Pros: Everything was amazing. I did have a bit of a tense check out. I had $60 worth of parking on my bill. My dad who would come by and get me would use the parking across the street and pay the parking attendant $5 to come get me and then we'd go out. We ended up with a $60 bill that i contested and the attended was super unpleasant about it. She did end up taking it off but I thought the whole thing was unnecessary and left a bad taste in my mouth. I will tell you though that aside from that, the whole experience at El Convento was truly spectacular. I loved it and hope to make it an annual ritual. It was truly out of this world. Another note, I deliberately stayed in Old San Juan because I wanted to witness first hand what's been happening in the streets and I can't say enough what an exciting time it was to travel to SJ. I am so proud that I could witness what was happening. Puerto Rico is an amazing place. The world is watching. Thank you for everything.

Cons: Service is not consistent. For the first night the room was impeccable, the maid even turned on the radio to relaxing music and prepared the bed with chocolates on the pillows. On the second day I had to request maid service because they had not come to the room, and they did the bare minimum to tidy up. On the third date they even forgot a cleaning rag in the sink, and didn't prepare the bed at night. Reviewing service standards would take this beautiful hotel to the next level.

Pros: Hosts were very helpful and courteous. Our luggage was stored on site before our room was ready which allowed us to explore Old San Juan the morning we arrived. We received a phone call when our room was ready and came back to find that our hosts had moved all of our luggage to our room for us.
This is not a traditional hotel but felt more like a guest house. We had our own space, and the room was nice, but not super fancy. There was a common area with a kitchen sink and fridge and some seating, tables. The entrance to the Suites is through a storefront of a jewelry shop.
The Suites are in the heart of Old San Juan and within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and other attractions. We stayed one night and about 24hours total, and it was just right for our needs.

Cons: The only downside is that the apartment is a bit noisy at night (cars and people from bars) but it seemed to get calmer after midnight.

Pros: Hosts were very helpful and courteous. Our luggage was stored on site before our room was ready which allowed us to explore Old San Juan the morning we arrived. We received a phone call when our room was ready and came back to find that our hosts had moved all of our luggage to our room for us.
This is not a traditional hotel but felt more like a guest house. We had our own space, and the room was nice, but not super fancy. There was a common area with a kitchen sink and fridge and some seating, tables. The entrance to the Suites is through a storefront of a jewelry shop.
The Suites are in the heart of Old San Juan and within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, and other attractions. We stayed one night and about 24hours total, and it was just right for our needs.
Cons: Common area is right outside the doors to most suites. Our door was not sound-deadening by any means. We were awakened really early by some other guests who seemed to be leaving for the airport for a morning flight.
Also, seems to have some plumbing issues. Although the bathroom was modern and very clean, we were asked not to flush used toilet tissue down the toilet, which was a bit strange for us. A covered waste basket was available and it wasn’t a huge deal but certainly unexpected.

Cons: Room was in front of an ice making machine and it kept on making noise the whole night. Stayed in room 912 i believe so i kept on hearing noice from other rooms, room next door had some type of blender or something they where constantly using. Also some type of knocking on the wall from the room next door. Other than that the stay was great.

Cons: All facilities stated on the website were NOT available. It stated in room -dining but this was not available. Stated main restaurant was open till 10:30pm for dinner but it was not open at all. We came back from dinner to get a drink from the bar at 10:50pm and it was closed even though website stated it was open until midnight. Room facilities for a suite were very basic, with no mini bar and only an old coffee machine (with coffee for only one person?) and only one robe. I would of expected facilities for two! Furthermore the gentleman on reception was extremely rude and unhelpful - he is not made for front of house! We complained about his attitude and asked to speak to the manager. The manager was much more helpful and communicated well with us and recommended a great restaurant. Breakfast service is poor with limited options. To sum up, I would not stay here again! My score 1/10! The hotel couldn’t be more unhelpful and unaccommodating if they tried!

Cons: One of the male wait staffs in restaurant was not the friendliest. He did not remove plate from table from one of friends buffet so it sat in front of his wife. She picked a piece of bacon off of it and he charged them for two buffets. Felt that was wrong. Plus she self served her own water to top it off. That was only bad experience. At first did not give me a room with ocean view, but corrected it.

