Pros: The hotel itself is nice, clean, and very conveniently located to many attractions and great restaurants in downtown Portland. However, those do not make up for the truly terrible customer service we experienced.
Cons: As a frequent traveler, I've stayed in my fair share of hotels of varying degrees of comfort. Upon checking into the Paramount hotel, I was very pleased with the hotel and my room- however, my pleasant experience stopped there. At 1 AM my first night, the guest in the room next to me was being overly disruptive. I finally called the front desk, spoke to April, and hoped it would be taken care of. The guest continued to be loud and I woke up every hour- at one point she was screaming at a hotel employee that he was assaulting her- until I called again at 4 AM and was told that the guest was being escorted out. However, this process was also loud and kept us up until close to 5 AM- and ultimately, the hotel took 4 hours to solve a problem that I called about at 1 AM. I understand that a loud neighbor is not the hotel's fault- what happened next was. I never received any sort of follow up from them, explaining or apologizing for our terrible night. Since I was not contacted, I stopped by the front desk and spoke to Jeremy- he was rude and did not apologize or offer any explanation as to what happened or what compensation we could expect. I stopped the desk a second time and requested that a manager call me on my cell phone- I was going to be out of my room all day. I left my cell phone number with Jeremy- and received no call. I returned to the hotel around 7PM and once again approached the front desk- I was told there was no available manager and that I wouldn't be able to speak to one until 9 AM the next morning (after I was already expected to check out). Finally, Charlie at the front desk was able to get a hold of a manager who said that she had tried calling my room (even after I specified that I would be out all day and specifically left my cell phone number) and that they would compensate one night of my valet parking ($39). Through all of this, I still never spoke to a manager and never received a formal apology (though a manager did call me on my flight back to New York the next day). Overall, the horrible customer service and miscommunication of the hotel staff left me upset and, frankly after the events of the night before, unsafe. For the cost of this hotel, I expected better service and a better compensation for my lost night of sleep. My stay was handled in an unprofessional manner- I certainly will not be returning and urge others to choose other accommodations when visiting Portland.

Pros: Great location. Can't beat it. Quality was great. Staff was great and extremely helpful (except doorman). Would definitely recommend.
Cons: Doorman were terrible. Never opened the door once for us. Three of them just stood there and watched my wife and I open the door ourselves. I have no problem opening doors, but whats the point of having three doorman if they don't do anything. Minor detail. Just thought it was funny. Not a hard job.

Pros: For our first trip to Portland, this hotel had a prime location for when we did our tours across town. Given the area, it never took much time to get to and from, and to keep busy with all the opportunities available.
Cons: While the hotel staff were friendly, and our room and other amenities were fine, we did get placed in a room next to major construction going on in the rooms next door. Buzz saws at 9:00 in the morning is not something I find appealing about my hotel stay. We stayed for three nights, two mornings. The first morning, I was up early and did not make a fuss. The second morning, the noise was too much to bare. I called the front desk and was offered a room change, but since we were leaving very early the next day, the inconvenience outweighed the option. I understand hotels go through modifications, but my preference would have been for the staff to have enough foresight and not placed anyone in the hall, let alone the room right next to major construction.

Pros: The hotel is clean, convenient and quiet. I stayed here probably 15 or 20 years ago and it has been substantially cleaned up, renovated, and remodeled. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast buffet and other food serving is great. It's a great value for a great hotel at a great location. Highly recommended.
Cons: They are doing a little construction now (February 2014) so if you need to sleep during the day, you might want to pick another hotel.

Pros: The hotel was excellent, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The room was large and comfortable, with very nice toiletries provided in the spacious bathroom. The location is perfect, down the street from food trucks, great restaurants, and only a short walk to great tax-free shopping. We will definitely consider staying here again.
Cons: Our room had a slight odor of dogs / animals. This should be somewhat expected in a pet-friendly hotel, and is only really noticeable once you walk in the room. All-in-all, this was a minor gripe and will not deter us from staying here again.

Pros: Friendly staff; fun, funky decor; nicely situated downtown; and one of the best workout facilities I've seen for a hotel this size (a few elliptical machines, weights, cable machines, pull up bar, etc.).
Cons: The parking is expensive, and works out to be a hidden cost: $26 per day, or $41 if you leave your car overnight.

