I need to come back another time. I went to another gate agent and she told be to go downstairs to the check in counter for help. That would have taken 2 hours. I called customer service and they answered my question quickly. I just wanted to know if I would be charged a fee to change my flight."

These are not obvious . There needs to be a staff member or two checking people as they arrive in a line to check they're in the correct t line . Otherwise people don't trailer until they have been in the wrong line until the reach the top of the line . Leads to frustration even before the flight begins! Otherwise great job everyone ! My flight from Sydney to LA the headphones and the jack didn’t work. I informed the crew member it was an over 15 hour flight with no sound in entertainment. I asked if they had kosher or halal options in one of the flights to Brisbane, the crew member wasn’t pleasant in the reply. I took the vegetarian option that’s fine but surely the crew member can say no in a more pleasant way. Although I had a great time in Australia. Thank you

Cons: "Flight was initally delayed 1 1/2 hours to depart at 1:00am it happens. Upon boarding, I noticed the planes legroom was close to none. Within 10 minutes of being on the plane the power shut off, lights out, air flow cut off. Lights turn back on although air doesn't and the captain re assures 10-15 minutes. 2 1/2 hours yes 2 1/2 hours later he says 10-15 minutes again and says the same skit explaining they fixed the problem. Plane turned off again. At this time it was close to 5am and I chose to take my carry on and head towards the front of the plane. The captain has no answers for the alarmed passengers, in which all they could say is if we step off tge plane we choose to leave the flight. Almost in the tone of a threat. We were all fewring our safety for the 9 hour trek over the pacifac ocean. After going back and forth for about 45 mins they finally said if you dont feel comfortable follow me and we will try and locate later flights for you all. 60 of us left the plane and ultimately got flights 12-24 hours later. Horrible experience, horrible communication, no appologies, and on top of that they did not send my bag with the correcr plane, in which I had recieved it 4 days later. My replacement flight wqs on EVA air. Much better airline in which I will never travel with China Airlines ever again."

From friction burns on the knees from the seat directly in front of you, to virtually hosting your front neighbor's head in your lap when they recline. And I'm all of 5'8"! Even though easily +90% of the passengers were Americans, Australians, New Zealanders and Europeans, and that the flight was between 2 English speaking countries, we were addressed in Mandarin Chinese. Reminds me a bit of Air Canada with their often French bias."

Airbus entertainment system worked, meals were hot, tea and beer flowed freely, seats were packed but not as tightly, restrooms stayed clean. Cons: "Things I disliked: Boarding. I got my seat assignment weeks early, back of the plane and aisle, Boarding Zone 1. Check! Once at the gate, specialty groups boarded first (small children, first class). As the were boarding (LAX), the throngs lined up willy-nilly. The gate agents did not call for boarding by zones, all the passengers boarded together (mixed zones). This is a recipe for disaster. I was one of the last persons to board, and by the time I got to my seat (back of the plane), all the overhead bins were full (folks in the middle of the plane could not find overhead room, so they marched to the back and took my space). Had I boarded by zone (#1), I would have gotten to the back early. F/A's struggled greatly to get everyone's carryon stowed overhead, but a number of us had our carryons stowed many rows away from our seats. Also, the bins were so full, that they were dangerously heavy, and even the F/A's had to have help in closing them. Great! We were discouraged from opening the overheads in flight (near-constant turbulence). Great! Can't get at my stuff during the long night flight (its in a bin way in front of me, and we can't open the bins). Entertainment unit on the seatback. The system is fine, but its touch-screen, and my 'touch' screen was not accepting my inputs very well (had to touch them half a dozen times each). There is no remote control (handheld). Never watched anything, as we never were given headphones. Use your own headphone, you say? Where does that bad boy plug in, I say? That kind of thing should be explained in the pre-flight video, possibly. Blissfully I slept thru a good chunk of the flight."

I know flight catering is a tricky business, but mayonnaise can be put on the side, instead of directly on the sandwich. No full beverage service. If this is the ROC's flagship airline, I'd hate to see what their budget airlines are like."

