Hertz would not honor the contract at the MEM airport counter. I wasted $$ on Uber to/from airport and non-$$$ refundable lodging in Kansas City. Really f*cked up my plans. Thanks Hertz.Reviewed 22 May 2025

Worst experience. They rented out my prepaid reservation and had no other car available to me and told me no rental car available in any Hertz in the city. Part of this experience is due to my fault. I didn’t realize there is very short time window in Hertz for me to pick up the rental car. But there is no such warning during my booking or via email/text after the booking. They did mention if no show there is no refund of my prepaid amount. So my understanding is the car will be held for a reasonable time window until I show up. But they just rented out my reservation without any notification to me. And when I took a Uber to get to the Hertz place and then found out I had to take a Uber out.Reviewed 9 Nov 2024

I booked a car a month in advance. Then on the day of pickup they tell me they are overbooked and don’t have a car for us. Both customer service line and people at the counter were very unhelpful and uncaring about the situation they created for us. We wasted an Uber ride from the airport to the pickup site and then had to go back to the airport to get a car from another company. Will never use Hertz again.Reviewed 5 Sept 2024

When we arrived to pick up the car, after waiting in the queue for 30 minutes were told that they didn't have one available. The lady at the desk said that we could try the airport office which would require us to book a second taxi. I asked if she could phone them first to check if they had a car available she advised that there was no point as they would be busy so wouldn't answer the phone anway. Being stranded we took the second taxi to the airport where the Hertz desk was not busy at all , theren was nobody queueing at all. I explained the situation to the lady at the desk who could not have been less interested or helpful. She simply gave me the customer service number to ring to change the booking, she also declined my request to call for me.. I phoned the customer service number and got recored message advising that there would be a 10 minute with time. After 30 minutes my wife asked the still not busy lady if there she could help, met with the same complete indifference. After a further 20 minutes we decided to get a car from Avis. This is not the first time that Hertz have let us down on this trip. On a previous rental a metal cover under the car came loose and ws noisily dragging on the ground. We.phone the assistance number and were told that someone would be with us in 2 hours. After 3 hours when I called again I was told that nobody was coming and nor would they be as they had nobody covering the area we were in. By this time shops and garages were shut so we had to stay in a nearby motel and then bought some cable ties in the morning and crawled under the car myself to effect an emergency repair. The service and care we have received from Hertz has been th worst of any company of any kind that I have ever dealt with and the staff at the 2 Memphis offices the lest helpful and interested of any front desk staff I have ever come across.Reviewed 14 Jul 2024
