Pros: When I dropped off the car, I told the attendant, "I'll be back. I like you guys", and she laughed out loud. Got exactly the car I wanted, there were no mechanical or other issues, it went very smoothly.
Cons: There was some refuse in the car that the people who cleaned it from the previous renters, but it did not spoil the experience.
Kayak vs Alamo misalignment; huge truck vs low end
Pros: The manager found us a vehicle to take so we were able to leave the airport.
Cons: We requested a standard sedan; we were told that even though we booked it before we arrived, none were available. We had to take the only feasible vehicle: a huge Ram pickup truck with no trunk or covered storage. We had to wait for a truck to be found and brought up. Thankfully it was not raining on our luggage in the truck bed. We were then told we could exchange the vehicle the next day for the car we wanted, at Santa Ana.
Pros: The fact that the vehicle I reserved was actually what I got!!!! That never happens...
Cons: I had to sign up on line for fast track tolls
Pros: Check in and checkout were so easy. I was there for less than 5 min. They were friendly and courteous. The car was clean and I really enjoyed driving it (Nissan Altima). I would rent with Alamo again because of this experience.

Read the fine print
Pros: Our car was clean and was a great price.
Cons: They've recently changed their policy so you cannot secure your vehicle with a credit card and pay cash. Several people in front of us in line had the same issue. The employee working the counter was extremely rude about the change. In his defense, I'm sure he was probably getting yelled at often; but he was extremely unprofessional. As he told me several times, I should have read the fine print, so I'm passing that advice into you now.
No rental car
Cons: I paid a $45 deposit for a rental car that was never reserved so we were stuck without a car. I want a full refund. Terrible service!

Pros: The lady who helped was very nice. The car type I rented was not available and ready upon arrival, but she was able to provide a comp upgrade for the inconvenience.

Deceptive Toll Program
Cons: I was told about Plate Pass, which allows drivers to use electronic toll. I was never told that one of the only roads in the US not covered was right outside the Long Beach Airport. After Hertz had their way with me I ended up having to pay 60 dollars for a 0.25 cent toll. Fraudulent marketing, negligent customer disclosure, and bad service on the backend. After many years with Hertz I am calling it quits.
Excellent customer service and a good value
Pros: I have rented many cars at LGB airport. This experience with Hertz was the best I've ever had anywhere. Ebony is the reason. She welcomed me with a big smile. Throughout the check out, she was both very professional and friendly. She took the time to explain everything and asked if I had questions. How refreshing in this day and age. The car was great, and the car return was easy.
Watch the tolls
Pros: The car was absolutely fine and as expected.
Cons: Hertz neglected to discuss tolls with us. We took a toll road, and did not have an option to pay cash or a transponder. We tried to pay it online but were told we would have to pay it through Hertz. When I called Hertz they were completely unhelpful, and when we dropped off the car we found out we would have to pay a $25 penalty on top of the toll. They claim they have no responsibility for this, but that's ridiculous. This may just be an issue with staff at Long Beach airport, but I was pretty frustrated and angry.
Good value for the money, but no option for hands free calling

Cons: The car wasn't very clean and I was shocked that there was no blue tooth option or any way for hands free calling.
Pros: Very nice lady at the counter. No line. Quick checkout. Not too much upselling. Know that's their job though, she read me well. Made the offer but didn't over-push it.

Pros: The car was clean, new but still easy to use and functional, and it ran well.
Cons: I realize it has its purpose but when parallel parking in California you will get close to other vehicles and part of the safety features for the car to beep when you're backing up. I don't think there's a street you can parallel park on that it won't beep but it's just annoying. I understand its purpose, and I don't think there's anything hertz can do about it but this is just a comment.

By the time I arrived at the airport, the fuel had gine down at most .3 gallons. Agent charged me $15, even thiugh I showed her the gas receipt. She was just being unreasonable.
1 hour wait time to pick up Vehicle
Pros: I waited 1 hour to pickup my vehicle on Friday morning. There was only one person working at the Hertz counter, when all other rental car agencies had 2-3 people and no line (as they were able to move through customers quickly). I rented a car because I had an important job interview, thankfully my flight came in early enough that I was not late for the interview, however it added a lot of un-needed stress to my day.
Prepaid Rental but Hertz didn't have it available.
Cons: Prepaid for an SUV rental to seat 7. Arrived and they didn't have an SUV available to seat 7. Tried to convince me I didn't have that many passengers. Was able to get an SUV next door at Avis. Supposed to be getting a refund from Hertz but haven't received confirmation of that which was promised after spending more than an hour on hold with Customer Service and having to spell my last name "Jackson" six different times. Who knows if I'll ever get my money back.
Pros: Easy pickup. Didn't run into any hidden charges.
Cons: Line to pick up and drop off was a bit slow. Wanted to have the $200 hold place on a credit card but wasn't given the option. Just a minor inconvenience since the hold was placed on my debit card.

