They canceled the flight on Nov 2 and changed it to Nov 1st but did not change connecting flight date. It took me 21/2 hours each day for 3 days to talk to Air NZ to fix my schedule. The aircraft is old and looks like the one Cathay Pacific used in the late 1990s. Their vegetarian meal is so bad that you skip the meals. In short this airline is going downhill so fast and I will not use them again.

Upon check-in I was told it would cost $120 to check my luggage in (which I reluctantly paid). They indicated my ticket did not include this. I later discussed this with my two travelers and their check-in luggage plus a meal were included with their Expedia (Virgin Australia) ticket. Why was my Kayak (Virgin Australia) ticket so different from Expedia when our bookings were done about the same time? I no longer trust Kayak for future bookings."

Virgin Australia is our carrier of choice who outperform Qantas in every respect. This flight was gifted so we had no choice."

Cons: "Flight cancelled, then booked by Virgin without consultation, onto a flight via Sydney that would take 6 1/2 hrs to get there, had to request another flight but still lost most of the day of my holiday, plus left with many phone calls re change of rental car, arrival , parking bookings, and no compensation and then stress when I got to the airport and was told that despite being "booked " on the much later flight, now I might not actually have a seat. I had to wait while attendant at counter tried to find seats and only watch as they were taken by someone else several times. So unnecessarily stressful and misleading. Lost my original seats, had to sit separate from my companion, and no real concern by Virgin about their impact on customers' plans. Last time I flew, the plane was cancelled, and we had to wait hours for another one in the terminal, so I missed the body corporate meeting that was the ONLY reason I was flying to Brisbane, paying for overnight accommodation and car rental and flight and I MISSED it. Huge cost for NOTHING, as despite driving straight to the meeting, it was just finishing. Whilst at the airport trying to fly home, I heard another Virgin flight cancelled , again due to "unscheduled maintenance". Seems that maintenance and mechanical problems are common and way more common than they should be. So that is a big worry!"

Clearly the company vacuuming the carpet doesn't bother doing the job properly and doesn't take the time to look from the window seat position. Shocking indeed."

Cons: "I was unable to check in online and arrived in Melbourne 3 hours in advance of my flight. I had to stand in line for over an hour just to check in for my flight. It was a complete mess at the check in desk. There were several issues with other passengers that caused two gate agents to be tied up for upper 30 minutes. Rather than taking them to customer service they continued to block the line. Then with Economy gates being down to only 3 (with my guess at over 100 people waiting to check in) one of the agents used the economy line to service business class pasangers, when there were already 3 agents serving the business class patrons. While I understand business entitles you to special priorities but to have your economy passengers (who are all paying over $1500 a ticket) to have to wait so long for business passages to all walk straight get up can waiting 5 minutes felt very wrong and made many people upset. My family was waiting to see me off and subsequently got charges $30 in parking due to the delay in check in. Also communication at the gate was very poor. Flight was delayed several times due to wind and no announcement came from ground staff, only way I knew was due to an email. I could tell a lot of guests were very distressed. Very disappointed from a company that prides itself on service."

Missed the next flight and had to wait another 3.5 hours for the next flight, even after explaining the situation to a gentleman at the customer service desk, he said he could not help us, and gave my partner and i am $8 food voucher while we waited as a 'sorry'. Then on the way home another 30 min delay. horrible first experience flying, Was very disappointed in the customer service & missed my brothers wedding. I should have booked Qantas instead of Virgin."

However, when a couple asked for something different for religious reasons, they were given another meal. I have been a vegetarian for 16 years, but apparently ethics means nothing when compared to religion. Staff were not sympathetic at all, and we went without a meal, after paying a lot of money for the flight, and checking in advance that there would be vegetarian food. Gelatine is not vegetarian."

Cons: "We had to pay $400 dollars to check 4 bags (2 bags per person). The bags were not overweight or oversized. We were told we had purchased a ticket with no baggage. I am a frequent traveler ( 10 flights in 6 weeks) and have never experienced such charges for baggage. It was not clear at the time of purchase that there were different levels of tickets. The agents at the counter was only interested in maximizing the fees we were charged and not helping us with other options. The plane was late and there was very limited seating in the waiting area, so most people stood for the extra 40 minutes of the delay."

