Cons: "Asked specifically at the ticketing counter not to be seated in a non-emergency row. Were seated in an emergency row. For a 12 hour flight with seats that don't recline and nothing the on-board staff could do about the ticket counter's negligence and bad faith other than apologize. Seated upright for an overnight flight (for the second time on the same trip) for 12 hours. Not a pleasant experience. Had a feeling ANA would be bush league. This trip confirmed those suspicions. It wasn't the crew's fault (though they, unfortunately bore the brunt of my displeasure) so much as the counter's fault, but airlines charging what they are shouldn't be putting passengers or crew in this position. The ticket counter folks literally mislead us. They specifically told us that these were not emergency row seats and that we would have reclining seats and seatback displays in front of us like everyone else. The entire reason I asked is because we got stuck in the last row on the way in with seats that don't recline, which blows for a 12 hour red-eye flight. Instead we got seats that did not recline and a fold out screen that came from the right-hand arm rest. Not the end of the world if one had no choice, but certainly not what I paid for and certainly not what the ticketing counter people stated we were getting (under specific inquiry about the very point). The ticketing counter in particular seems to be skeevy, at best. To the detriment of their own crew, who is left apologizing for things they can do nothing about. As stated, this is a bush league international carrier. Avoid unless you love sleepless nights crossing the international dateline..."

I really appreciated the check in service at Heathrow airport - amazing they checked our luggage and gave our passes through to Chch NZ. Chairs were comfortable. Good leg room. While we appreciate the lounge, they could have offered a wider range of options (a few more vegan options).

This is not enough time, doesn’t allow for customs and immigration. It was a really stressful experience running between terminals with my luggage, as there was less than a 1 hour window after getting through customs and immigration, so the bag drop at international wouldn’t accept them. Got to departure gate 12 minutes before plane departure. You need more time to have a good experience !"

We phoned the booing site, we phoned Virgin, we were put on hold for 25 mins while the booking site phoned Virgin - but Virgin refused to help us out! My husband was not able to board the flight - no refund, no help - and the sad part was, it wasn't for a holiday - it was to visit and help his 87yr old father-in-law who had fallen and cracked his spine. No sympathy from Virgin, VERY DISAPPOINTED!"

The Check In process at Hyderabad airport is “REALLY BAD AND SLOW”. I joined the line and get my turn to check in after 1 hour 40minutes. This makes several passengers nervous about their flight to board.

Cons: "The plane had small drop down screens every 4 or 5 rows which are totally inadequate for watching anything. gives no choice and poor sound quality (lag between vision and sound) Pork meal was some sort of tasteless slop in a cardboard box with rice and a green veg. It seem as if short flights are getting a raw deal with old planes and sub standard food, systems to save costs. If they cannot maintain a consistent level of standard across all their products let another provider in who can."
Pros: "Punctual flight, friendly and helpful crew."
Cons: "The iPads for the entertainment system were cumbersome. Initially they didn't work for the whole cabin and the FAs had to reboot the system. They were also finnicky to operate. Also, needing to stow them for take-off and landing was a bit cumbersome. It would be much better to use the traditional fixed screens."

And I saw someone in San Francisco at the ticket counter get a visa and yet I was told I wouldn’t be flying that night as I had forgotten to get a visa. No help at all !! I know I wasn’t the only person that ever got a visa. I was told to call my consulate. Clearly there was a simple way to get a visa and I was so freaked out until I figured it out myself. Made it so unpleasant."

The economy seats were significantly smaller than our flight from Melbourne and the premium economy and business were not as nice either. Really. It comfortable. Cons: "I checked the flight prior to going to Auckland airport and all showed on time, by the time we cleared immigration and were in the airport we were notified of a six hour delay due to mechanical issues. I realize these things happen, but earlier notification would have prevented an 8 hour stay in the airport. The seats are pretty close together for a 3.5 hour flight. After hearing a lot of positive comments about Qantas, this was not a great first impression"

Cons: "What I don't like is what is true of all airlines now and that is that if you are born with long legs you are penalized and expected to pay more money than people with short legs - that is prejudice and not fair to people that cannot do anything about it. I understand charging obese people extra because they have a chance to change it. Also, seats are too narrow now!!!"
Pros: "The service on flight was excellent. Attendants were very helpful and professional. I was pleasantly surprised with the food, especially for an international flight. They were also very helpful with seating when it came to putting me and my partner next to each other and in seats with extra legroom (we did pay for it so I guess it was expected)"
Cons: "Customer service over the phone was HORRIBLE! I waited almost 2 hours on the phone and got NOTHING accomplished! Purchased my seats online, then got a notification saying it didn't go through. Called to fix the issue, but the man on the phone put me on hold for almost an hour! Only to accidentally put my partner and I in different rows. When I complained at the lack of professionalism from him over the phone, he offered some sort of compensation. When I agreed, he transferred me to his supervisor who said they do not compensate in any form! So why offer it then?! I then called the reservation department like I was told to, and they said they would look into the issue and call me back. This was about a month or two before my flight, and even though it's been a week after my flight, I have yet to get that call I was promised (nor the compensation). WORST PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED! As for the flight, my only complaints are the messy boarding process and the uncomfortable seats in economy. Although you can't really expect more from old planes such as these."

We paid Lufthansa for reserved seats months before this flight. Apparently this was not forwarded to ticketing as the clerk at check-in gave us seats at the very back of the plane next to restrooms and storage. Needless to say, we didn’t sleep at all on our overseas flight. We sincerely hope that our accommodations are better when we return to the US on October 11th.

Entertainment was broken

Wasn’t overbooked, so it was nice having an empty seat next to me. Appreciated the on time flight. Food was really bad though. Received stale vegetarian sandwich with just a slice of cheese and shredded carrots on it. Very strange and not tasty. I didn’t order a vegetarian meal either way of my trip but received all vegetarian meals because they said that’s all they have available.

Luftansa over booking canceled my flight 2 days before I left, so I called to reschedule but didn't answer, so I had to cancel. This has ruined my vacation plans and I already had to pay 3 days for a hotel reservation in Barcelona. I don't think I'll ever book this flight again in my life.

The food choices and quality could be much better. It is not what it used to be.

The flight was canceled for no reason and never heard from them. Luckily Germany has an excellent train system to get us to Frankfort.

The food on business class.

The random boarding went surprisingly well, although I'd prefer the more structured version. Until there is bread, butter and cheese, I am fine with the bland food."
Cons: "Boarding was a free for all. My seat was near the front of the plane but the crew directed me to enter at the back of the plane. There were people entering from both the front and the back, meaning people were stuck trying to get past each other in the tight aisle. It was difficult to find space in the overhead compartments for carryon luggage due to people bringing too much stuff - the crew should have stepped in and helped. The food was a bad chicken sandwich with condiments that I could not eat."

For a flight leaving at 8:30 pm and arriving at 10 AM, I would think breakfast, not dinner, would get the emphasis. Did get some free wine with dinner."
