Pros: Excellent service by very professional staff who were extremely helpful with all our needs. We had special religious needs on Saturday and the staff was very cooperative. The atmosphere was very special in this boutique hotel in Cannareggio area of Venice on the canal. Absolutely peaceful and serene atmosphere that made us forget all everyday concerns. We highly recommend staying here and we will definitely stay here again this summer when we return to visit Venice.

Pros: My husband and I recently stayed at the Ai More d'Oriente for 4 days and 3 nights in December 2014 and loved it. Here's what we loved:
LOCATION - The location was perfect... close, easy access to the vaperatto's (Venice's water taxis) as well as a short walk to the city center.
STAFF - The staff was super helpful, friendly and accommodating.
AMENITIES - Free wi-fi and breakfast.
ROOMS - Comfortable, clean, nicely decorated rooms. The rooms are small but 1. that's to be expected in Europe and 2. We didn't come to Italy to stay in the room so the size wasn't an issue for us.
Overall we felt we got an excellent value for what we paid. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Pros: The location of the hotel is great - it’s very close to the busy streets and restaurants yet two lovely bridges and small passageways away to be calm and peaceful enough. It’s also very easy to get to from the airport (about 25 mins) by taking the water transport. The room is spacious, clean, with attention to detail, and the bed is very comfortable. We even had a small balcony. The breakfast offers a good variety.

Pros: The hotel was spotless clean, very comfortable room, staff were very engaging, and the breakfast buffet items were good quality. At breakfast the hotel gave a small birthday gift (we guess they knew from the passport at check in). The hotel is in a quiet area with several nice restaurants/cafe within just a 3-5 minute walk, and only a 15 minute walk to the train station.

Also the staff were incredibly thoughtful and helpful, they arrange free tours to Murano and help you with ANY request you may have. We had to check out at 6am and they even packed us a “to go” breakfast.

Cons: Unfortunately the air conditioning only seemed to allow for the room to be freezing, another setting didn’t seem to be working. The breakfast can be eaten outside in a small area which however will be interrupted by some cheeky pigeons. We wondered if a better fence might help to keep them away so breakfast could be more enjoyable outside. The staff was helpful and friendly but we sometimes missed the service-with-a-smile or just a little bit of chitchat.

Cons: Really noisy rooms- ask to not be on floor 1. Staff told a fib and said no other rooms available to move us, until I showed on booking.com that other rooms were available. Cons: We booked the private boat function for the night of the Redeemer and watched the most amazing firework display. However we should have been collected afterwards at 12.30 am to return to the hotel. We weren't picked up till nearly 3.00am as there were no water taxis available!!! This was clearly unacceptable and we eventually had to travel back in an overcrowded boat!! Not to be repeated !!!

They told me that they could not do this for me, but not to worry as the trains don't sell out anyway. Unfortunately when we showed up at the train station, the train to Florence we needed was sold out ruining our plans for the afternoon. The staff was very nice and even let us leave our bags behind after checking out so we could do some sightseeing without having to carrying our luggage around all the time.

Cons: When we first arrived in the beautiful room We couldn’t get the beside light to work. When I shifted the bedside table table a little the badly designed light fell over and smashed immediately. I was then told I would have to pay €120 for the light or the police would be called. I was willing to pay something for the light but felt that it was unreasonable to be asked to pay €120 for a light that 1. Didn’t work in the first place. And 2. The base broke in the process of me trying to fix it. I paid the full amount on checking out as any further delay could have caused us to miss our flight.

Pros: My mum and I enjoyed our staying at the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was well-equipped. The choice of food at breakfast time was rather good. The vaporetto station is close to the hotel. The city centre is 15 minutes of a pleasant walk from the hotel.

Pros: The hotel is gorgeous and the location was just right with a fair walking distance to popular spots. The breakfast is good and staff are exceptional. The hotel sits right along the canal and it is a shame that we did not get a room with a view of the canal as it would have been an amazing view.
Cons: Though the cleanliness of the room was good, the only issue I had was that there was a lot of dust around the aircon unit and when we used my partners hairdryer, dust would blow everywhere. Other than that, no issues.

Pros: Perfect location for me, a bit away from the busy centre but an easy walk to all attractions. I bought a 3-day vaporetto card that I ended up not using much, since walking was faster! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and I was absolutely ecstatic when they gave me a room upgrade to a double room with a view over the Grand Canal, made my birthday trip so much more special! The hotel has beautiful Venetian decor, and a good breakfast in a lovely pastel coloured room - there are also two tables outside on the balcony overlooking the canal if you're early enough. :) The entrance patio and outside sitting area at the canal with bar facilities were both lovely! There's also a mini bar and coffee making facilities in the room. I'll definitely stay there again and recommend to my friends!

