Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Pros: Great location. Nice lobby. Clean. Price not bad comparatively.
Cons: Spartan rooms that could easily be improved upon, ie. luggage racks, any decoration, lighting inside room entrance, TV system that works. One desk person (seemed like manager) said we had good view room - view was of us for double buses parked in front.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: I thought it was a lovely budget hotel and the location to all the attractions was perfect. I would recommend this hotel to travellers.
Cons: I didn't like that I had to pay inflated prices because the festival was on. Also I took I'll with a bug so didn't have as good as stay as planned. Nothing to do with the hotel I might add.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was situated in a perfect place, a stones throw from the bus stop for the airport shuttle & from princes street. The room was stylish and could only have been made better by placing plugs in better location. .
Cons: Overall 9/10, only slight issue was plug situation and breakfast was expensive
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, price and affordability, cool design, friendly staff, open lounge/bar/restaurant with good hours. Quiet rooms!
Cons: AWFUL WiFi- we resorted to paying roaming charges on our mobile phone b/c we needed to get online. No phone in room to call to lobby? Very little lounging furniture-even an extra armchair or loveseat would be nice. Name 'Motel One' cud be better:)
6.3 Good
Pros: It was central
Cons: I didn’t like the fact that people in corridor or other rooms(if curtains were open ) could see in your room. Also far to hot.

More over I had a gloomy room at first and asked for another one and had a fantastic room instead : so my stay was wonderful !!
Cons: I would say that the furniture is a bit IKEA but it wasn’t bad and I felt very comfortable it’s just that it’s a bit common. But for the price I’m very happy

Pros: I liked the room we got (was an upgrade after I queried the room) I liked how central the hotel was to the city centre. I liked how easy the hotel was to find.
Cons: We didn't have a great view from the 2nd floor but I guess not every room can have a great view. Also there are 180ish photos on the booking.com website and obviously the cheaper rooms are at the bottom so it's quite deceiving when you think you are booking a certain looking room and that's not what you get once you have booked
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had such a good time at the Scotsman
Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It offers the best view in city center, and it is very convenient
Cons: Parking is not easy, it takes roughly 10 min to walk to the nearest parking lot
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Excellent location, helpful staff, attractive room, comfortable bed
Cons: No residents lounge in the hotel,so you have to stay in the room or use the restaurant to sit in. Housekeeping not done until mid-afternoon, inadequate hanging space in wardrobe and bathroom. We stayed for 4 nights for various events, and found it impossible to hang up our clothing in the tiny space of the wardrobe, can’t imagine how guests staying for longer manage, presumably they have to live out of their suitcases. There is no storage space or hanging facilities in the bathroom, not even hooks on the back of the door. So you have a shower, use one of the bathrobes, but when it’s damp you have nowhere to put it afterwards. We won’t be back.

Pros: The location, the standard of cleanliness and the little touches like ghd straighteners in the room and a newspaper to your door.
Cons: There is an online system to manage your bookings but some of the offers we selected were not automatically fulfilled and we had to request them again.

Pros: Great location, superb interior design of the room. Very modern style

Pros: Location was perfect. The room had plenty of space and the bed was very comfy! Lots of choice for breakfast. The sausages and scrambled egg and juices were lovely. Friendly staff who were especially friendly to my baby at breakfast time. Lovely relaxing pool and sauna. The lounge area was beautiful.
Cons: I paid extra for a premium room with a city view. There was just a small view of a street near by and there was no sofa area as advertised when I booked it. They had forgotten to put a cot in the room which they confirmed they would do when booking, so we rang for one which was brought to us but this was a broken one so we had to ring to get another one which got sorted. On check in we were not told about any facilities at the hotel we could use or where breakfast would be served and times for this. We were told to come back at 12.30/1pm to check in and when we arrived back to check in at 2.15pm we were told the room still was not ready for another 20 minutes which was unfortunate as our baby needed to settle with warm milk and a nap.
6.5 Good
Pros: Spacious suite living room, separate half guest bath, Decent breakfast with separate order menu, gym had free weights to 30kg, location is on royal mile down road from castle (but for Christmas markets and shopping, a princess street hotel would been better), overall friendly staff.
Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view of Arthur’s Sear (but had to pay extra for it). Very comfortable room and great location on the Royal Mile.
Cons: Only niggle is that there were no complimentary biscuits - we had a long train journey up and were starving. Surely a hotel of this calibre could run to a packet of Scottish shortbread - instead of a nail file and cotton buds.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing! Staff were very helpful and hospitality was good
Cons: The fridges were dirty and the carpets could do with new ones
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff excellent
Cons: Shower in bath
5.1 Okay
Pros: The room
Cons: There was a refurb going on so had to put up with constant drilling was not relaxing

Pros: Old world charm meets modern amenities- you can't go wrong with this hotel right on the royal mike in Edinburgh. Excellent staff, well maintained rooms, and full service. Health club has good assortment of machines and free weights.
Cons: It's bloody cloudy in Scotland- spent an entire week and didn't see the sun once.

