"Getting off"

Pros: "The whole Business experience on SQ"
Cons: "During the same trip I discovered 2 different arrangements of the Business Class cabin on Singapore Airlines A350, SQ469 CMB-SIN, and SQ036 SIN-LAX. On the SQ036, I occupied seat 15 A (mono, aisle-window): I did not understand the reasoning behind this layout: Seat facing straight the front of the aircraft, but not enough space to stretch the legs, and limited height for the footrest, feet getting hurled against a ceiling very quickly, and also footrest only on one side = one foot. The deep cavity, that is probably meant to house the lie-flat disposition, is at a 45° angle with the general direction of the seat. I am 77 and not in any way a contortionist. I decided that the best course of action was to remain seated for the duration of the 14:30 hours, flight without extending my legs. Maybe the crew could have explained how the passenger is supposed to fit into that weird design, but I did not ask, afraid that the demonstration might reawaken chronic shoulder and hip pain. I would be glad to read (not test) how this configuration is supposed to convey the sense of comfort expected from a Business Class ticket. It did nothing of the kind for me."

Cons: "Plane condition: Cosmetic plastic panel below monitor and seat back pocket on Seat 31E fell off when foot rest was lowered; had previously been secured by adhesive tape. Panel removed by crew. In-flight entertainment system: Persistent intermittent loss of sound while listening to movie or TV program. Food: Tried to use "Book the Cook" feature touted by Singapore's website. Was unable to get on site for that purpose. The last try a message appeared (late September) that site was being "rebuilt." On the flight, there was no menu of choices; we were offered 3 vaguely worded choices which boiled down to beef, chicken or vegetables. Those appeared in not particularly appetizing forms and combinations--P.S., we like east and southeast Asian cooking and had just spent 3 weeks in Japan. Failure to provide information about possible delays due to WRG deplaning location at LAX: Although we are frequent fliers to and from LAX, we'd never heard of the WRG. It would have been helpful if the crew had informed us upon arrival that there could possibly be a wait on the plane as buses were used to transport us approximately 1/2 mile to TBIT. Generally: We chose Singapore because of its reputation for excellence. Belying the name of the class, both Turkish AL and Air NZ treated Premium Economy passengers as "junior" business class. Singapore treated us as coach with a roomier cabin and seating pitch."

Cons: "First experience with Singapore where the crew made a negative impression. As soon as the plane pulled away from the terminal, crew members seemed rushed and frantic, literally running back and forth from Economy Premium to the galley gathering items. Approximately every 7-10 minutes, crew members would be running back and forth next to my seat with heavy foot steps, which would wake me up. I also noticed that certain crew members were shouting at passengers to get their attention instead of lowering themselves to be heard. One flight attendant almost spilled orange juice on me because she turned around too fast trying to serve drinks. I'm not sure if they were short-staffed, or if it was the influence of a certain crew boss, but something was definitely wrong."

They gave her a toy, asked for her name, and checked on us often. They also gave my husband and I an option for early food service so that one of us could help our daughter eat. The movie selection was great. Take off, flight and landing were smooth. And we arrive half an hour early both directions!"

Food option was pretty good and lots of shows and movies to choose from. Getting ice cream was such a treat for my kids!"

Pros: "Check in and boarding were flawless. The flight left about one hour late. The seats in coach are getting smaller and smaller. I got an aisle seat to have a little extra room (I'm 6'1") only to get hit big time by the food cart (they did apologize). The food was plentiful, but mediocre at best. The flight attendants were working hard, but we're abrupt and tired. Overall, I have three stars, when in the past, flying SA was always a five star experience. It got me back home though. :)"

Pros: "What did I like??? Um, EVERYTHING! First off I got a great price under $850 round trip to NRT from LAX was a steal! They let you check two large suit cases plus a carry on and a personal item. That all FREE!!! I travel pretty light but it was great to know they don't Nickle and dime you for bags or anything else for that matter. Staff looks amazing and treats you first class even when your in economy. They are so polite and really genuinely want to give you a above and beyond experience. And they over achieve at it! They meals are great and very satisfying. The planes are big and roomy even in economy seats. On our return flight we had a brand new plane which had a sleek touch screen monitor and controller. There mad tons of media available (articles, language games, games, movies, tv shows and more) with USB ports to charge devices on each seat. Plus 10inch personal monitors. Earbuds were included free of charge, aswell as socks toothbrush and tooth paste. They have is two big meals on our direct flight (awesome that they have direct flights). Plus, they offered free snacks too and gave us a full can of soda vs. a small cup. They come through several times offering coffee, tea, water and snacks. All free of charge. This was my first time flying Singapore Airlines and I loved it!!! I wish Everyone was this amazing! Norwegian Airlines was the opposite as far as charging for everything! Had to pay each stop for any luggage ($100 per checked bag). No meals free or charge. They wanted money for everything! And yea a skimpy sandwich was $9.00 :(."