Wasted 20 min with my oversized bags just to figure out the car was booked at long beach airport 30 min away. 2. Hertz could not change my reservation to sna because I booked through kayak 3. I returned the car 1 day early. Hertz could not refund, rebate or credit me, because I booked through Kayak. Kayak support was not available. 4. I wanted to return the car to Sna as opposed to Long beach airport. I could not because i booked through Kayak so Hertz wouldn't do anything for me. I tried to call Kayak and no one available

Pros: Our Agent was really nice, professional and competent - someone should give her a raise. Car was nice, location was perfect, easy experience.
Cons: The drop off location was a little clunky, it was hard to know where to leave the car and once parked, what to do - you had to find the kiosk, bring your keys (we left them in the car) and note your miles to relay to the attendant. Not the biggest deal, but def not clear.
Cons: As mentioned before, they refused to explain the upcharge on my bill and where/why it occurred. I was not under the impression that I upgraded my vehicle at any point.

Cons: I waited in line for over an hour to pick up my reserved car. When I arrived, there were three people in front of me and one person working the counter. Similarly, it took more than 20 minutes on my return just to get into the lot. The Hertz employees were moving around other cars and made me wait at the entrance while they did so. As I was only anticipating parking, dropping the keys in the express return, and walking to the terminal (rental return is literally 200 feet from check-in at LGB), this half hour delay caused some concern that I might miss my flight.
We should have gone through AAA because it would have given us full cover
Pros: The employees were helpful. Paying the 200 dallar deposit was a surprise and the 500 dallar insurance deductible was a surprise. To be fair, Capital One Visa surprised us with only 17 day coverage. So we learned the hard way. No grabbing a rental car in a hurry without reading and talking to all the experts first.

Cons: At the airport, I was bullied by a female agent as I left the lot — she literally pulled a car in front of me so I was blocked off. I was given not only the most basic car that reminded me of a 1990 car I owned, but a car with two broken hub caps that were so torn up that one was about to fall off and was vibrating and making a nasty humming noise...I did t notice until I got off the freeway to check if I had a flat tire....so I called to complain but NO ONE answered for ages....so I called the main number and they sent me to a city location to switch it out where they only had an old filthy car that seemed to have been sitting for years and another “upgrade” Mitsubishi Lancer that had painted on “X’s” all over the car (identifying all the damage) which was soooooo embarrassing to drive especially driving up to the Ritz and Hyatt valet. I paid insurance on a rent-a-wreck and drove them around with utter humility. The agents tried their best to help me out (they were super nice!) but I guess it’s all they had. But given the junk I drove, I’m never renting from Avis in O.C. Again, however.

Cons: I received a confirmation phone call the day before travel and spoke with a gentleman at the rental location and gave him my flight information and confirmed that I would be there. He told me there was no airport shuttle and to take an Uber. My flight was on time and I jumped in an Uber and arrived at my rental location at 12:05 (my pick up was at 12:00). The doors to the office were locked and the security guard came over to let me know that it was closed. The location was closed, the guy left early and woull not be back. Now I was stranded in the middle of Santa Anna with my bags after traveling 10+ hours across the country. I contacted Avis customer service and was told that they could not help me because the location was closed and there were no other cars in orange county. The only option was to take an Uber to the Long Beach airport to pick up a car. He offered to give me my same rate. Ha, what a joke! That's all you're going to do for me is guarantee the same rate but I have to take an Uber to another airport? Are you kidding me? Totally unacceptable and horrendous customer service. Needless to say, I was stranded because it was memorial day weekend and there were no cars available with any company. This ruined my trip before it could even get started. Nice work avis.

I asked if there was another vehicle I could use instead of having to wait, he said let's give it 20 minutes and we will go from there. Traveling often I have never had a rental company ask me to wait so long for a vehicle rental. Also, when I asked about drop off locations near my hotel the person at the counter could not give me proper directions.

Pros: We took the Long Beach Transit City Bus directly to the Long Beach Airport to rent this $20/day, ( A $49 cost at Enterprise in town) Allianz insurance was only $9 a day for car damage.

On our return flight, we turned our car in at the appointed 4:00 time to find a note on the desk that said “please place the keys in the Dropbox. We had expected to get a ride to the airport, but that was not to be. We walked 20 minutes or so to the airport and barely made our flight. The communication with your renters needs some work.

