Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Pros: Great location. Nice lobby. Clean. Price not bad comparatively.

Pros: Great location, many pubs right across the street (but not noisy). About a 5 min walk to the Royal Mile, Elephant Cafe, or many other major sites. Also, the indoor pool was very nice; even had paddle boards for the kids to play with. Highly recommend the breakfast also, it was delicious.

8.0
Pros: Very good eggs royale at breakfast! with good, generous selection of foods for a yummy continental breakfast and nice surroundings for eating, with great view across the grassmarket to the castle. Very comfortable rooms (apart from our particular lack of ventilation, only due to position of room -doubt many have this problem). Excellent hotel position, with parking available at the back. We could nip in&out and visit some of the lovely pubs & cafes etc (including the castle itself!) that are literally just over the road. We had a really nice chill in the bar at the hotel during our stay, finding it very relaxing, whilst quietly convivial. We also called room service and had some delicious food sent up. We were very well looked-after.

Pros: The Hotel is located in a great spot! Close to restaurants and lots of main attractions, hop on hop off bus stop right in front of hotel. The staff was very pleasant and customer service was good.
Cons: It is a little outdated, they are in the works of renovation. clean bed, shower and bathrooms need a deep thorough cleaning not just wiping down BUT scrubbing with disinfectants.
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff were lovely.
Cons: Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, many pubs right across the street (but not noisy). About a 5 min walk to the Royal Mile, Elephant Cafe, or many other major sites. Also, the indoor pool was very nice; even had paddle boards for the kids to play with. Highly recommend the breakfast also, it was delicious.
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Shame our room had no opening windows in it; we had to have the noisy air-conditioning unit on the whole time at the lowest temperature just to stop it from being overbearingly hot and stuffy. didn't sleep so well with it on, had to turn it down in the night. Not great for STAFF or guests to have to deal with people literally shooting up drugs (does one assume heroine?) on the back steps at rear of hotel -I would not go out that way for fear of a sharps injury and instead was trundling around the front of the hotel with all our luggage. It is no doubt an absolute boon that you have parking, but for the sake of your STAFF (& guests!) this should be improved somehow -it would appear that one of the 'standard' members of staff at the desk had to go and 'deal with' the situation -that should not be expected of your staff -they obviously have to deal with this on a regular basis from the reaction at the front desk -they are at risk of sharps injuries -either from being attacked by the addicts they are trying to clear away, or whilst trying to clear up the area after they have gone and likely left used syringes lying around...
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location to visit the castle.
Cons:
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Conveniently located in the Grassmarket district of Edinburgh within a very easy walk of several excellent restaurants and pubs, this hotel has an excellent view of the Old Town and the castle, which is only a few minutes away by foot. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bar staff provided ice for no extra charge.
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location.
Cons: The shower. Was hard to keep water off the floor. I'd suggest adding a shower curtain. It was just too difficult to not get water on the floor.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Apex Grassmarket was great. 5 star all the way.
Cons: Taxi mistakenly let us off at Apex International next door where we were greeted as lepers and quickly shown the side door exit to an alley!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location for attractions. Marvellous and helpful, friendly staff. Rooms are perfect and queen beds very comfortable and pillows are fab! Would definitely recommend. Myself and friends will be back next year for Christmas markets.
Cons: Nothing! 2nd visit and love it.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location and great staff
Cons: Awkward location of hairdryer. No fan in bathroom. Duvet cover could have been softer and I like a sheet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds very large lots of pillows and very comfy
Cons: The way to/from the car park could be better sign posted
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice snack and sandwich stand in lobby.
Cons: TV remote control was sticky and the buttons' markings were worn off. Dust bunnies behind the wall-mounted TV panel. Sit-down breakfast only until 10 AM. A lot of stairs to climb from parking lot and between parts of lobby.
Apex Grassmarket is located in the heart of Old Town Edinburgh with large en suite bedrooms with complimentary Wi-Fi, 42" LCD TV's and Elemis toiletries. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and Technogym, a car park and a glass-fronted restaurant with stunning Edinburgh Castle views. There are seven meeting and event spaces that will suit more formal business needs or weddings and larger events in the Heights space on the fifth floor with unforgettable views of Edinburgh.
You'll love the castle views from the hotel and the fact that within a few minutes you can be on the Royal Mile, or exploring the National Museum of Scotland or even sipping a coffee at The Elephant House - the café where J K Rowling began writing some of her early Harry Potter work.
The InterContinental Edinburgh The George has been welcoming hotel guests since 1881. At its heart are five listed Georgian townhouses, built in 1775 as homes for Edinburgh’s most prosperous citizens. The hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the city or conduct business. The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen was once home to acclaimed novelist Susan Ferrier, whilst Burr & Co. is a lovely quirky coffee shop with a devoted local following. The hotel also boasts 8 meeting rooms and equipped gym.