Cons: "We were supposed to fly back to Los Angeles from Tokyo on Wednesday, August 24th. We got to Tokyo Narita a little later than planned due to the Narita Express train being delayed. I had received emails that our flight had changed gates, and was then delayed, but when my sister and I went to check into our flight, we were told we were unable to board because it was too late. I thought it was absurd because the flight had not even started boarding, and I had gotten an email saying it was delayed. We tried to reason with them, but they would not let us on the flight. It was imperative that we got back to Los Angeles on Wednesday, but all our plans were ruined due to them bumping us off the flight. My sister had a connecting flight to Boston, which she then had to reschedule and was charged for. We were stuck another night in Tokyo, where we had to spend money on a hotel. The Singapore Airlines attendants eventually informed us that we could get on a flight the next day. This delayed us by 24 hours, which was highly inconvenient. It was also especially unnecessary since due to the flight being delayed, we would have absolutely been able to make it. I do not appreciate being bumped off of a flight due to airlines wanting to make more money, especially being stuck overseas. Its not like it was a domestic flight where we could just hop on another one in the next few hours, this totally derailed all of our plans. I do not appreciate the inflexibility of the Singapore Airlines agents, and this is not an experience that makes me want to recommend flying with Singapore Airlines. I appreciate that they did not charge us, however it was a major inconvenience that could have simply been avoided by better customer service and understanding."

Pros: "I have always enjoyed flying on Singapore Airlines. There were no delays on my connecting flight coming out of Tokyo to Los Angeles. The huge plane was like flying in a small "transportable town.""

I really hesitate to even call a flight attendant whenever I fly, so I'm not high maintenance. Incident 1: The flight from DPS to Singapore the flight attendant scoffed when I asked for socks saying that economy passenger don't receive socks on this flight. I didn't appreciate the suggestion that my class wasn't worthy of meeting my request. Her response felt condescending. Her continued interaction with me consistently felt short and mildly irritated with me. I didn't understand why. Honestly, I won't fly Singapore again because of this. Flights are not cheap for me. I spend the extra few hundred dollars because of great reviews and a superior experience last year. I will not be spoken to in a condescending way. On the second leg of my travel from Singapore to LAX the flight attendant once again said that I will not be given socks? Why, thought? I'm traveling for over 30 hours. Have things changed? Second, I asked for a second ice-cream. She handed me the ice-cream then took it out my hand and told me she would have to come back to me. The galley that was suppose to have food didn't seem to have anything. Was I missing something. Be fail on many level."

Cons: "This trip was not quite as excellent as my flights on Singapore Airlines usually are; however, I cannot say for sure there was much that airline staff could have done to change this. A great deal of turbulence earlier in the flight made it difficult to enjoy the food. Also, there was a sewage-like smell that wafted through the air periodically - this could have been a child in the surrounding seats, though. Both of these issues seem difficult for the airline staff to address, however, unless the smell actually came from a problem with the ventilation system. The staff was exceptionally helpful and good-natured, though, which made the biggest difference. Thank you so much."

Pros: "I would definitely fly with Singapore again. Their staff is super attentive, they have lots of options for in-flight entertainment and things generally went smoothly. I didn't sign up for a special allergy meal ahead of time but they were able to accommodate me anyways."

In the future, I think we would benefit from booking either the seat behind us for him that had more leg room, or the seats in front of us that were the first seats of all rows."

On one occasion, a flight attendant attempted to take my food away without asking if I was finished or not. I was annoyed by their lack of manners. I also didn't like having two blankets. There was no room under the seat in front of me, to put it anywhere. It significantly reduced my comfort. The passengers sitting next to me also had no respect when they asked me to step aside and was rude in general. It made my mood worse throughout the flight but I hanged in there. It was okay."

Should be made available. Though I booked the flight for both me and my wife and the special meal request was for both, the wrong Veg meal was made available only to my wife. Something is not right with their system. One you serve what you make us select and then the system is recording only for one passenger."

On our flight from SFO to AKL, no problem but on the return flight they only brought us one child's breakfast. I asked a crew member for the other one. She told us it would be brought over but never was. So my son had to wait until the regular meals were brought and have one of those. Not a big deal but it was a little annoying. Also, for the return trip dinner, they served delicious Kapiti ice cream with the adult meal but no ice cream with the kids' meals so my kids were super disappointed about that and my husband and I shared ours with them. Again, not a terrible offense, just a little annoying."

