Staying in Edinburgh means finding a great hotel, one of which is the Balmoral Hotel. The Balmoral Hotel is all about providing travelers with some impressively luxurious accommodations. The best part about the hotel is the location. There are so many places to see in Edinburgh and the hotel is right in the middle of all of them. With rooms that are luxuriously appointed and a staff that is dedicated to service, you’ll feel as if you’re the only guest in the hotel. With a pool and spa on the premises, it is extremely easy to relax. Scottish cuisine is one of the great understated pleasures of any trip. In Edinburgh, it is done right. There are plenty of great places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. However, the Balmoral does offer some in-house dining that will make you think twice about heading out to eat. Number One and Brasserie Prince by Alain Roux are two excellent restaurants to go along with the bars and lounges in the hotel. Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Cons: Felt sorry for reception, really tight and congested with piles of baggage to take care of in view behind the front desk (damaging interior design and walls). Appreciate it's an historic building but steps leading up to elevator foyer really not helpful. Cons: This hotel has crammed as many tiny rooms as possible in. Because of this, you hear hallway noise in the morning, slamming doors and conversations. Because it is so crammed, your television has a low volume limit, the breakfast room is a crush of people, the desk has the TV right on it (the chair wont pull out without hitting the bed) and to even get an iron you have to go to a special ironing room as there is nowhere to set up an ironing board. Stay here if you don’t mind feeling constantly squeezed.

Cons: There was no Wi-fi throughout our stay and we had no way of accessing our room. The problem with the Wi-fi meant that room keys could not be issued and we had to wait until a member of staff was available to take us to our room every time we returned to the hotel. The internal phones were not working so we had to go down to reception with any requests.

Cons: This hotel was highly disappointed. I came there for a business trip and did not have any wifi for more than 2 days out of 4 days. Only explanation given was that it was a "free wifi" hence not included in the price so they could not compensate me for anything which is a joke considering the hotel price. Pros: It's everything you expect from a Hilton. Starting at the beginning, you can't ask for a better location if you're in Edinburgh. The Waverley station, the royal mile and all major attractions are a stone's throw away. The hotel itself is good. Lovely interiors and decor, the room was very comfortable, and had all amenities you would want. I stayed with my family and had 2 double beds which suited very well. The staff was courteous too. There was a little delay of about 30 mins in getting our room ready for checkin owing to the rush of tourists, but they gave us vouchers for drinks to use at the bar as we waited. The breakfast was suitably sufficient too. Overall a great stay and would sure like to stay here when I'm back in Edinburgh

Cons: I am shocked that no one else has mentioned that there is an extremely loud night club in the building. The techno music started at 11pm. It took us a bit to figure out what to do - there are no phones to the front desk, you are supposed to text but I got no answer, when I went down to the lobby the only staff apologized but said there were no other rooms he could move us to, and that the music would turn off at 3am. 3AM. We had a flight at 10am. We made some calls and found a place 4 blocks away, which we walked to in the rain, in our pajamas. I went back the next morning and they refunded me the night at Ibis, but I would never stay or recommend anyone staying there again.

Situated in the historic Old Town of Edinburgh, this is the best place to stay in the city. The Old Town is a World Heritage site. Cons: The sheets were old and of very low quality. We found hairs under the sheet. The sleeper sofa, is hard and very uncomfortable, no way 2 people can sleep on that thing. The kitchenette has a wine cooler as a fridge, meaning the temp goes not lower than 12 degrees. They sell the "suite" (hahaha) as a place for 4, however you get 2 cups and 2 glasses. One need to take turns when drinking coffee. Lots of dishwashing soap, most probably left by prior guests, but only 1 little bath and shower gel sachet per person.

Half finished towel rail, no regulater on the shower, loose toilet seat, pop up waste had worn thread which you could not use,no small bar fridge for milk, although a kettle was provided the ilk had to be sourced everyday as it was going g off in the heat, electrical wires hanging down from tv. A mouse was spotted the night of our arrival and we set traps. Fortunately it wasn’t seen again but it made for an uncomfortable stay. This was reported to the owners and they got back to say they had baited somewhere but they didn’t say where. Emailed with the other concerns and didn’t get a reply. We are good customers with booking.com and have stayed in many of your places, you should know by our previous reviews that we are not serial complainers. We should have received an apology and/or compensation but everyone prefers to hide behind faceless email addresses and no responsibility is taken by anyone, very disappointed. The reason why this property is popular is because of its location. The standards were awful and someone should be made accountable. You calculate a score of 4.2 I’d say a score of 1 would be more appropriate

Cons: They are not up front about several things. First there is no one at the place to handle problems. No desk, no phone number. Just email. Second, the only way to get in is by a terrible spiral stone staircase, so it is very hard to get large suitcases up. Third, when I made the reservation they immediately charged me and sent an email that I would be on the fourth floor. I made the reservation months in advance and I asked them to move me to a lower floor. They said they couldn't, but if they could it would cost 10 euros. Very hard to deal with. They also do not provide maid service unless you pay another 17 euros per day! Also no place to leave your luggage because its not a hotel. Finally, I have some serious concerns about the integrity of the apartments. The floors slope and there is serious signs of cracking and sag. At these prices, you are far better booking elsewhere!

