The wait for the car 2,hoursCons:The shuttle never came to pick us we waited for 45 minutes on We had to take a cab to the Payless. When we got there it was a 100 person line on a Thursday at 6 pm. We waited for 1.25 hours when I got to the check in and asked why only 1 person and the much later a second person to rent the car, his response is well we are the cheapest (not really ). I said you get what you pay for he smiled. When I told him the shuttle never came , he said well I give you a discount on an upgrade .. it's part of their upscale ... they are relentless to sell an unpleasant.Reviewed 5 Dec 2016

Ups and DownsPros:Ms. Walker! When we had to return the original vehicle because of a flat tire, Ms. Walker was the best! At first when we returned the minivan it seemed we were going to have issues. No one was at the front desk. A gentleman waiting there said he had been waiting for an hour to talk to a manager. But we were told to go out and wait for a minivan to show up. Once that showed up we could start the process of transferring the contract. Ms. Walker was awesome, she made sure we got another vehicle, she made sure our paperwork was done before we were even done transferring our luggage to the new vehicle and she upgraded us for our inconvenience. The thing is she was great before all of that. When she walked up to the counter, she had a smile on her face, she was friendly and she sparkled, literally! Thank you Ms. Sheila Walker! you made what could have been a terrible way to start a road trip so much better!Cons:I will say this some of your practices need to be looked at. When I rented the vehicle, the agent at the counter could not take no for an answer when she offered insurance. I spent no less than 5 minutes telling her that I did not want the insurance you offer. At the same time there should have been some communication about the $150 deposit that was placed on the card. When I called the customer service number for the LAX location the voicemail box was full. When I called the 800 number to talk to someone I was told to call the location. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I finally was able to talk to someone, and he gave me an attitude.Reviewed 16 Feb 2016

Most awful rental car experience of my lifePros:I didn't like anything.Cons:We waited for 30 minutes to be picked up from the airport, after watching other rental busses pass 3-5 times. Then the attendant at the counter was barely able to understand me as I spoke my name and address. Once he found out we were declining insurance coverage, he told us we had to go to a different counter. That attendant told us that that's what they do to bad customers. The facility was dirty and old. After dropping off the car, the system was down so we had to wait 10 minutes for a receipt. Then, I got a sunburn waiting an hour or so for the shuttle. When it finally came, it wasted 15 minutes dropping off someone who wasn't even a customer (there were 12 or more paying customers aboard, some late for flights). The driver several times was driving forward without looking at the road. I made my flight by only a few minutes. I wouldn't use this company again if it was free.Reviewed 18 Aug 2016

Horrible office and customer servicePros:2ndtime there. Understaffed, 1hr hour wait for a car, rudest woman I have ever met that assigns cars to you. I truly thought that a person like that would not be able to maintain her job with her level of uncaring, unprofessionalism, and out right controlling offensiveness. And there she was again for the second time! It was the holidays and understand that price gouging was occurring, to pay $125 per day for a tiny car was absurd. I may never use kayak again to Rent-A-Car, Hertz maybe expensive but at least they have good customer service.Cons:2ndtime there. Non-starterPros:NothingCons:I waited 30 minutes for a shuttle at LAX Terminal 4, then I called Payless and they said a shuttle would come every 8 minutes. I finally gave up and got a cab to Payless/Fox facility where there were 40 people waiting on the steps for a shuttle back to the airport. The queue for Payless was 10 people and there was one Employee working at the time (four people working the Fox queue) . Luckily the Thrifty car rental was within walking distance so I went there to rent a car. When I returned the Thrifty car they gave me a paper 'bus ticket' for return shuttle to airport, this is how they keep the Fox/Payless customers off the Thrifty shuttle buses! What a crappy experience.Reviewed 12 Apr 2017

