Cons: The concierge staff, while very responsive and helpful in advance of the trip, dropped the ball in following thru on all reservations and we missed out on a day trip to the Rosario Islands. The mishap was apparently due to a miscommunication with a former hotel employee. The hotel ended up treating us to a very nice city tour, but we were disappointed to have missed out on the island excursion. This was avoidable (hotel staff confirmed the itinerary just days before the trip); however, things worked out relatively satisfactorily in the end, and the hotel staff was very apologetic.

Cons: the hotel cannot be considered as a luxury 5 stars hotel. It is an good hotel for family too many people but if you are looking for privacy as 5 stars luxury hotels should provide, this in not the hotel. The hotel staff has to be trained more they don't have sense of urgency: they booked two restaurants outside the hotel but we had problems when we arrived in the restaurant the reservation was made by the hotel... Further we encountered the problem that the sink and the shower in our room it was not working properly so after so many complains the staff moved us in another nice room.

I thought it was all snobish and racist. The room was smaller than average I have seen in Colombia.

Pros: My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here. The staff was absolutely wonderful and surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolates. We had a small issue with our bathtub and they fixed it right away and gave us a free 30 minute couples massage for our troubles. We had a corner suite on the 29th floor and the views were incredible. We could watch the sunset every day from our room. The view from the adult infinity pool was beautiful as well. Old town is a short cab ride away. The staff was extremely attentive. Liz at the front desk was very sweet and helpful. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Cons: The hotel had no water. We walked around all day and needed a shower at night, but the water went out. The staff did not communicate the status of the issue to us and seemed to treat the situation more as the norm versus an emergency. They told us we were going to be called when our water came on, it never did. We stayed up until 2:00 am waiting for a call. We felt very disrespected.

Cons: Attention to some details in regards to general organisation of our room was lacking for a 5 star hotel. Eg. They didn't top us up with water bottles after cleaning even though we had been told that we would get complimentary water each day. Not all shampoos etc were replenished. The room keys also stopped working all the time even when we didn't leave them next to out phones.

Facilities such as pool and restaurant weren’t available half the stay because of constant private functions, so worth checking before booking, and stay somewhere else. Rooms far from soundproof, making sleep impossible (again see private functions). Toiletries never restocked over four day period, requests for room service menu took hours to deliver. Just be prepared to make everything happen for yourself or you may be frustrated. As for the chavs, not much you can do to mitigate that risk in Cartagena!

You have all the amenities you could want from a top grade hotel, paired with a friendly/warm staff who make it feel more like a boutique hotel. Pros: We loved our stay at the HCST! Everything was absolutely perfect :-) The hotel itself is beautiful and located in a lively, yet not overwhelming square in the Centro district. The square even has a little bar on the city wall where you can have a drink and watch the sunset. We loved that the hotel had a great restaurant inside the courtyard and a more casual option out in the square. The food at both options were amazing. Also, they had a lovely, guest-only rooftop pool with spectacular views. We opted to eat our breakfasts up there because it was so pretty!! The staff was super attentive, and I suggest taking advantage of their concierge service. We were able to get reservations at some excellent restaurants, and we took advantage of one of their hotel experiences (rum tasting), which was so much fun! Finally, the room was super comfortable and we had booked a room with a balcony, which I recommend. We had a little seating area and a hammock overlooking the inner courtyard. It was nice to sit out there and take a late afternoon break after a full morning of sightseeing. I can't say enough great things about this hotel.

Pros: We loved our stay at the HCST! Everything was absolutely perfect :-) The hotel itself is beautiful and located in a lively, yet not overwhelming square in the Centro district. The square even has a little bar on the city wall where you can have a drink and watch the sunset. We loved that the hotel had a great restaurant inside the courtyard and a more casual option out in the square. The food at both options were amazing. Also, they had a lovely, guest-only rooftop pool with spectacular views. We opted to eat our breakfasts up there because it was so pretty!! The staff was super attentive, and I suggest taking advantage of their concierge service. We were able to get reservations at some excellent restaurants, and we took advantage of one of their hotel experiences (rum tasting), which was so much fun! Finally, the room was super comfortable and we had booked a room with a balcony, which I recommend. We had a little seating area and a hammock overlooking the inner courtyard. It was nice to sit out there and take a late afternoon break after a full morning of sightseeing. I can't say enough great things about this hotel.

Cons: We had breakfast at the hotel every morning and it could have been much better. We also had lunch and it was lacking in quality. Most of the staff is not very competent. It took us an hour to check in and they requested our passport three times. It took us 20 minutes to check out because they incorrectly charged us for mini bar items. If Rey were in charge, I imagine things would run much more smoothly.

