I took an uber to get to the CBX location. The guy at the desk brought up my reservation/confirmation code and said "We don't have a car for you because the reservation wasn't made more than 72 hours in advance." He also added that 'they almost never even have those kind of cars' (EV) and then just went back to looking at his computer. I asked what other options I had and he said none, they had no other cars and he again went back to what he was doing, completely ignoring me. I had to uber ($50+) to the downtown airport to get a car at a different agency/price because no-one at CBX had a car. I was warned by the SAN location and by the first uber driver that this was a franchise and that they often didn't have cars they said they had. Never ever again, because you are really stuck out there with no options, and it's a long way from anywhere. There was no notice that the reservation would not be valid because it hadn't been made more than three days before the pickup time, in fact it was quite the opposite. The Kayak email subject was "It’s official: you got a ride for San Diego" The body of the text said: You’ve secured your car for San Diego. Jun 8 - Jun 16 Let’s cruise, your trip is good to go. We saved your rental car info to our Trips tab to help you stay organized while you plan. Here are the details - you’re one step closer to your destination. (and then it showed all of the details of the reservation). Of course that led me to believe I was good to go :( Instead, it was hours on the phone as well as an expensive uber ride and a far more expensive on-the-spot car rental at SAN. Good help is hard to find, and the guy at AVIS/CBX was not good help at all with his 'you should have known better/dismissive' attitude.
My problem is not with budget, it is with Kayak and will not use the service again.

Ended up paying $200+ because I booked here from the airport rental center and this app booked it 30 min away to one close to the damn border. I’d had to get a Uber for not only myself but for my 2 kids aw well. Ended up settling to just rent from the location the shuttle already took us to, just to find out it’s gonna be $350 more. Manager did to some adjusting to get it a lil lower. I was grateful for that. Also upgraded my vehicle for no cost. :)
My flight was delayed and when I arrived, they could not find my reservation. They offered to rent me a car for the same period of time for $360 while my reservation was only $115. I refused the offer and went to costco.com to book a car to pick up 20 min after that for $156 with Budget. Never again with this company.

My rental was not at the expected location. When I searched in Kayak, I searched for car rentals near the San Diego airport. Apparently there is a small municipal airport near the border with Tijuana and there is a Hertz car rental location there which came up in my search. Since I would not have expected this type of option to come up in my search parameters, I did not think there was a need to check the address of the rental location. A mistake I will never make again. However, I also will never be using Kayak or Hertz again. I will not be using Hertz mainly because the person at the rental counter in the actual San Diego airport location was not willing to help me other than to indicate that I was at the wrong location and that I should go to that other location if I would like my rental car.

I put in San Diego Airport and it listed this place half an hour away, at a different little airport right next to the border. They were unprofessional and the agent was apathetic. Our flight was delayed a few hours and she said our reservation was cancelled because they only keep it for an hour after the pickup time you put on the reservation. I have never heard of that before anywhere else! So, they charged me about $70 more than the reservation I had set up!

Terrible experience overall. Stay far away from this place for many reasons: 1. Car rental facility is far from San Diego (on the border with Mexico), 2. Staff does not speak English. 3. No flexibility with rental terms. 4). Unreliable cars. Ours broke down the second to last day, with less than 50 total miles driven. Car had to be towed back. Never received so much as an apology (again, the language barrier), let alone an offer to remunerate for the giant fiasco that was this rental experience. Long story short, do not rent from them!

I probably didn't read the correspondence carefully. My drivers license wasn't sufficient ID and they required a second form of ID. If I hadn't had one on me I would have had to go to another counter to rent. You should make that requirement in BOLD print so I can't skim past it.

I liked NOTHING. Dollar (or Kayak) completely ignored my request for a car to be picked up in the San Diego Airport area with access to me after I arrived from my flight. Instead, never clearly explained or otherwise made possible, Dollar (or Kayak) chose to rent me a car to be picked up in some alleged place in San Diego that serves some airport in Mexico. When I arrived and took the shuttle from the Airport to the Dollar location, I found a long line of customers and over the next 45 minutes in line watched and discovered that the Dollar agents were trying mercilessly to scam customers into purchasing different cars or pay for extras they did not need. The agents were few in number in low in abilities. No goodwill or effect to truly help customers (many who appeared to leave without a car, all of whom were upset with the service). One agent during the process mentally broke down and left. Others ran off for breaks. When my turn came, I was told they had no reservation for me, and no cars to give me, in any event. When I gave them the number of my reservation, they simply said that was in another office. I asked if there was anything they could do or recommend -- the answer was No. As I left, the agent serving me made a general announcement to the long line of customers that Dollay was not honoring any of the reservations made the day before (whatever that meant). I left with no car and had to take a taxi to my destination, at a cost of $100. Needless to say, I will not again attempt to rent any car from Dollar (or Thrifty) and I will not seek Kayak's assistance in renting cars, likely anything else. The worst service I have every received in my long life.

I rented with the understanding that I could pickup the car at the San Diego airport. It turned out the location to pick up the car was 22 miles away and a half hour drive. And there is no free transportation available. It’s on your dime to get there. This is insanity. You need to make it very clear that the location is 22 miles away from the airport. I seriously doubt you will have any takers.

My experience was terrible I had to carry my dog and luggage each way from CBX after waiting for nearly 30 minutes ( way slow) to be assisted by someone that was not customer service oriented didn’t speak English fluently to be told they could take my debit card!!! Never again will I rent car from this place