Reserved for "Ford Explorer or Simillar"Cons:Using Kayak I reserved for "Ford Explorer or Similar", it didn't have specifics to say Fullsize SUV or Standard SUV. At Payless I was not offered to pick-up "Ford Explorer or Similar" because the reservation was made for Standard SUV. Ford Expoler or Similar would require a fullsize reservation. I was asked to contact kayak or priceless to fix the reservation. I had to wait for an hour sorting it out. I don't know why Kayak would put in a request for standard vehicle when the website showed fullsize vehicle. Caused a lot of confusion and wastage of my time. Felt like I should never rent cars from 3rd party companies.Reviewed 2 Dec 2015

Pros:Their willingness to make things fast, but they just don't get it. Returning the vehicles were quite fast and efficient. Bravo!Cons:Even though I called twice to make sure they will be opened before 7am, they failed to pick us up from the airport until 8:20am There was only one agent working for a line of more than 20 people, and there was a family with 6 children waiting for more than 1 hour for their vehicle After waiting for one hour and were ready to pick up our vehicle, there was no one to help us to get our vehicle, and we were more than 10 families waiting for someone that never showed up, we ended up getting help from the people who were washing vehicles. We almost missed our flight because their vehicle was late, and we were too many people for one ride. We noticed they had like 10 shuttles parked at their place, but only one working .Reviewed 4 Apr 2016

Late Shuttle, Wrong Paperwork!Pros:Nothing.Cons:Everything. The shuttle from the airport arrived closer to every 20mins, and there was no help from the driver with bags. The line at the office was slow, with not enough staff, and I was given someone else's paperwork - only to learn that upon returning the vehicle. The vehicle was not clean - but neither were the three others I checked. Upon returning the car and learning someone else's name was on my paperwork, I would have had to wait in a line of 20 people with 1 service agent available, so I left. For the $5 I saved renting with Payless, I paid tenfold in loss of time, quality of service and hassle. I will never rent from these guys again.Reviewed 19 Dec 2015

Horrible rental experiencePros:Car did get decent gas mileage. The people working outside when returning the car were very nice.Cons:The checking was the worst! We had a two hour wait after our rental reservation (stood in like from 12:30 am to 3 am). Limited car choices once we got checked in. Some cars had some stains on he interior. Scratches all over the outside of the car. One car we were going to choose smelled like cigarettes. We called the day before to check to see how long it would to return the car. We were on hold for 30+ minutes. The person in the phone told us it would take an hour and a half to return our car. It only took 2 minutes, so we had to spend another hour and a half then originally planned in the airport instead of at the beach.Reviewed 30 Mar 2017

Cons:The customer service aspect was terrible. Before returning the vehicle I called to see what was the process to extend the rental. The initial transfer was done without saying anything not a “hold on” “one moment” or anything like that. After being transferred multiple times I was eventually redirected to the main store. They never could give an actual amount of hoe much it would be to extend. Upon returning, the guy to scan the vehicle in miscommunicated where he wanted the vehicle. He then got into an argument with my passenger as if he was he driver. The service was terrible and not a pleasant experience. Payless rental will never see my business again no matter what their low rates may be.Reviewed 19 Oct 2017

You get what you pay forPros:I got a Toyota Camry for a week for very little money.Cons:The shuttle from LAX to Payless/Fox car rental barely ran. There was at least a 30 minute wait for a shuttle, and the brand name larger companies' shuttles kept on coming and coming while we waited. Once we got to Payless, a man came in panting because, despite his flailing, the Payless shuttle passed him by, and he had to walk an extremely long distance to Payless after waiting over 30 minutes for the shuttle that ignored him. I was on the shuttle and saw him flail to no avail. Once we were processed at the counter, we were told to go into the lot to Section 6 where someone would further assist us. No one was there. Finally, the three of us (all in our 40s) figured out that the keys were in the cars and we were just supposed to choose one! There was a nasty cleaning glove left in the car, and thank goodness we didn't need to use the back seat, because the upholstery was extremely dirty. The return process was chaotic, with too many cars in one tiny area where we were told to pull up and were checked out. It was a long walk to the shuttle station, and a longer wait for the shuttle. Next time, I think I'll choose to spend a little more and get a little more for my money.Reviewed 17 Apr 2016
