COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from New Zealand must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departing to the United Kingdom.

Details and exceptions

Travelers from the Common Travel Area (the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Ascension, Falkland Islands and St Helena), will not be in scope of the regulations. Children under the age of 11 will also not be required to complete pre-departure testing.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from New Zealand will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering the United Kingdom.

The isolation period can be shortened

After 5 days of quarantine at the earliest, travelers can get a PCR or antigen test. If the test is negative, travelers do not need to quarantine further.

Details and exceptions

Travelers arriving in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland who have been in the Red Listed countries in the last 10 days are required to book and pay for a Managed Quarantine Package prior to travel. On arrival, they must quarantine for 10 days at a government quarantine hotel and take 2 COVID-19 tests during the quarantine. Travelers going to Wales should follow rules from their designated ports of entry in England or Scotland.

People who were vaccinated in the UK do not have to quarantine.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from the United Kingdom must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to New Zealand.

Details and exceptions

Children under 2 years of age; travelers from Australia; Antarctica; and most Pacific islands; including the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu; and a person who cannot take a test due to medical reason (must provide a medical certificate stating that a test cannot be taken due to medical reasons but do not have symptoms) are exempt from the test.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from the United Kingdom will need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering New Zealand.

Details and exceptions

Travelers to New Zealand from all countries, except eligible passengers from a quarantine-free travel zone (Australia, Cook Islands and Niue) must complete a 14-day stay in a managed isolation or quarantine facility.

Quarantine-free travel in New South Wales and Queensland are temporary suspended until further notice.
