I was able to meet up with my son who flew them from SFO and fly on to Cambodia together. Guangzhou airport is stellar, clean, spacious, and transit was comfortable. Will flutter again with confidence."

In spite of me asking the crew to contact China Southern in Guanzough, no assistance was given. 'Service' by China Southern in Guanzough was NON-EXISTENT! We missed our flight to Kual Lumpur --where we had a driver waiting, a hotel for 2 nights, and a tour the next day. We lost ALL of those and did not arrive in Kuala Lumpur until 2PM the next day. Timing was CRITICAL that we be in Kuala Lumpur the night before per the schedule. China Southern served no beer or liquor on their international flight --only cheap wine in the smallest plastic glasses I have ever seen."

Cons: "I was flying to Delhi & it was an emergency situation for me bcz i lost my Dad & i was flying to perform the cremation of my Dad. And thing this was informed to the China Southern officials so that they could arrange something for me. I requested them to put me into another flight for which i was ready to pay the whole amount but no one listen to my request & i had to wait so long. I was amazed to see that no one was keen to understand my problem at both he airports i.e. Auckland Airport & Ganzhaou Airport. Apart from this the behavior of your officials was so rude & arrogant it made me feel as if i was a slave or some kind of culprit. Due to the ignorance & laid back attitude on your part i couldn't reach my destination on my time. Seriously it took me "24 hrs Extra" to reach my destination & as a result of which i couldn't perform the cremation. I was pissed off by the service; complete ignorance by the staff/officials of ur airlines. I wasn't expecting this kind of treatment from a reputed company like you. I request you guys to look into this matter seriously and try to take some corrective measures so that this thing won't happen in future with someone else."

Cons: "There was no way to charge a phone or electronic device. I had set up my phone with hours of movies and tv shows that I could watch on the plane. I thought that this was truly unacceptable to not have the option to charge a device for a 15 hour flight. There was an in-flight entertainment system, however my sound did not work so I could not listen to anything and there was not options for english subtitles. There were also no current movies or shows available. I was very disappointed in the options for entertainment on such a long flight. I am only 5'4 and I found my knees hitting the seat in front of me when they were reclined which was a majority of the fight. It was very uncomfortable. Food and drink service was far and few between, I hate bothering them for water but there was enough available or disseminated throughout the flight. and Not sure if it was the food, the turbulence or a combination of both, but many people were nauseous and vomiting on the plane. There were not bags readily available for those people to vomit in and the back of the plane and lavatories ended up being out of service due to uncleanliness."

There wasn't a vegetarian option so I was given just bread to eat twice on a 15 hour flight. To top it all off, the airline worker at check in forced my companion to pay $150 to gate check her guitar (which has always counted as carry on thru other airlines), and then at the gate she was told she couldn't check it and that she was to bring it on the plane as we originally intended. We noticed she was the only person given any trouble and the only black person.....all in all, a terrible experience."

I really love how the carts in the airport to push your luggage around were free. in America there's $6. Pros: "The aircraft looked newer. Toilet was a bit roomier & appeared generally cleaner compared to same flights I’ve taken before. Seat in economy seemed more comfortable. I asked for aisle seats with no problem. On one leg, asked for premium seat (more leg room) & was provided with no problem. Noise level seemed lower. Snacks were at the galley when needed. Food was generally good (I usually feel nauseous with smell of airline food, but didn’t feel it). On one leg, asked for just fruits (instead of the regular meal), & attendant offered 2 apples (apparently personally brought by an attendant)."

Cons: "1. Uncomfortable boarding at JFK: Had to go out in the cold to ride a BUS to the airplane: Why can't they use a BRIDGE like everyone else? Since our first leg was from, and our lest leg was to, very warm places, we were not prepared for the sub-freezing conditions. 2. Horrible flight delay: JFK to CAN: Cancellation of flight CZ600, 12/31/17, followed by TEN-hour delay leaving JFK, was beyond traumatic. Airplane had to be fixed, but it should not have taken that long to find a solution. Passenger care was horrible: Initially we sat on the tarmac for 4 hours, then transferred to a waiting station with almost no heat and no access to rest rooms or food."

Cons: "I had booked the free hotel for when you have more than 8 hours on the layover. I got to the airport to find that because I didn’t have a US passport, I couldn’t take advantage of the hotel, although my wife who is American, could have chosen to. So we stayed for 9 hours in the airport, and then boarded another 10 hour flight to NZ. It would have been useful to know the limitations, and maybe even get some kind of voucher for food or a lounge from the airline since they could have told me about the passport restrictions."