Despite following instructions there was an issue in trying to access the room and to be given an automated service with 6 options, all of which lead back to sending an email even in an urgent scenario is not a good service. The lack of response to texts was a similar frustration. Only a little things but the towels could be of much better quality.

Cons: No air con or fan. Room 418 had one small small window backing onto a small alley with an open plan office as the view. These offices were open at all hours and subsequently the lights were mostly on. We therefore had to keep the drapes closed which worsened the stuffiness and heat in the room. if you leave the small window open then the noise will keep you awake most of the night but the highlight is the glass collection between 5 and 6am. We left with a couple who had actually purchased a fan and an ext lead to try to cool their room down. I appreciate summer can be a difficult time but this room was poor and we got next to no sleep. Other rooms may be better. Pointed out these issues to reception and got a shrug. For the money we paid it really wasn’t good enough I’m afraid. Won’t be going back.

Cons: Shower head which cannot be adjusted are best suited to someone over the height of 6 feet or 2 metres. If below this height, it can be impossible to have a shower without getting your hair wet. Hostel is located within staggering distance from the pubs and clubs, so at night it can be noisy, this was not a problem for me. KA has more than one property, and apparently because the other property's kitchen is not as good as this hostel's kitchen, the kitchen can on some occasions be very overcrowded with guests from the other property. As a consequence there can be no space in the fridges/freezer and all the cookers occupied. The main culprits were the long term Spanish guests from the other property. Even though they did not have key cards to the Hostel and kitchen, their compadres at reception would buzz them through. The fire escape door to Candlemaker Rd. states that the door is alarmed. This is not the case. On a Thursday night at 02:00 a concerned female guest had to bring to the attention of reception that the fire escape door was open, Would I stay there again? Yes!

Cons: VERY NOISY! All the noises from the outside bar and hallway come to the room all night long until the wee hours (and not only weekends). Only ventilation was from a small window, which had to be closed for the night due to the noise. The first elevator was broken the whole stay. Also the bathroom light was probably broken as it was on all the time (no switch). Breakfast was not worth £5.50, incl. cereal, toast, unregocnizable "juice", fruit, coffee/tea. The bar serves food, nachos are good, others mediocre. Linen looked clean but pillow a dirty hair smell.

The shower had no curtain so the whole of the floor was wet with a pool of water which didn’t dry. The bathroom floor dirty in the corners. 6. Three tiered bunk bed may present access difficulties to some guests although again I have to say that the bed was mega comfortable and spotlessly clean. Limited kitchen and chill out area, limited access in kitchen area to drinking water. Fee for storing luggage after check I for a few hours.

Cons: Pack ear plugs with you... I could hear everything from the room next room. I had a early start in the morning because of rertun flight and breakfast was starting only at 7am on weekday. This is too late start because there are many excursions available in Edinburg with early start. And in general it's also a too late start if you're travelling on business.

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.

The cost of parking in th recommended carpark is halved for hotel guests. This gives a huge saving on the £22 per day charge.
Cons: The bedroom looked out onto large, grim air con units and metal fire escapes. It wasn't pleasant. There was a constant droning noise from the units all through the day and night. There is a need for an update to the room and bathroom. Both were tired but clean. The nearest car park is a good ten minute walk away and there is nowhere to drop off luggage. This could prove difficult if you have heavy luggage or multiple suitcases.

Pros: The location of the hotel was excellent. The breakfast was enjoyable.
Cons: We stayed in room 577. The room was comfortable but there was noise from the property next door. It sounded like a cooling system. We are heavy sleepers so this didn't pose too much of a problem. Not ideal for others.

Pros: The location was great. The staff friendly and very helpful. The beds were okay. A little on the hard side. For some reason our room was very warm. No explanation for that. Glad there was a fan to use.

Pros: Bed was really comfortable location fantastic staff always pleasant. such a pity it is let down by the kitchen and dining room.
Cons: Breakfast was the only thing that was abysmal. First eggs ran out and took ages to be replaced and then bacon ran out so before you got a full breakfast the first elements were cold. To order eggs from the menu was at least a 20 minute wait. Fresh bread wasn't replaced. Just not acceptable and nobody seemed to be in charge or care. Food in the evening was also overpriced and mediocre.

Pros: The location is really great, and the staff they were very kind, also you can have a great view of the Castle from the hotel restaurant.
Cons: the main issue with the room was the noise coming from the outside, there is no Air Conditioner, the toilet was not working properly, it was no extraction in the bathroom and the mattresses were quite a bit uncomfortable.