They were stuck in Santiago for 4 days with no help from Latam. Their bags were lost by the airline. NOBODY behind the counters took responsibility to help get them home!! Their passports, credit cards and money were all stolen during this 4 day period."

Second day at airport i found out they booked me on a three leg flight home at 8 AM althought i was on the phone with them at 1:30 AM and I was never informed about the flight they offered at 8 AM. Cons: "I was unable to choose my seats on line in advance, which created a stressful situation when at check-in we found that my wife and I were not seated together. Fortunately for the first leg of the trip (Santiago-Lima) there was an empty seat by her and I took it; and for the second leg (Lima-Los Angeles) the passenger next to her was upgraded on the last minute and left his seat for me. Latam has great service, but must let customers choose their seats or guarantee assigning adjacent seats to passengers traveling together, The process for servicing of the plane during the stop-over in Lima could be improved. I know it is hard to do minor cleaning, tidy-up, and replacement of pillows & blankets while many passengers remain on board, but at least there should be an announcement describing what the passengers are to expect during the stop-over."

Their 777-300ER from SFO to CAN is very comfortable in economy. The seats and headrest a very supportive and yet have a soft touch. 14 hours and 35 minutes and I wasn't numb. They provide complimentary beer and wine throughout the flight. Their price often cannot be beaten."

The crew tried to fix it and couldn't but gave me one of the crew seats in the back of business class. Not great to be separated from my husband for most of the flight, but I could sleep and was otherwise comfortable. Returning Guangzhou to SF, had the same seat. Checked it as soon as I boarded and it didn't work, again! This time they got ground crew to fix it before take off. It worked most of the flight, but once I put it up after laying flat for 8 hours, it stopped working. Would not move from a straight upright position. Ridiculous! SO check to make sure your seats work before you take off!!"

Could not handle crosswinds landing at JFK, so it was a rather hairy landing, weaving down the runway."

So basically CAN is their hub and they should have certain privileges at CAN. But every time I went to CAN to take a China Southern airline I had to take a shuttle to board the flight. Even for a huge flight like 787 you still have to take the shuttle to board. Can't they request a gate for big air crafts like this? And then the food is really bad. If you don't have to land in CAN, I would consider flying to HKG instead with Cathay Pacific."

Cons: "At the end of our trip, 3 weeks later, we arrived in HAN to make our 3:45PM flight - constantly checking the status to make sure the flight would not be late again. The flight ended up getting delayed 30 minutes, then another 30, then an hour, and longer until the flight was delayed 5 hours total. China Southern employees at HAN wouldn’t move us to new flights and tried to tell us that we would make our layover in CAN despite this flight landing at 11:15 and our flight from CAN leaving at 10:05. We checked online and found there were no flights out of CAN to SFO until 24 hours later, yet there was a routing directly out of HAN. We told the employees it would be useless for them to fly us to CAN because we would be stuck there. They ignored us and told us it was fine and to fly to China. When we tried to explain, the employee simply walked away. We landed in CAN and were met with employees who first told us at 12:30pm flight to LAX the next day was booked full and they wanted us to wait 24 hours. When I told them that wasn’t true, they recanted and said “oh we can get you on the flight.” I asked for compensation since this was the second layover that was missed because of airline failure and a manager at the Transfer Desk told us he could not upgrade us to premium seating because all the seating was sold out. When we finally sat on the 12:30PM flight to LAX we found that not only did Economy have open seats, but so did premium seating. We were lied to by the manager at the Transfer Desk in CAN and when we explained the situation to flight attendants that we wanted one of the open seats they told us no. In addition, during our overnight stay in CAN due to China Southern employees at HAN not switching our routing, we were put in a hotel that smelled of smoke and had water stains in the room. We were woken up early to catch a shuttle back to the airport and when we arrived at the airport to ask for food vouchers to eat breakfast since our layover was longer than 12 hours, we were also told no. Overall I am completely dissatisfied with both flights on China Southern. I was lied to, cheated, and held up over 24 hours in China due to airline mistake and their unwillingness to book us new tickets. I spent hours at airports talking to airline employees and because of these hours spent we should be reimbursed for our flight."
