Tried to con me out of gasCons:So many rental companies let you rent the car and "bring it back with the gas that's in it". I guess I shouldn't have assumed this was the case. I was never told about the gas, but to protect myself, I took a photo of the mileage and the gas level when I left -- it was under a half of a tank. Sure enough, they tried to charge me because I brought it back 7/8 full instead of completely full. Keep in mind this is MORE gas than I left with. Reluctantly they marked it as returned "full" so I'm sure the next person got charged for it.Reviewed 6 Mar 2017

Such a dump - didn't even follow through with rentalPros:Their shuttle service seemed dependable and the drivers were very niceCons:This place looked SO sketchy and when we got there there was a long line of people that were grumbling about having been waiting a very long time. I waited maybe 10 minutes in the line, and after observing no movement due to what appeared to be frustrating check ins (and maybe one check out?) I realized that this place was not probably going to have the same standards for transparency in their fees and policies as the other bigger rental companies that I usually work with. Frankly, I didn't wait any longer. I got on the app and just booked a cheaper, better car through Alamo, took the shuttle back and moved on with my day.Reviewed 23 Jul 2017

Cons:I never actually received my rental. When I went to the counter at Tampa airport there were over 20 people in line and only one counter agent. After waiting 30 minutes and hardly moving I got out of line and rented from someone else. I knew I would forfeit my prepaid amount, but it was worth it. Car companies should realize the amount of rentals they have book for certain periods of time and be staffed accordingly. I will never rent from Fox again nor will I ever book again from Kayak if this can happen on a pre-paid agreement.Reviewed 14 Dec 2020

Cons:Our plane schedule changed so we arrived an hour and a half early. This ending up costing an additional $43.00. We asked about tolls and were told that we would encounter several as we went south. We asked about paying cash when we reached the toll check points and were told that we could only do this online. So we paid the $11.00/day toll to have toll protection. The tolls had options to pay cash as you went through so ended up paying an additional $80.00 (8 x 11 - the actual tolls we paid). Finally, this is peculiar to this airport, we could not find a gas station for which we had allowed ample time so we were charged $7.00/gallon to fill the tank.Reviewed 8 Dec 2020

Pros:Drop off was fineCons:Waited in line an hour and 15 minutes with 2 dozen other people to get my car that was already prepaid online. Took another 15 minutes to re-fill out paperwork at the desk only to find out they didn't have my SUV. They gave me some sorry excuse for a vehicle stating "that's all they had", so I had to take it. Vehicle was filthy, smelled like smoke inside and 2 of the hand handles were broken. I made a complaint and was told someone would get back to me...I'm still waiting. Pros:I pre-paid for the van online through Kayak and arrived at the Tampa Airport location on time to pick up the van. The 1st question I was asked when I arrived was " Are you traveling out of the state?". I said Yes, as I was helping my son move items from his Northern VA home. I was told by the FOX rep that I could not use their van out of the state, and they would not let me take the van. I did not see anywhere on the website, when I pre-paid for the trip of the out of state travel restriction because if I had, I would have never booked the van with FOX. The FOX rep told that I was the 5th client that day that he had to tell this to and all 5 of them were upset, understandably. The FOX rep told me to go to Alamo as they had vans that would allow me to travel out of the state with. I have booked dozens of trips and vans over the years and I have never had anything like this restriction happen before. When I asked the FOX rep for a refund he smiled and said he could not handle that and I had go through Price Line since I had booked the van through them, via Kayak. I went over to Alamo and paid almost double the price than I had paid through FOX and I was able to go out of the state. As a matter of fact, they never even asked me about it. When I returned from my trip, I called Price Line only to be told that I had booked a non-refundable van and they would not refund me the money paid for the van through FOX. With the financial hardships of Covid 19 I am shocked that this scam is being perpetrated. I would appreciate some assistance in this situation as I had stated before if they had disclosed on the website of the travel restriction I would have never pre-paid and booked the van through FOX.Cons:Yes, help me get a full refund on the FOX pre-paid van. I can provide proof of the Alamo van paid receipt if needed form that day. With the Covid-19 financial hardships we have all had to endure this bait and switch scam should not be allowed. Please let me know asap, as I will pursue this matter with the Pinellas County District Attorney's office and the Florida State Attorney's office if it does not get resolved in a timely matter.Reviewed 2 Sep 2020

Cons:Our flight was on a 2 hour delay in Akron, so I called the Fox car rental place to make sure my 10pm prepaid reservation was ok and they put me on hold for an hour to tell me “everything was going to be ok, they hold my car for 12 hours and as long as I get there before 1am when they close it will be ok”. Our plane landed in Tampa at 11:30, and I ran straight to the rental car place. The Fox rental desk was closed and said go straight to the garage. I get to the garage and the guy says “we ran out of cars at 11, I don’t know what to tell you, you can either come back in the morning or try enterprise or Alamo”. I checked them and they had ones for the reservations they had. They apologized but they actually hold cars for their reservations. They suggest I get an Uber and contact the enterprise near my rental. So we called the Uber and had no clue how to get out of the car rental center. You think it would be easy except, the tram that takes you to the car rental center closed for the night. We found a elevator in the back corner of it to take us to the back of the building and had the Uber driver pick us up there. Luckily we had an awesome Uber driver (Ariel) that was very understanding, We took an Uber to our rental and finally got to bed at 3am. When I called Fox, the cus to met service person was rude and said you have to call Priceline. I called Priceline and they said ithey had to call Fox to confirm I didn’t get the car, they came back on the phone and said Fox wasn’t answering at this time and it can be up to 10 days. When I got my refund, it didn’t include the 80 dollars for insurance. So now I am out $80 for insurance for a car they didn’t even have for me, $130 dollars for the Uber to my rental and my rental car was $200 dollars more than what Fox quoted me. Pros:The drop off was quick and easy.Cons:Long, slow line to get car. Waited at counter with Fox associate for over an hour with little explanation of why I was just standing there watching him move his mouse around. I made a reservation three weeks earlier, paid in full. He said he was waiting for a car. He offered me an upgrade. I asked if that would be for the same price, he said no I would have to pay the difference. Finally, a car in my range was becoming available. I go to the pick up area and was told it was being washed. Waited some more. Car was backed into a parking spot dripping wet. I had to pull the car up to get the hatch to open for our luggage. Driving through Tampa the low washer fluid light came on. A couple of days later a tire low pressure light came on. The price savings on the rental was not worth the time and frustration.
