I booked an SUV through Kayak, my confirmation email from Kayak said SUV. However Payless said my reservation was for an Economy car and they would not provide me with an SUV. Never using Kayak/Payless again.Reviewed 20 Jan 2026

After reading reviews that mentioned unscrupulous business practices, I decided to rent elsewhere despite having prepaid for my rental.Reviewed 10 Jan 2026

The staff were good, no problems. The car I was given was the problem. It is the worst car I have driven in 40 years: noisy, poor visibility, sound system rudimentary. (Mitsubishi vehicle). All my friends and family and even on of their neighbors who walked by laughed and made derogatory comments when they saw me in it. Maybe it was bad luck? Who knows PS I drive a 12 year old VW so I am probably not a spoiled brat.Reviewed 31 Dec 2025

Kayak said it would be a Toyota RAV4 or similar when I made the reservation but when I went to pick up, they didn’t carry any Toyota’s and if I wanted something “similar” it would be considered an upgrade so I had to pay extra just to get what I thought I was already getting. Very frustrating and disappointed! Will never rent from Payless again!!!!Reviewed 29 Dec 2025

The rude worker at the counter made us uncomfortable. He told us multiple things that were untrue in an effort to get us to pay for a more expensive vehicle and to purchase additional options and insurance.Reviewed 1 Dec 2025

Kayak/Expedia issued the car to be picked up in Mexico. Payless kindly helped me rent a car in San Diego but I was charged in excess of what I should have paid.Reviewed 3 Apr 2025