However, when I boarded and sat in the seat I was assigned, I was moved because it turned out that the couple that was sitting next to me had purchased the seat so they could lay down. I was seated at another window seat, but it turned out the couple in that row had paid extra to have that seat empty as well. I was not only re-seated before the plane took off, but then I was re-seated THREE more times until finally being put in a middle seat after the flight was in flight. To top it all off, the plane was so delayed I missed my connecting flight to my final destination."

Also she was not served food at all when they served breakfast. We requested Hindu meal and I was served hindu meal and she was missed and when they served lunch she was told she has not requested prior to the flight and can only be served a regular meal, which she gladly accepted. Kid was not served any food again, so we gave her solid from our meal. When we requested some food for the baby she was given a banana baby food(Kid did not even eat it). Taste of the food was edible(Not great). Overall do not fly emirates with a kid"

I would pay extra for bit more room. This is a problem with all airlines. They allowed me to take a laptop and a hand baggage in LAX but forced me to check in the hand bag in Dubai. They pick random passengers for this. Irritating."

The attendant noticed my shocked stare and then gave me a veggie meal too. 2. On a 16 hour flight, our tv screens didn't work. None of the attendants even came by to check, even after repeatedl requests. 3. My 6 and 9 year old kids would like to know why they didn't get any of the courtesy toys/coloring books that were given to other similar age kids. I don't want to tell them it was due to their skin color. 4. Even a request for water turned into a tug of war after we had waited for almost 20 minutes. I finally poured it out myself."

I had layover period of 10hrs on.my return leg and about 6/7hrs. These are extremely long hours to sleep on those uncomfortable lounge chairs. This was the worst experience in my flying time."

Cons: "I missed my flight. My flight from Melbourne with Qantas was delayed. I received an express connection ticket to go through Immigration, customs, etcetera. I ran, all for nothing. I should have known better, for sure. 2 hours is unrealistic. But this tickets shouldn't be offered, they give the impression that you can make it. And the staff in Melbourne, and the crew on the plane, all were extremely reassuring. I got to the gate of Alaska Airlines, the people there could only offer me a ticket two days later. And basically they said it was Qantas fault. Having almost no time and no clear way to communicate with Qantas (the 1800 number is useless), I had to book and pay a new ticket. Now I am going to try to contact Qantas for reimbursement but I am not optimistic. In summary, do not buy these types of tickets "in collaboration" with two companies. Especially if you make the connection in the US. It is a scam. 2 hours is no time. And even if you have 3 or 4 hours and there is a delay, you are basically on your own, and the companies give the responsibilities to each other."

I asked hostess what the deal was (because their food service is usually great) and she explained that in this new plane (Boeing 787) they removed a lot of the working areas for the crew. They have less space to work in order to be able to prepare food and drinks compared to Qantas's other planes (Airbus A380). This is also a brand new plane for this crew (literally the first flight for some for some of them), and they didn't know where some of the things on the plane were. I imagine after they've used the plane for a while and learn where everything is, they'll get better. I'll find out on the return flight back to Melbourne."

Pros: "I was excited to come back to the USA after a long vacation. When we arrived at the airport, the security started asking me questions immediately even before I checked in. They demanded I show them the ticket before it was even printed. When I explained that I was trying to check-in for the first time. They told me I was going to be reviewed upstairs and put a sticker in my passport. I proceeded to check in and just walked thru the normal security measures. After scanning my bags in security, I discovered there was no security meeting and proceeded to my gate. After the gate, everyone in line was subjected to a second security screen. This was a manual search and all articles were removed and repacked again. Then we proceeded to the plane entry where everyone needed to verify passport and ticket again. Later in the flight, I was having indigestion problem from my documented medical acid reflux problem and asked for a cup of water. He said sure and walked away. He never came back again.10 minutes later, I pressed the attendant call button again. 10 minutes later and no one came over. 15 minutes after that Albert came back over and said, "I see you have your call light on, please put your seat back up again." I can complied and he immediately turned off the light and walked away. 10 minutes later, Albert came by with the water cart and parked it right behind my seat. He proceeded to hand out water to everyone behind my seat. 30 minutes later the water cart arrived and I finally received my water (75 minutes after I asked!) Thanks Albert, I'll be following up with your management to see that disciplinary action is taken."

Fantastic service all round. Don't forget to use the Premier Lounge in Nadi if you're there for a few hours. FJ$100 for full lounge access. It was an absolute pleasure. Best way to get to the USA from NZ."