Cons: Room, bathroom, towels, bedsheets, lighting. I found floors to not be clean, the bathroom very outdated, small and basic. I do not believe that anything that is NOT a five-star hotel in such a crowded city as Venice ought to be this basic. Add to that almost no sound isolation and a sense that bed sheets and towels could actually be cleaner, and I would not recommend this stay before the hotel seriously considers revamping its game.

Mario was extremely informative and even gave us a detailed map with 3 recommended restaurants for dinner, where to go, and where to walk to for great views, etc. the rooms were very clean, pretty, and while we chose to share a bathroom, I probably would not do that again and pay the extra to have our own.

Pros: This place has a great location and vintage style. The bathroom was very clean and modern. The value is ok since it is right next to Rialto. Staff were efficient and fairly friendly.
Cons: It is very old and so many things need updating. My air con kept banging loudly at intervals. I complained 3 times (once at 2am) and no real help or solution was offered. Eventually I was forced to sleep in on the bathroom floor out of desperation and was offered no money off for this! Although staff were friendly, they didn’t bother to solve my problem only passed it on to each other. Locks and get stuck. Doors don’t open/close. No lift. Don’t bother with the breakfast...

Pros: This hotel was a welcome oasis of calm - an air conditioned retreat where we could escape the baking August temperatures and the tourist hustle and bustle outside with relief! We arrived from the airport by water taxi and expected to have to drag our suitcases from a designated drop off point somewhere else but to our delight the taxi dropped us off right outside the hotel, on Hotel Principe's own 'jetty'. Breakfast was wonderful, with plenty of choice. The staff were always friendly and attentive to our needs. A particular mention and thanks go to Erica, our concierge, who was very helpful in suggesting, and booking, some interesting 'must sees'. We didn't get to eat in the hotel's restaurant this time, but we enjoyed an evening cocktail on a couple of evenings as we watched the sun go down - I was delighted to see my favourite, a Moscow Mule, on the menu and it was perfect...even served in an authentic copper mug.

Cons: Our room was perfectly comfortable and quiet but it was a little 'grubby' with stains on the carpet and walls here and there. The bathroom was quite small - particularly the shower cubicle which was tiny. I'm only 5ft and reasonably slim but even I had trouble moving around in it. Location-wise, this hotel is a long walk from all the main attractions in Venice such as the Rialto Bridge and St Marks etc but that suited us and we got to see a lot of the city on foot and on gondolas etc. The Jewish Quarter is pretty close to the Principe but we didn't have time to properly experience it. Next time!

Cons: The flooring in the ground floor near the lifts had several broken tiles which should be repaired as soon as possible. The concierge to show us to our rooms was not necessary as we did not have many bags and were able to take them on our own. It seemed that he was just there to be tipped as he just opened the rooms and once we were in, he started indicating us to give him a tip.

Cons: There seems to be a disconnect between booking.com and the hotel. First we were publicly embarrassed at breakfast when the waiter insisted that breakfast wasn’t included in our booking, I had to leave the table and my wife to prove to the manager it was ( always keep your booking confirmation email) then upon checkout they demanded that I pay for our stay but I had already paid ( except for a drink at the bar ) back in April ( credit card statement confirms this), Still awaiting for the hotel to accept this, even my credit card supplier can see that it has already been paid. We had to leave for a flight so had no choice but to pay again. Most disappointed. I will now take a copy of my credit card statement with me in future or not use any of the booking . Com related sites. Too stressful.

The hotel looked old but renovated, however it looked like there used to be two hotels. We had to use card to get from our building to the reception area. Moreover, the room had a window to the back , so not much light would come through. I am a light sleeper and there was also a constant background beeping sound all day long. Couldn’t figure out if it came from heating or some other machine.

I wasn't expecting a massive room in the middle of Venice, but we had stayed in another hotel nearby that was bigger and half the price, though lacked facilities. With the lack of space, our two suitcases were a little in the way. The shower had a fixed head and a hand-held shower, but the fixed head didn't work. There was also nowhere to put bottles. Breakfast was OK with a fair range. The coffee from the machine was awful. For the price paid, things like omelette cooked to order or even tomato juice shouldn't be charged extra.

What we didnt realise is that we would be kept awake all night with the sounds of boats going up and down the canal the entire night. Obviously out of the hotels control. Next time we will avoid the canal view rooms unless we want to remain awake. We tried ear plugs to no avail. The room itself in terms of the view was wonderful. In the morning white material which looked like glue or paint started emerging from the bathroom floor and the tiles were moving.