Pros: It’s a beautiful colonial style boutique hotel in the heart of old San Juan. The rooms are gorgeous - with tiles on the floor and high wooden beamed ceilings. Bed was large and really comfortable.

Pros: This is a quaint hotel with beautiful accommodations! It is very authentic and located in a beautiful area in Old San Juan. We had a king room and were pleasantly surprised to open the door to what looked like a suite to us! It had an additional room for sitting wit a couch and lovely furnishings. The doors and windows are beautiful. This is old world charm. The rooftop deck was also lovely with its plunge infinity pool that overlooks the city. The staff was FABULOUS! Everyone was polite, kind, and seemed to go out of their way to help us! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone! If we go back to San Juan, we will be back to La Terraza!

If you can, ask for rooms 221 or 321 as they are facing the street and have really nice balconies. Also, if you have a rental car, you can only park on the streets of old San Juan until 6:00 at night. If you do after, it is a $250 ticket. There is a lot down closer to the ferry terminal that charges $3 every time you go in and out or $3 for the day if you don't move it.

However, for a little adventure, this place is it. The staff at The Gallery Inn was super friendly, helpful, like all those we met in Puerto Rico. Snuggled in between the two Major Forts, the location is an easy walk to any place you want to go in Old Town.

Pros: The property was amazing - the most unique hotel/inn that I have ever visited. From the numerous courtyards and sitting areas, to the beautiful pool, and of course the amazing collection of art and sculpture, it was just incredible. The room was so charming, and blended the historical elements of the inn with beautiful artwork and decor. We were also fortunate enough to have a balcony overlooking the sea. Spent every evening relaxing in the Cannon Room listening to music and visiting with other guests. The location is terrific as well - all of the best restaurants, bars and shops are easily within walking distance. I really can't say enough good things about our experience. You do forgo some of the conveniences of newer hotels (for example, no elevators - but this building dates to the 1700s!), but the beauty and character more than make up for this. My wife and I can't wait to return to the inn and Old San Juan.

Trees, gardens, sitting areas, fountains, decks, live BIRDS, terraces and even a pool are all uniquely intertwined throughout the compound. Live music is performed every night of the week and emphasizes the owners passion for the arts! It really is a magical little sprawling compound nestled between the 2 spectacular historical forts in Old San Juan. Plan to grab a night cap in the bar while you enjoy the gifted and talented local musicians nightly. The breakfast is fabulous! Basic for free; with made to order for minimal up-charge. LOVE the unique ambiance in every nook and cranny! Feels like and old castle! MUST explore hotel and go to rooftop at sunset. MAGNIFICENT PANORAMIC VIEWS of the island!!! Staff are so kind and always willing to help with everything! We were graciously upgraded to a gorgeous suite call "the Print" without asking! (Don't you just LOVE when THAT happens?) I WILL def return! New favorite boutique hotel in PR. Historic, old world charm, every room has it's own quirky, and completely unique design. Don't think twice! Book now!

Cons: I’m writing this review with our upgraded room in mind (Hector A) with the ocean view just because we stayed in the room Jan Marie at first and the lighting was really bad! The room itself wasn’t the best and the “garden view” wasn’t really a garden view. What made us upgrade our room was finding a dead cockroach under our table :(. Our friends had the ocean view room and we loved it. It was so different than the downstairs. The toilet paper was even better quality haha. To sum it up, the staff was first class, the hotel itself and the tropical parrots that live in it were stunning, and you can’t go wrong unless you settle for one of the cheaper rooms.

Cons: I feel petty stating that the WiFi coverage in the rooms wasn't very good - my guess is that the construction of the hotel likely makes signal coverage difficult. Other than that, my only other recommendation would be to include some fresh fruit or pastries at the morning breakfast. But beyond these two minor issues no complaints at all!