Pros: Central location, friendly concierge team. Good breakfast.
Cons: Noisy room - next to service lift being worked on for two days. Lots of rooms here back onto access street for services including bins. You don’t need a wake up call as bottle bin is emptied at 6.30 am. Reception staff that didn’t want to hear, let alone respond to, feedback. Almost argumentative as if they often are on the defensive. Small room and bathroom described as ‘Superior King’’. Housekeeping staff entering room without knocking.

Pros: Staff in general were very friendly and helpful. Christmas decorations were brilliant. reception were very helpful
Cons: Bar staff and service was terrible, no food served in bar. Breakfast buffet was great but ordered food was terrible slow over 20 min for a bowl of porridge.seemed to be a lot of additional functions which meant the guests were pushed aside for. should not 5 staff if can not cope with both. very loud music from a fuction on the last night.

Pros: Hilton are our Hotel Group of choice. I just thought this one to be overly expensive probably only justifying itself because of its proximity to the Old Town and the Royal Mile. The bedroom and bathroom were small and the rest of the hotel just felt like an apartment building. There was no real old-world warmth.
As you would expect the staff were very friendly and helpful. My final gripe was that the parking was public and some distance away down a hill and some very steep steps. This,I concede however,is probably the case with most Edinburgh hotels.

Pros: Absolutely nothing. I was disgusted with Hilton Edinburgh Carlton staff attitude and overall cleanliness.
Cons: Being sent to another cheap hotel - The Leonardo Boutique hotel on the first day upon arrival citing system glitch. I had requested late check in which was accepted & confirmed in return by Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. But was still denied a room eventhough full payment had been deducted from my credit card a week before arrival. Actual reason was because Hilton had double booked due to Christmas market right around the corner. Found out this from the other hotel & the taxi driver whom sent us there. This it seems was quite a common incident with Hilton Edinburgh Carlton that they have a special account with other hotel owner just for this purpose. Plus the overall attitude of staff who don't seem to be bothered that they had made a mistake. Appalling for Hilton hotel legacy. Expecting guest who had come to Edinburgh to waste valuable time swapping hotels. 2nd day spent at Hilton Edinburgh Carlton. Checked in and found a dirty room & bathroom more fitting with a 2 star rating. Dust everywhere. On aircond vents, table, sofa and even the bed. Milk stain on coffee making table which had not been wiped clean. Coffee mugs and spoons had stains on them. Same issue with bathroom. Toilet seats had stain on them. Had to use tissue to cover before you use toilet. Water from shower runs down on to floor. Also disappointed due to there were no bath tub. In booking.com it was shown with shower and bath. False advertising. Breakfast was another issue. Stale sausage, haggis, and black pudding which had been re- fried many times. Leftovers from the day before. Fruits are not fresh. Pastry as hard as rock. If you don't believe me try the waffles or scones. I've had better scones from Tesco. First time hotel break fast gave me stomach problems. Coffee was watered down. Simply don't understand why a chef like Marco Pierre White would lend his name to this hotel restaurant. Hopeless. Marco Pierre White you should be angry (fuming mad) at this place....
4.0 Okay
Pros: The refurbished room on the 4th floor was spacious, clean and nicely appointed - aiming for a modern twist on the 1920s and must be said succeeding
Cons: It is an expensive to stay in building site. Most annoyingly was checking in at 3.40 and being sent to a room that was still being cleaned. Front desk should have foresight to deal with this in way befitting a 4* hotel. I almost felt I was in the wrong.

