Saudi Arabia entry details and exceptions

Travelers must have valid tourism visa obtained before arrival. Visa on arrival remains suspended for health and safety reasons They must also have COVID 19 insurance. This insurance is included in all new tourism visa issues. If you are entering on a previously issued tourism visa, you will need to pay an additional fee of SAR 40 at the airport on arrival to cover insurance for any COVID-19 related medical expenses.

All visitors arriving in the country with a valid tourism visa must provide evidence of a full course of one the four vaccines currently recognized: two doses of the Oxford/Astra Zeneca, Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or a single dose of the vaccine produced by Johnson and Johnson.Guests who have completed two doses of the Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines will be accepted if they have received an additional dose of one of the four vaccines approved in the Kingdom.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from New Zealand must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Saudi Arabia.

Details and exceptions

Upon entry to Saudi Arabia, all travelers, including Saudi Arabians (except children who are 8 years old and below) are required to undergo two (2) PCR tests. The first test must be taken within 24 hours on arrival and the second test must be on the 7th day from the date of entry to the country.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from New Zealand will need to quarantine for 5 days upon entering Saudi Arabia.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions

Unvaccinated travelers of any age must undertake a five day period of institutional quarantine in a designated hotel. Quarantine will be lifted upon a negative PCR result on the fifth day after arrival.

Travelers are advised to book the quarantine package through the airline on which they are arriving. For your convenience, you should check the current entry requirements with your chosen airline before purchasing a ticket.

Health Practitioners; Health supply chain workers; Travelers under 8 years old, Holders of a diplomatic visa; Fully-vaccinated Saudi Arabia citizens and residents who received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Saudi Arabia are not required to quarantine.

Non-Saudi nationals holding Tourist Visas are allowed to enter the Kingdom during COVID-19 pandemic if they completed the required doses of one of the COVID-19 vaccines approved by Saudi Ministry of Health and have successfully registered on the "Arrival Registration" Platform.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Saudi Arabia must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departure to New Zealand.

Details and exceptions

Exemptions apply to the following:

1. Children who are under two years of age.

2. Individuals who can present a medical certificate verifying they have been examined no earlier than 72 hours prior to departure and have been determined to be unable to undertake a test for medical reasons but do not exhibit symptoms of COVID-19

3. Individuals with past (recovered) cases of COVID-19 who have a positive 72 hour or less test result, but have a medical certificate for showing that the individual is no longer considered by a medical practitioner to be infectious with COVID-19

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Saudi Arabia will need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering New Zealand.

Details and exceptions

Travelers to New Zealand from all countries, except eligible passengers from a quarantine-free travel zone (Niue and Cook Islands), must complete a 14-day stay in a managed isolation or quarantine facility.

Quarantine-free travel for Australian passengers are temporary suspended until further notice.
