Pros:Car was fine once we got itCons:Way overpriced, no value for money spent. TPA rental car a complete mess. Thrifty shares counter with Hertz and Dollar. Only 2 people on staff to handle multiple arrivals at 10p. Wait was 30mins in line to get processed and then another 20mins to get a car at the garage. Didn’t need to waste an hour after a long flight and crying kids. Return was no better, no staff at return just a sign to leave keys in car. Would have been more tolerable had I not paid $640 for a 4 day rental. Like I said zero value for what I paidReviewed 16 Feb 2021

Wouldn't use this company againPros:Timely and easy to locate (at airport)Cons:1) Car reeked of smoke once it sat in the sun & the compartment between the front seats had sticky stuff coating on the bottom with change stuck in it. 2) We were told at check-in that EACH toll we crossed would result in a $15 administrative penalty plus the toll costs (no change tolls exist in FL) - or would could buy their inclusive policy for $50+ that would cover tolls for the week. When asked why this wasn't part of their fee disclosure, the rep said it's because we booked third-party via the internet & they don't give consumers the same info. as the company would if booked directly. EXPENSIVE and CLUELESSPros:The guy who handed me the keys and gave me CLEAR directions at the pick up window was great! He knew where I was going and understood my concern about tolls etc. because he asked me what my concerns were and where I was going...Imagine that, a person in customer service type job who ASKS the customer what their concerns are and offers sound and concise direction. A solid employee who listened, reacted, directed and wished me well. Thats what its all about.Cons:The gal who handled my reservation was CLUELESS and gave ZERO direction. She did not ask questions and gave poor and inaccurate instruction regarding GPS in the vehicle and gave no clear and concise instruction on how to avoid tolls since there was no sunpass in the van. She NEEDS training or perhaps a different job. The drop off was another mess...The signs CLEARLY say drive up to a line yet there was NOBODY there directing the returning customers to do so. When I did so I waited 10 minutes before anybody came to check my vehicle out despite there being at least 8 people working. A TOTAL cluster of utter incompetence.Reviewed 12 Dec 2017

Excellent and poorPros:Excellent service at pick up. Courteous, helpful, friendly. Car was very cleanCons:Drop off. Waited with car 15 minutes before man came out to car drop off area. He walked past me (I was first car in line). Did not acknowledge me. I called out to him to ask if I could check in. He told me to go into office and wait. I chose to stay with car as I had no proof I had turned it in. When he came back by he looked at mileage and walked away (I assumed to office, could not see it at that point). I took the keys with me and gave them to him once he checked me in. Unfriendly, seemed like I was bothering him.Reviewed 31 Aug 2016

Up until the endPros:The customer service agent during pickup was awesome. She was warm and friendly. Great experience there.Cons:The drop off was cold. I saw an attendant and said "hi" then asked her if there was a key drop box because I was not familiar with Thrifty's return process. She responded with "they're getting to me." The attendant made it appear that she was annoyed by my arrival to return the vehicle. Not sure if customer service classes are included with their training but, if it isn't then it should be incorporated. Like any business, this experience will weigh heavily on my choice to become a repeat customer.Reviewed 25 Mar 2017

Un-helpful with lost walletPros:Easy returnCons:When getting car, attendant was trying to up-sell rather than give information. On day 2, we found a wallet and 2 water bottles in car. I called 800 number and was told to drive to airport care rental, I asked to be connected to them and they said they could not give me the telephone number. They connected me and I got voice mail and left message. I never heard back. Poor consumer service to me and then person who left wallet in car. Feel Ripped OffPros:Actually like the car...a HundaiCons:The cost!! Booked online with a $440+ Including fees (which are the worst anywhere!!). Our Flight was delayed a day and called to advise when we would be in...representative said we would get a credit for a day. When got to airport in the evening only one person able to help Thrifty and Dollar customers. ....she saw the notes for the call, but said we had 24 hours to pick up car and hence no credit?! Then we were advised if traveling in South Florida had to have Sunrise pass or would be charged penalty every time used toll roads. That was another $10 a day...now somehow the bill was going to be over $800...it looked like we were charged fees all over again!! Our final price was over $600....very unhappy...felt taken advantage of!!Reviewed 7 Apr 2017

Thrifty is famous for bait and switch tacticsPros:Pick up at the terminal is really nice.Cons:They never have the class of car available that you booked. When you tell them you'll downgrade and go 'cheaper', they'll tell you those cars aren't available and cost more too. Then they try to upsell you into a full size car (at a discount) but doubles your initial rate and defeats the whole purpose of a good kayak discount. This is the 2nd or 3rd time in a row this has happened to me. Also, TPA is the most costly rental car location I've ever seen. My rental for two days was only $52, however, there was $40 in additional airport fees and taxes! Outrageous.Reviewed 20 Nov 2016

Tacked on extra toll charge - wouldn't remove.Pros:Car was great.Cons:Tacked on a $71 "mandatory" toll charge. Said we would have to request to remove it when returning the car. Refused to remove the toll charge when we return the car (we went through 1 auto toll); said we'd have to call and complain. We called Thrifty several times and were told this charge was something we had agreed to when we rented the car even though it was not on our original quote. When asked to talk to a manager we were transferred then disconnected; we recalled Thrifty 3 more times, each time we were transferred to a "nonworking" number. Easily duped into paying 60% above my quoted/confiPros:The vehicle was fine. The price would have been a good value for the money exept...Cons:First time I had used Kayak to reserve a car. Kayak's reservation made it really easy to add an additional driver. However, it did not highlight the fact that there would be large charges to add a driver. (yes, it was in the fine print at the bottom :( It put the reservation in the add'l driver's name, not mine, so we at first ended up being told I had not reservation. In the end we ended up paying nearly twice the amount quoted on my reservation confirmation. The Thrifty agent made no mention of the large additional fees, and we missed it until after we returned the car. Not a great reservation/customer service experience. Never againCons:Whenevet I travel with my husband we always use National Car Rental. Never have trouble and I should have stayed with what I know! I was trying to find something a little less expensive and decided to use kayak. I was traveling with a neighbor and were told to stay away from Dollar Rental so I booked Thrifty. Come to find out they are the same company and now I know why she made steered us away from them! Our $180 car rental turned into $490 when it was all done. We did upgrade our vehicle to an SUV but that only $15/day for the five days we had the car. They scam you with the insurance, which come to find out we never needed because our own insurance company would have covered any problems. They tell you that even if you have your own insurance if something happens to the car you are reasonable for the daily rental fee (at full price) for each day the car is being repaired. When in fact, our insurance car company would cover all of that. I did not do enough research for partly my fault but I will never rent with Thrifty (or Dollar) again. The agents were rude and not the least bit helpful. We traveled with 16 families and three others who used Thrifty had nothing good to say.Reviewed 3 May 2017