Eventually announced they definitely couldn't land in Queenstown and would divert. Spent an hour on the tarmac in Christchurch and finally announced it was cool enough to land in Queenstown. Arrived 7 hours after the booked arrival time, along with a further 2.5 hours drive home. Missed a planned social function. Never, ever again. Even if they offered free flights. NEVER."

Even though we were at the airport almost 2 hours before flight time. Check in process was extremely old fashion. Been on the plane we won’t even asked for food so I am not sure what with the system there either we have to pre-buy the food or something else that we weren’t made aware of. And we had to pay for our own water."

Cons: "Buy luggage online! When we bought our tickets, the price per bag online was $15-25 pending the weight and size of the bags for checked luggage. Most airlines give you one checked bag for free, but whatever. $50 for two bags is not a huge deal. What I didn't know, and they didn't specify, is that was the online only price. When I got to the airport, they quoted me $225 for 2 bags! 225!! Both bags were around 40lbs each. Then they told us that if each bag weighed 6lbs less, the price would be $120. Let's just say our carryons ended up getting packed to the brim... And they still charged us $120. Ridiculous."

Completely destroyed our travels which we saved years to accomplish. Avoid these (JETSTAR) like the plague, unless you want an incompetent airline to wreck your traveling. Words really cannot describe our feelings towards our treatment and lack of any empathy from the airline, who took a booking and then cancelled it in record and and said there is no other flights! Thanks for that - never again."

Cons: "You have to pay for EVERYTHING, including entertainment. You may think you have found a great deal, but look at the extras before you purchase. This is the mistake I made. I didn't have a meal because their website was not working for me to pre-order. When I mentioned this to them through chat, they said they have food available for purchase in flight. When I was ready to purchase (the second time they were walking the isles) they said they have no food left and offered me cheese and crackers, to which they then asked me to pay for! So on our 11 hour flight we had 4 crackers and some cheese. Before boarding the plane we were told we were only allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item. We left some luggage behind thinking we would not be allowed to take it on our flight. Upon boarding, we saw that the row behind us had large amounts of carry-on forcing our entire row to stow out luggage 4 rows away. I'll never be flying with jet star again."
Cons: "Ended up on a Jetstar flight on a codeshare arrangement with our booked airline Qantas. The journey didn’t start well when our bags would not scan through the self serve checkin as we had not booked direct with Jetstar. We then asked for an aisle seat, but this was refused - the “customer service” assistant advised we should have paid extra to pre-reserve a seat (a no cost option on Qantas). Then when we entered the plane we found that both adjacent aisle seats were in fact vacant. Food was an additional cost item - on an 8 hour flight. Those unlucky enough to ask for a meal late found that there was nothing left for them. Entertainment was also an additional cost item - when paid for the selection was extremely limited, the system slow. The entertainment froze up requiring a reboot. Though not the airline’s fault, the person behind was very fidgety, making it very uncomfortable for anyone sitting in front of him. If the seats were slightly further apart we might not have had that experience either. All in all not the best, given that we had booked with a full price airline and ended up on a budget airline instead."
Cons: "I didn't check in my bag, didn't bother to weigh it. They weighed it at boarding and it was too heavy (my bad, I probably should have checked) and had to be checked in. My gripe is that they made me pay $60 even though my ticket included a free piece of luggage. Their argument was that I didn't use that facility at check-in and therefore waived the right to that piece of check baggage."

We were told by the Jetstar employee on the flight from from Auckland that there was no checked baggsge requested Not likely from our end because we had 8 flights in a 3 week period. We had our bags weighed at special services and was told we were limited to 15 kg for a checked bag. One bag supposedly weighed on that scale 17.6 kg but the same bag showed it weighed 13.9 kg when we checked it in. We were forced to pay $70 per bag for a total of $140. We need a refundnd immediately. Funny, on the return trip to Auckland our tickets showed 1 checked bag per passenger and we'were limited to 20 kg per bag on Jetstar. How can an airline operate this way. Your survey is ridiculous because you ask for ratings on nonapplicable items. ."