The Grassmarket is the hub of Edinburgh’s Old Town and that’s where you’ll find the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel, looking up to Castle Rock and Edinburgh Castle, the backdrop of the Military Tattoo. You can walk anywhere in the city centre from here and it’s exceptionally convenient for the transport links at Waverley Train Station, buses around the city and Old Town attractions. The high street shops of Princes Street and George Street are just a short walk away and you’ll be just a 10 minute walk from The King’s Theatre or The Festival Theatre.
The friendly smile that welcomes you at check-in will become a regular feature during your stay. There’s always someone on hand to help make your stay unique and memorable. From the local advice that’ll help you plan your day to a relaxing dinner or drinks served in Agua Restaurant & Bar, you’ll be well looked after from start to finish.

Pros: Very clean, modern and great location with plenty going on around the hotel.
Cons: Our room was next door to a staff room which meant the door being open and close loudly very early both mornings and loud voices which meant no lie in as hoped! Also we were advised check out was 11am however 10.30 the cleaner let herself in the room and advised she needed in to clean so we had to leave.

Pros: Very nice staff, but I really loved the elevator and fan in the room...the little things.
Cons: Not the hotel's fault, it's at every UK hotel I've been to, but a regular electrical outlet in the bathroom would be nice.

Apex Grassmarket is located in the heart of Old Town Edinburgh with large en suite bedrooms with complimentary Wi-Fi, 42" LCD TV's and Elemis toiletries. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and Technogym, a car park and a glass-fronted restaurant with stunning Edinburgh Castle views. There are seven meeting and event spaces that will suit more formal business needs or weddings and larger events in the Heights space on the fifth floor with unforgettable views of Edinburgh.
You'll love the castle views from the hotel and the fact that within a few minutes you can be on the Royal Mile, or exploring the National Museum of Scotland or even sipping a coffee at The Elephant House - the café where J K Rowling began writing some of her early Harry Potter work.

Pros: Great location, many pubs right across the street (but not noisy). About a 5 min walk to the Royal Mile, Elephant Cafe, or many other major sites. Also, the indoor pool was very nice; even had paddle boards for the kids to play with. Highly recommend the breakfast also, it was delicious.

Pros: Very good eggs royale at breakfast! with good, generous selection of foods for a yummy continental breakfast and nice surroundings for eating, with great view across the grassmarket to the castle. Very comfortable rooms (apart from our particular lack of ventilation, only due to position of room -doubt many have this problem). Excellent hotel position, with parking available at the back. We could nip in&out and visit some of the lovely pubs & cafes etc (including the castle itself!) that are literally just over the road. We had a really nice chill in the bar at the hotel during our stay, finding it very relaxing, whilst quietly convivial. We also called room service and had some delicious food sent up. We were very well looked-after.

Pros: The Hotel is located in a great spot! Close to restaurants and lots of main attractions, hop on hop off bus stop right in front of hotel. The staff was very pleasant and customer service was good.
Cons: It is a little outdated, they are in the works of renovation. clean bed, shower and bathrooms need a deep thorough cleaning not just wiping down BUT scrubbing with disinfectants.
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff were lovely.
Cons: Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.

Cons: Shame our room had no opening windows in it; we had to have the noisy air-conditioning unit on the whole time at the lowest temperature just to stop it from being overbearingly hot and stuffy. didn't sleep so well with it on, had to turn it down in the night. Not great for STAFF or guests to have to deal with people literally shooting up drugs (does one assume heroine?) on the back steps at rear of hotel -I would not go out that way for fear of a sharps injury and instead was trundling around the front of the hotel with all our luggage. It is no doubt an absolute boon that you have parking, but for the sake of your STAFF (& guests!) this should be improved somehow -it would appear that one of the 'standard' members of staff at the desk had to go and 'deal with' the situation -that should not be expected of your staff -they obviously have to deal with this on a regular basis from the reaction at the front desk -they are at risk of sharps injuries -either from being attacked by the addicts they are trying to clear away, or whilst trying to clear up the area after they have gone and likely left used syringes lying around...

7.0 Good
Pros: Great location. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice snack and sandwich stand in lobby.

