I really appreciated the check in service at Heathrow airport - amazing they checked our luggage and gave our passes through to Chch NZ. Chairs were comfortable. Good leg room. While we appreciate the lounge, they could have offered a wider range of options (a few more vegan options).

We had to pay an unexpected $320 on the day of flight. It was ridiculous and while we were boarding the flight attendants held us up again bc we had not paid the fee. But we tried to pay the fee at the front desk the first time and then we paid it at the gate and then boarded last on the plane. It was awful. The staff did not know anything and we were not treated great. Super unprofessional and disappointed at Kayak for not laying out all the costs ahead of me."

The nice people at Virgin used an online code to give us a discount so we only paid 25 AUD a bag. Thanks a lot for the heads up Kayak. We will book direct next time to avoid surprises. Also, almost all movies on Air New Zealand were an extra charge, and the only drinks offered for free on a 3 hour flight were coffee, tea, and water - no soft drinks."

This is not enough time, doesn’t allow for customs and immigration. It was a really stressful experience running between terminals with my luggage, as there was less than a 1 hour window after getting through customs and immigration, so the bag drop at international wouldn’t accept them. Got to departure gate 12 minutes before plane departure. You need more time to have a good experience !"

I’m traveling from the US and didn’t have a cell phone that worked in Australia... which I explained and asked how I could call the number without a phone. Was promptly told to go over to Virgin Australia ticket counter where I made the one remaining agent who was closing the desks help me. However the airport lost my luggage and could not find where it was. I ended up spending three hours in the airport and still no luggage with the baggage company saying they have no record of it anywhere. Very frustrating trip."

We photographed and sent through passport details. We phoned the booing site, we phoned Virgin, we were put on hold for 25 mins while the booking site phoned Virgin - but Virgin refused to help us out! My husband was not able to board the flight - no refund, no help - and the sad part was, it wasn't for a holiday - it was to visit and help his 87yr old father-in-law who had fallen and cracked his spine. No sympathy from Virgin, VERY DISAPPOINTED!"

We had to cancel a planned event on day two and shop for clothes for a specific activity on day three. The only way to make contact with Qantas was via Instagram, Luggage did appear but so far no contact or apology from Qantas. We will not fly with Qantas again. Virgin Australia is our carrier of choice who outperform Qantas in every respect. This flight was gifted so we had no choice."

The seats are not competitive with other business classes in the sky. I realize that is about to change. The business class lounge in Sydney had very poor food options in my opinion, and I was quite peckish after having skipped lunch to travel to the airport for a 4pm flight. The food options on the flight were much better, though overall options / taste were just OK."

So two very serious questions that I have not yet gotten a satisfactory answer... 1) why were they allowed to re-book me without my consent? Every other situation, including changes to this itinerary in the past, I was told no changes could be made without my approval? 2) if they had already give away our confirmed seats, why in heavens did they tell us to run? At the airport I got a variety of answers that seemed to be pointing fingers since Sydney flight was Virgin Australia and LAX was Delta....despite codeshare seems these two companies do not work so seamlesslessly and one has no real idea what the other is doing....to the travelers detriment."

We were told that if we had paid in advance it would be cheaper, but we didn't know what the weight of our bags would be so I just figured I'd pay at the airport. They didn't say that they charge so much more at the airport - which is a total rip off. We were also harassed by not having the email that showed we purchased an Australian Visa which is digitally tied to our passport. If they need to verify our Visa, then they should have the electronic means to verify it. Also, we were traveling from Sydney to Auckland so since we were leaving the country I'm not sure why they had to see our Australian Visa in the first place. We were already in the country!"

I understand keeping folks in check so they don’t bring big bulky items, and I get pushing the weight angle to drive sales, but taking the bag (after folks have paid for the “extra weight”) and putting it in the belly is excessive. As a male, I had no purse and all of my items were taken from me and I had to hope they made it to the other side (which they did, but it isn’t always the case). However, my wife was allowed to have two items (purse and carryon) as long as each were under the 7kilos and combined weren’t over 15 kilos. My bag was 14.4 kilos. Same weight being brought on and it’s just semantics and really kinda sexist against men if you think about it. Just sayin..."

Kayak should tell you about these hidden fees upon booking as the fees were in the fine print AFTER booking and we simply did not read the fine print. Very disappointed in the lack of communication from Kayak. Entertainment cost an additional $10 and their choices were limited, food and drinks also cost $ on the plane."

Cons: "RIDICULOUS baggage fees. Because I booked through Kayak I never received a confirmation from the airline. When we went to check In at the airport I was informed I would have to pay $160 PER BAG and $35 PER KILO over 15kg. The agent informed me that I needed to pay baggage fees based on weight at the time I booked. How in the hell am I supposed to know 2 months in advance how much my luggage weighs? The baggage fees were 4 times the price of the ticket! And then they weigh your carry on to try to collect even more fees if the total weight of your carry on exceeds 7kg. No food or water on board and VERY rude head flight attendant. NEVER AGAIN and I will think twice about booking through Kayak given I was never informed of these fees in advance."

Customer Service at the counter was horrible including the manager that we talked to. We ended up throwing things in the trash to get our weight down and we were told we changed our baggage weight and lowered our own allowance . How rediculous would that be of us. They even told us we were only allowed 1 carry on which includes our purse and could not be over A certsin weight. For a small carry-on......that is really rediculous. Our luggage cost us $470.00. We had no complimentary food or entertainment for our 8 hour flight. We will NEVER fly this airline again and I hope from reading this review and many others, that you won't either."

I assumed that on an international flight that one bag was at no charge. But NO! When I got to the counter to check in for the flight I was told that since I hadn't paid for our one bag per person prior to now, that they would be charging us $100 US per bag. If we had purchased it prior to checking in the cost would have been $20 per bag. After paying $200 for our two bags I felt totally taken advantage of. Beware. "Extra Baggage" means ANY baggage!"

It would be better if the food is served as breakfast before arrival."

We get to the terminal and have to run through to catch our next flight so no food. Then fly another two hours with no food and end at 2 am still hungry. Offer something to eat to your customers, don't be a shitty airline."
