Cons: "Air New Zealand needs to manage double door boarding a little differently - a ticket checker needs to be at the split point - to streams of passengers trying to find their seat in opposite directions just doesn't work."

Cons: "The staff asked for my return ticket to the U.S. I told them I have a round trip ticket from and to Japan. I have to show them my U. S. Navy identification card otherwise Air New Zealand would not have processed my boarding pass ticket. Air New Zealand discriminates."

Pros: "As has been my prior experience with Air New Zealand, I found the trip to be virtually flawless. The boarding process was smooth and efficient, the crew was great and seemed to genuinely enjoy their job, the food was good, and I had lots of choices on the IFE system. For flying cattle class on a 15 hour flight, I arrived reasonably rested and content."
Cons: "My only complaint is that the extra $60 I had to pay in order to get a window seat got me just that. There was no additional room either length- or width-wise and no other advantages other than the window. I would not pay for that "privilege" again and I'm sorry to see that ANZ has stooped to the level of its American counterparts."

So instead of paying the 1 dollar promotional fee advertised online i have to pay 191 dollars at the airport. That is ridiclous."

The staff were excellent, the food was as good as can be (given that it is airline food), the choices for entertainment were great. Lots of overhead storage!"

Cons: "1. The flight from LAX to Goungzhou was 1 hour late. We were all in the plane by 10 PM and the plane was to leave at 10:30 PM. It left 11:30 with all the passengers sitting on the plane for 1 1/2 hours! The delay made the rush to make it to the next flight in Guangzhou was stressful and exhausting. 2. I reserved an aisle seat beforehand because medical issue that require frequent trip to the rest room. The reservation person told me that I would have a window seat on the 2nd floor but no one is seated next to me. That was not the case. There was a person beside me that had to be disturbed frequently for my rest room trips. And this was a 15 hour trip."

I did go out and asked a staff, but she said that you should claim inside near baggage claim. So it means that i could not go inside, so i got out already. - The flight today from Guangzhou to Ha noi was delayed 1.5hours. It was really terrible experience with the airlines. The food was bad."

Pros: "The flight attendents were helpful when a few of us passengers required different seats due to varying circumstances. Even I had changed my seat once because two seats became available next to me and the seat I was in was quite crowded because of a very large passenger next to me. So I switched my seat. Later, the flight attendent asked me to go back to my original seat because they wanted to give those two seats to someone else who was also having an issue. Even though I didn't want to, the flight attendant was very kind and patient and considerate. It ended up being fixed well to the satisfaction of all passengers by a bit more switching around, and all were accomodated."

I was kept at the airport on a layover to another city and they wouldn't let me board because they said my passport number was entered wrong on the reservation. This made no sense as I had gotten off another flight on my way back home. No one at the airport in Shanghai was helpful and it was really frustrating to think that I would be stuck in China. I was finally able to track down a international supervisor who was able to print out my boarding passes and let me board my flight. Unfortunately, another family with small kids were dealing with the same issue as me only their flight was leaving in 30 mins. I hope they were able to make their flight."

Cons: "There was definitely someone(s) smoking on the plane - cigarette smoke would waft through the cabin intermittently. Free wi-fi should be made available. My seat wouldn't stay reclined, so I had to push down on it the whole time. I took a flight from JFK to Taipei with a long layover in Taipei. No significant delays, but the boarding process in both areas was unorganized; everybody just kind of lines up in a large mass. Boarding doesn't actually begin until like 5-10 min before the stated departure time, so actual departure is also pushed back. However, we ended up arriving around the stated time so I guess it doesn't really matter."

Cons: "We were two hours late bc the the crew decided to play musical chairs with the passengers. They seem to give preferential treatment to passengers they sat with, flirted with and laughed; reposting these passengers to first class or business. Meanwhile were extremely rude to foreign passengers and even got hands with some French passengers who could not understand the crew due to a language barrier. Overall flight was okay after we finally took off once the crew was finished with play time with their friends."

Cons: "After I missed my connecting flight because of delays in Bangkok, they wouldn't provide me with any food coupons while I wait 8 hours for my next flight. They offered a meal that they cooked in-house, but the wait to receive one was absurdly long and seemed rather dicey. This was confusing as they had provided me with a food coupon in Bangkok for the initial delay, so their customer service policy is rather confusing and comes down to how they feel in the moment. They really should have been more accommodating."

