Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Cons: During our 3 night stay, I called each day twice to request a straightener and they never had one. It worked out fine, but it was offered on the card in the room. I was hoping there would be at least one day I could use it. Otherwise, great stay.

Cons: Spartan rooms that could easily be improved upon, ie. luggage racks, any decoration, lighting inside room entrance, TV system that works. One desk person (seemed like manager) said we had good view room - view was of us for double buses parked in front.

Cons: I didn't like that I had to pay inflated prices because the festival was on. Also I took I'll with a bug so didn't have as good as stay as planned. Nothing to do with the hotel I might add.

Also there are 180ish photos on the booking.com website and obviously the cheaper rooms are at the bottom so it's quite deceiving when you think you are booking a certain looking room and that's not what you get once you have booked

Cons: No residents lounge in the hotel,so you have to stay in the room or use the restaurant to sit in. Housekeeping not done until mid-afternoon, inadequate hanging space in wardrobe and bathroom. We stayed for 4 nights for various events, and found it impossible to hang up our clothing in the tiny space of the wardrobe, can’t imagine how guests staying for longer manage, presumably they have to live out of their suitcases. There is no storage space or hanging facilities in the bathroom, not even hooks on the back of the door. So you have a shower, use one of the bathrobes, but when it’s damp you have nowhere to put it afterwards. We won’t be back.

Cons: Beds are Murphy beds that fold into the wall, so they're very hard mattresses, we did not sleep well at all. Had a room with a window out onto the street and we got woken by a lot of shouting at 3am both nights (not even a weekend). Bathroom was very tiny, terrible water pressure too. We aren't large people but still found it really hard to move around the room/bathroom without knocking into things. Don't bother with the on-site breakfast - way too expensive! But there is a fab breakfast place literally in the same building around the back of the hotel (Loudons). We ended up eating there every morning for about half the price of the hotel breakfast.

Cons: I paid extra for a premium room with a city view. There was just a small view of a street near by and there was no sofa area as advertised when I booked it. They had forgotten to put a cot in the room which they confirmed they would do when booking, so we rang for one which was brought to us but this was a broken one so we had to ring to get another one which got sorted. On check in we were not told about any facilities at the hotel we could use or where breakfast would be served and times for this. We were told to come back at 12.30/1pm to check in and when we arrived back to check in at 2.15pm we were told the room still was not ready for another 20 minutes which was unfortunate as our baby needed to settle with warm milk and a nap.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite.
2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand.
3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made.
Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Cons: I suspect this was an unusual freak issue, our room had an unpleasant smell and it seemed to be coming from the bathroom. I did raise it with the staff but as we were not staying too long I was not overly fussed. When I flushed the shower, toilet, and sink by letting the water run it did seem to settle.

Cons: Boiler was broken so we had no hot water. We weren’t informed or offered any sort of compensation. I paid £133 a night and had cold showers which for me is unacceptable. When discussing this with front of house staff I was offered a free coffee. Going home now for a nice hot shower

Pros: Hilton are our Hotel Group of choice. I just thought this one to be overly expensive probably only justifying itself because of its proximity to the Old Town and the Royal Mile. The bedroom and bathroom were small and the rest of the hotel just felt like an apartment building. There was no real old-world warmth.
As you would expect the staff were very friendly and helpful.My final gripe was that the parking was public and some distance away down a hill and some very steep steps.This,I concede however,is probably the case with most Edinburgh hotels.

Cons: Being sent to another cheap hotel - The Leonardo Boutique hotel on the first day upon arrival citing system glitch. I had requested late check in which was accepted & confirmed in return by Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. But was still denied a room eventhough full payment had been deducted from my credit card a week before arrival. Actual reason was because Hilton had double booked due to Christmas market right around the corner. Found out this from the other hotel & the taxi driver whom sent us there. This it seems was quite a common incident with Hilton Edinburgh Carlton that they have a special account with other hotel owner just for this purpose. Plus the overall attitude of staff who don't seem to be bothered that they had made a mistake. Appalling for Hilton hotel legacy. Expecting guest who had come to Edinburgh to waste valuable time swapping hotels. 2nd day spent at Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. Checked in and found a dirty room & bathroom more fitting with a 2 star rating. Dust everywhere. On aircond vents, table, sofa and even the bed. Milk stain on coffee making table which had not been wiped clean. Coffee mugs and spoons had stains on them. Same issue with bathroom. Toilet seats had stain on them. Had to use tissue to cover before you use toilet. Water from shower runs down on to floor. Also disappointed due to there were no bath tub. In booking.com it was shown with shower and bath. False advertising. Breakfast was another issue. Stale sausage, haggis, and black pudding which had been re- fried many times. Leftovers from the day before. Fruits are not fresh. Pastry as hard as rock. If you don't believe me try the waffles or scones. I've had better scones from Tesco. First time hotel break fast gave me stomach problems. Coffee was watered down. Simply don't understand why a chef like Marco Pierre White would lend his name to this hotel restaurant. Hopeless. Marco Pierre White you should be angry (fuming mad) at this place....

