Pros: The property was great, we loved it
Cons: There was a 4 am fire alarm bell and the fire dept was called, we were on the 26th floor, it was very traumatic and stressful as we didn’t know if the building was on fire and if we were going to die; it was very stressful getting down 26 flights. Also the elevators were packed when we were cleared to go back up and I have a fear of elevators. Yes it’s not the hotels fault but by the time we returned to our room it was 5:30 or so and there was no going back to sleep as it was so stressful and the next day we missed a bunch of activities we had planned. I asked the hotel for a discount for that night and was told no. So I paid for a full price stay on the night we were torn out of bed in the middle of the night and this event impacted our stay dramatically. Not happy we didn’t get a discount and or a free nights stay for the horrible inconvenience.

We Every morning, we made our way to the Royal York Hotel, where there are many gluten-free options from which to choose. The staff was eager to provide us with details about their kitchen's g-f dedicated pots, prep. area, etc., which added greatly to our confidence. All of our meals there were delicious & worry-free.

Cons: Windows and the room door WERE NOT SOUNDPROOF. It really annoyed us so much, especially there was some construction near the hotel and we could hear the slightest sound from the windows. (No doubt that the windows need to be soundproof). I could also hear everything outside the room, it's so easy to soundproof the main door. I hope they fix that. I could also hear people walking on the floor above me. (That's a building issue, not complaining about that) but that's everything I encountered. We usually left the hotel at 10 am and came back at 10 pm. We loved everything in the room with the amenities and everything. It was perfect, except the noise part, it was extremely annoying.

Cons: We were downgraded to a king room because the double queen we booked was full the first night and didn’t receive any offer of restitution. We couldn’t move to the queen the next day as we were busy, so that appeared all that the staff were going to offer. Then the last night, a Friday, there was loud music starting at 11 and still going at 4am. We didn’t investigate, but this sounded like the music they played in their lounge. I reported these issues on checkout and all they offered was to waive the valet fees. I don’t think that’s great trade considering we booked two rooms for 3 nights and didn’t get the higher valued room type we had booked. They said the GM would get back to us but no one has and it’s been a week.

Plus, I was upgraded to a one bedroom suite and I didn't even ask to be (Collin was great). Room was spacious and I loved having a kitchen area, so I could grab a few groceries and eat breakfast in my room every morning. Location was perfect - subway close by and near the theatres for TIFF. Walking distance to Union Station. Staff was nice and helpful. View from my suite was fantastic - five windows to look out of. I will miss that view!

Pros: I was 4 hours early for check-in and they got me in a room right away, no waiting until 3pm and no additional charge. Plus, I was upgraded to a one bedroom suite and I didn't even ask to be (Collin was great). Room was spacious and I loved having a kitchen area, so I could grab a few groceries and eat breakfast in my room every morning. Location was perfect - subway close by and near the theatres for TIFF. Walking distance to Union Station. Staff was nice and helpful. View from my suite was fantastic - five windows to look out of. I will miss that view!
Cons: Very minor issues: kitchen area had very little light, a role of paper towels would have been nice and I had to ask housekeeping for dishwashing detergent.

Pros: Loved the room, the friendly staff, the views, the food in the lobby restaurant, the wonderful glassed in waterfall in the lobby with a pond and ducks and an urban beehive project, with tables everywhere to watch the water or work or people watch, and just the general atmosphere. Slept well - the hotel was also quiet - not a lot of door slamming (they don't have those awful automatic door closers that slam doors loudly or loud housekeeping staff in the morning). I moved to the Sheraton mid-vacation from another hotel which had no functioning wifi and a malfunctioning elevator that could be heard screeching audibly from my room, and I'm so glad I did. The Sheraton figured out a room for me on short notice, got me into it before normal check-in and then were able to give me late checkout as well. Saved my trip. A+

Cons: We had a fire alarm in the middle of the night. 10-15 minutes after it ended and we were told to stay in our rooms, the alarm resumed for 2-3 seconds. This freaked out our 8-year-old. We also tried the swimming pool. It was mid-afternoon and there was only one towel available for the three of us.

Also, the bathroom was VERY small as it is an historic property. Although the bathroom had been upgraded I believe it is time for them to remove the old bathtubs and replace with tiled stand up shower facilities. That would be more fitting for the calibre and cost of a property such as this one.

Pros: They could not accommodate my request for early check in. So they upgraded the room. The hotel was very clean. There was an nespresso machine. 2 water bottles Water was available. Slipper and robes provided. The staff were pleasant.
Cons: It was seemed a bit overpriced. Possibly back in the day this hotel was worth more. Now it’s a bit outdated and the area was rough after dark. It wasn’t the worst but the jacuzzi was a little off putting. I felt like the price I paid could have been more luxurious. I have stayed in holiday inns that were nicer.

Could not carry on a conversation with guest without shouting. This was by far the worst experience I have had with the Marriott.

Cons: Rooms are too small. Travelers carrying normal transatlantic baggage (big bags, and carry-on) be prepared to haul it yourself, on limited number of carts provided. Reception staff was not particularly informative, in general. Their interpretation, and explanation, of the check-out rules were given in a Hollywood-esque PRISON WARDEN style, and I quote: "If you exceed one minute the check-out time, we will charge you the full rate for an extra day", even before I asked for my customary Genius privilege late check-out. Cons: Tried given us a lower room then what we booked. But we realized when we got to the room it was wrong. Went to the front desk and the person tried saying it was the right room. After showing her what we booked and telling her how our room had no similarities she still said it was right. A another person came and fixed the mistake and we finally got the proper room. They tried getting us to pay for a deluxe room and stay in a standard but lucky we caught on.