Really, like 5 checking points between the gate and your seat - quite exhaustive. Crews definitely lack language abilities and clearly follow the Chinese pattern of ignoring non-Chinese - you will never see a smile from a flight attendant, they'll address you as "hello" in any situation and will not communicate to you in English. Rather poor service-wise. Other than that, good flight for the price - just distract from the majority of Chinese clientele behaving loudly and violating your private space deliberately all the time - but it's a Chinese airline, after all. Americans are much louder. Entrainment is mediocre, not much information is offered in broken English at least"

Cons: "Many times in China, planes stop on the tarmac and have passengers get off the plane, board a bus, and enter the airport at a ground level entrance. This flight we were hopeful of actually getting off at a proper gate. We pulled up to a gate, but in true China form, we didn't actually get to enter the airport from the gate. We exited the plane as if we were going to enter the airport from that gate. However, we were guided away from the airport entrance down a set of stairs to board a bus to be transported no more than 200m to a ground level entrance. I wish I was making this stuff up!"

Cons: "We had all our valuables in our carry on luggage. It is the same carry-on we used for our whole trip. When we started to board the plane to Manila, we were told that we had to check in the bag. we explained about our valuables and medication. They would not listen. They insisted. We had to remove everything from the bag and carry the valuables and medications by hand. Boarding personnel were not helpful at all. The worst part is there were many bags the same size or even a little larger that were taken on the plane."

Cons: "First, our flight to Bali was canceled, there was a scam delaying and delaying the flight so that no one was offered vouchers. But the gate told us it was definitely canceled even though it was never officially canceled. We flew to Manila instead. They botched our return ticked accidentally booking us home on a flight 3 days later. We were on hold 45 minutes but no one answered when we tried to call so we had to wait at the airport to talk to someone - of course their convenient hours are 2AM - 10AM. When we finally did get a flight, the food was awful, the "vegetarian option" was inedible. The thimble of wine was mean considering there is no alcohol in flight. The snack was a tiny package containing 8 tasteless peanuts. We were reprimanded for getting more water. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Pros: "Good leg room. Okay meals. The price is good..."
Cons: "Some flights have personal movie screens while other flights have communal screens that just show funny cat videos over and over again, then movie trailers. On the longer flights that really gets old. There was an entire section of the plane where no one bought seats because they were too expensive. After take-off people wanted to move into those seats to sleep but the stewardesses said that we would have to pay 1000 CD for the honor to use those seats...these were the same seats that we were in just a bit more in the front of the plane....people were pissed. These were not 1st class seats.... Uncertain if I would use this airline again...."

Cons: "I asked if I could have a aisle or window seat and was told there was nothing available at the counter, however there were plenty of seats available on the plane."

Cons: "I fly internationally often, and this was my first experienceb with China Eastern Airlines. Unlike other airlines, I was surprised the flight was limited on quantities of red wine, which I admit I have two or three glasses to help me sleep on the flight. This flight I was allowed only one with the first meal service, and was told there was no more available. Otherwise the meals, service and responsiveness by the crew to passenger needs was top rating. Thank you for your services. Keith Schultz"

Cons: "I was refuses boarding with no clear reason. Was told that because flying time will be longer from toronto to shanghai ans we will miss connection. No support privided for booking ibto another partner airline.Was told weather conditions and that advise is to fly after 3 days. No compensation paid for money spent ro and from airport or for additional day stay. Tgey said you take full refund and bool in airline of your choice. Crazy, if i book on the day of flying, it would be super expensive. Then they booked on next day flight and that too confirmed which is contradictory to advisory of 3 days. Rebooked but missed critical things like veg food, wheelchair, aise seat. Rude staff at airport. Refused to give anything in written over email."

Cons: "Delay an hour and couldn't buy sim card at airport because they were closed already. We almost missed the last bus also."

