Did not receive the class of car I booked onlineCons:I booked a mid size car and received a tiny little compact car, I would never rent from dollar again, the sales agent had no desire to resolve the situation for me and was only interested in trying to add a bunch of expensive items to my rental and hoping I would not notice, then when I did trying to keep them on. Couldn't even get that carCons:That had all these additional charges that were not mentioned on site that they wanted us to pay at the counter. And all they wanted to do at the counter was blame KAYAK they said if you had booked from our website you would of known it because you booked through a 3rd party they didn't tell you. He kept walking away from us at the counter and every time he came back he wanted to add a fee onto our rental. They wanted to run credit checks just so I could pay for the car which has never happened with any other rental company I've delt with before. Ended up getting so frustrated that we cancelled the car and took the shuttle really but a strain on our whole trip so ridiculous.Reviewed 27 Sep 2016

Pros:When we went to pick up the car, Dollar did not have one for us. The man working Customer service was very rude and did nothing to help with the situation. We were not the only family who did not get a car. We had to get a hotel which we were not planning on doing, we were driving to stay with originally. We had to take a uber to a hotel. We had to take a uber back to the airport in the morning to get a car. That ruined the first day of out trip. We started out very late and it was very frustrating because we had plans with multiple families. Basically we booked a car ahead of time. Lost a day of our vacation with all the back and forth. We paid for a day of a car that we never got. We paid for a night in a hotel.Cons:We booked through your site to save money. We paid for a car that we did not get the first day. We had to pay to stay in a hotel that we were not planning on. We lost a day of our vacation running back and forth. I would like to be refunded for the first day of my car, That we never got. I would also like to be refunded for the Hotel we had to stay in on account of there being no car available. It was truly a disaster.Reviewed 22 Feb 2021

Pros:Good morning, I wrote a review recently and was told I could give more information here. After landing at TPA on 12-27-20 I went to pick up my car. What I found was a line with more than 200 people being waited on by two agents. I flew down here for a family emergency. There was no way I could wait the 5 hours they anticipated it would take to get a car. I had to Uber to the hospital and the hotel because of this. I rented from Dollar because I thought it was a reputable brand. Looks like I was very wrong. I'm am asking for a full refund for the total breakdown in how you operate your business.Cons:Unless this is resolved I would never use Dollar or Kayak again.Reviewed 31 Dec 2020

Zero. No carsCons:I had made a reservation for a car in Tampa for about 6pm on a Monday night 3/6/17. When I arrived the Dollar line was about 20 people deep and the word in the line was that there were no cars. As I creeped to the front of the line I found that indeed there were no cars available and it was going to be a 2-6 hour wait (and that there were about 23 people ahead of me waiting) for a car. Because of prior commitments, I was unable to wait the 2-6 hours and instead had to get a rental last minute with a competing company at a cost of about five times as much as I had booked for with Dollar for the same time period. It was a huge disappointment and expense, aside from just being an incredible hassle.Reviewed 10 Mar 2017

Cons:Even though we had prepaid reservations we were standing in a line with walk ups for over a 1/2 hour. They had two representatives who were taking a long time talking with walkups about options of insurance and others. Should have had separate lines for reservations. After checking in went to another line to pick up cars. After standing in line again for over 1/2 hour we were informed that they were out of cars. We waited as the three people in front of us finally got cars. We got a car that had just been returned. The gas tank wasn’t totally filled but we were not going to complain. It took an hour and a half to pickup a car that we had reserved. The car we got was good and drove well.Reviewed 14 Mar 2021

Total rip offCons:I chose the option of refueling myself, but was unable to stop at a gas station -- was coming from south on 275 & the exit took me right into the airport - was worried it would take too long to then exit the airport to try to find gas. This happened before with another company, and they charged a reasonable price for gas - close to the going rate. Dollar rental charged $9.99 a gallon!! It cost me $72 for half a tank of gas!! They said it was in the contract, however no one called my attention to the price when i rented the car, as they absolutely should have. I will NEVER do business with them again!!Reviewed 1 Jul 2017

Pros:The car provided was very conformable and economical.Cons:It took me over 30 mins to find the pick-up location since the address listed is not correct. Once I finally found an Enterprises both, I stood in line there for 20 mins just to be told I was in the wrong line. Once I got to the correct location, it went smother. Only other complaint that I have is about the gas rate. I was going to return the car with over 3/4 of gas and they wanted to charge me $44. I took the car back out and filled up for $13 and returned the car. If they charged a reasonable amount per gallon, it would have saved me this hassle.Reviewed 22 Nov 2015

Horrible Customer ServiceCons:Waited in line for 20 minutes waiting for the 4 customer service people to do something as they stared at the line of customers. Listened to a customer service rep tell a customer that they should just leave because he just couldn't help him. Customer Reps all had attitudes before the lines began. Our turn and the customer service rep with sarcastic attitude, said since we were early we would have to wait 3 hours...they were out of cars.. when my husband (who is a seasoned traveler) said we could just go to Enterprise, our customer service rep said "go ahead"!! and he repeated several times "you are more than welcome to go somewhere else" If we were not in need at that time and could wait for another company to get a car for us we would have walked away right then. When we said we would take a car that was not cleaned.. all of a sudden the car that we had reserved was suddenly in the parking lot, washed and gassed up ready to go.. hmmmmm. In all of our travels we have NEVER been treated like this by any other car company. The car was fine and it was clean and in great shape... Pros:Drop off was easy but I never got the emailed bill I was promised.Cons:The brakes on the car were iffy, the inside was dirty, there was pink chalk on the outside window that got all over my shirt, there was an error message that kept coming on on the dash board and the radio didn’t work with Bluetooth. My parents were so worried about the brakes in the car, they wouldn’t let us drive it. I only drove the car from the airport and back to the airport. It was a waste of money for me. I had to uber everywhere or ask my parents for a ride. I won’t use kayak or dollar car rental again.Reviewed 2 Nov 2020

"Discount" rental is really a rip-offCons:The advertised price was not honored by the company when I arrived at the airport. The add-ons that were seemingly 'required' made the cost the same (if not more) than any other rental agency. With every extra detail invented by the slimy person behind the counter, there were more charges ending up on my bill. And when I would complain, then he would pretend to do me a favor: "well, I'll enter my special employee code and see if I can get that reduced for you...". It was a sham, but I had no choice. I would recommend against this place. And I would recommend printing, completely reading, and pointing out the online agreement to the rental agency in case you get stuck with a place like this and a horrible sales person yourself.Reviewed 17 Oct 2016