Cons: "1. The flight from LAX to Goungzhou was 1 hour late. We were all in the plane by 10 PM and the plane was to leave at 10:30 PM. It left 11:30 with all the passengers sitting on the plane for 1 1/2 hours! The delay made the rush to make it to the next flight in Guangzhou was stressful and exhausting. 2. I reserved an aisle seat beforehand because medical issue that require frequent trip to the rest room. The reservation person told me that I would have a window seat on the 2nd floor but no one is seated next to me. That was not the case. There was a person beside me that had to be disturbed frequently for my rest room trips. And this was a 15 hour trip."

Cons: "Boarding of the A380 was ridiculous. We were lined up well ahead of boarding, then moved to another line, then moved again. Once we were lined up we had to stop and start, other people were pushed to the front again and again. This could have been solved by leaving one lane free for people sitting upstairs, or 'preferred' fliers. Instead everyone was pushed back and had to wait. I've never seen an aeroplane boarded so badly and we ended up being some of the last people on the plane. Badly organised and just plain awful."

Pros: "If you have a carry on bag only, then this airline is fine. If you have to check your bag, I would suggest not even considering it. I have flown this airline for the last 8 years in business travel, with no issues. For some reason in the last two years, the level of efficiency in baggage transporting has tanked. In the last 3 trips, my-or my colleague's bags have been lost FIVE TIMES. One time it took FOUR days (on a 6 day trip) to get our luggage, this time we received our luggage 2 hours before departing for the airport to head home. Unfortunately this is one of the few airlines that actually flies the route we need to take. I'll revise my entire trip to avoid taking this airline in the future."
Cons: "Delayed my initial flight 5 hours due to "weather" which was a rainstorm in which other planes of all sizes were landing and taking off. The storm would have been avoided had the plane been on time to begin with. Missed my connection and then had to argue with the manager for 2+ hours just to get a flight that wasn't a full 24 hours away. Was then told that they couldn't upgrade my seat because the flight was full, both business and premium economy had empty rows of seats. Throughout the experience China Southern employees lied to me and did everything possible to make the process harder. Had multiple employees just walk away from me without helping. Will never fly China Southern ever again."

Ridiculous that it was "for security reasons," but I could pay more money (cost of an entirely different flight) to bypass the protocols. I ended up getting a ticket from United that cost less than what China Southern was asking me to pay to get onto the flight that I had already paid for... My takeaway from this is use websites like these to find airlines that are offering cheap flights and then just go to them directly to buy the tickets. Easier to deal with flight changes that way."

Pros: "Our first flight was canceled. After 6 or 7 phone calls and several emails to China Southern support we were rebooted on China Eastern only they messed up our new reservations by swapping our passport numbers. Spent the whole day sorting it out, but made our flight. On the way back, the flight left an hour late and when we landed nobody was allowed to disembark. After two hours without any information in English (once we landed the flight attendants stopped translating announcements) we were allowed to get off the plane without any explaination. During that time my wife and I paged the crew more than a dozen times and nobody ever came to see what was going on. We will avoid China Southern in the future."

Cons: "After arriving at Guangzhou, we had to take a bus from the plane to the airport. It was more than cramped. Instead of having another bus, they made us all get on the same bus, which had to be more than 100 people. Only a five minute ride, but we also had to wait for all the passengers to board the bus, so it was more like 10-15 minutes of being cramped in the bus. It would also be nice if we could use our phones on China Southern flights. They have a rule that your phone must be off for the duration of the flight, even if in airplane mode. A little annoying when I had planned on working on some accounting for my business during the flight, most of which was logged on my phone app."

Cons: "I Had a horrible experience with both my flight to Thailand and back to the US. On my way there, there were 2 women involved in heated verbal altercation ( although I do not understand Chinese but their tone of voice and body language speak for itself ). The stewardess did not do anything to defuse the situation. It took another passenger to offer to switch seat with one of the woman. Then came a toddler crying all the way to China. The horrible part of the thailand flight was that I was not being inform in San Francisco that I had to pick up my luggage , check in to get my boarding pass and then go through custom again. I know I should not be complaining considering the cheap fare, but I still expected a little more from this airline."