Pros: "This flight was on-board a Fiji Airways plan, not Air NZ. The crew were fantastic, the food was very tasty, all sorts of drinks available, lots of overhead storage, plenty of entertainment options on video screen, restrooms adequate/typical, great pilot, smooth take-off and landing."
Cons: "I did not enjoy the tiny, cramped seats - the smallest I've been squeezed into in many years. Hard bottom and narrow; when the girl in front of me put her seat back, her headrest was right in front of my teeth. Also, they use the old school dual-headphones that don't sit flat on your ears and there was no jack available for personal ear buds. Opportunities for improvement!"

Pros: "Had my backpack searched 4 times....one on the walkway on a folding table they set up...as I unhooked my bag (due to them breaking the two zippers in an earlier search) i asked what they were searching for and she saod "we search all American's bags" I said "just Americans?" she responded "Indians too"...then said "go ahead" after I mentioned the zipper issue.....destroyed any chance this would be an enjoyable flight or that I would ever return to Fiji, shame beautiful islands."

Cons: "Fiji airways lost about a third of the baggage on our flight and no representatives would give us any information. Then when we were sent to file a claim for lost luggage, no one was at the office for another hour. While I understand things happen, the way that they handled this situation was completely awful."

Pros: "The flight crew was friendly and efficient. it was a pleasure to fly with them."
Cons: "The entertainment system had EXACTLY the same movies/shows we had on the flight over. Since we flew like 14 hours, we saw everything we wanted to see the 1st time. Maybe offer different choices on southbound and northbound itineraries."

Pros: "Previously took 4 other Air NZ flights on this trip and loved them - great entertainment, very pleasant and helpful crew. The long flight from Fiji back to the US was partnered with Air Fiji and it was just a bit above average compared to our typical experience with Air NZ. The boarding experience was really good and much more organized than most airlines, which was nice. Plenty of bathrooms available, they came around with water frequently, which is a must on these long flghts, and every seat had their own screen for entertainment, which is very nice."
Cons: "Seats were not very comfortable, not much leg room especially for such a long red eye. Movie and TV selection was limited compared to typical Air NZ flights. Half the crew was somewhat unpleasant and overlooked passengers trying to give them trash and even charitable contributions when they were going around collecting specifically those things. (The other half of the crew was the more typically amazing, customer oriented attitude.) Not sure if Air Fiji just over works its crew or what, but it was not as pleasant. The food was also back to typical just ok airplane food, not normal for Air NZ which has great food and lots of it. We also were not able to pick our seats for this flight, which was not ideal for comfort or location."

Pros: "I really appreciated how the crew enforced window shades down for the majority of the flight. It really helped me sleep like I was hoping to so that I can be better adjusted to the time change and reduce jet lag."

Cons: "Boarding passes were not properly issued causing us to miss connection in LA. Flight left Nadi an hour late and although pilot indicated time would be made up, a 10+ hour flight resulted in less than 15 minutes of time made up. There is no possible reason a flight of this length could not make up the entire deficiency. We were told customer service reps would be available for passengers with tight connections. The customer service rep basically told us there was nothing she could do since we had to go thru customs. Will never fly this airline again. Fly to New Zealand previously on Air New Zealand and will use them in future. Price difference is not worth the service deficiencies."

Pros: "Tried to change seat assignment in Wellington, but no one could help and were not able to do anything in Nadi. Forced to sit in tge middle seats although my husband has a history of blood clots and needs to move during the flight. Very cramped flight. My favorite thing on Fiji airways are the blankets. Big and soft - very luxurious. It was a overnight flight, but I felt there was not enough water offered during the flight. Overall, good value for money."

Pros: "The meal was nice and the crew was pleasant. The flight was relatively smooth and there were no mix-up or problems with my luggage after the initial issue of having to pay to check in my carry-on due to being overweight."

Cons: "For the last couple of times I have used Fiji airways they are horrible. So strict! Would let me bring on grey goose which I bought a duty free in Los Angeles... They made me throw it out. Then they try to find any little thing wrong if it's with your bag, or carry whatever they try to make you pay for EVERYTHING! they were about to take away my 3 liquids which was less than 3 ounces because it wasn't in a plastic bag. ALL OF THE OTHER AIRLINES I HAVE USED HAVE NEVER DONE THIS! So I had to leave security go back outside. Come back in and get a plastic bag. If your bag is even a pound over weight, regardless of the fact if you really can't pay it. They won't be nice and help you out at all like some other airlines do for example Air New Zealand, AA, I could go on. Also, more than half of the staff are so condescending and rude, they like refuse to be nice and help out a passenger. If I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO AND AS A LAST RESORT then I would use Fiji. But for right now I will NEVER USE THEM. And I will suggest to my family and friends not to use the airline!!"
