Our small car was really helpful. I can't imagine driving anything bigger, especially on the narrow roads in the highlands of Scotland. The parking garages around town are really nice and we utilized those when we could to avoid street parking. Traffic circles we're definitely interesting to get used to, so be prepared for a lot of them, and the fact that they are not all the same. Eg. Some with one lane, some with more than three, some with traffic light control, some that don't even appear to be a circle at all. It can be confusing if you aren't used to it.

Probably the most irritating feature of the car, being pretty new, are the safety sensors. Drivers can become slaves to warning lights and alarms. But that is not the fault of the rental company.

I didn’t drive in Edinburgh. I used it to drive around the islands and highlands. For Americans, it should be known the roads are much more narrow than the US, and the speed limit is higher considering how narrow they are. Drive where you feel comfortable, but have the courtesy to let others pass you at the designated “passing zones.” Also, in a lot of areas there is no shoulder, and it’s easy to fall into pot holes or clip debris on the side that can cause a blowout . Lastly, be very careful of the unpredictable sheep situation, especially if there are a lot of lambs around. The babies sort of prance around without a car in the world.

Overall, I had a really good experience with Enterprise. The team was super helpful and professional. I had booked an SUV, but since the previous customer returned it late, I was given a citadine instead. It wasn’t ideal for long drives or hiking, but the staff were very friendly and did their best to help—even if the delay pushed my plans a bit. The car was in good condition, and since I had full insurance and the fuel tank option, I returned the vehicle without any problems. The whole return process was quick and easy. Despite the small hiccup, the service was great, prices were competitive, and the staff made it a positive experience. I’d definitely rent with them again! But they are following policy, so as long as the car is returned in good condition, they won’t try to scam you.

When we arrived, the company informed us that our car had been rented to someone else since we got there with more than 2 hours of delay and they could not provide another car before three days, which seriously impacted our vacation as we had a tour planned with reservations for every night. Nobody ever informed us of this policy, particularly in the confirmation emails that we had. No compensation was provided, although we had to rent another car last minute and expended much more money. An absolute shame.

Total lack of transparency regarding the daily price. We prebooked/prepaid a class and the end charge was double what we expected. No mention at the counter. You don’t get a copy of the invoice at drop off - you get it days later and then they make it difficult to see the charges/details. Unacceptable customer experience with Sixt.

Never got the car, Kayaks terms and conditions stated I’d be charged extra if under the age of 25, Europcar policy is you are charged extra if under the age of 26. I ended up cancelling the rental order as Europcar were wanting to charge me double what I was quoted on kayak. Both should do a better job at ensuring their policies are aligned.

A car was available for me to drive. That was good. The bad: 1) Original quote was for £ 275 - the local Hertz desk charged me £ 691 and tried to charge me over £ 800!! 2) I requested an automatic transmission and got a stick 3) there was a huge scratch in the rear passenger door 4) There was no return sign at the Inverness airport for Hertz, all the other rental car agencies were represented but not Hertz. We had to drive around for 10 min trying to find it, and luckily saw the tiny Hertz sign upon leaving the airport. Kind of a disaster regarding the drop off.

Finding the Green Motion at Waverley Station was very challenging. It was located in a parking garage with no clear markers or signs. We had to ask for help from multiple people to find the office. Once we arrived, the extra fees for insurance were extremely expensive. The hidden fees after they lure you in feel very scam like. The car itself was comfortable and clean. No complaints there, but when we went to drop off the vehicle, they wanted to charge us upwards of 400 pounds for a dent that already existed when we got the car. The staff were extremely rude and condescending about it, and made no offer for us to speak with upper management. They proceeded to tell us we were liable for costs even though when we picked up the car they said it had the dent. Everything about this agency felt underhanded and deceiving, like their ultimate goal is to get as much money from you as possible, but lure you in initially with the best price. I would NOT recommend Green Motion to anyone traveling and in search of a rental vehicle.

The harassment you receive on check in is exhausting. They don't accept the additional insurance you buy online, they charge you £1500 as a hold, and then threaten that you'll be liable for all £40,000 that the car is valued for if you don't show a million dollar insurance through your credit card or take on another £200+ in fees. Very shady business indeed.

Had a great overall experience with Arnold Clark except for the pickup. Pickup location at airport is terrible and confusing. Really great experience! Didn’t know if this was a really secure place when I first booked. Upon arrival into the parking lot it was clear to me that I made the right choice! We were greeted with an upgrade to a brand new vehicle to take into the Scottish highlands! The car was very clean and the staff even offered to drive us to the train station to catch our train into England when we were done with our rental. McNicolls was above and beyond what I thought it would be. Staff was super friendly too!

Kiosk style mobile pickup in an underground garage where there is no phone reception. The credit card reader wasn’t working and they wanted to drive me to another location to pay. It took 40 minutes, even though I was the only customer and they decided at the end to use their own network to call in my payments and details to the other station. On return at 515 pm there was no one there and no sign of any kind, such as explaining where the key drop was. The Budget phone lines close at 4pm (one) and 5 pm (the other). Very annoying.

We were very pleased with the upgraded vehicle we rented, however the pick up was absolutely ridiculous. We arrived 15 minutes ahead of pur reservation time yet were placed 18th in the "queue". We were forced to wait nearly 2 hours to get our car despite having already booked in advance online. This was the low point of our trip. It cost us valuable time ahead of a long day of driving. Very, very bad service by the Hertz affiliates in Edinburgh. To be fair, the Hertz staff were friendly and doing their best, but there just were not enough staff members available to keep up with the volume of customers.

Did not honor the voucher from Kayak/VIPCars, wanted to charge an extra $40 for mileage, and then said I was late so would be an additional $95 to “upgrade”, even though I said I would take a smaller car. This for a 3-day rental, so more than doubling the cost. I went back to the airport and rented direct from Enterprise. Beware using small companies and third party agencies to rent cars!

The car provided was fine. The shuttle is a relatively long drive to their off-sight location, then a 45 minute wait until we were in the car, then a low-fuel light came on within a couple of miles of the pickup spot (the agent told me it had around 1/4 tank left). It wasn't easy to find a fuel station in a foreign location during a rain storm! The waiting room at the off-site location was crowded with clients renting and returning cars so that several people had to stand for long times. I would never again rent from this company, nor use Kayak if that is their best offering.

It was booked without the insurance that I required to drive away. I consequently had to pay an additional £85 on pickup in order to get the car. Thereby invalidating the claimed price. Since kayak, booked through Expedia, which booked through routes, which actually just booked through europcar, no one there had any idea why they let the booking happen at all. Surely this is a problem. Can I have my money back for false advertising? Cheers
