Cool retrofitted hotel rooms. Clean facilities. Friendly and helpful staff.
Not the safest area.
The rooftop at The Society Hotel was exceptional, on a clear day/night you can easily see all of downtown. After a walk of about 3 or 4 blocks, you were in a great part of town with plenty of fun downtown activities to do.
The room was very, very small, it was large enough for one queen-sized bed tucked in the corner and a walkway around it big enough for one person. Also, the area the hotel was in was very bad many homeless people occupied the streets outside the hotel.
Nicely designed, very cool vibe, very comfortable even if small rooms. Excellent price point for what is an increasingly expensive city. Being close to the Amtrac train station is also a plus.
Surrounded by homeless people is never a very comfortable situation. Portland needs to solve this nasty problem. However the positives out way the negatives and I will be happy to stay here again.
Walking distance to restaurants and bars. Cute lil’ Cafe in the lobby for brunch. Rooftop deck. Repurposed building materials from original building.
Really good place just external factors of location is a little scary at night with so many homeless. But located close to shops etc
The Society Hotel was originally built in 1880 as a three-story building severing as a safe place for sailors to rest. In 2015, the hotel was completely transformed into Portland’s newest and affordable hotel. Tucked away in the historic neighborhood of Old Town Chinatown, The Society Hotel welcomes all travelers, especially the adventurous travelers.
The Society Hotel offers a 24-bed bunk room, 38 private rooms and suites at ultra-low rates for the area. The accommodation truly connects travelers to the community Some of the private rooms are shared bath and some have private baths. The bunk room is for women or men, and each bunk features plush beds, curtains, outlets and reading lights, plus each of the bunk headboards doubles as storage. There is a coin laundry available, as well as lockers and a kitchen just for those staying in the bunk room.
The one-of-a-kind-amenities at the hotel are just as unique as the accommodations. Guests receive personal concierge 24/7, which mean they have full access to tips, tricks, and guides to the hotel and the city. Adventure cards are also available and placed daily on bulletin boards. Adventure cards are ways for the locals to give ideas for an adventurous day and trip around the area. A rooftop deck allows guest to enjoy a 360-degree view of the downtown skyline and on weekends, allows for sampling of local wines. The cozy lobby with a lounge, fireplace and cafe offers a full-service bar, and the café offers handmade pastries, bread, sandwiches, soups, salads, and snacks. Rotating local beers on tap and wines from local wineries are often a perk for guests.
Portland is known for their affordable hotel shortage, but the upbringing of The Society Hotel has fulfilled the need for many travelers and locals alike.
