Pros: Really nice feel in hotel, great interiors and brilliant music system integrated into room. Breakfast really good and could not fault staff at all, when we arrived they told us the best places to go and upgraded us free to a balcony room as it was our 1st time in Barcelona. On my wife’s birthday they saw the card and left a note and some cake in our room, which was lovely.

Cons: The decor was a bit weird. The bathtub/shower sill was far too high and was dangerous (we were traveling with an architect and we are convinced that this height does not meet code). In addition, the gym was very poor. They only had a few machines and 2 of them were broken.

Drinks are expensive even for a hotel (both in the lobby and the minibar); even a bottle of water is 3 euros when many comparable hotels would provide one for free. Pros: The staff was great, the hotel itself awesome. I just will not recommend it because of the area it is in. We got off the bus and the other tourist were gasping at the area. It was a little embarrassing getting off at this hotel. The staff did warm us to keep our eyes open which was great.
Cons: The location with the sketchy people around. We were told that people were getting robbed the morning we were leaving. We were very nervous that that would happen to us, It was awful. My husband and I never experienced the negative comments mentioned about the people in the area.

Cons: When I did the reservation, 1 month in advance,, they took my money straight away (by mistake) and it took me 2 days to speak with them. When I finally talk with them by phone, they told me this was a mistake and the returned my money, but 1) I paid in Sterling, not Euros, so there was £3 that were lost 2) they knew the did a mistake (apparently a new employee), but they didn't communicate with me. I sent 3 emails that are not answered yet. When I did the check-in, I was with my partner and I originally did the booking for 1 person. I asked in reception if this was an issue or if I had to pay anything extra. They told me no. The day I left, I receive an email saying I need to pay the tourist fee + 2 more breakfast. Again, communication issues. I don't mind to pay, but I asked if an extra person was incurring extra cost, and they told me NO. On the other side, booking.com has behaved pretty bad also. When I told them that Axel hotel took my money and they were not answering to my mails, they told me to speak with the hotel directly. I have been using booking for more than 10 years, I have more than 160 reservations, and this is the first time I have an issue, but I can see that customers means nothing for booking.com, so this is my last reservation.

There were many straight couples, guess they did not know they arrived in a gay hotel. looks like too many straights for the gay community, to many gays for the straight guests. I am gay but this time the mix was not good. Check in lasted forever, they write you a guest pass by hand, it takes forever... worst check in in my life. Hotel was not able to provide service to print out my online boarding pass.. what a shame. I did not feel anything of the original gay concept, I felt they just sold out the hotel to anybody just to make money ( whats ok), but this was not my axel hotel from some years ago. It was just a very busy hotel and not sure if the value for the hotel was very good this time. Just my opinion.

Cons: Since we booked 2 nights stay, I can't find any drawers to put my personal stuff, therefore I need to take out things from my luggage and put it back in again, and because our luggage is big, moving up and down from the table sure caused some headache for us. Pros: Location was #1 for this hotel is right by the Sants train station which had a train straight into the airport, and just a two minute walk to the metro station which is a quick ride to the heart of town and port if your're going on a cruise.
The employees were helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and simple but had everything you could need during a hotel stay. We stayed 2 different nights and the balcony views of the city was excellent.
The roof top bar serves an amazing sangria amongst other things but that was our favorite. The breakfast buffet was perfect and the coffee was beyond anything I could expect. We would stay here again!
