Pros: We stayed in Barcelo Torre de Madrid late August 2019 for 3 nights. I was staying with my teenage daughter. We had the most fabulous room and it was so so clean. The facilities were excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. The breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The metro stop is just across the road from the hotel entrance but regardless, everything was within walking distance. Excellent and we can't wait to go back!

Cons: The service in the wellness area was not so friendly, unfortunately. The younger lady (of the 2) summoned us out of the pool at 8.55PM in a less friendly way (the pool was open till 9PM). My son (of 9 years) was still enjoying his swim, but, there was no discussion possible. I understand they like to close on time, though. But, this could have been said nicer.

Pros: This was a fabulous hotel, the staff was kind and attentive, helped us pick a restaurant and coordinated the reservation. We also had a birthday during our accommodation, and the staff left a treat in our room as well as a kind note. We also arrived early from the airport and our room was ready. Additionally, they offered complimentary welcome drinks. Very lovely boutique hotel with pool/spa in the basement, as well as small fitness room. Would recommended this hotel many times over!

Cons: Spa was closed for renovations would have been nice to know that before. Also website said reservations included free tickets to the Prado Museum. We had trouble booking online and instead booked via phone directly with the hotel. Therefore they refused to give us the Prado tickets because it was a web only promotion. Cons: Breakfast is a rip off. We ordered one omelette, two coffees m, two juices, and some fruit...60 euros!!!! When we complained we were told the charge was per person because we ordered two items. They refused to refund any portion of the sub-par, over priced meal. Left an awful taste in our mouth regarding the whole stay.

Pros: We absolutely LOVED our stay at Axel Hotel. We were pleasantly greeted by the hotel concierge, Alberto, who graciously upgraded up to a honeymoon suite for our stay. He was friendly, welcoming, and provided us with great insights about the city. The hotel over exceeded our expectations. It was immaculate, clean, and had wonderful amenities. My wife and I did not want to leave! It also featured a wonderful sky bar and pool which provided a great vibe for both "day" and "night" life- with great music and drinks and snacks by the bar.

Cons: There is no kitchen - fridge, stove, oven, etc; only one microwave is available for guests. Even if you want cutlery, you need to pay to have plastic ones (price is insignificant, but this is very unsustainable!). Since I have many food restrictions and I usually cannot have ordinary breakfast or snacks, having a kitchen is always essential for me (and I guess for many other travelers choosing to stay at hostels).

Cons: It took us a lot of time to check in because of a mistake the staff made and only the manager could fix. The hostel doesn’t have a kitchen and you cannot even drink a coffee or eat something from the outside in the property. Also, we were supposed to check out at 10 but our cards were already disabled at 9:20 so we had wake people up by knocking when we wanted to go back to the room.

There was also a kettle in the room, which was something hard to find in some of the other hotels in Spain.

Not sure if this is the norm in Madrid There is a lot of noise coming from other rooms when people talk in the hall or just leave their room the door closing is so loud as if it’s our door. Even when we had the “Do not disturb” sign hanging on the door, the cleaning staff still try to open the door. This happened multiple times which is very annoying. The breakfast selection is very limited.

Cons: Almost everything was fine. Only problem might be arriving the hotel from the airport, but this is not related to the hotel. Google maps offer multiple ways with different change over options. If your luggage is heavy I suggest keeping the change overs to minimum. For example rather than approaching the hotel from San Bernardo station you can walk from Argüelles station with a single change over at Nuevos Ministerios.

Cons: This hotel doesn’t seem like a five star to me, definitely a solid four. There was a luke-warm reception when arriving, no one was at the door and there was no one to assist with bags or show us the room. Overall it wasn’t a very welcoming experience. There was a similar experience when trying to check out. The main receptionist at the desk was dealing with another guest however there was another receptionist (or staff member) at a different desk busy on her computer and ignoring me. I just placed my room keys on the desk and left as I couldn’t wait too long. There is also no valet parking, something which is usually quite common for five star properties (certainly is the case for the Villa Real which I’ve stayed at). I parked at the NH car park down the road and tried querying with staff whether there were any discounts due to us staying at an NH hotel. This was something which was never answered.