Pros: Central location, friendly concierge team. Good breakfast.
Cons: Noisy room - next to service lift being worked on for two days. Lots of rooms here back onto access street for services including bins. You don’t need a wake up call as bottle bin is emptied at 6.30 am. Reception staff that didn’t want to hear, let alone respond to, feedback. Almost argumentative as if they often are on the defensive. Small room and bathroom described as ‘Superior King’’. Housekeeping staff entering room without knocking.

Pros: Staff in general were very friendly and helpful. Christmas decorations were brilliant. reception were very helpful
Cons: Bar staff and service was terrible, no food served in bar. Breakfast buffet was great but ordered food was terrible slow over 20 min for a bowl of porridge.seemed to be a lot of additional functions which meant the guests were pushed aside for. should not 5 staff if can not cope with both. very loud music from a fuction on the last night.

Blending perfectly into the historic surroundings of the Royal Mile, Hilton Edinburgh Carlton is an iconic element of the city. Pros: Hilton are our Hotel Group of choice. I just thought this one to be overly expensive probably only justifying itself because of its proximity to the Old Town and the Royal Mile. The bedroom and bathroom were small and the rest of the hotel just felt like an apartment building. There was no real old-world warmth.
As you would expect the staff were very friendly and helpful. My final gripe was that the parking was public and some distance away down a hill and some very steep steps. This,I concede however,is probably the case with most Edinburgh hotels.

Pros: The location is great for access to the Royal mile and you can get anywhere by walking or train quickly. It is also close to some great pubs and restaurants. The hotel is updated and the rooms are nice. There are no real views but you are downtown.
Cons: I think for international guests who fly in overnight an option for early checkin would be great even if it cost additional. We wanted to freshen up and had to use a restroom in the restaurant in the hotel which was not a great option.

Pros: Staff were lovely location great, no car park but you can park in train station car park with 20% off bit of a walk though. Close to royal mile and amenities

Pros: Room and location excellent
Cons: The hotel is a building site. The description says there is scaffolding outside but that's an understatement... There is building work, wires hanging precariously, areas in complete darkness and emergency exits blocked off.

Cons: Bar prices changed depending on staff. Confusion at reception. Poor organisation regarding food, chief not supported by management

Pros: Absolutely nothing. I was disgusted with Hilton Edinburgh Carlton staff attitude and overall cleanliness.
Cons: Being sent to another cheap hotel - The Leonardo Boutique hotel on the first day upon arrival citing system glitch. I had requested late check in which was accepted & confirmed in return by Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. But was still denied a room eventhough full payment had been deducted from my credit card a week before arrival. Actual reason was because Hilton had double booked due to Christmas market right around the corner. Found out this from the other hotel & the taxi driver whom sent us there. This it seems was quite a common incident with Hilton Edinburgh Carlton that they have a special account with other hotel owner just for this purpose. Plus the overall attitude of staff who don't seem to be bothered that they had made a mistake. Appalling for Hilton hotel legacy. Expecting guest who had come to Edinburgh to waste valuable time swapping hotels. 2nd day spent at Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. Checked in and found a dirty room & bathroom more fitting with a 2 star rating. Dust everywhere. On aircond vents, table, sofa and even the bed. Milk stain on coffee making table which had not been wiped clean. Coffee mugs and spoons had stains on them. Same issue with bathroom. Toilet seats had stain on them. Had to use tissue to cover before you use toilet. Water from shower runs down on to floor. Also disappointed due to there were no bath tub. In booking.com it was shown with shower and bath. False advertising. Breakfast was another issue. Stale sausage, haggis, and black pudding which had been re- fried many times. Leftovers from the day before. Fruits are not fresh. Pastry as hard as rock. If you don't believe me try the waffles or scones. I've had better scones from Tesco. First time hotel break fast gave me stomach problems. Coffee was watered down. Simply don't understand why a chef like Marco Pierre White would lend his name to this hotel restaurant. Hopeless. Marco Pierre White you should be angry (fuming mad) at this place....
4.0 Okay
Pros: The refurbished room on the 4th floor was spacious, clean and nicely appointed - aiming for a modern twist on the 1920s and must be said succeeding
Cons: It is an expensive to stay in building site. Most annoyingly was checking in at 3.40 and being sent to a room that was still being cleaned. Front desk should have foresight to deal with this in way befitting a 4* hotel. I almost felt I was in the wrong.

Pros: Location was Great, room was tidy and clean.
Cons: We were not told the room key was required to access the floor levels in the elevator. No information on what time breakfast was served or where until asked. Room had one to many mirrors.