Cons: There was a lot of external noise outside our room location from the restaurant opposite, throwing away glass bottles at midnight and then a 6am the glass bin collection, plus building work, sounded like planks of wood and metal poles being thrown around from 7:30 and then because of the room being street level just generally people walking past talking. I am a fairly deep sleeper but if you want a lay in, without ear plugs you will be woken up. Maybe the rooms on the lower levels should be triple glazed. If I was to nitpick, the settee was very hard but we were out a lot so did not really use it and previous occupants had damaged the kitchen plinth and removed the washing machine door.

Cons: The bathroom wasn't so clean and it didn't look very nice (see photo only with the shower,, the room with the toilet wasn't cleaned by the housekeepers), we couldn't open the window for fresh air as we were at the last floor and the window was blocked and it could have rained inside as the window was not in a vertical position. The most annoying think was that the housekeepers left the door opened twice after they cleaned our room. We stayed there for 5 nights and 2 times we found the door opened when we came back from the city centre so everybody could have entered in our room and steal something from us.

There are 12 beds in a bedroom that has space only for 6. The last bed almost touch the ceiling. Twelve people sleeping in a bedroom without any ventilation. We couldn't open any windows because they were hidden behind the beds. To noise at night with higher music from bars and cars beeping outside. It's almost impossible to find a place to park the car. Without any doubt it was the worst hostel I ever stayed. Please avoid it.

Shower didn’t work because of ‘pressure issues’. The same ‘pressure issues’ also meant the the hot water failed to come out of the taps unless they were fully opened for at least five minutes and then it took a good 15 minutes to fill the shallow bath. The maintenance man said this was always an issue on the third floor particularly in the morning because everyone was using the water.
Husband had to rescue something from under the sagging couch and wish he’d left it there - disgustingly filthy and left us feeling queasy that we’d been in the same room as that level of filth. Probably not been moved since the 90’s...
Relative to other hotels it’s a cheaper option but not cheap enough - I’d have paid a bit more for a consistent hot water supply and a room that had been deep cleaned in the last decade.

Pros: Great price. Perfect location to walk with luggage from the train station (less than 5 minute walk) and close to a bus stop (less than 10 minute walk) to the airport. Incredibly helpful staff. Clean rooms, well furnished. So pleased.

Cons: We had to call reception at 1700 on the 28th to make up our room. The towels were replaced, the tea cups washed but nothing was done regarding hoovering the floor. The shower was between cold and lukewarm

Open plan kitchen/dining/living room with 3 windows looking directly onto Royal Mile/Lawnmarket. All windows in the property are double glazed. Bathrooms have under floor heating. There is gas central heating. The property retains great period features; old stone fireplaces, exposed ancient stone walls; and yet provides all modern conveniences and striking decoration. Situated in the historic Old Town of Edinburgh, this is the best place to stay in the city. The Old Town is a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, packed with museums, visitor attractions, specialty shops, restaurants and pubs. Edinburgh castle is 1 minute walk from your front door. This area of the city has a real buzz and is a joy to explore. This apartment is however in a peaceful location late at night with no nightclubs or noisy pubs. This a great place to stay anytime but a prime location during the Edinburgh Festival/Fringe or at New Year.

Cons: They are not up front about several things. First there is no one at the place to handle problems. No desk, no phone number. Just email. Second, the only way to get in is by a terrible spiral stone staircase, so it is very hard to get large suitcases up. Third, when I made the reservation they immediately charged me and sent an email that I would be on the fourth floor. I made the reservation months in advance and I asked them to move me to a lower floor. They said they couldn't, but if they could it would cost 10 euros. Very hard to deal with. They also do not provide maid service unless you pay another 17 euros per day! Also no place to leave your luggage because its not a hotel. Finally, I have some serious concerns about the integrity of the apartments. The floors slope and there is serious signs of cracking and sag. At these prices, you are far better booking elsewhere!