Pros: Reception and bar staff very helpful and friendly. Room and view great and great location
Cons: I left 2 presents in my room when departing- I phoned and they had not been handed in by the persons cleaning my room which is disgraceful and a sad reflection of certain individuals in society

Pros: Location was Great, room was tidy and clean.
Cons: We were not told the room key was required to access the floor levels in the elevator. No information on what time breakfast was served or where until asked. Room had one to many mirrors.

Pros: Bed was very comfortable
Cons: Storage in room (drawers) very poor considering the star rating. Tea and milk selection poor - only 1 green team bag. Disappointed as a premier inn provides better facilities then this 5 star hotel.

Pros:
Cons: Parking was really far

Pros: Rooms were lovely and beds very comfy. Bathroom very modern and shower was amazing.
Cons: Requested an iron in the room prior to arrival but it wasn't there.
The heating came on at 6am and was very noisy. This woke my partner and I up and we couldn't get back to sleep with the noise.
The tea/coffee machine in the room did not work.
Left my straighteners behind in the room but when I contacted the hotel to enquire about this they said they checked and they were not there. That is a mystery to me.

Pros:
Cons: Rooms had no air conditioning,, we were unable to open any windows so it was very stuffy. Breakfast not up to G & V standard.

Pros: The staff were lovely and only too happy to help me.
Cons: I booked into the Fraser suites, however due to a maintenance issue my room was not available. I was therefore booked into their sister hotel, Du Vin , slightly further away from the town centre and train station. I had been booked into a deluxe double at the Fraser Suites, however at the hotel Du Vin, I was allocated only a double. One of the ceiling lights by the bedroom door didn’t work and one of the bedside lights could not be switched off. As it was late I ended up sleeping with the light on all night. I mentioned this in the morning at checkout and explained I was not happy, as yet I have heard nothing back - so disappointed.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location and big rooms
Cons: Some of the staff were very helpful. Other staff members spoke to me as if they couldn’t be bothered with the conversation when I was asking valid questions about my room, not helpful, looking away from me and back to the computer to end the conversation instead of being professional. Generally got the feeling they couldn’t have cared less about what i had to say

Cons: To noisy, windows so old, cant keep noise out.

Cons: Unfortunately there was a domestic row in the next room (209) with a female being aggressively loud and shrill from c 3.00am till c4.30am depriving me of sleep. I believe someone must have reported it as I heard knocking at the door and the row ending shortly thereafter.

Pros: The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel is located on an alleyway, but walkable to the main sights.
Cons: The tv in the living room was broken for our visit; maintenance fixed it on the second day but it went out again that same night. The "24 hour reception" was usually unstaffed, forcing us to leave our keys on the floor outside the office door to do our pre scheduled early morning checkout.

Cons: The fact they lost my bag as they had no idea what room they had put it in due to changing my room 3/4 times and then one of the night staff opening our room door early morning, luckily I woke up and stopped him but there was no apology when this was mentioned as we checked out even with us bringing it up.I have no idea why he was trying to get into the room but it's not what you expect

Pros: Location very good and as a single female traveler I felt safe! Staff very polite and accommodating.

Pros: Liked the area of the hotel and the decor.

Pros: Location, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, appearance of apartment and convenience.
Cons: Small point, but could have done with a coffee table to be able to eat at. I arrived very late on Sunday and had to get a takeaway, eating off the floor wasn't so good.

Pros: Fantastic location. Early entry. Good communication.
Cons: Shower stand taped together. Luke warm water for bath. Dirty around skirting boards in bathroom. 2 out of four mugs chipped or cracked. Main front door remained unlocked at all times despite obviously being a security risk. Smoking within stairwell and cigarette ends lying. Probably value for money due to location however not a room we would like to spend a log of time in or revisit. Not reflective of pictures when booking but as stated they have many properties so may have been different one.