Pros: Everything was great. Room quiet-Bartenders and servers very friendly. Bartender been there 17 years and a server 22 years!! All prices worth the stay and food great especially the eggs benedict! Bacon to die for! Free wine tasting and a real hot spot on Saturday night! Of course Holiday time helps. Front desk very nice and easy check-in and out. In the heart of downtown Portland and walking distance to the famous Saturday/Sunday Market. Going back many times now....and I only live one hour away.
Cons: It is not that I didn't like it but there was no steam exhaust fan in the shower. But heck, small detail!!! Sort of stiff parking however...$33 before my valet tip. Was for 24 hours however.

9.1
Pros: Very comfortable bed and staff was quite friendly. Great lobby and building with a ton of character, historic architecture, marble, and classic woodwork. (If you want a sleek, modern, generic place that looks the same as a hotel in any other city, this is not the hotel for you.)
Cons: My room (1212) was quite small, especially the bathroom. Because I wanted a single large bed and the hotel was pretty full, I think maybe I had that oddball room that most older hotels have that are squeezed into a non-regular space. In this case, it also happened to be near housekeeping, which was noisy in the morning with carts being banged around. The room was fine but smaller than one might expect. The bathroom was ok for me but would have been an issue for someone who spends more time getting ready. There was not even enough room to stand squarely in front of the tiny sink because a bookcase/shelving unit was put on the wall right in the area in front of sink. I had to shave at an odd angle, off to the side of the sink.

Pros: Hotel is very old but extremely well kept, it has a kind of regal feel whenever you walk in. Very good service and the location is the best.

Pros: This place makes me think of the kind of hotel that upperclass blue bloods would go to when in Portland. Nice lounge, homey luxurious atmosphere and great staff. If you like a nice place with character that is not far from the airport, this is the one for you.

3.7
Pros: It was old fashioned in a Tower of Terror kind of old school glam way
Cons: It felt like the Tower of Terror, staff was rude when checking us in, room felt gross and was ridiculously small and crammed in a corner. The lady at the front desk quoted us an insanely high price, and when I said cheaper was available online she said “well I guess you should book that then.” When to check in 5 minutes later and felt like she deliberately gave us the worst room furthest from the elevator on the lowest floor. They were also under construction which I didn’t realize till I was in the room and there was a piece of paper informing me. Amenities were a joke. Regret booking this place when there were a dozen better options in the same area.

Cons: The walls were paper thin! Twice we had a grumpy neighbor come and bang on our adjacent door telling us to quiet down. first time we were enjoying some wine and we did get in a bit late, so understandable. The second night we were simply watching a movie at 8pm. Ridiculous thing to deal with considering how much we payed to stay there. Pros: Loved the hotel theme and everything was quite comfortable. The bed was like laying in a cloud. There was always a doorman at the front door to open the door for you. And the Driftwood Bar was exactly the kind of place I want to have a drink.
Cons: The bathroom needs more counter/shelf space to put your things. The bath towels were on the small side and not very soft. While comfortable, the bed was not at all firm.

Pros: Easy to find right by providence park stadium where I was going to watch a game
Cons: Pricy for how small the room was and my view was of a roof looking across to other rooms and the curtains didn’t close all the way. The bathroom fixtures were loose and falling off. I could have gotten a cheap motel room and just used the train and saved money if I would have known.

Pros: Great location and decor. Well maintained and clean. Downtown and Washington Park were easily accessible by foot and the light rail. Staff were very friendly.
Cons: Room was incredibly small, especially compared to the Marriotts I stay at for business. My room was also next to the elevators so glad I brought my ear plugs.

Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean and spacious. The staff was courteous and helpful.
Cons: The fitness center was disappointing in size and equipment available. It reminded me of fitness centers in 2 & 3 star hotels. On line it said there was a coffee/shop and bakery at the hotel and there were none. Online it also implies there was a spa but there was not. The front desk clerk said they could call someone off site to come to our room. One tiny window in the room. Paid approx $350 a night. Way too expensive for what it was.

Pros: Absolutely the best location. Easy to travel to any part of portland, 5 minute walk from Powell's City of Books. Really nice staff, really nice valet, decent gym, decent facilities. Room is clean and cozy. Not a great view but it doesn't really matter since you can access the parts of the city with a great view within 10-15 minutes.
Cons: Valet is a bit pricey. No view from our window, but it didn't bother me much.