Pros: "The plane from LAX to Shanghai-Pudong was very nice and modern. It was a Boeing 777-300ER and was pretty comfortable in economy class with individual monitors behind each headrest. The entertainment on board was very good. The food was mediocre at best, but for the price point I have absolutely no regrets. The stewardess that was in our section was very cold but not unfriendly. We had a brief layover in Shanghai before heading to Seoul Incheon. The plane from Shanghai to Seoul was an older Airbus 330. It was pretty outdated and my armrest next to the window seat was actually half missing. Overall though, I was pleasantly surprised that they served a meal on the fight, and the flight attendants on this fight were much more friendlier than the previous international route. One recommendation is that China Eastern not post the production date on their bread rolls. There was a Korean passenger in front of me who thought the bread was expired and it caused a commotion on the plane. I was very impressed by how the attendants handled the situation. They were very friendly and even the head flight attendant came by to apologize although it was not needed."
Cons: "Cold flight attendants. The attendants did their jobs, but I felt like they were there to collect their paychecks not to provide world class service or be friendly. (LAX to Shanghai) Very spotty Wi-Fi in Shanghai (not the airlines fault). Food was not memorable. I was missing a large piece of my armrest from Shanghai to Seoul."

Pros: "That I made it home safe."
Cons: "Maintence delay? Maintenance should be taken care of before the plabes are in use. Not while people are waiting to go home or vacation. No time specified for duration of delay. Changed multiple times. Boarded us with no AC, so it was burning hot while waiting to take off. Crew wass unresponsive to questions."

Pros: "Pleasant trip for the most part, friendly crew, easy boarding"
Cons: "Can't use phone, headphones provided don't fit entertainment systems on seat backs, so no way to watch"

Pros: "Nothing was really likeable, just sub par."
Cons: "The flight attendants rolled eyes at us because we needed a pen to fill out the deceleration form. I had dropped mine somewhere under the seat so I figured it was no big deal to borrow a pen. Instead she rolled her eyes at me, threw her hands at us and signed very loudly. It was embarrassing to say the least. If I had known this was going to be a big deal I would of asked passengers if I could borrow their pen. Additionally, we were ignored when they were offering water to passengers. No one made eye contact with us. We felt very discrimated against as we were the only Individuals of inifian decient. Majority of the passengers were Asian, and they weren't treated the way we were. Never again will I take this airline again, or tell me family or friends to. I've never felt so unwelcome. I've taken this airline before to Asia but this will definitely be the last."

Pros: "Vegan meal was surprisingly good. Crew was generally nice."
Cons: "Business class was basically empty but no one got an upgrade. They told us there were no available seats for my husband and I to sit together, so I was alone with a one-year-old on my lap with my husband in a different row. Once we already boarded, we saw that there were a lot of empty seats and we could have taken the car seat on. It was too late for that, but we did manage to talk someone into moving to our (better) seat so that we could be together in a 3-seater as a family."

Pros: "the two things I thought were good was the staff and the entertainment. The staff was nice and attentive. And there was a wide range of entertainment to choose from. They had lots of movies and games you could pick from with a few tv shows."
Cons: "I flew this airline round trip from the US to Thailand, so I was in the air 10+ hours both ways. It was not the most comfortable plane ride I have been in. There is not a lot of room, but they were very well priced tickets so I wasn't expecting a lot either. Also this airline does not let you use your smart phone even when on air plane mode at all during the flight. So if like me you planned on listening to your music and audiobooks you downloaded, specifically for the flight, on your iPhone you are out of luck. Also the food was not great...but it's airplane food so again I was expecting much."

Pros: "Almost all legs of multiple destination flight were on time. Boarding was very organized and quick. Flights were smooth. In flight entertainment was spot on, with personal screens on a every seat. Staff was a mix of super helpful and weirdly abrupt. They ran out of customs forms, wine and beer. Drink selection was very limited: no diet soda, no sparkling water. All beverages served at room temperature. Food was plentiful but only average. For the prices paid, I'd gladly pass up these inconveniences in favor of things like efficiency and ease of travel. Will definitely fly again."

Cons: "I am a very frequent flyer. This is by far THE WORST company with THE WORST customer service. I'll skip the details of the flight itself. We are getting ready to sue this company in the United States for their outrageous behavior on our way back from Phuket. We bought 3 round trip tickets from New York to Phuket and back with an overlay in Shanghai. On our way back, at 2am, when all offices are closed, the China Eastern team refused to put us on our plane. They notified us that our tickets were canceled without a prior warning (no refund, by the way). They couldn't help us by, let's day, selling us the same tickets again, and they did not offer any other accommodations. The manager refused to share his supervisor's information and concealed his identity by turning over his badge. They only told us to call the hotline number on the reservation. The number did not work. As we didn't have anywhere to go at 2 am, we stood by the registration counter and kept asking how the company was going to help us get back home since we paid a lot of money and did not receive any prior notice or at least a refund. The manager called six security guards and ordered them to get us away from the counter. Because of the China Eastern despicable customer service, we ended up overpaying $3600 for 3 people, missing an important business meeting, and losing wages as a result of a missed day of work."