Pros: Rooms were lovely and beds very comfy. Bathroom very modern and shower was amazing.
Cons: Requested an iron in the room prior to arrival but it wasn't there.
The heating came on at 6am and was very noisy. This woke my partner and I up and we couldn't get back to sleep with the noise.
The tea/coffee machine in the room did not work.
Left my straighteners behind in the room but when I contacted the hotel to enquire about this they said they checked and they were not there. That is a mystery to me.

5.7 Okay
Pros:
Cons: The reception staff was awesome. The bathroom in the room however is where I had an issue. I didn’t notice until I took a shower that night but there was mold ALL OVER the ceiling and in the corners of the bathroom. I brought it up to the staff in the morning and they said that they would get it cleaned off. I came back to the room that evening and there was still mold on the ceiling. I looked like they tried to get off some of the bigger spots and then just gave up half way through. It was brought up to them again and I got the same BS answer/result. Luckily we were checking out the next morning. I definitely won’t be staying here again. The staff can’t even take mold issues that can affect someone health seriously.

Pros: The location was very good. The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was very good and the staff were very attentive.
Cons: Difficult to find in the dark - found it easier to get a taxi.

Pros: I loved all the facilities on offer from the little kitchen to the comfy seating area and the very comfortable bed.
Cons: Would have preferred a small oven rather than a dishwasher. We ate in the room each night and found the microwave a bit limited
7.5 Good
Pros:
Cons: Requested new bulb for lamp and batteries for TV remote about 9.00am Wednesday. Came back to room about 7.30pm that evening - neither request actioned. Went down to reception and requested again. Reception staff member thereafter came up to room and resolved. Staff member apologised and said maintenance staff had been very busy that day? I didn't pursue matters further - our short stay was otherwise pleasant.

We think you'll agree that our location is perfect, but we all know it's what's on the inside that really counts. Nice views from my 4th floor window facing Prince St.

Cons: Mattress was soft and showing some age.
Some street noise--a tradeoff for the view, and not intrusive with the window and curtains closed after 10 pm.

Pros: Breakfast was excellent with a large choice of cereals, fruit and full Scottish cooked breakfast. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel is in an ideal central location near to the train and bus stations and close to many of the attractions. The room was very clean and tidy with TV, chairs, tea/coffee making facilities, etc. The bathroom was also very clean with a bath and shower.
Cons: The only minor issue we had was with the two sets of doors, which are in the hotel entrance hallway at street level. We found these a little awkward and difficult to keep open, especially when passing through with luggage.

Pros: Lunch was great bar service was good
Cons: Brilliant hotel on the main street and near the train station
6.3 Good
Pros: The only good thing most of the staff who were friendly and helpful
Cons: This hotel is very tired in need of good refurbishment, the fact that I never had a window made me feel claustrophobic, the noise in the corridors at night meant I never once had a good nights sleep. On our last night we were overcharged for drinks that we had already paid for. Will I stay here again absolutely not.

Cons: The merchant's website is not elaborative if you open a mobile version. It didnt show to book for a child. I was fooled by the same as had to pay extra for my child. Pros: Position of hotel excellent. Central and across from train station. The hotel is happy to store your luggage so arriving early or leaving late is not a problem. Good choice for breakfast. Nice having a restaurant and bar within the hotel.

Pros: I only liked breakfast. It was very good.
Cons: I stayed in bedroom 31. It was terrible, overcrowded and I regretted looking behind the bed. Bathroom was dirty. I think it is clean only once a day. There are 12 beds in a bedroom that has space only for 6. The last bed almost touch the ceiling. Twelve people sleeping in a bedroom without any ventilation. We couldn't open any windows because they were hidden behind the beds. To noise at night with higher music from bars and cars beeping outside. It's almost impossible to find a place to park the car. Without any doubt it was the worst hostel I ever stayed. Please avoid it.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view of Edinburgh can not be beat, the breakfast buffet was great.
Cons: You can hear people in the next room and also the outside noise came through at night. Not a problem until you were trying to sleep..
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, great location
Cons: Bathroom seemed like it was for handicapped people
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very well laid out
Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent

7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good. The room had a lovely outlook.
Cons: Some of the staff could have been a bit 'brighter'. Not too impressed when I had dinner as the water jug was horribly chipped, the food was slightly disappointing for the price.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good but the evening meal in the restaurant disappointing. My partner had Risotto which was soft and mushy. All chefs should know that risotto should be served Aldente.
Cons: Evening meal could have been better. Staff in restaurant seemed stressed.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location is excellent
Cons: Public toilets dirty and parts of the hotel are run down and in need of repair - the original room we were offered as a double was tiny, backed on to a fire escape where the generators were noisy and the window was broken open - so there was no way to shut out the noise - reception kindly upgraded our room - which was so much better and better value for the cost .
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: N/a
Cons: Badly in need of a refurb
