Bait and switch. Paid in full. Paid an u er to and from to pick up car. Said they would not except third party agreement and I would have to pay walk in prices. As leaving the guy in their parking lot cleaning the cars. Tried to hustle me to get a car through 3 of his friends. Worst customer service. They told me to move and practically kicked us out. CSR was upset that she didnt get her break on time. Then a huge amount of people walked in. My car was new, to my disadvantage as it had all the new fangled gadgets, auto break, lane correct, etc. i was unaware and the first time it stopped so hard i thought i hit something!Reviewed 2 Nov 2026

They charge excessively on insurance despite me having it included in my credit card. Deposit is 2500,- CAD. When returning the car in unchanged condition and filled up I asked for a receipt, they refused to give me one. I am now worried whether they will release the deposit without issues. The experience felt like dealing with a fly-by-night company. I have rented cars all over the United States and around the world (Europe, Southeast Asia, Middle East) and the pickup at Ace was the most difficult. The burden of proof of insurance was on me, which caused a major delay. I have full coverage but they wouldn’t take my word for it, I had to PROVE it. Otherwise you’re forced to pay hundreds of dollars for their insurance. I had to contact my insurance company on a Saturday morning to get a certificate emailed to me. Also, the $9.95 charge per day for an EZ-Pass transponder is over the top, total price gouging of a captive market. I’m gritting my teeth at what the total toll and transponder charge will be, which you don’t receive for some time. I will expect a full breakdown of all fees but am not confident it will be clear and concise. I left feeling like the NJ/NY area is one big ripoff. Good experience. The location is definitely in a "downtown" location near the Brooklyn Bridge, which made getting to the location and returning the car a challenge, but they company was easy to work with. I was upgraded, which was a nice surprise and perk. I recommend them!Reviewed 9 Oct 2026

The counter agent at Ace Rent a Car misled me into paying for unnecessary insurance. I had already purchased full collision protection through KAYAK for $80 total. Upon pickup, the agent aggressively insisted that my policy was invalid and instructed me to cancel it, promising a full refund, while forcing me to take their in-house coverage at $50/day ($200 total). I was coerced into paying $200 under false pretenses. I demand a full refund for this forced upsell.Reviewed 25 Sept 2026
