Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "Waited 55 minutes for baggage claim in Auckland. No reason given. I expect better service from Air New Zealand even though I understand the baggage handler’s are different group"
Cons: "Repeatedly delayed, almost missed my next flight"
Pros: "The employees of Air New Zealand always make our trips excellent."
Cons: "I always have trouble hearing the announcements in the waiting areas at the airports. Why can't they (airports) fix that."
Cons: "Please have the option to order Kosher meal!! The 1st air company that I use, that don’t offer this basic service!! Ridiculous!!"
Cons: "Very nice services"
Cons: "After scanning boarding passes at gate, flight crew required us to show them again at the plane door. We had already stowed our phones, as I think others had. Minor issue but caused what seemed like an unnecessary backup at the cabin door. Our other domestic Air New Zealand flight didn't require it."
Cons: "Perfect flight. Delicious meals. Great crew."
Pros: "Checking in, bag drop, and boarding were all super fast and easy. Flight was on time."
Pros: "trivia was fun"
Pros: "Very efficient trip."
Cons: "One flight attendant was subdued and not too bubbly."
Pros: "Very fun and attentive crew. Always food and drinks available. Very comfortable seats and lots of options for movies and activities."
Pros: "The crew were pleasant and professional, and the aircraft was in excellent condition."
Cons: "Boarding through the rear door during the rain -- with an elderly couple ahead who had problems negotiating the stairs, leaving them and all behind them in the rain. The airline could have allowed everyone to board through the airbridge in light of the weather."
Cons: "Upon arrival we were informed that each checked bag was $60. This was news to us. The NZ flight employee informed us that Air NZ informed us quite well of this info, this the booking agent was at fault."

Cons: "Seats are just standard—headrest part doesn’t adjust"

Pros: "Air New Zealand check-in as well as counter personnel were professional and courteous."
Cons: "Booked through Kayak with what I thought was an equivalent Expedia ticket but was horrible surprised when I checked-in. Two other fellow travelers booked flight VA 7516 through Expedia for $218 (USD) one-way. I was able to open the same flight / departure time / price with Expedia but could not book. I then switched to Kayak and located this same flight (as I wanted to travel together with them), and it was for approximately same price. Upon check-in I was told it would cost $120 to check my luggage in (which I reluctantly paid). They indicated my ticket did not include this. I later discussed this with my two travelers and their check-in luggage plus a meal were included with their Expedia (Virgin Australia) ticket. Why was my Kayak (Virgin Australia) ticket so different from Expedia when our bookings were done about the same time? I no longer trust Kayak for future bookings."

Pros: "Nothing in particular--it was a short flight. I did appreciate that the crew went ahead and turned on the entertainment system even though it was a short transit time (we were on a plane meant for trans-Pacific travel--only reason it was available in the first place)."
Cons: "No complaints here."
Pros: "Fantastic crew!"

Pros: "It was a short flight"
Cons: "You had to pay for 3/4ths of the movies and shows. Kayak didn't specify whether I had a checked bag or not so when I got to the airport I had to fork over $120! I had no choice because I'm not going to leave my luggage behind. I was not pleased with this third party booking."

Pros: "On time arrival"

Cons: "Don’t fly jet star. Huge hassle with bags."

