I did not check in any luggage. I had a carry-on and a backpack that fit perfectly well into the overhead bins and underneath the front seat. On my flight from Manila to Los Angeles, I was not allowed to take the same set on board because the total weight exceeded 7 kg. This put me in a bind because the heaviest item I had was my small LCD monitor which was in my backpack. I had to put it into the carry-on with wheels which I had to be checked-in. I would have prepared to carry it in my backpack because it is a fragile item. When I was told to sign a document that absolves the carrier of any liability for the checked-in luggage and I refused, the China Airlines Duty Officer in Manila informed me that unless I sign the document, my luggage will not be loaded on the plane. I felt extremely frustrated by the attitude of the Duty Officer who didn't hesitate to threaten me and insisted that the rule was imposed on them by the TSA in the US. Instead of helping me work out a solution to the difficulty I was facing, he simply walked away with a dismissive attitude."

I felt so sorry for others."

Pros: "Despite having a high "Sapphire" status with this One World Partner and being promised "preferente" seats by the airline when I reserved seats months ago, I was unable to view the seats or check in online. Both their App and their online system were down and unavailable. We were never able to view our actual seats online. The "preferred seats" my group on 5 could not have been worse!! We were seated consistently in row 11 or the very last row of the aircraft immediately in front of the lavatory, where the seats do not recline at all and where you hear and smell the bathroom for the entire flight.. There was NO space to breathe in our seats. I have traveled on dozens of airlines and this experience and these seats were the WORST! After this happened once, I specifically asked to insure that it would not happen again and was told that seats on my next flights were good but they were the same horrible seats. Part of our itinerary was on LAN and part was on TAM, who have now combined into 1 airline, but still operate on separate systems. So LAN customer service could not see the seats for TAM flights and vice versa. Their online system reflected a changed time for our return flight from 145pm to 250pm from Rio. We verified it 3 times (even though we could not check in or view our seats because of "technical difficulties" we could see the new departure tie, and the change was confirmed by our Sheraton concierge, but when we arrived to the airport they informed us that we had arrived to late for our 145pm flight! We showed them the app that showed our flight was changed to 250pm and they could not explain the problem. We were delayed 4 hours and arrived too late for dinner in Santiago. The final 4 hour flight at 4am flight from Santiago to Lima was torture. The seat in front was literally 6 inches in front of my face when they reclined and I could not recline. It was absolute TORTURE! Avoid this airline! To add the agony, they have lost my bag and do not know where it is!"

Incompetent, zero clue as to handle a delayed flight forced every passenger to hand over passports into communal plastic bags and took them for 2 hours somewhere in the airport unknown to us. I should never have to give up my passport into plastic bags/strangers EVER. They lost my customs paper, and then proceeded to accuse me of "selling it"--They took it after I passed through customs initially and if they put it back in passport after they threw them all in plastic bags- god knows where it is, or who's hands it was in who may have took it. They would not give us food vouchers, or water. They couldn't figure out how to get buses and hotel rooms for people- basic simple business skills-- add number of passengers going to hotel, calculate number of seats per bus and that will get you the number of buses needed--- they couldn't figure that out. I will call and give more detail, I promise."

Cons: "My experience with flying China Southern for my flights from SFO to BKK and HAN to SFO was the worst that I have ever experienced in my many years traveling for work and leisure. I took this trip with Connor Logan (booked separately) and we both received the same service. To start, when we arrived at SFO we were told our flight was delayed for 7 hours due to mechanical failure and that we would be unable to make our connecting flight in CAN. Even though we had checked the flight status the morning of the flight, there was no information updated. When I spoke to a China Southern employee, she told me that she was informed the Night Before when her boss called her into work because they knew an entire flight would have to be rerouted, yet they did not even warn passengers the morning of the flight. After being changed to a new flight plan, we struggled to get proper help to get our tickets with United and China Eastern because there were some issues with paper tickets that China Southern gave versus the tickets that United accepted. It took 4 hours of confusion in SFO and a stressful quick layover in Shanghai. We did not feel taken care of."

Cons: "Flight got cancelled last minute. Rebook service was horrrible. The supervisor was very emotional and unprofessional. He was screaming on the phone and refuse to listen saying I already told you what happened this is our policy thats it! At the end they finally rebooked the flight, but the layover was close to 10hrs. I later found out they had a 3hr layover. It could of been a lot smoother. I do not recommend this airline."
Pros: "I had just suffered multiple breaks in my arm/shoulder and was returning to the States. I was in considerable pain and flying alone - this was the first flight out I could get. Everyone was AMAZING. From helping to rearrange seats, other passengers, and even upgrade to maximize comfort and minimize more damage to my arm to helping open any food packages so that I could eat with medication and checking in on me frequently, I couldn't have asked for better attention given the situation. I hadn't heard of this airline before but now highly recommend - they were amazing through two flight legs, two different airline crews, and 3 airports. Cannot thank the crew enough for their attention and care during a very difficult time. I am a frequent traveler and this is the best customer experience I've ever had."

Had to speak to a China Eastern representative at the airport who was very unhelpful. After an airport employee (not affiliated with China Eastern) spoke to the China Eastern rep, the rep claimed there was no problem all along. I was in a Changsha, China at the time so few employees spoke English. Luckily my girlfriend sole Chinese otherwise this would’ve been a much worse experience."

It was the most stressful flying experience I have had to date. Ended up running through the airport in Kunming, begging to jump lines in order to make the second flight, and catching the plane 5 minutes before takeoff. Luckily they allowed us to board even though it was so close to time. Very stressful experience."
Pros: "The plane from LAX to Shanghai-Pudong was very nice and modern. It was a Boeing 777-300ER and was pretty comfortable in economy class with individual monitors behind each headrest. The entertainment on board was very good. The food was mediocre at best, but for the price point I have absolutely no regrets. The stewardess that was in our section was very cold but not unfriendly. We had a brief layover in Shanghai before heading to Seoul Incheon. The plane from Shanghai to Seoul was an older Airbus 330. It was pretty outdated and my armrest next to the window seat was actually half missing. Overall though, I was pleasantly surprised that they served a meal on the fight, and the flight attendants on this fight were much more friendlier than the previous international route. One recommendation is that China Eastern not post the production date on their bread rolls. There was a Korean passenger in front of me who thought the bread was expired and it caused a commotion on the plane. I was very impressed by how the attendants handled the situation. They were very friendly and even the head flight attendant came by to apologize although it was not needed."

My husband needed the use of a wheelchair and with the help of the airport staff member we RAN through immigration (flew in from Hong Kong), had to go through security a second time, lost my iPad at security due to our rapid departure. We got to the flight at 12:30 and made it just in time to board. Our luggage could not be transferred in time and arrived the next day. This is just too difficult for people of any age to do...my husband and I are both in our 70s."

Every flight that I took with them (4 total) left late and my luggage did not arrive in LA on my way back to the USA.