Cons: The room was on the first floor and the building was really old. You could hear people talking on the road beneath and every car that drove past so didn’t get much sleep. Also the curtains didn’t fit the big windows so couldn’t cover all the light
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic stay on the the Royal Mile!
Cons:
4.8 Okay
Pros: If you like being in the middle of the tourist trap it is perfect.
Cons: They are not up front about several things. First there is no one at the place to handle problems. No desk, no phone number. Just email. Second, the only way to get in is by a terrible spiral stone staircase, so it is very hard to get large suitcases up. Third, when I made the reservation they immediately charged me and sent an email that I would be on the fourth floor. I made the reservation months in advance and I asked them to move me to a lower floor. They said they couldn't, but if they could it would cost 10 euros. Very hard to deal with. They also do not provide maid service unless you pay another 17 euros per day! Also no place to leave your luggage because its not a hotel. Finally, I have some serious concerns about the integrity of the apartments. The floors slope and there is serious signs of cracking and sag. At these prices, you are far better booking elsewhere!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location. Good value for money
Cons:
6.0 Good
Pros: Room was lovely great size and location!
Cons: There was what seemed to be fresh stains in the toilet upon arrival
This apartment located in the heart of the Old Town can accommodate a maximum of 6 persons. There are two bedrooms; 1 king size double en suite with TV, one twin, Double sofa bed in living room, 2nd bathroom. Bedrooms are peaceful and quiet at night. Open plan kitchen/dining/living room with 3 windows looking directly onto Royal Mile/Lawnmarket. All windows in the property are double glazed. Bathrooms have under floor heating. There is gas central heating. The property retains great period features; old stone fireplaces, exposed ancient stone walls; and yet provides all modern conveniences and striking decoration. Situated in the historic Old Town of Edinburgh, this is the best place to stay in the city. The Old Town is a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, packed with museums, visitor attractions, specialty shops, restaurants and pubs. Edinburgh castle is 1 minute walk from your front door. This area of the city has a real buzz and is a joy to explore. This apartment is however in a peaceful location late at night with no nightclubs or noisy pubs. This a great place to stay anytime but a prime location during the Edinburgh Festival/Fringe or at New Year.
With a stay at The Place, you'll be centrally located in Edinburgh, steps from Princes Street and 3 minutes by foot from Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, and multilingual staff.

Pros:
Cons: On the booking site I chose a deal with breakfast included. On arriving at the hotel we were told this was not the case and that booking.com arrangements did not usually include breakfast. The shower cubicle was rather small especially for my husband who is 6' 3". This had not been our experience on previous visits.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was clean and well presented, service was excellent all easy and not a problem, perfect location short walk from everything you need including a 24 hour car park
Cons: Small things like the shower base wasn’t grippy and I nearly slipped and hurt myself, plus the room was really warm being in the basement but the skylight shut itself at night leaving the room very hot even with the heating off
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Bathroom, room itself.
Cons: Breakfast wasn''t of the same standard as the room or the hotel in general. Our second day they ran out of things on the buffet. Croissants were good.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Proximity to the tram
Cons: No elevator - had to carry 20kg suitcases to 3rd floor dusty furniture
4.0 Okay
Pros: The location was great
Cons: This is not a four star hotel by any standard. The bathroom was tiny and had to wedge sideways into the shower. The sink was the size of a cup. There was old musty carpet in the room. I was in fourth floor with no lift, and was not told at check in.

Cons: Small attic type room in top floor with no lift and a lot of stairs Tiniest bathroom I've ever seen, not enough room between toilet and shower cubicle Very basic for the rate charged, disappointing

Pros: Location, location, location. Within walking distance (<1 mile) of every place I needed to be or wanted to see on a mostly-business trip.
Nice views from my 4th floor window facing Prince St.
Bathroom was thoroughly up-to-date and very clean.
Cons: Mattress was soft and showing some age.
Some street noise--a tradeoff for the view, and not intrusive with the window and curtains closed after 10 pm.
7.1 Good
Pros: Wifi didn't work on my iPhone, only my iPad.
Cons: There is demolition of a building right behind my room. They start early in the morning. It wasn't pleasant at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Included breakfast was excellent with free hot beverage service too. The location cannot be beat, in the center of everything. Easy to rent a car, walk the royal mile, shop, eat, and see all the sights Edinburgh has to offer!
Cons:

Pros: Location
Cons: Rooms need updating, very noisy could hear toilets, showers from surrounding rooms. Hotel in need of overhaul.