Pros: The breakfast is FABULOUS, worthy of a five star hotel. The personnel at breakfast are very lively and welcoming. The location is great: you can walk to almost everything - museums like the not to miss El Prado are just a 6-7 minutes walk, El Retiro park is also close by, the beautiful plaza major is like a 20 minutes walk, 5 more minutes and your at the royal palace and al Mudena cathedral. Also Atocha train and metro station is just 5 easy minutes away. Plus, right in front of the hotel, I mean just at the door: taxi stops, several bus stops.. We stayed on 2 separate days and, in between, traveled by train to Lisbon: they very kindly kept our heavy luggage for 4 days until we came back, which allowed us to travel light. We are very thankful for that. Rooms are comfy and well furnished.

Pros: The breakfast is FABULOUS, worthy of a five star hotel. The personnel at breakfast are very lively and welcoming. The location is great: you can walk to almost everything - museums like the not to miss El Prado are just a 6-7 minutes walk, El Retiro park is also close by, the beautiful plaza major is like a 20 minutes walk, 5 more minutes and your at the royal palace and al Mudena cathedral. Also Atocha train and metro station is just 5 easy minutes away. Plus, right in front of the hotel, I mean just at the door: taxi stops, several bus stops.. We stayed on 2 separate days and, in between, traveled by train to Lisbon: they very kindly kept our heavy luggage for 4 days until we came back, which allowed us to travel light. We are very thankful for that. Rooms are comfy and well furnished.
Cons: One thing I didn't like on our second stay, the room wasn't very clean and the kettle had coffee remains. When I informed the person in charge, the reply was that it was actually stained and needed extra cleaning time... I found the reply unprofessional: it is a 4 star hotel, I'm sure they have a replacement unstained kettle to put in the room.

Pros: The location is fantastic, but since I already know Madrid I knew this going it. It's about a block and a half from the Plaza Espana metro and it's very accessible to pretty much everything. I also liked that they had a free mini bar though there were just a couple of Pepsi's, bottles of waters, a couple of juice boxes, and an alcohol free beer. It was still a nice bonus. Another surprise was how big the bathroom was, nearly as big as the bedroom and there is a remote control for the bed that elivates it. The room was also really clean.

Cons: I was disappointed actually, despite of all the things I said prior. It's listed as a 4 star hotel so I had high expectations and it didn't meet them. The room was an interior room so there was no view, fair enough though, I guess they can't all be. There was only shampoo/ body gel in the shower, I'd fully expected if not tiny bottles of each, then dispensers for all three. Also the decor was quite outdated looking, not old fashioned in a tasteful way, but outdated. Like it was still stuck in the 80's. One other point, I was really excited about the spa, but that was the most disappointing part. No seperate changing rooms, 1/2 the jets didn't work and the jacuzzi was tepid, also the sauna was broken.

Pros: The Breakfast fast is good but I am not happy to the room and the toalett shower is old and the water does not exit from the wash becin. the comforter doesnt have any bed cover. I book 3 person but they give 2 towels.
Cons: The room is not good enough and i can hear the noise from the other room. I request all what i need but i didn`t get it.

Cons: As soon as you left the lobby it was apparent it wasn't going to be a great experience. Wallpaper hanging off every single wall on level 5 (where my room was). Air conditioning unit was so old, it was better to open the window!

Pros: Loved the location, breakfast was nice (not stunning, but good enough). The staff were very nice and the café was good.
Cons: The room and the 6th floor in general was very shabby and dated. The window from our room had no restriction on opening - it was big, low down and a sheer drop down to the street below. Terrifying! I still can't work out why this hotel has 4 stars, it was basic.

Pros: The Location is excellent as you can walk across the street to the Pio Principle train station. There is also a small shopping mall there as well. The price is inexpensive.
Cons: The room Air conditioning was almost non existent. It was very warm in Madrid when we stayed. I need to be under the covers when I sleep. The pillows were the worst I have ever encountered! They were long and thin so they offered no head support. If you folded them in half it was worse because it became very firm and uncomfortable like sleeping on a bath towel that was rolled up and then folded in half. I need absolute darkness to sleep. The light illuminating from the TV literally lit the room up. It wasn't until our last night that I figured to cover the TV with blankets. The walls and ceilings seem thin because I heard banging and conversations going on in other rooms, both above and on the side of me. You could even hear the people across the hall. The complimentary breakfast buffet also was not worth even going to. Everything was not only substandard and cheap, but while we were there the hotel was at capacity, so the buffet area was extremely loud, and everyone was grabbing food as fast as they could. We ate breakfast outside each day after that. Bottom line...Spend a few extra bucks for a more comfortable hotel, with a better breakfast!