Pros: "Not much."
Cons: "The booking counter in KBV couldn't check me in for my connecting flight in Shanghai. This required me to wait in a number of lines in Shanghai, get a temporary visa, pick up my luggage, check in again and repeat immigration and security-early in the morning with a flight to catch. Also, I tried to speed thing up by attempting to use the Priority check-in, thinking that my hurried situation would be enough to convince the counterperson to help me. NOPE. Even though there was zero line, he refused to help and treated my like a peasant. I've never been treated that way at an airport before. Extremely rude and frustrating for us. Oh, and then on the flight back to Tokyo, there was a fight between two men in the aisle. I'm not kidding. I will never fly this airline again. It was cheap. And I should have known better."

Pros: "The crew seem to be very nice people. There are making the best out of a bad situation."
Cons: "Where to begin? The plane had no modern entertainment systems. There were no televisions for individuals. The group TV played some terrible just for fun TV show. It's a rip off candid camera. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing more discouraging me being given a kiddie cup for your soft drink. No opportunity to ask for a can, they use liter size bottles. The check and the clerk of shirred me that I was receiving an extra long legroom seat. It was not. Only due to the fact the flight was 70% full was I able to move to a exit aisle seat with long legroom. Then I was seated next to a young man who proceeded to belch the whole flight. I guess that's a cultural thing. Just part of the aura of China Eastern."

Pros: "If you can help it, do NOT travel on China Eastern. This is an airline that does NOT care about the passenger and does things the way they are done in communist dictatorships. My flight was from REP to PVG and then to ORD. The first leg (MU514) was delayed by 16 hrs - we were not told straight away about the length of the delay, every 2 hrs they would come up with a take off time and then delay it again. We spent the night at the airport - no food, no hotel. There were measely vouchers for a burger and a drink in the morning. We missed our onward flight and were delayed another 20 hrs in Shanghai. After queueing for hours we were given a hotel. A nightmare."

Pros: "since i was wearing a boot on my foot for a toe injury.i had wheelchair service which was excellent. food was OK the hot rolls were wonderful Was able to get a blocked middle seat which really helped to stretch out my injured toe especially for that long of a flight."
Cons: "the heat on the plane was way to hot from SFO to SHangHI. buT FROM SHANGHI BACK To SFO IT WAS ALOT cooler,"

Cons: "1. The flight delay. 2. Horrible food. 3. In-flight entertainment set wasn't working. When we told the stewardess about it, it wasn't addressed till the flight was about to land. Which was by then, rather useless. They gave a a complimentary bottle of wine though."

Pros: "The chair was comfortable and I had plenty of leg room. It was far nicer than some flights I've had in the past."
Cons: "The food was pretty bad. There could have been a bigger selection of entertainment but it easy too limited."

Pros: "They didn't lose my luggage."
Cons: "I booked a trip for me and my wife to Japan, and a few weeks before we were supposed to leave, China Eastern cancelled the flights we were scheduled to take. I had to call customer service to get us reassigned to new flights. This changed the dates of our trip, which messed up my time off from work, and I had to request more time off. We had 2 flights each way, and at least half of them were delayed. Check-in at the airport was unreasonably slow. Despite that the flights were non-smoking, there were people smoking. I know that coach seats are usually crammed, but these were more crammed than other flights I've been on."

Cons: "The airline misplaced my luggage going to my destination and returning back to my home. They refused to deliver it to me when they found it and said I had to pay if I want it delivered. The flights always arrived late. The service on board was poor. They refused to fill your glass to the top to save on produce. You couldn't you cell phones even in flight mode. Poor overheard entertainment. Mostly just advertisements. No napkins given with "meal". Meal consisted of bread with inknow meat inside and the dries piece of cake ever. Sadly china eastern knows you no choice when you need to go to smaller cities in China so they know they don't need to provide good customer service."