Pros: Breakfast was excellent with a large choice of cereals, fruit and full Scottish cooked breakfast. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel is in an ideal central location near to the train and bus stations and close to many of the attractions. The room was very clean and tidy with TV, chairs, tea/coffee making facilities, etc. The bathroom was also very clean with a bath and shower.
Cons: The only minor issue we had was with the two sets of doors, which are in the hotel entrance hallway at street level. We found these a little awkward and difficult to keep open, especially when passing through with luggage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lunch was great bar service was good
Cons: Brilliant hotel on the main street and near the train station
6.3 Good
Pros: The only good thing most of the staff who were friendly and helpful
Cons: This hotel is very tired in need of good refurbishment, the fact that I never had a window made me feel claustrophobic, the noise in the corridors at night meant I never once had a good nights sleep. On our last night we were overcharged for drinks that we had already paid for. Will I stay here again absolutely not.

Pros: Location was excellent.
Cons:
5.7 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: The merchant's website is not elaborative if you open a mobile version. It didnt show to book for a child. I was fooled by the same as had to pay extra for my child. For some reason, they charged me the whole amount for bfast inclusive, but bfast deal wasn't showing. I travelled from India and had the worst experience as had to check out early.

Pros: Position of hotel excellent. Central and across from train station. The hotel is happy to store your luggage so arriving early or leaving late is not a problem. Good choice for breakfast. Nice having a restaurant and bar within the hotel.
Cons: Creaking floor boards in rooms. Poached egg cooked well but tasted heavily of vinegar. Jacket potato on the greasy side as if it had been deep fried.

Pros: The staff was very nice. Very friendly. Very affordable. The best for backpackers
Cons: Not enough utensils, cups ie you have to be very lucky to get the few cleaned ones Didnt like the dorm of 18beds. Not comfy for couple. Was noisy in the night. A bit of space would be great, e.g everything is so cosy. No secured lock in the dorm unless you bring your own locker Secured locker is paying. And could not check out late nor check in earlier. hence, you have to put your lugage in the paying locker or stay there until your time is ready. No access to free breakfast when booked with booking.com.

Cons: Theres only one toilet in the room and the other toilet is very far from my room.
1.0 Poor
Pros: I only liked breakfast. It was very good.
Cons: I stayed in bedroom 31. It was terrible, overcrowded and I regretted looking behind the bed. Bathroom was dirty. I think it is clean only once a day. There are 12 beds in a bedroom that has space only for 6. The last bed almost touch the ceiling. Twelve people sleeping in a bedroom without any ventilation. We couldn't open any windows because they were hidden behind the beds. To noise at night with higher music from bars and cars beeping outside. It's almost impossible to find a place to park the car. Without any doubt it was the worst hostel I ever stayed. Please avoid it.

Pros: I loved my room. I had paid extra for a quiet room on the business floor. My room was very quiet and looked at the building next door. I decided I wanted a view from the front and they kindly moved me to the ground floor. Their windows were double paned and even though there are lots of cars on the road, it was quiet as well as bright and even had a bathtub. Not all the rooms do. I didn't know Scotland used different plugs than Switzerland and Germany and they loaned me an adaptor. They also helped me with great directions and suggestions for things to do. The Urban Angel restaurant nearby is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to with artistically flavored local, organic food.

Pros: Location is excellent
Cons: Public toilets dirty and parts of the hotel are run down and in need of repair - the original room we were offered as a double was tiny, backed on to a fire escape where the generators were noisy and the window was broken open - so there was no way to shut out the noise - reception kindly upgraded our room - which was so much better and better value for the cost .