Cons: Some of the Staff was unfriendly in the restaurant during breakfast time especially the older lady with the grey hair who I think was in charge of the Staff and another member of staff who would of been in her 40s I was positioned in a seat beside the kitchen and over heard one of the Staff ( the one in her 40s) putting on an English accent acting one of the English guests who had asked for a strawberry yogurt and the rest of the kitchen staff laughing which I found extremely rude and she was old enough to know better .There was 2 tall thinner waitresses serving and they were very pleasant and helpful so they weren't all rude .

Cons: Our room was ready when we arrived but was so small that the bathroom door couldn’t be closed because of the bed. I asked for another room which they changed without hesitation so I guess they try to get rid of those rooms if they can. Our new room was totally fine for my son and I. The only thing I could fault was the carpet on the stairs was filthy. Otherwise we loved the property and would definitely recommend it for small families.

There were a table and 2 chairs. I had to step on the bathtub and climb out the window.

Cons: The shared bathroom was on the upper floor. The bathroom was very small and it was uncomfortable to use a shower. The water was everywhere even outside the bathroom( the door is very bad). The street is not crowded as for another part on the city, but at night you could hear the people walking and speaking.

So the 4 of us had to get our luggage to the 3rd floor on some very narrow stairs. We get to our room only to find out that our quadruple room was actually a twin room with two extra beds. No wardrobe or clothes rack, one of the beds was blocking the fridge and the sink. We got a different room the next day, but, by that time, 2 of us booked another hotel.

Cons: I booked the double room with my own bathroom, which also was showed in my paper from the booking.com. However, the staff of the hotel gave me a very small room (no .402) without the bathroom. My wife and I had to share the publc bathroom with other residents. No.402 is not worth 75 Euros. I argued this poor service with the staff, but he was rude and told me there was nothing he can do. Although the staff gave me the discount, the hotel and staff's service destroy my mood to enjoy the Venice. The remoter of the TV in this hotel even chaege the 10 Euros deposit. I forgot to take the money back when I checked out. Thus, I do not recommend this hotel and score 0.

Only one guy to help with the luggage and of course can carry only one bag so all the other heavy luggage we carried ourselves up a couple of floors and flights of stairs. Our knees were shaking after reaching our floor with heavy bags. Very tiny bath but we managed. Wi-fi very weak from the room so had to consume our own data. Needs improvement on soundproofing, can hear all noises from outside the door especially the cleaners in the morning. Not really major inconveniences so might consider to go back here when in Venice. Still over-all a nice hotel.

Cons: No one was at reception when we got there. We walked around to a different hotel that then led is back to our room. There was no wifi in the room and the wifi in the common space didn't work on our 4 days in Venice. I went to the other hotel (where we had checked in) and asked if I could use their wifi. The man at the front desk said no. The costumer service was awkward and disjointed. The place was not really clean. Pros: When we booked here we thought it was a great location, great for the station, and it all seemed great!, the beds were comfortable and the room was clean, lovely little bathroom and nice shower. We stayed two nights.
Cons: Firstly the Free WiFi was about as much use and a paper gondola! If even could connect to it, we couldn’t use it so while we were in the room, we were disconnected! Secondly the lady failed to inform us that we had to ask for the TV remote at check in as it was not included with our check in. It wouldn’t of mattered anyway because there are 200 channels of Italian. Thirdly, the AC was lovely and cool, so cool I fact that I woke up freezing in the middle of the night and had to go search for the switch which actually turned out to be an unmarked rotating dimmer type switch on the wall! Turning it clockwise sort of switched off the AC but it was crackling and didn’t sound safe. And Finally on our check out date, around 9, there were some work men drilling in the walls next to our room, I have the video if anyone is interested! Rude awakening thanks!

Pros: Location near train station was excellent. AC worked well - very hot outside when we were there. Host was very accommodating. Shower was great. Better than we expected for what we paid. We will come back.
Cons: Room and bathroom very small - not a problem for us but no room to share with anyone else. TV was tiny and had to pay 65,00 deposit for remote (FYI). No view from our room. If you're visiting from US note that Italian hotels - including this one - rarely offer washcloths - bring your own. Room was sparsely furnished, but was fine for an overnight stay.

Cons: The breakfast room was not big enough for the amount of people staying and one morning we had to wait outside the room until tables became available. One day our room was not made up and had to ask for fresh towels. The reception failed to help me with my transfer back to the airport. My transport provider had faxed over details for meeting point and the hotel couldn't find them, leaving me to call the provider and re-arrange. Not very friendly staff on reception.

Cons: It’s an old building, which is to be expected and it adds to the charm. Don’t go there expecting modern facilities. We did find it a little troubling that when we came back to get our room key and a new clerk was at the desk, he didn’t even ask to verify our names or identities before giving us the key. I’m hoping they have a copy of the passports on file and take a look at the beginning of each shift, but at the very least it seemed odd that we could just say a room number and get the key. Besides that we had a pretty good one-night stay!
