Cons: Had a little bit of trouble finding it on foot from the bus station, as there's some round abouts and foot tunnels on the way. She complained a bit that we didn't call saying we were coming lateish but we didn't have a phone that worked there and things just took a lot longer than expected to get there and find it. (We had been up all night with flights so we were pretty tired though).

Cons: When we checked in we were told they were giving us a free upgrade, which we thought was nice of them. However the member of staff checking us in had a problem getting the key access card to work, so he showed us to another room (still an upgrade room.) This room had clearly not been hoovered, there was a full bin of rubbish in the bedroom, hair on surfaces in the bathroom and tooth paste stains on the glass shelf in the shower. We went down to reception to say we were not happy about this, we were then moved to the room which we originally booked. This room was ok, there was a visible damp absorber on top of the wardrobe which was the first thing we saw as we walked in the room, which didn’t exactly fill us with hope! The bed was uncomfortable and needed a new mattress. Our room was very close to the back door which leads to the car park and it was very cold as this door was left open quite late. The stairs and corridors leading to the rooms also needed a good hoover and looked as if this had not been done for days. We were very disappointed by this stay as we were so looking forward to it as we know a few people who have stayed before and really enjoyed it.

Cons: At checking out stage the cleaner - who I assume was also a manager - was very rude and quite aggressively toned in how she spoke to us. I then received a message saying I was being charged a further £100 for evidence of smoking in room on top of the overnight stay of only £35. This is totally unfounded and there is no way any smoking took place as I detest the smell of smoke and don’t allow it in my home or car so certainly not in a small hotel room where I’m sleeping. There would have been empty cigarette packets only as the smoker went downstairs each time and stood at front door.

Pros: The Golden Lion is perfectly located 5 minutes from the train, and at the heart of Stirling. There was dozens of pubs, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained, the room and bathrooms were clean, and the staff were lovely and had no problems holding my bag until check-in time. I was even able to squeak into a top-floor room with an amazing view over Stirling and of the surrounding hill-side - spectacular!

Cons: While the exterior and main floor are exquisite and inviting, the hotel rooms left a lot to be desired. The beds were comfortable enough, the bathroom was functional, however it is out-dated and has an off-colour that doesn't come out from years of use. Luckily it was big and spacious - a great break to stretch your legs after a busy day.

Cons: We thought the listing said Wi-Fi was offered, but we discovered it was only in the hotel lobby and maybe the restaurant, with no Wi-Fi in the rooms. There were quite a few one-way streets in the area which were not shown our our car navigation, so had to explore a bit to figure out how to get to the hotel & parking. The parking lot was very crowded and kind of rugged looking. One afternoon it was full and we had to explore limited street parking.

Pros: All the staff were quite efficient and friendly. The room had everything I needed. Very nice breakfast and everything was when and where I needed it. Great location, too, and a charming house to stay in.

Cons: The most important thing and the reason I stay in a Hotel is for a comfortable bed. Th bed in room 3 was the most uncomfotable bed I have slept in. Also I would like my own key when out late