Pros: The location is great, add parking is free!.
Cons: The rooms were too hot as they only have central air, and they can only have either heat or air conditioning on at any given time. My room faced the highway and the train tracks, so it was quite loud. They did however provide earplugs. But because my room is so hot, I had to sleep with the windows open, and unfortunately both of the screens on my windows were so severely torn they were worthless. I informed the staff about the screens and the next day they were still torn when I returned. I called the manager and he immediately came up and fix the screens for me and offered me an upgrade to a suite. So overall not that bad!

Pros: Hotel Rose is what it is: a recently renovated motel. It's clean and comfortable, and staff are friendly. But to call it a four-star hotel is a real stretch, in terms of amenities and service. Compared to other downtown luxury hotels, this is a big step down at the same price.
Cons: The bathroom is tiny, with outdated fixtures and mold stains. The provided toiletries are cheesy Tommy Bahama brand with an intense pina colada scent that I was a bit embarrassed to smell like all day. The bed only comes with a comforter, strangely folded on top of a bare fitted sheet, so you have to make your own bed. The king bed comes with two of these, each covering half the bed. Just weird. When I asked the front desk for room service to give me a top sheet, I was told I could find one in the closet and to make the bed myself.

Pros: The location and restaurants are Portland favorites. You won't beat either place.

Pros: There is no pool at this hotel. It's a good hotel but I certainly wouldn't categorize it as a 5 star. You'd expect better room equipments and facilities. Pros: Location, friendly staff, hotel restaurant (Urban Farmer), hotel design
Cons: In-room fridge broken, locked out of room for an hour (had to go back and forth to the front desk 4 times before manager concluded that lock needed to be changed, provided with credit for restaurant which was a plus), long wait times for elevator, had higher expectations for a pricey luxury hotel

Pros: I loved the front desk staff and the valet staff. Upon checking in, the front desk staff was extremely helpful with tips on activities in the area and food and restaurant choices. They didn't sound rehearsed with their suggestions. They really seemed enthusiastic about their choices which made us enthusiastic about trying them out. The valet staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well. We left some items in our car that they had parked for us and they offered to retrieve them for us while we waited in the lobby. They greeted us every time we walked in and out the door and just seemed happy to be working there and not just working for tips. The customer service was greatly appreciated!
Cons: The main negative comment I have is that their elevator is rickety and loud. I guess because we checked in at night, we got stuck with the room next to the elevator and you really can hear it every time it goes up and down. Luckily, we were just so exhausted from our daytime activities, we didn't have the energy to complain. Also, the housekeeping staff was a little intimidating. At around 4pm, we went back to our hotel room to freshen up and noticed that our room had still not been made. No big deal. We saw the housekeeping staff in the hallway and decided to tell them they can skip our room, but we wanted an extra towel and a new garbage bag. When we asked them, the staff member demanded my hotel room number in a harsh tone and when I told her, she then shouted to her co worker in another language some verbiage while pointing at us. They had a conversation, that sounded like an argument to me, for a few minutes while we were standing there waiting for the OK to skip our room and give us a towel. Mind you, they were standing right next to the towel cart conversing in their language while I was standing there confused.

Pros: We've been coming to Modera over the last five years, and not much has changed in that time. It's still a nice, modern hotel, but it's certainly not as hip as it once was. That goes for downtown portland in general, however. The front lobby staff is excellent as are the housekeeping staff. They seem to understand the hospitality services industry an do everything they can to make you comfortable.
Cons: Hotel Modera continues to only offer valet parking. That's good because there is very little street parking; however, it's not good when the service is overpriced and the valets don't help with getting luggage in/out of the car. In fact, there's no offering to help in any way other than to hand you the valet ticket/keys. The lobby doors are not automatic, so while the valets stand around, you are convenienced to put down your bags, open the door, prop it open with your foot while you grab your bags and make a dash through. We haven't had this problem in the past, but the HVAC in our room was not heating, just blowing cool air. Turning the unit off resulted in the windows whistling due to the negative pressure in the room. The mini fridge stocked with overpriced drinks was also not working. So our room was cold and noisy, and the fridge was warm and quiet. The front desk staff offered to send someone up right away, but since my wife was still asleep and we were checking out in several hours, I declined, but the staff was very sympathetic. The bathroom in our king room was VERY close to the bed, and the sliding door didn't make it much of a 'privy'. I try to keep up with the latest building materials, so maybe the plastic tub liner that shifts up and down under your feet while taking a shower is new and fancy. I don't think we'll be installing one in our home. The hotel's bar/restaurant is unremarkable in all ways and does not stand up to the other great food and drink options in downtown or the east side. Overall, I think we are done with this hotel considering there are so many other options in the area that are better walking distance to good food and drinks.

