Bulgaria entry details and exceptions

Restrictions in going to Bulgaria depend on the color zone of the country where the travelers are arriving from.

Travelers arriving from GREEN COUNTRIES may opt to quarantine for 10 days in lieu of presenting a valid EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate (EU DCC) or any document containing the same data as EU DCC. The quarantine may be revoked by providing via e-mail a negative result of a PCR test for the detection of COVID-19 carried out within 24 hours of entry into the country or by a rapid antigen test.

Travelers arriving from ORANGE COUNTRIES are required to present a valid EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate (EU DCC) or any document containing the same data as EU DCC.

Travelers coming from the "RED COUNTRIES" are allowed to enter Bulgaria provided that they are Bulgarian citizens, long term residents or permanent residents of Bulgaria, EU/EEA and Swiss Confederation citizens and family members of EU/EEA and Swiss Confederation citizens.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated visitors from New Zealand must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Bulgaria.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions

Children up to the age of 12 are exempt from submitting COVID-19 documents.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors from New Zealand are not required to quarantine after entering Bulgaria.

Permitted travelers arriving from the RED COUNTRIES need to complete the 10-day quarantine.

Travelers from Great Britain who can only provide a negative result of PCR test will be required to undergo a 10-day quarantine.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Bulgaria must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departure to New Zealand.

Details and exceptions

Exemptions apply to the following:

1. Children who are under two years of age.

2. Individuals who can present a medical certificate verifying they have been examined no earlier than 72 hours prior to departure and have been determined to be unable to undertake a test for medical reasons but do not exhibit symptoms of COVID-19

3. Individuals with past (recovered) cases of COVID-19 who have a positive 72 hour or less test result, but have a medical certificate for showing that the individual is no longer considered by a medical practitioner to be infectious with COVID-19

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Bulgaria will need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering New Zealand.

Travelers to New Zealand from all countries, except eligible passengers from a quarantine-free travel zone (Niue and Cook Islands), must complete a 14-day stay in a managed isolation or quarantine facility.

Quarantine-free travel for Australian passengers are temporary suspended until further notice.
