They need to remodel plenty things toncall rhem self luxury . Building its old ok but the facilities should have more modern new stuff. Theres no spa and the restaurants are way to expensive for what they serve
My husband and I have been staying at El Convento for the last 10-years (twice last year) and couldn't imagine going to Puerto-Rico without at least a two night plus stay. I can't say enough about the staff, the accommodations and love the historic beauty and history of Viejo San Juan!
There are no complaints and have had family members come with us for an exceptional respite! I have also highly recommend this hotel to friends and am planning our trip in May, 2020!
They upgraded room and brought champagne to help celebrate 40th anniversary.
I paid to include breakfast through Hotwire and was told at front desk it was not included.
Most staff members were very nice. One, Tony who waits in the restaurant was exceptional.
Middle manager at front desk is a disaster. The manageress on duty on 1/4/19 at 11am refused to extend our check-out time from 12:00 to 14:00, even though we spent $10,000 in the hotel and despite we could only check in to our room 17:00 on arrival and despite our room was cleaned every day late afternoon. She only gave us a 13:00 checkout, which we felt was petty and just not smart customer service. The check out process was painfully long, she could not get our names right on the receipt nor print our invoices, we had to insist for her to find a way to do it. The staff seem all aware of the insufficiencies of their management. The general manager should listen to their input.
Renovated former convent had a quiet, peaceful vibe. The courtyard was relaxing, the staff were stellar, brunch was fantastic. The beach access at sister properties was easy.
Once a convent for 252 years, today Hotel El Convento is a European-style, romantic boutique hotel in the medieval, charming city of Old San Juan. It’s considered the neighborhood’s top upscale hotel filled with history presented thought Spanish antique treasures and modern amenities. This hotel is made for romance, yet business travelers and families find plenty here to love.
Old San Juan is a 500-year-old historic district within Puerto Rico’s sprawling capital. History buffs often visit just for the surrounding of history itself. Hotel El Convento is located on the picturesque Cristo Street and near the city’s second oldest park, Plaza of the Nuns, and the second oldest cathedral in the Americas, San Huan Cathedral. Guests are within walking distance to San Cristobal Fortress, Pablo Casals Museum, Galeria Nacional, and San Felipe del Morro Fortress. While located near key historical sites in Old San Juan, the hotel lacks in proximity to the beach.
El Convento's prime location is walking distance to many restaurants and bars within Old San Juan, but the boutique property offers three restaurants and bars on-site that often draw guests, locals, and tourists staying elsewhere. Two restaurants offer a very romantic setting and menu, as does the bar where large candles flicker. The third restaurant is casual and offers pizza, pasta, and craft beer. The outdoor terrace features a plunge pool and hot tub with gorgeous views, plus La Veranda Terrace includes daily wine, cheese, and crackers. For guests having to work, the lounge, library, and business center provide all necessary components. Meeting spaces, salons, a fitness center, and a beloved herb garden are also on-site.
Hotel El Convento is a destination unto itself with grand accommodations, unique historical atmosphere, and a romantic ambiance everyone falls in love with.