Pros: Always enjoy the staff, the contemporary atmosphere, the location, and the garden with fire pits. This is my favorite place to stay in Portland for a reasonable price (the nines is great but expensive, and the loft is great but more for an airport stay). The valet parking was pretty good and free for my Prius (they had a special for "green" cars) and really helped to steal my stay (the nines did not offer anything like that).
Cons: If there was anythInfo@VertebrataChiropractic.com I had a problem with, it was that once waited for 15 minutes for my car and when I asked about it, the valet had forgotten about it. He immediately remedied the situation and had the car in 90 seconds, but it would have been nice to have gotten it when it was first asked for. A small oversight, and overall does not take from my five star rating for this property.

Pros: I checked into Hotel Moderna after a very long day of traveling and checking out of another hotel because if wasn't clean or at all what I was looking for. The guy behind the front desk, after hearing of my travel troubles, offered me free drinks in the hotel restaurant to make my day better. The front desk staff went above and beyond to accommodate me, which is exactly what I needed after the day I had.

Pros: It's a great hotel. It's very conveniently located in downtown Portland, and although you have to go a few blocks to find other restaurants, the one in the building, Nel Centro, is outstanding. Staff is friendly and the hotel is clean, well decorated, and hip. Not really a great place for kids unless you're up for taking them out to one of Portland's many parks -- the hotel is too mod for them to play there.
Cons: Only complaint about Modera is that it's at the mega-junction of Portland's light rail, trolley and bus lines, so during the daytime (including VERY early in the morning) the street noise is pretty significant. The rooms are well insulated, so it's not deafening, but you can definitely hear it.

Pros: Clean hotel and beds and rooms were amazing! The location was slightly far from the places we wanted to be but the hotel was worth staying at.
Cons: One particular staff gave me a bad experience; They were busy with checking people in and I understood that and I didn't mind waiting . All I bought was floss a bottle opener and ice cream. After a long period of waiting he was ready to ring me up, he had no problem finding the prices for the ice cream and floss but could not find the price for the bottle opener. I could see he was getting frustrated with finding it because he felt tension as the line for check in grew larger and impatient. He then said out loud "I'm just going to charge you 3.00 cause this is wasting my time" not only did I feel offended but I also was slightly pissed but I didn't show it I gave him my money and left. 3 dollars for a bottle opener and he said I was a waste of time because I wasn't checking in? Someone needs to teach him that customers that are checking in,already checked in , and customers checking out are all equal.

Pros: The location of this hotel is very convenient for downtown activities and proximity to suggested things to do in Portland. The lobby and bar area are very nice. The work-out gym is also very good.
Cons: While the Hilton is very convenient, there are some problems with this hotel compared to other hotels in this class. While free parking is not included, there is pay-to-park available from the hotel, but the hotel charges twice as much as the parking garage that is just around the corner(price gouging is not okay.) When I tried to ask staff about the private parking garage, they did everything they could to talk me out of it. Don't pay the excessive Hilton parking charge. I am finding that most hotels these days provide free internet in the rooms and in the lobby. I travel and stay at world-class hotels at least twice a month. So I broke down and paid for the premium internet access at the Hilton. It was far from premium. Not the slowest I have ever seen, but close to it. Also, at this level of hotel, I would expect all the rooms to have charging facilities for electronic devices. Sad to say, but the technical comfort of the room was anything but hi-tech!!

Pros: Tuesday night, December 20, the elevators were so noisy I was deprived of my sleep. Hilton should check the elevators There was construction going on so lobby level elevators were roped off for the evening so guests had to walk up two flights of stairs to gain access to the elevators. It appeared the construction crew was cognizant of cleaning up and they kept the worksite swept. However, on the 20th floor the glass table near the elevator looked as though it hadn't been dusted in several days. There was enough dust to write ones name on the glass! On a positive note, the employees at the front desk were very helpful at check in.