Pros: "Outside of making it safely to Singapore, there was nothing good about the experience."
Cons: "Its just abundantly clear they don't care about their customers at all. The crew is rude and officious and blatantly would just ignore customers trying to get their help, they will force you to keep all electronics to be off for 30 minutes after takeoff and before landing (literally taking them out of your hands) regardless of if they are in airplane mode or even have a wifi signal or are just a kindle, they will not permit the use of mobile phones at any point in the flight and again will take them out of your hand even in airplane mode to listen to music or type notes etc., the food is terrible, they came through once with drinks on a 6 hour flight (thank god I bought some water in the airport beforehand), the plane was noticeably decades old with chairs and table trays falling apart, entertainment did not exist which was made all the more noticeable because your electronics were taken away. My bag was broken and an entire shell for it was missing by the time it got to Singapore. And Shanghai is the worst airport for a layover I've ever been in -- it's a dump of an airport, has very few food options, terrible wifi, you are blocked from accessing basic websites like Google and Facebook, and you have to go through an entirely new security and checkin procedure, which is onerous, even though you did one in Japan. The boarding is slow and terrible, and the flight was delayed sitting on the tarmac for 40 minutes without even an attempt to apologize or explain for the delay. And it seems this behavior and approach is just normal based on other people I've talked to. It's. it hard to make flying a little more pleasant with basic courtesies but China Eastern seems to find a way to take every one of those opportunities to male your experience worse."

Pros: "Attentive stagf, but less attentive than previous flight."
Cons: "1. Couldnt use mobile phone for reading only (mobile phones had to be completely switched off). I wont be flying China Eastern because of this rule. 2. Business class seats where not good (poor adjustment, too far from TV, no window accesible without getting out of seat) 3. Boarding and unboarding on tarmac was inconvenient. 4. Movie selection not up to date"

Pros: "Aside from the flight crew and they people I met on the flight, there was almost nothing redeeming about this flight,"
Cons: "Flight was scheduled to depart at 4:20pm. After multiple gate changes with very poor customer service/communication from the airport staff, the flight didn't actually depart until 6:30pm. I understand delays are a natural part of the travel industry, however a simple explanation or reassurance regarding the details of the delay are greatly appreciated but were lost on the East Chinese crew. Food was terrible. Seat was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever been on. Absolutely no in flight entertainment on a 10 hour flight. Awful experience and I'm glad it's over."

Cons: "The customer service relations at the front desk to check in word is awful and unfriendly the flight was uncomfortable the entertainment controller does not work 90% of the time it was just a bad experience flying with you in general"

Cons: "While the service was subpar, the food was bad, we were late to depart and the weather caused us to land unexpectedly. When we arrived 3.5 late, after trains had stopped running, there was no compensation or information at all. Meanwhile the two other flight carriers that were also delayed due to weather had tables set up upon arrival for their passengers to receive help immediately. This was completely unprofessional and unhelpful. Although our flight was relatively inexpensive, I will not choose this carrier ever again."

Pros: "On board was peaceful and uncrowded. Actually provided dinner!"
Cons: "Original flight was cancelled. Stood in a long line to re-book. Person said she put me on another flight and told me to go check in and check my bags. Person at check-in refused to do it until I go back to the first person and get my Ticket Number. Went back to stand in the long line again, she gave me the ticket number this time. It should be noted that the confirmation email did NOT provide the ticket number -- a big omission. After much unnecessary delay, entered crowded waiting area for many delayed flights. A cattle pen. An unusual plus -- they provided a take-out meal for those waiting through dinnertime. Flight was finally announced some 7 hours later. Crowded bus ride to the airplane. Not even third-rate service, very poor. No use of boarding ramp. I hope it is the last time I fly on China Eastern."

Pros: "The flight attendant was kind and got me a blanket and was kind during the food service"
Cons: "It was 3 hours late without a reason why. The flight had a rough take off and landing. I don't think I'd ever take the airline again"

Cons: "I traveled with my two kids and wife. My daughter is 2 yrs old and my son is 3 yrs old. For some reason, despite me paying for a guaranteed seat the person in the check in counter gave us 4 seats in different locations. How can you expect a two and a three year old to seat alone beside a stranger in the plane?!? I was forced to ask for some passengers to swap seat with us so I can have my kids seat beside my wife. Even the flight attendant was not able to help us because they do not know how to speak English! Terrible!!!!"