Cons: The customer service really falls flat. It was hit and miss with the staff. A couple of the staff were kind and somewhat hospitable, but there were several who weren't. The amenities were also lacking. If you are hoping for comfortable spaces to relax and read a book, you're really going to be disappointed. The breakfast consists of dry cornflakes, doll-size cups for coffee, and sliced bread, and store-bought lemon loaf. We heard a rumor that you could request eggs, but no one on staff mentioned this to us, and the guy in the "kitchen" certainly didn't give you the feeling that he would be happy to make anything...maybe it was his lack of eye contact or his back always turned to guests. We were happy to have stayed there once, but we wouldn't stay there again.

Cons: Very difficult to find with the given address; signage is not great but that's typical of Old San Juan. MUST know it's the GREEN building at the tiny side street directly opposite the main sign for the infamous "La Perla" (a "unique" waterfront shanty town that keeps to themselves; you do NOT want to enter for any reason!). Buzz the gated door facing the ocean and go up the stairs to a magical experience! Other than difficulty finding it initially, THAT is THE ONLY negative! To fairly represent, I was traveling with my college roommate/nurse and she had a difficult time appreciating the "character"; she could only see the "old"; BUT she was physically unable to climb all the steps to fully explore so she missed a lot. (No elevator, so be prepared for lots of cool quirky stairs!) Just wished we stayed for 2 nights prior to our cruise!

Cons: No hot water in the shower. Reported it and not fixed on time. The place needs to be refurbished and deep cleaned. chair in room had stains. Shower door was missing and they improvised by adding a curtain. There is no privacy in bathroom because there is a glass window next to door, which happened to be broken. The A/C was hard to control. I couldn’t find the auto mode do the unit was at full blast all night ( noisy). The rooftop “pool” is a joke. It is just a bathtub outdoors.

It IS if you are sailing Carnival, but it IS NOT if you are sailing Royal Caribbean. But it is just a short cab away... which the hotel arranged for me when I checked in. It’s always just me and my teenage daughter when I travel (two single females) so I’ll always concerned about safety. I felt totally safe here. The hotel has controlled entry so that no one but guests can get it. Our room was small but we only needed it to spend the evening before our cruise. It was well worth the money. I saved probably $150-200 over the big hotel chains. I totally recommend this hotel.

One thing to note: there is no closet in the King Room w/Balcony. Also the water in the shower goes from hot to cold for no reason, but then comes back to hot within a minute. The staff were very friendly and the price was right. Even with the two items I mentioned, will definitely stay here again. Oh, and did I mention the 1921 elevator? It's cute, but it is actually faster to take stairs!

Cons: Check in time was just a short period of time. Getting into the building was hard because there was a lock-box system that we did not know about when we booked the accomodation. I knew I was not gonna have service on my phone and it is hard for me to call anybody around 1 am when we arrice. We got the password in e-mail but when we got there it was difficult to get in. A gentleman helped us to call the owner and helped us to get in. If I knew in advance this system I would definitely not book this type of accomodation. The room and the rooftop was very nice but getting in when I am already tired it was stressful.

Also the drugstores (Walgreens and cvs)sell liquor and wine too. nice restaurant on rooftop of hotel with great drink specials and good food. Very nice friendly atmosphere. Check in staff Carlos and Wanda was very nice and professional. Hotel is not too big so the atmosphere is very quiet. There are a lot of things to do in this area that does not require a car or taxi since alot of things are walking distance. So if you want to relax in the park to live music, hang out and have drinks on the sidewalk, or watch the cruise ships come and go, then you should definitely come stay here. Will definitely stay here again.

Pros: We picked this hotel because we were in San Juan for one day before our cruise. We wanted a hotel in the middle of old San Juan in walking distance to all the sights, but also under 100$ as we are budget travelers. This hotel fit the bill, reminding me of many of the family owned hotels we have stayed at in Europe. The staff was friendly, the room clean and comfortable, they had an excellent roof top restaurant. Additionally, we were able to leave our luggage there the next day after we checked out while we went on a tour before we could check in for the cruise.

Pros: It is in n old building in the heart of Old San Juan., just what we' were wanting. We stayed in a room, facilities were very clean and air conditioning worked well. Beds were basic but comfortable.