Pros: The beds were very comfortable, clean space, (small) but functional bathroom. The gym was *great*, large and definitely had everything I needed to lift weights and do cardio, including a small room with mirrors. It's also very centrally located, and easy to bus to and from, which is one of the best aspects of the hotel.
Cons: I definitely didn't realize there was no complimentary breakfast, and they gave us two full beds instead of a single queen (which is what we reserved).

Pros: Room was perfect for me and I slept very well; comfortable bed and pillows, clean, huge TV, beautiful view of west side hills, and very convenient for conference and downtown activities. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Reservationists were able to keep me in my same room for all three nights even though I had to make two reservations (one at conference rate and one at Hilton Honors rate for the night not covered by the conference).
Cons: Because of my back to back reservations, the digital key would not work during the 2nd reservation. The digital key is super convenient so I missed not being able to use it the last 2 nights, but it wasn’t a big deal to carry the key card. The only other suggestion is as a conference attendee: I’m a big water drinker and carry a water bottle throughout the day. There had been plenty of water to refill my bottle but it would have been nice if I could have filled my container with ice too.

Pros: Hotel is always wonderful.
Cons: Due to snow and ice storm I had to cancel. The hotel was fine with it. It was within their 24 hours. Unfortunately, the company I used on kayak stated I would have needed to cancel on the same date that I reserved!!!!! Are you kidding me? Don't reserve through them. They do not care what terms the hotel has.

Pros: What I liked about Red Lion on the River was that it was next to the river, away from the business of downtown. I liked that our room was readily available to the exit, gym, and tennis court.
Cons: What I didn't like about Red Lion on the River was when I first checked in I asked about an upgrade and I was charged for a room that was not only already booked but was incorrectly told the price for the upgrade and got charged $140 more. During that time I obviously wanted to correct the error but the hotel associate that was helping me did not know what to do and did not report or ask for help initially and was just answering phone calls right in front of me instead of fixing the problem. Plus, I could have been left with this wrongful charge if I had not said anything. The other staff that were free to help at the time ignored what was going on when they clearly saw that I was upset. I was then told I had to call my bank to cancel the charge, but I don't understand how or why the associates at the registrar could not fix the problem by returning the money back to my card. After I called my bank and fixed the problem myself, there wasn't really any remorse or compensation from the staff regarding this whole ordeal. I don't want this to happen to any other guest, so I hope this helps to prevent any mix up with upgrading and with customer service because I did not appreciate of it while at my stay here.

Pros: The room was beautiful and large with a seating area in addition to the regular desk. Otherwise basic amenity which was perfect. We were on the 4th floor with a balcony that overlooked the pool and the river. The bathrooms look newly remodeled and are amazing. The large shower has a nice bench in it so you can put your toiletries somewhere without balancing them on the little shelf most hotel showers have. The shampoo, soap, lotion, etc. were all nice and smelled wonderful
Cons: Housekeeping cleaned our room and did a fast basic job. They took all the towels that were used and replaced the regular towels, but didn't replace the bathmat so we had to use a towel for that. They didn't replace the shampoo or soap that had been used, no big deal with the soap, but we had used the little bottle of shampoo. The attention to detail just wasn't there. The heat bulb in the bathroom was out and the A/C never seemed to do anything more than blow out room temp air. The first night the room was stuffy so we opened our balcony door to cool the room. This would have been fine, but some place was having a party and it sounded like there was a night club outside our door. You couldn't really hear it with the door closed, but then the room was stuffy.

Pros: Close to both cities I needed to work in. Close to Jantzen Beach shopping center.
Cons: It was rather loud, just all around. If it wasn't the planes taking off or landing, it was the ice machine, or the gardener running the lawn equipment, etc. Also, how is it that I pick the one week out of the the year to stay when the pool and the hot tub are both closed?

Pros: Clean rooms and friendly service. Hand soap was available in a push dispenser in the bathroom, and shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner were also in dispensers in the shower. The room (a standard double with two queen beds) was fairly spacious, much bigger than at other hotels charging the same price. I used the free airport pick-up and drop-off, which was very convenient with a little planning (it leaves on the hour and you generally schedule it in advance).
Cons: My complaints concerning the Red Lion on the River are minor. Room-hallway soundproofing wasn't great -- I could hear anything in the hallway at or above moderate volume. No fans in the bathroom but post-shower condensation vanished once the door was opened. I could have used more outlets for convenient charging of my devices.