Took an international flight and all food and drinks on the flight had to be purchased, pretty ridiculous that the airline does not include water over a three hour travel time."

Pros: "Initially I liked the price and time of the flight, but the amount you have to pay for luggage negated the first thing, so all I was left with was convenient timing. The plane crew was nice, though as there was no beverage or food service unless you paid for it (they will give you tap water for free), there wasn't much for them to do."
Cons: "They weigh your carry-on bag and have a ridiculous 7kg (combined personal and carry-on) limit. Then they blast you with a $25 per kg overage, so if you have the misfortune of being 5kg over (as I was) you get the pleasure of a $125 fee (which I just saw my card was charged $250 - I need to contest that). The seats are so thin you feel the tray of the seat behind you pressing into your back the whole flight, and they recline maybe a whole 2 inches. There is no entertainment, no beverage or snack service and the plane sounds and feels like a cheap car with terribly loud noise and no shocks. As I said in the title, I'd recommend quantas or new Zealand air and spend slightly more (or maybe less after the baggage overage fees) for a better all around experience."

Cons: "Used Qantas frequent flyers for this flight, the booking reference wouldn't work to manage the booking via Jetstar or Qantas so unable to select seats etc. We were allocated the 2 worst seats on the plane basically in the galley next to the toilets and no window. Unable to sleep or relax due to the seat constantly being knocked by passengers going to bathroom or sitting on the arm rest and when that wasn't happening the fight attendants chatting away behind us sounded like they were inside your head you were that far in to the galley. Wouldn't pay for this flight."

So, nearly missed the flight even while arriving in plenty of time for boarding, we had to pay another $8 for the shuttle to the international terminal even though it was a domestic flight. Staff was not understanding of why that might be confusing, and kept referencing the amount of numbers in the flight number that should have magically indicated to us that it was an international flight."

Cons: "I put it online and it was not clear that there would be extra charges for all checked baggage. I had to go back and add to check bags at a cost of $25 each. When we got to the airport the gate was not listed and we had to wait in the general area away from the boarding gates. They did not post the gate until they actually started boarding the airplane so when we got there we were pretty much at the end of the line. And They did not board by rows or any other method it is come one come all chaos. Then while we were in the baggage police came by to check the weight of our carry-ons. They did not check everyone only some. We were among the unfortunates that got checked. We were slightly over there a maximum and had to check two carry-ons. Another $25 each. everything about the airline seems cheap. The seats do not even have a little pocket in front of you to put things like glasses or books. They must've saved $1.50 on each seat. After all the extra charges it would've been cheaper to book with her quality airline. Unfortunately we have a return flight booked and can't get our money back so I'll have to fly one more time. But never again."
Pros: "Upon check in, I was unable to proceed with checking my luggage because apparently when I booked the flight through Kayak, it did not prompt me to indicate how many bags I would be checking on this flight. On the day of the flight, it costs $160 AUD to check a bag that is 15kg! $160AUD!!! That is an insanely high amount of money to check 1 piece of luggage. For every 1kg over 15, it is an additional $25AUD. Can you believe that? The airline refused to waive the fee and blamed the 3rd party booking company (Kayak) for the oversight. They did, however, let me sit in a exit row, free of charge. This is so backwards. I would have much rather just sat in a normal seat and checked my bag for free."
Cons: "Once I boarded the flight, I was seated in an exit row, and something was leaking from the area above me. It looked like the color of coca-cola and/or urine. I called the flight attendant over to my seat once the seat-belt sign was off, and he immediately assumed that my bag in the overhead was causing the leak rather than running to bring something to clean it up and stop the leak. He kept checking the overhead luggage area when the leak was clearly coming from the air conditioning unit. The leak splattered onto my arm, book and passport. It was disgusting. I had to ask the flight attendant if I could move seats. I was not given any type of voucher for a free drink, free seat upgrade or free luggage check. Yuck. Thankfully the leak eventually stopped."