Cons: "They bumped up our flight by FOUR HOURS and never notified us! When we got to airport early, there was absolutely no China Southern staff to be found. Ourselves and some other people who were in the same predicament had to fight to get out of there after we were redirected to other airline staff. They finally threw us on a flight to Bangkok (not part of our plan) and we had to roam around the Bangkok airport searching for the China Southern business office. When we finally found it, we spoke to a woman who apologized for the "inconvenience" couldn't explain why we were never notified of the flight change, and didn't seem to understand why we were upset. She also refused to let us speak to her manager. She told us it was the responsibility of the online travel site we purchased through to pass along any changes in schedule, but when we both called our respective online companies, they told us it was the airline's responsibility. The China Southern check-in counter only opened 2 hours before boarding, so we had to sit on the floor outside for 4 hours before we could even enter the airport. They re-booked us on all of their later flights, so we had long layovers, much later flights, and all got home a day later than we planned. All in all, it was the most stressful, unhappy travel experience I have ever had. I will never fly this airline again, and I would discourage anyone else from it."

Cons: "Seats had no padding, extremely uncomfortable. Diarrhea, abdominal cramps from eggs served on flight. Fever, abdominal cramps. Regurgitating.It was the only food I have had in past 38 hours. The lighting was dim when the food was served, as I was eating the lighting came to full intensity. I was able to see a blue tint to the eggs. I had consumed 50% of the meal. Both flights I had, leaving China, were late. If Southwest had failed to hold the flight from L.A. to Albuquerque, I would have spent the night at LAX. We were 2+ hours late to LAX."

Pros: "my flight was canceled after being delayed for 4 hr last evening and they put us up in a Chinese fleebag place [no bottled water; no kleenix, no phone] and awoke us at 5:45 to get on the bus to catch the 9 am flight, which itself was delayed 112 min. Airline personal said they would tell us what flight we were to talke, but this never occurred and I had to fend for my self t get re-checked in. A security guard really helped me. Airline personal said we could get out checked bad at the hotel, but not even a remote option."

Cons: "I have never encountered a more unkind and discourteous customer service experience. The flight attendants were irascible and unfriendly - giving little care to the experience of the passenger. Mediocre food and VERY little space in the economy cabin for a long international flight made this a miserable experience. Flight was delayed for hours without any voucher or compensation for meals when I missed a connection (a total delay of 20 hours). The delay may have been unavoidable, but the lack of communication and customer empathy is inexcusable. A terrible experience - my first and last with this awful airline."
Pros: "it was cheaper than others, which is why i took it. the crew was less interested in good customer service than many other airlines, though they were polite if you asked them for anything. huge double decker airplane, not much turbulence, decent entertainment system. food was good enough but nothing fantastic. seats were fairly small for a 12 hour flight. i'm not very big myself so i can't imagine how some others might have felt. i wouldn't say that there was anything very bad about the airline or the flight, but there wasn't anything great either. very mediocre."

The screens are large (though the selection of recent films is somewhat poor) and honestly I thought it was more spacious than international flights usually are in economy. Good news is I was able to sleep. I thought food was fine but the Americans next to me clearly weren't familiar with airline food or Chinese food generally..."

We ended up departing late because of the aforementioned bottle neck but China Eastern should not have announced the final boarding call so soon."

The crew was nice and there was a good selection of games and movies if you couldn’t sleep."

Pros: "The plane from LAX to Shanghai-Pudong was very nice and modern. It was a Boeing 777-300ER and was pretty comfortable in economy class with individual monitors behind each headrest. The entertainment on board was very good. The food was mediocre at best, but for the price point I have absolutely no regrets. The stewardess that was in our section was very cold but not unfriendly. We had a brief layover in Shanghai before heading to Seoul Incheon. The plane from Shanghai to Seoul was an older Airbus 330. It was pretty outdated and my armrest next to the window seat was actually half missing. Overall though, I was pleasantly surprised that they served a meal on the fight, and the flight attendants on this fight were much more friendlier than the previous international route. One recommendation is that China Eastern not post the production date on their bread rolls. There was a Korean passenger in front of me who thought the bread was expired and it caused a commotion on the plane. I was very impressed by how the attendants handled the situation. They were very friendly and even the head flight attendant came by to apologize although it was not needed."
Cons: "Cold flight attendants. The attendants did their jobs, but I felt like they were there to collect their paychecks not to provide world class service or be friendly. (LAX to Shanghai) Very spotty Wi-Fi in Shanghai (not the airlines fault). Food was not memorable. I was missing a large piece of my armrest from Shanghai to Seoul."

Guangzhou to Beijing - nice plane, entertainment system failed, crew couldn't fix. Crew had very strange rules about "safety", freaked out about my son wearing earbuds during takeoff. Xian to Guangzhou - weak entertainment options, cut off two different movies in the middle."