Pros: Even though I didn't have a room facing the river, I was at the far end of the hotel and had trees which cooled the room down a bit...and I loved being able to open a patio door for the breeze!
Cons: I was a little disappointed that the check in person failed to mention that my assigned room was at the opposite end of the check in area...An extremely long walk after retrieving my suitcase out of the car...however there was an elevator entrance just outside my room at the far end of the parking lot that I was able to take advantage of after returning from dinner with a friend...I just wish people would think one step ahead in order to make life a bit easier.

Pros: Convenient location, some rooms water view fair resturant, no bed spreads I like that.

Pros: Loved the view and location. Room was spacious and had accomodations for two or more people nicely. The soaps and shampoos were restocked as needed.
Cons: The extra blanket in the closet had bugs in it both live and dead. The bathtub had silverfish in it daily. The ac unit made a very loud buzzing noise for the first 30 or so minutes after it was turned on. And the toilet would only fully flush about every third time.

Pros: This is a great place to stay if you're not going to spend a lot of time in the room. If you're here for business, or to adventure off into Portland then it's an excellent location. The room is very basic, including a bed, desk, dresser, TV, bathroom, and air conditioning. It's not particularly fancy, and I felt my room was a bit dim even with all the lights on. It didn't bother me but some people may feel it looks a bit spooky. If you're looking for something fancy, look elsewhere. For what I paid I think the room and location was excellent. It's a great basic place to spend the night.
Cons: I particularly didn't care at all, because I was falling asleep right away every night, but if you're a light sleeper, stay away!! The Portland Trimet system runs very efficiently and you'll be hearing a rumbling sound every ten minutes. My room's shower unit also had a water temperature handle that was labeled incorrectly, so cold and hot were reversed. Potentially dangerous. But at least it was a good, hot shower when adjusted properly.

Pros: Seems relatively safe - it appears that nobody will mug you while inside the compound. Staff seemed friendly.
Cons: However, nothing works (card key, hair dryer, old cathode tube TV, etc..). Coffee pack not replaced the 2nd day. Window-type air heater making noise - when heating off the room cooled down immediately. All things considered - a poor choice for a leisure trip. Probably ok for prospective students, the campus might look more appealing (by contrast) after spending the night here. It is NOT close to downtown - yes you can walk it but it takes 15 min through non-inspiring neighborhood. Also - remember the extra $15 for parking - there is no street parking outside unless you're ok with walking 10 minutes, hence the gauging. My bottom line: I would advise against booking this one for any non-university function.

Pros: The staff was friendly and attentive. Rooms were cleaned promptly during the day. The breakfast buffet was standard fare and did not vary in my four day stay. The hotel is located right next to a light rail stop which makes it convenient to get around town. I found using the rail to see Portland easier than renting a car, however if you plan on going outside the city a car is a good idea. The bed was pretty comfortable and the room was clean. I would likely stay here again but in what the hotel calls a "Comfort King" that has a few more amenities such as fridge (if you are like me and like to keep a few snacks around). There is a courtyard and pool area that was well maintained. Several softballs teams attending a tournament monopolized the area in the late afternoon/evening making it essentially unusable for other guests.
Cons: The room I stayed in, Standard King, was very dated. The carpet had holes worn in some spots. The electrical switch in the bathroom and an outlet in the room were not mounted correctly in their sockets. This type of room is quite basic. No fridge, no microwave, lamps were mismatched (the desk lamp had a burnt out bulb that maintenance never replaced). The furniture and wallpaper were most likely from the 80's. I found the rooms cooling/heating unit never shut off. It seemed to never get to a pre-set temperature, it just ran and ran. If you are sensitive to background noise this will be an issue. The breakfast buffet was alright. It did not offer much in the way of selections. Even fresh fruit was kept to just bananas, oranges or apples. I had a veggie burger at the Lincoln Street Grill in the hotel for dinner one night. The salad that came with it was just iceberg lettuce, diced tomato and cucumber. No frills. The burger was alright and the price was affordable.

Pros: We had stayed there a few weeks ago and thought that the room was adequate for the price, particularly since the hotel is located in downtown Portland. When we had to be in Portland again we made another reservation, expecting a similar experience.
Cons: I don't know if it was the area of the hotel or what, but we found our room to be very noisy. There apparently is no sound insulation between rooms so we could hear a lot of what was going on in adjacent rooms, plus people talking in the hallway. Secondly, the mattress on the bed must have been older because we found ourselves waking up with sore backs in the morning. I hope that this experience was an anomaly but we'll have second thoughts before considering this hotel again.