Took a $10 Uber to the office, and two young unprofessional girls were there. “I was at lunch”. After we took the car and got to the hotel, they call us and told us they left keys in our car so they came and met us and switched us cars. What a joke. The replacement car was a crappy, smoke smelling Kia Soul, nothing like the commercial with the hamsters. I had never seen a rental car in such bad condition.

Pros: Absolutely the WORST. I will never use Ace again. The receptionist was rude and behaved as if we were interrupting her phone conversation.
Cons: What in the world does unlimited mileage mean? This is false and misleading and a waste of our time. We went back to the airport and rented from Avis. Don't rent from Ace!

Cons: Upon pick up was told that I could not rent car if I did not purchase extra insurance. At drop off was informed that I was not supposed to drive out of state of California. I booked because online it said unlimited miles. The price quoted online to what I paid was 4-5 times higher.
Customer service sucks
Cons: Lied about sending shuttle to pick me up.
Pros: The car was as promised and worked well for my needs. The staff wasn't exactly friendly but they were courteous.
Cons: The business is not located at the airport as advertised. A shuttle wasn't provided until I called to find out where their office was located, which is several blocks away. I was asked for proof of insurance which took me a while to get. I didn't know ahead of time that I would need that. Overall I got a negative vibe, like I was bothering them by being there and making them work. The staff wasn't rude but they weren't friendly. I will be happier renting elsewhere from now on.
Ace rental car
Cons: had to wait 45 minutes for pickup, no one at the counter.
Cons: I didn't like that the price online was $188.00 , but when I got to Allied it was $274.00 plus a $200.00 deposit. Nothing was mentioned about a deposit when I ordered the car online. Even when I returned the car, the girl couldn't figure out why I was charged for a extra day. However, she charged me. I will not recommend Kayak or Allied Rent a Car to anyone. My clue should have been not to rent when I saw the cracked windshield and dents in van. Very dissatisfied.

Pros: Very small operation in Long Beach; the girls picked us up at the airport with the shuttle, then worked behind the desk to rent and take back the car. Both were very nice.
Cons: The interior of the car was the dirtiest I have ever seen in a rental car. The girl at the desk at pickup mentioned that the person who cleaned the cars was not there, or only worked several times per week. When we checked into our hotel, I borrowed towels and a bottle of spray cleaner from the maid to clean the heavily stained seats, crumbs and dirt in the cup holders of our Ace Rental Car. The towels were black after I rubbed down the seats, probably our clothes too. Tried to use the windshield washer while driving on the highway, which was empty. The windshield wipers pushed dirt back and forth on the windshield without the aid of liquid. Be careful to document every scratch when you pick up the car. Most car rentals agencies say they are not concerned about scratches under a couple of inches, where Ace seemed to go over every scratch, which made me nervous as they held a $200 deposit before releasing the car. Funny, they didn’t care that the interior was disgusting and when I told the girl at the return that I had to clean the interior, she told me; “That’s alright”.

Cons: I paid extra money to reserve an SUV. They called me a few days ahead of my booking to let me know that they had overbooked their SUVs and downgraded me to a car and since prices had risen since I booked, they charged me SUV price for a car (over $10 more per day) despite the error on their end. I had an early flight on my return leg so their shuttle service wasn't running and they explicitly told me to take the Marriott's shuttle service instead. The driver for the Marriott said they had been told not to direct their customers to them, seemed really annoyed, but (generously) gave me a ride anyway. Very embarrassing.
Filthy interior. Blatant lies
Pros: The pickup experience and gals at the front desk were nice.
Cons: The filthyness of the vehicle. Seats were a mess. Crusty residue on the steering wheel. Smelled like smoke.

Cons: got a call the day before saying the car was not available. All they could provide is a lower model without any credit. cancelled the order and needed to re-rent with another company for $150 more.
What a ripoff!
Cons: When I arrived to pick up the van, ACE did not want to honor my contract and tried to insist on a "minimum 3-day rental". I was told that I could not use a debit card without renting for atleast 3 days, and that I would be charged an additional fee everyday unless I used a credit card.

Pros: Door to rental agency has green canopy and is between hotel door and Mexican restaurant, Car was ready and clean. No problems with it. Once the paperwork was completed, everything went a lot faster.

Good service bad car
Pros: The associates were kind, and helpful
Cons: My 2003 hyundia accent had more features than this car. I know I signed up for economy, but i didn't realize it would only have one key hole, no electric windows, no power locks. Just wish that was more clear when i paid for the car. Needless to say I won't be renting from Ace again.
Cons: Only needed the car three weeks out of the seven I reserved it for, but they allowed me no refund and charged me for seven days. Car was in poor shape and had high miles for a rental (over 25,000).
