I was randomly given an EV. I was asked to pay $27 for the convenience of having them charge it on the return rather than me “spending 3-4 hours charging it.” I was renting the car to get from the Orlando airport to Vero Beach and turning it in there, so I agreed to the charge. When I drove out of the parking garage, I saw that it only had 5% battery left. I drove right back to the drop off and asked what to do. I was told to park the car and go to the on site office. There I was told I needed a verification number that I had turned the car in. No apology for my inconvenience. So I walked back to the drop off area (again with my luggage) to find someone to grove me the required number. Got the number and went back to the office (with my luggage). A lovely lady said she would give me the same car, but it would be a hybrid. I asked if I could get a refund on the $27 charge for the electric charging and that I would fill the gas before returning the car. I was told no. She said, however, that since I had already paid the $27, it would only cost me $8 more for the convenience of having Hertz fill up the car when I dropped it off 1-1/2 hours later. I got to my destination without further incident, but 2 hours later than planned.Reviewed 24 Feb 2026

The pickup was very confusing. Of course they tried to sell us some insurance package without making it seem like it was an option which was annoying. But then the girl at the counter told me to head across the street and to level 2 where they would pull up the van. After walking myself, my wife, our four kids, and our 6 suitcases over we waiting for several minutes before I asked a lady at a desk where to go for pick up and she said to walk down to the reserved. So we all lugged our luggage and walked down where we did some more waiting and finally someone from another rental car company came up to us and checked my papers and said we were in the wrong section and to go back to where we were. So we did. Waited and waited over 30 minutes and asking the same lady several times who finally made a radio call and the van showed up 5 minutes later.Reviewed 24 Jan 2026

Need to be better informed on how to pick up car at parking garage. Had to ask assistant in parking garage how the hertz pickup works. Nobody at counter or garage told me to pick any car in certain aisle. Also paid for a bigger car and did not have it in the aisle.Reviewed 30 Jul 2025