I slept in a long sleeve shirt, jeans and socks on top of the covers. The bar was very gloomy and uninviting, the tender was very nice but not able to make simple TV channel changes that were requested. "It's March madness and no basketball on TV in the bar?" "there were infomercials" I heard the breakfast was very good from a person in our party but, I had already left to get a meal at another hotel by the water as with all the prior experiences I was not ready to risk eating there. Cons: The front desk staff were always working solo. Everything took a very long time. They would be talking on the phone, helping customers, talking to staff in the back room, etc. They did not acknowledge when a new guest would come to the desk to ask for help, which was very frustrating. Pros: The only good thing about the hotel was that the staff was very friendly.
Cons: The beds were horrible. There were big craters in the middle of the bed so you wake up with a sore back. The carpet was gross and dirty. Pros: The location is amazing. Max line right outside, close to downtown and bridges but not a busy area itself. The hotel is not updated (which is to me kinda cool, feels like you're going back in time) but the room was clean and the breakfast not your normal hotel food! The staff were also super friendly. I would 100% recommend to anyone looking for value over glitz any day.

Pros: Big, hot chocolate chip cookies handed out upon checking in - if they don't hand them out, ask! Good breakfast - real, hot food Helpful, patient staff - I saw them deal with some frustrating situations very graciously Convenient location - there's a busstop right outside and the food trucks on campus are just up the street
Cons: Wifi access is complicated and didn't always work with my laptop. Most rooms have an ethernet cable rather than wifi (available in public spaces), so notebook users will need an adapter (I don't know if the front desk has any). The first floor rooms closest to the lobby are within range of the wifi signal, so ask for those if you really want to use wifi instead of wired internet.
Excellent
9.3
Pros: The value for the money was incredible; comfortable king-size mattress with two pillows each, decent hot breakfast every morning, easy walk or public transport into the city, and friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: The wireless was a bit patchy, and they only have one wired internet connection per room, so I and my partner could not work at the same time very effectively.

8.2

6.0
Pros: The hotel is right in front of a MAX station and a short walk to a streetcar stop on Harrison St.
Cons: The bathroom is really dated and the handle for toilet flush had a brown goo.... not sure why a cleaning person could miss that. The internet connection is free but extremely unreliable. I was bumped off many times while on line. Would not recommend to business travelers. Free breakfast is included but the food is substandard --- with eggs, bacon, and potatoes, not many choices for health conscious eaters.

Pros: It was a convenient location near the airport. Room was clean and the staff were friendly. It's nothing fancy but does the job if you just need a quick place to stay before heading to the airport. They have a airport shuttle option which is nice to use as long as its not full. Check-in early to secure a spot on the shuttle.
Cons: We were counting on using the shuttle service but when we arrived all the shuttle spots were taken for a large portion of the morning. The only available shuttle was leaving at 3am and would arrive many, many hours earlier than we needed to be at the airport, which was unrealistic for me. (I cherish my sleep.) Later they ordered a second shuttle to accommodate everyone which would have been nice. However they did not inform us and we had already made other costly arrangements to get to the airport. It would have been nice to know that a second shuttle was even an option. The pool/gym are not great.

Pros: For the value, you can't beat it. It's close enough to the airport. The staff is friendly. Wifi is great. The amenities are reasonable.
Cons: The place is dated and shows it. The quality has varied by room though. (I've stayed here on 3 separate multi-day occasions.) Wish the restaurant had longer hours. No elevator to second floor.

Pros: While the rooms are somewhat dated they were comfortable. This hotel functions for me as an access point to the PDX airport. The park and fly program is reasonably priced and the shuttle service is 24/7 and awsome. For me and many others living in rural Oregon who have morning departures this is very important.
Cons: My evening check in was painfully slow. The two front desk people were great but it seemed that most people ahead of me had big misunderstandings about the stay, park and fly program apparently related to their on line bookings through various services. Most seemed to think that extended parking was going to be free.

Pros: It is very close to the airport.
Cons: In spite of its proximity to the airport, very little about our stay seemed accommodating or helpful. The front desk person, Scott, said that we'd need to be upstairs if we wanted both of our rooms on the same floor. He failed to mention that there was no working elevator in the building. When we asked him about it, he almost seemed to blame us for choosing the second floor. He was rude, the entire hotel smelled of smoke, the carpets were dirty, and nothing looked updated since the 1960s when it was built. We only had a 15 hour layover, and still, I don't think I'd say here again if it was free.

