Barcelona hotels near Basílica de la Mercé

Pros: The location is great situated between el Born and the Gothic quarter. The breakfast was also of a high quality and I like that they served breakfast until 10:30 am. The staff were also friendly.

Cons: The climate control in our room (#110) simply did not work. We woke one night at 2 am with our room temperature at 26 degrees and we could not even turn the thermostat off. Secondly, we returned one day in the evening after sightseeing all day to find that our room had not been serviced. It seems the staff had simply forgotten to clean our room.

Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a wide choice of things available to eat from warm bacon and eggs to meat cuts and fruit... Staff very friendly at breakfast and proper nespresso coffee was freely available.

Cons: I wasn't overly impressed by the room. Too small for a man. Feel cramped. I came to this hotel a few years back and got a larger room. The surrounding areas were a bit dodgy late at night. I was witness to theft in the street on two occasions. Police seem to be on to it however and hotel staff were very apologetic.

Pros: The location was excellent,the friendliest of staff especially leaving my husband a little birthday cake and bottle of cava,also being given a welcome drink on arrival was nice.

Cons: What I did not like was that one evening we were unable to have a drink in the lovely comfortable warm friendly bar downstairs,we were told by a very rude and annoying young man called Elbert that the bar was closed and we had to go up to the roof top bar outside,it was a cold night and said we would like to sit downstairs in the warmth,but he was very rude and again said no we could not have a drink. We went to another hotel near by,called the Grand Central ( I think that's the name ) . It was a nice warm welcoming bar,but wish we could have stayed in The Mercado. We have stayed many many times in various H10 hotels ,this one rude young man will not put us of from visiting again,the other staff were so nice and friendly,especially the receptionist called Claudia,who was always smiling and asking how we were,the other ladies on reception were also extremely helpful and greeted up each time we passed,this young man could spoil it for the Mercado as it's a wonderful hotel,so I hope he is a lot more respectful to his guests in the future,we are two retired seniors who just wanted to relax in our hotel not sent outside into the cold.

Pros: My fiancée and I stayed there for 2 nights. Everything is walking distance except the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell (short taxi drive). The rooms were exactly as described / pictured and the staff was very professional and helpful.

Cons: Not worth the money you pay! First of all it’s a noisy hotel, you can hear a lot of noises inside and from the outside, even during the night which makes the sleep uncomfortable. Rooms can be smelly too. No one speaks English except guys in the reception, so communicating with a restaurant staff is impossible, even restaurant manager can’t communicate in other languages! If you are thinking to pay for a breakfast than please don’t. There is nothing tasty to eat which you would expect from a Mediterranean hotel! Spare your money and treat yourself outside in other place which you will find plenty. Literately we don’t understand how it’s possible to have such high review when there are so many things to improve especially for this price!

Pros: Fabulous location in the Gothic area near the Cathedral and next to Jaume I Metro Station. Amazing pastry store on ground floor with excellent sandwiches for day trips etc. Friendly staff and our room was totally updated. Free WiFi.

Cons: The bathroom is tiny but functional. The lightbulb in one reading light was missing and not replaced during the entire week. Surface / glass of nightstand, telephone receiver and light switches need to be cleaned with more love. Safe doesn't fit laptop.

Pros: Newly refurbished hotel, nice décor and modern. Lobby was nice and the room for the family was spacious. The staff was friendly. Tea and coffee vending machine and snacks available at the machine. Good location, 3 min to Jaume 1 metro station and 10 minute to La Rambla for eating and shopping. Very close to cathedral.

Cons: I visited in the last week of October and apparently it is winter there but very hot for UK citizens. Unfortunately the Air conditioning was switched off and it was very uncomfortable at night specially when you come back to your room. It was very humid and stuffy. No provision of fan either. No tea or coffee facility in room.

Pros: FABULOUS location! 3 blocks to Ramblas, 2 minutes from metro stop and Cathedral. Good breakfast buffet! Shower was spacious with great water pressure. Balcony doors were effective in blocking street noise.

Cons: Receptionist was very arrogant. We mentioned one of the rooms was very smelly and we really did it in a polite way. We were ignored and during the entire 3 days we had to live with this very bad smell.

Cons: I got the feeling that because we booked thru a third party travel site we were given the worst room. Our room faced inward very little light, no view of anything. We were there 5 nights and asked to be moved but they would not give us an outside room.

Pros: Location was perfect, gotic quarter started just across the street. Hop-on hop-off bus stop very close. Park of Ciutadella also very close. Room was clean, breakfast choice normal.

Pros: The Hotel Ciutadella is a very quaint boutique hotel. It is only 4 stories, with a small number of rooms. The rooms are good sized, and decorated nicely. Several other reviews mention a foul odor emitting from the bathroom drains. I could detect this odor too, but at least it wasn't overpowering, at least not in my room. I was fortunate to request and receive an upper floor room (4th), so I would just leave the exterior bathroom door open, and close the interior bathroom door; this seemed to solve the odor problem. FYI, there are 2 small balconies in each room (one bathroom and one main room), both equipped with French double doors. Everything in the tourist area of Barcelona is within a 1-20 minute walk. The metro is located just a couple minutes away. The staff was outstanding, very courteous and helpful. I would definitely return to this hotel, should I ever return to Barcelona.

Pros: Very good location, everything was in walking distance including beach, la Rambla and Born neighborhood where you can find nice small restaurant and shops. Also hop on-hop off stations is just minute away. I would only like if there was cafe bar in the hotel, but there is coffee machine :)

Pros: The hotel was in great location, nearby all the attractions of Barcelona! The view from the balcony was very good. Clean and very good conditions. The staf was very friendly. We had such and amazing time there.