Pros: "nothing to complain. everything is good."
Cons: "The delay of 2 1/2 hours created havoc and proved to be very expensive for me. El write a letter on this in a couple of days."
Cons: "I made a mistake on booking. Called them immediately. Not the least bit helpful of sympathetic. Ridiculous baggage policy and charges. Will avoid this airline in the future unless it's an emergency."
Cons: "Having to pay for checked baggage when other people got on with more baggage than me. It’s a scam."
Pros: "Check in was fast and friendly. You MUST buy checked luggage on line before you get to the airport or you will pay. We did this and had no problems at all. Also get there early and be nice. Were told our CPAPs would count as part of our free carry on allowance and were infuriated as this has NEV"
Cons: "Misinformation on CPAP policy."
Cons: "They damaged our luggage"
Pros: "Great price."
Pros: "Didn't realize we had to purchase baggage in advance. Doubled the cost of the flight. The attendant did move us to exit row since we paid so much, but it wasn't clear when purchasing the tickets that you needed to by your baggage in advance"
Pros: "The crew was courteous and nice."
Cons: "We were charged $100 per bag and $50 per Kg over the weight limit. Baggage fees were not clearly listed when booking this flight. We found out about the cost when we were checking in to board. Jetstar should state up front in the flight cost area about their baggage fees, not hidden in the fine print. A side note, everything on the flight cost extra; water, Wi-Fi, etc. Once the added fees are calculated into the cost, Jetstar is not cheaper than the other airlines."
Pros: "Easy boarding in Queenstown and the flight staff was friendly and helpfull."
Cons: "Thier bag fees are outragous. It was extreemly difficult to find thier allowances online and we ended up paying more than our ticket price to check our bags. If it was more clear what the fees are, we would not have chosen Jetstar. I would recomend going with New Zealand Air over Jetstar hands down."
Pros: "Service was awesome0000"
Pros: "Crew very helpful thanks. A bit rough to have to pay 4 baggage in top of paying 4 flight. On international flights, yr baggage is included in the price ."
Cons: "Overcharged for baggage. $535 at the airport. Very surprised at the charge. I thought $50-$60 a bag...more like $135 a bag."
Pros: "I checked in online and wasn't able to add my bags to my reservation, so figured I would do it when I got to the airport. Big mistake. It cost me NZ$ 215 to heck my two bags (one was admittedly heavy, but that is still an insane amount). I knew I would have to pay for bags but more money because of something that I was unable to adress is absurd."
Pros: "The fare was cheap and my body physically was moved from the origin to the destination..."
Cons: "The website and customer service are annoyingly difficult to use, potentially designed to force you to pay more for extras like bags. For instance, if you pay for your bag ahead of time, it is meant to be cheaper. I tried to pay for my bag ahead of time and it took me to a check-in page. I tried multiple times but only ever got to the same check-in page. Figuring that perhaps I needed to check in first, I did this step only to find that if you pay for your bag after check in, it costs more money!! On the return trip, I felt wiser so I refused to fill in the check-in page before paying for baggage. I exhausted every possible link on their website and ultimately had to call customer service. This took an annoyingly long time. I was told when I tried to pay for a 15kg bag that they had run out of space on the plane and I couldn't pay for this; however, I COULD pay for a 20kg bag at a higher price. WHAT? As I was told this was my only option, I took it, but the logic defies reason and makes me conclude that their systems are simply designed to force you to pay for extras. If I had it to do over, I would just book Air New Zealand for an extra $50-- it would save me plenty of time and hassle."
Pros: "We selected this flight with no knowledge of this airline, as we were coming from the states. Being international traveling for three weeks obviously we had some luggage with us. This domestic flight does not allow any free check in, and you are only allowed 7 kg as a carry-on. You also have to pre-pay for your check in baggage before you get to the airport otherwise you are charged three times the price. If you don't know all of this before you go, you will be in big trouble. I do not recommend this airline for international travelers."
Cons: "Fees for everything. By the time you get what you want, you end up paying double advertised price"
Pros: "Check in was quick, but our flight was delayed. We received an email notification which helped. Of course we wish the flight wasn't delayed but having an extra hour in queenstown is amazing."
Cons: "Delayed flight"
Pros: "Easy, efficient"
Cons: "Very expensive"
Pros: "quick boarding options."
Cons: "No snacks or drink options. Also I think paying for luggage is a lot more than it should be, especially if not done ahead of time. Seats are not that comfortable."
Cons: "We were charged $215 at check in to check our luggage because we hadn't "ticked" that we'd be bringing luggage when we purchased our tickets. We purchased our tickets on Kayak and never were we warned or even been informed that this would be the case. The fee for baggage turned out to be $70 per bag plus $15 per Kg for each Kg over 15 Kg. Which is absurd. Any regular flight allows bag up to 23 Kg before additional charges. This is extortion. Yet there was nothing we could do unless we wanted to leave our bags in Queenstown."
Pros: "Initial low fare"
Cons: "Over charge for baggage when checking at airport Actually charge for WATER on flight."
Cons: "Ripped me and my sis off for over 120 bucks in luggage fees!!!! No one could explain ability to pay online for a lot less!!!!! So freaking unacceptable!!!!! Plus they damaged a new bag and tell me they aren't liable!!!! Don't ever buy a ticket with JETSTAR! Freaking waste of money! Stick with air New Zealand"
Pros: "Easy booking"
Cons: "They have a baggage racket where they trick you in to checking your luggage at the airport to charge you $70NZD at the counter not to mention the staff are less than helpful. Also, the seats are so thin you can feel the person behind you breath. I'd give it zero starts if I could."
Cons: "I made a small gift purchase in Queenstown and they were going to charge me $70 to put it under the plane. They could have easily put it in a small box, put it under the plane, and charge me $25 at the most for it. Instead I had to give it to the clerk at the counter because I only paid $20 for the item. I didn't mind having to put it under the plane but for $70?"
Pros: "Efficient. Friendly. On time."
Cons: "Lack of leg room like all airlines"
Cons: "Flight delayed 3+ hours"
Cons: "Got charged 15$ per kilo for our bags even tho we couldn't check in online"
Cons: "Had to pay an unexpected high fee for baggage, extremely low weight limits for carry on luggage."
Pros: "Overall just a standard floght"
Cons: "I paid $70 to check my baggage for a 1.5 hour flight, almost half of the ticket price itself. Absolutely outrageous"
Cons: "So I showed up to find out that my ticket didn't include luggage, ok, no big deal I will pay for the bag, what 75$, no problem. oh wait a minute they wanted 300$ for the bag. the flight was less than 250$, I ended up walking over to Air NZ and got a flight with them. I will never, ever, ever, ever book with these jokers again. This should be illegal, showing up at the airport and then being told the baggage charge is over 100% of the price of the ticket. I could have bought another ticket just for my bag and put it in the seat beside me for less. How does an airline justify this???"