Pros: The room was clean and quiet. With an early morning flight ahead of us, we merely wanted a place close to the airport with a shuttle service and the ability to leave our car in the parking lot while we made our four day trip.
Cons: Other than the night at the motel, we were charged $10 per day parking fee. Since the roomn rate was much lower than other motels near the airport, even with the $10 per day parking fee, the Howard Johnson Portland Airport was still the most economical place to stay. Although its website indicates the shuttle runs every 30 minutes and you can call when you land, we called late at night and waited on the curb for more than 30 minutes before the shuttle arrived at PDX. The driver was very apologetic, but it was clear the motel was understaffed that Friday night.. Overall it was a good stay and if the motel's rates continue to be substantially lower than its competition, I'll use it in the future.

Cons: Our bathroom was COVERED in mold! All around the tub, up the walls. The staff didn't seem to care. The out door pool is green and not useable. The breakfast consisted of stale white bread a jar of peanut butter and only grape jelly. Also had a waffle maker, but after our stay I was worried to allow my kids to eat it. They has milk on the counter that I smelled and it was discussing. The room above us checked in at 2am and for about 1.5 hours that's all I heard was my walls shaking, and then running around. Never again would I stay there

Pros: Breakfast options were awesome! Morning staff was really nice and friendly. Price was decent.
Cons: Night staff is TERRIBLE. I chose this hotel in part for the airport shuttle. Next time I'll get a cheaper hotel and use Lyft. I called the hotel for pickup after getting my luggage. "Our driver will be there in 10 minutes!" Sat and waited for 30 minutes and nothing. Called them again and they said there was an accident by the airport and the driver was stuck in traffic. Funny how I saw the shuttles for their competitors nearby go by more than once and how Google Maps and Waze showed no traffic between the hotel and the airport. Van shows up 55 minutes after my original call, driver has his leftovers box in the seat next to him. That answers that question. They could've been honest and I would have just had dinner at the airport instead of sitting on concrete smelling exhaust. No apology, no friendliness, and at the end of the ride he gave me a "where's my tip?" look, followed by a dirty look when he got nothing. Needed more soap in the room and night staff acted like that was the biggest inconvenience in the world - after making me wait 5 minutes. Outside of the building by the entrance steps it smelled strongly of urine. Disgusting. Maintenance on the rooms is bare minimum. Exhaust fan in bathroom didn't work, a couple of the CFL bulbs were dim/half burned. Caulking on the tub was sloppy, crappy patching on drywall. Plugs in bedroom all taken by old power strips. WiFi slooooow. BOTTOM LINE: I am price-conscious and wanted the breakfast and airport shuttle for convenience. I'd have spent the same amount and been better off getting a no-frills motel and using Lyft for a shuttle and buying breakfast somewhere. Convenience doesn't come easy when the staff has a can't be inconvenienced attitude.

Pros: They had a room when other hotels were all booked up.
Cons: I found out why they had a room the staff was quite bad. I was given room 239 , my keys didn't work, so I returned to the lobby and the clerk said he had keyed the the cards for room 229, so he programmed them for room 239 as he had written and told me. I went back to room 239 and the new keys worked , except the room was occupied. I went back to the lobby and this time I was given 229 . This resolved the room issue. The next morning I went to the lobby at 4 am for my shuttle for my flight, the clerk checked and said I was not on the list for the shuttle, which I had been added to the previous night. I did eventually get on the shuttle, but I fear at another unhappy passengers expense. Overall I would not recommend them to anyone.

Pros: The location was central to the air port and stadium.
Cons: The parking lot was littered with beer cans. The room next to ours was rented to a group of teenagers throwing a party. Loud music and yelling/laughing/smoking out of the balcony/slamming doors/pounding on the walls until 5am. We called the front desk 4+ times asking to be moved or to have the party kicked out, neither of which happened. We only got 2 hours of sleep. The next morning we asked for a refund for the night and to let us cancel our reservation to move to a different hotel but we were told that only a manager can give out refunds. This was Saturday morning-so no manager would be onsite for 4 days? Getting only 2 hours sleep ruined our entire day.