The Lobby is poor with mildew and mold odor, I was in the 16 floor, the corridor stinks, there is a permanent smell of burnt frying oil, of fried fish, fried eggs at any given minute of the day. The same bad smell hits you when you go to eat breakfast. If you have allergies or have a bronchial issues you will get sick from this air quality. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone no ever go back there

Cons: They were late on check in and then thought paying for cab was enough. They kept telling us the room wasn’t ready and ended up putting us in a different room that was very loud. They were doing construction and were slamming doors at 7am. They broke a pipe and no water for hours. Usually I would expect either an upgrade or a refund. Just paid 20 pesos for a cab ride to airport. The bathroom was dirty and they didn’t come in to change the towels or empty the trash. Wouldn’t recommend this place for the price.

Cons: There were hairs in the shower when we arrived and bad coffee, which is sad for Colombia; abd the Juan Valdez option that they provide in the room is decaf. Also, the beach that is in front is unbearable, all those street vendors harassing you, especially when you're with someone who looks foreign. We had to pay to go to one of the islands to get some rest and peace. Next time we will aim for a hotel with a private beach.

It is safe to walk to and from the hotel at all hours. We walked home from the walled city after 3am most nights and it was totally safe. Hotel is beautiful and clean. Cons: Whilst staff were largely friendly and helpful, they failed on some occasions to give us their full attention (talking to other staff members, continuing with other tasks without acknowledging us etc). Breakfast was also good quality and the selection varied very day, however it was slow to be replenished once empty. Finally, we only received the turn down service on our final night (1 of 5) which we just found strangely inconsistent?!

Cons: At the time of the check in we were told that something is wrong with our stamp. As you know (or don’t know yet) in Colombia tourists don’t need to pay taxes in the hotel. All stay we were worried a bit about this issue which finally on the check out had resolved into our benefit, but it added some degree of uncertainty and undertreatment to all stay.

The internet worked like a charm/ very good $7000 -$8,000 Colombian peso ride to the walled city / downtown. ( unless u csn get cheaper in your haggling technique) Solid facility if not spectacular with gym which i forgot to use and rooftop pool which i used once and had all to my self for a hour or so. Security in uniform right at front door / front drop off area. I felt real safe and it was a smooth stay. AC was on point and worked well which you will need in smoking and steaming hot Cartagena. Resturants near by fast ones like mcDonalds and sit down dine and unwind tyoes too.

Pros: The location in Boca Grande is good. It is a 10 min ride by cab to the old City, so not bad. The room was very spacious.
Cons: The bathtub/shower was quite basic and not covered with tiles (but with cement), so it did not feel very hygienic. The sound isolation of the rooms is really bad (the door is extremely thin), so you can hear everyone from the corridor as if they were in the room. The staff was ok (polite but not overly polite). Most of them do not speak english. The breakfast was ok (nothing exceptional). The laundry service is too expensive. I don't know if it was overpriced because it was around New Year's eve but the price-to-value ratio was not satisfactory (we were offered much more for lower/similar price elsewhere (at least in Bogotta)).

Managed to barter him down to an acceptable price - wouldn't expect this of a good hotel. Tour's are very poorly organised and no one explains to you what is going on, better places to stay

Everything is super modern and clean. The hotel isn’t far from the walled city. About 5 minutes in taxi. My husband even walked to the hotel from there. I stayed with my husband and one year old. We all loved it. Including the baby. You can see the beach from hallways as well and the staff is very nice and helpful and professional . I would definitely stay again. We stayed 3 nights. Also every time I asked for new towels they cAme right away

Very clean throughout the whole hotel, not just our room. Not a huge bedroom or bathroom but perfectly adequate for a few days stay. We didn't have a balcony but there is a lovely rooftop terrace with a pool. No actual bar there but you are welcome to take drinks /food up there from the small hotel bar on the ground floor. A brilliant place to view the busy square below and the marina & buildings of Bocagrande. Comfy bed and good AC. We didn't chose to have breakfast with the room rate when we initially booked but we saw that there was a decent buffet style breakfast so decided to pay the extra. This set us up for the day. There was an extensive lunch & dinner menu but we didn't actually have a meal there.

Cons: The staff: most of them were not really friendly or helpful at all. They charged my credit card for my room and my friend’s even though I had asked them not toi upon check in! We had both offered to give our credit cards and the guy working at checking turned us down and said we would pay separately upon check out. i had to ask three different people to book a table at a restaurant. They only did it after I insisted. Weird. They were also helpless when I asked them to book a tour for Islas de Rosario. The only efficient staff members were two girls, one working at the restaurant, she was so nice and professional and one working at the reception. She picked up her phone and called.

Pros: I left my credit card in a an ATM and all sorts of problems arose because of it but the hotel staff went above and beyond to help me with what they could. The location is also pretty good and close to everything.
Cons: This hotel desperately needs some renovations. I didn’t feel that it was clean.

Pros: Location is great. Close to all major attractions in Cartagena. Staff members were friendly and helpful.
Cons: Wi-Fi was inaccessible from my room. The hotel is extremely old, including the doors, toilet and mattresses. Breakfast options are very limited and not necessarily appetizing.
