Pros: Everything except the location
Cons: The neighborhood

Pros: The hotel was well decorated and clean, the security system made me feel safe. All of the staff was warm and welcoming, very intent on making sure you have everything you need. Given the shared bathrooms (sooo clean with luxurious showers) the added touch of robes and slippers added a pampering touch. The continental breakfast was nice and available a good amount of time, though the hotel is located within walking distance of many freak breakfast options.
Cons: Mission Street has a homeless presence and not awesome smells. Hang out around Valencia and problem solved. Do be cautious about walking after dark to the hotel door though.
"Located in Mission District, this bed & breakfast is within 1 mile (2 km) of Haight Street, Mission Dolores Park and Van Ness Avenue. San Francisco City Hall and Orpheum Theater are also within 2 miles (3 km). 24th Street Mission Station is 10 minutes by foot and Right Of Way/21st St Stop is 12 minutes. "

Pros: I liked the friendliness of the staff. They went and beyond to make everything great. Room was a bit cozy, but my daughter and I were fine. Bed was comfortable. Shower nice. Quiet at night.
Cons: I didn't realize there would be so many steps to our room. I counter 62 stairs from street to third floor. It was a bit chalkenging to me. I would just say be forewarned and ask for lower floor.
"Located in Mission District, this bed & breakfast is within 2 miles (3 km) of Mission Dolores Park, Twin Peaks and Castro Street. San Francisco City Hall and Orpheum Theater are also within 3 miles (5 km). 24th Street Mission Station is 6 minutes by foot and Church St & 24th St Stop is 6 minutes. "

"Located in Mission District, this hotel is within a 15-minute walk of Van Ness Avenue and Mission Dolores Park. San Francisco City Hall and Orpheum Theater are also within 1 mile (2 km). 16th Street Mission Station is only a 2-minute walk and Church St & 16th St Stop is 10 minutes. "

Pros: Value, staff
Cons: The neighborhood, no way to adjust the temp in the room
Excellent10.0

Pros: Very friendly staff. Shared Bath facilities are kept very clean. Bed was very comfortable. Rooms are simple but include in-room sink. I have stayed here before and will do so again.
Cons: Carpeting in room felt a bit worn. Not much heat in my room
Okay4.0
Pros: Many interesting restaurants in the area.
Cons: The room was 'clean' but smelled very bad of old, musty and food. I was traveling alone and did not feel safe in the neighborhood at night.
Mediocre2.0
Cons: To start the homeless sleep outside the so called "hotel". Pretty sure I witness a drug deal while walking to the hotel. Also the hotel didn't seem like one. It was more like a big house and the renters might leave there with smaller children. No parking included!!
Pros: U have to realize that any regular hotel in a 1 mile radius of there is gonna be at least $250. This gets u in a very convenient location right across the street from the BART subway. Bathrooms were very clean and up to most anyone's standards
Cons: At the time only one shower was working, easy to hear rooms next door, abundant transients in that neighborhood of SF.
"Located in Mission District, this hotel is within 1 mile (2 km) of Haight Street, Mission Dolores Park and Castro Street. San Francisco City Hall and Orpheum Theater are also within 2 miles (3 km). 16th Street Mission Station is 8 minutes by foot and 24th Street Mission Station is 9 minutes. "

Pros: Location.

Mediocre2.5
Cons: Fridge kept making noise. Nobody would clean your room if u stay more than one night. No free parking.
Okay4.6
Pros: Value for money
Cons: I am ok with shared bathrooms, but I was disgusted by the shared bathrooms that did not have a sink next to the toilet. It is very unhygienic that there are no sinks in the bathroom. This should not be able to pass inspection!
Okay4.0
Pros: Price was affordable, but you can see why.
Cons: The location while convenient to many things is not in a great area. Recommendation: arrive during daylight hours. Make sure your rooms are properly cleaned, our toilet had feces in it! Overall: We won't be returning, but this could work well for some people.
Excellent8.0
Pros: Gate lock from neighborhood.
Cons: Have to pay parking and the shower and toilet are in a commons area.
Excellent8.8
Pros: We were right next to some nice restaurants and bars. The bus line out front took us all over town. Great price. Rooms had everything we needed. Staff was friendly and helpful. For the price, you cant beat it! If you are looking to go to SF on a budget and want to be close to all the main attractions of the city, the El Capitan Hotel is the spot!
Cons: Just small details, but they add character to the building.
Excellent8.5
Pros: I was impressed by the secure entry. My room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. The location was perfect for my activities. Great time i will stay there again if my life brings me back to san fran.
Mediocre2.0
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Paid for parking Bed Bathroom Utilities Dirty Small Uncomfortable No towels No AC Rude staff Ghetto area Expensive because of paid parking $25 for 24 hours and no in-out policy if paying for 12 hour parking. Loud neighbors Ugly
Okay4.2
Pros: The price was great, the location was good for me, and the staff was pretty good about blocking me a room in advance. The rooms were decent and had sinks, nice TVs, dressers, and lots of closet space. The beds were ok but not great.
Cons: The restrooms were disgusting. The kitchen needs cleaning and refurbishing. Some jackass was talking loudly on his cell phone and playing music at 1:30 a.m. I couldn't close my window to tune him out. It was really annoying.
Mediocre2.0
Cons: the worst hotel I ever stayed. No parking, no towel, bad costumer services. And plus as soon as I checked in and go and check out the room. I gave back the key to them and leave. They charged $94 and it's not worth it. To be honest I would like to get refund. Plus bad neighbors
Excellent10.0
Pros: The building is historic. The historic El Capitan Inn over the former grand El Capitan Hote from 1960s, but now a parking lot however the historic hotel portion remains. It is a great deal for the price. Great friendly employees. Friendly housekeeping. Safe area with vibrant hispanic culture. You feel like youre in Mexico, Central, and South America. Very fascinating.
Okay4.2
Pros: It's cheap and there's a bed. That's about the only thing this hotel has going for it.
Cons: The staff is rude, the bathrooms smell worse than the outhouses at Coachella, and the whole hotel is incredibly grimey. I think a more accurate description is a hostel with private rooms.
