I'm still in shock...Pros:The car was extremely comfortable and economic, and for the price I paid I can't complain.Cons:I called my bank and asked about car rentals and using my car with a Mastercard logo, they said it works just like a credit card, so there should be no problems. As I get to the rental place, they tell me that because it's a debit card, they have to do a credit check, they dont give you the option of soft pulling or anything like that, they just tell you if yo want to rent their cars with a "debit card" they have to do a credit check, which of course lowers your credit score if you are constantly renting vehicles and they are constantly checking your score. They need to get it together fast. Also upon returning the car I was told that I had to write the millage on the contract and leave the contract at the rental desk because the payless desk was not open for buisness.Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

Payless would not honor quoted ratePros:Nothing. I paid more NOT LESS.Cons:There is nothing that I liked about Payless. Payless refused to honor the rate that I found on kayak. I used . Payless said that quotes misleading and wrong rates. That their quote did not include taxes and fees. I showed the agent that it did include taxes and fees. I noticed in the comment section that I am not the only one that has this problem. Kayak, please investigate this matter. If purposely Miss quotes customers I hope that you will discontinue using them. I use Kayak often and I've never had this problem before. Pros:It worked for what we needed.Cons:The clerk at the pick up counter was rude and unhelpful - I told her 3 times we were adding a second driver and she handed me the contract with only myself listed. I asked her to change it and she tore the contract up in front of me, huffed, and took her time reprocessing. The drop off instructions are not clear - BOS car rental drop off is not clearly marked with Payless. It's also the only one where you leave the keys in the car, write down your own information (mileage, fuel etc) and then have to go back inside to the pick up counter and wait. Again. For another clerk who is not efficient. I knew what I was paying for. This eval was meant to help the company realize they are not customer friendly.Reviewed 30 Oct 2017

Pros:Upgraded from compact car to a Mitsubishi Outlander, which was the only positive of our experience.Cons:20+ minute wait in line at Boston Logan, on top of 40+ minutes just for the associate to help us?!!! Their name tag said they’d been there for 15 years, but they were slow as molasses and had no care for us and did not make me feel valued. There were no Payless reps at their airport (what?!!!), so a random other person had to try and come help. When we FINALLY got our car over an hour later, we drove it 2 miles only to have an emergency notification come on saying “Pull over safely. Car will stop soon” WTF?! So we drove back, got back in line and waited 40+ minutes to be helped by another terrible associate who didn’t care about us. Once we finally got our second car, it was 2+ hours later and no one even apologized for the inconvenience. Fees and long wait timesCons:They had only one agent as a result they had the longest line of all the agencies at the airport. It took much much longer to get out of the car rental place. Also they make up for their lower costs with the extra fees. You really need to be adamant that you don't want gas or insurance, as they automatically opt you in. I was told I would have the prepaid fuel charge taken off if I showed a receipt for filling up the tank when I got back. However that didn't happen and I had to fight with Customer Service to get my $30 back. Payless did resolve the issue and refunded my money. However the amount of time and stress to do it didn't warrant the savings.Reviewed 24 Nov 2015

Pros:Originally, the rateCons:If your flight is delayed flying into Boston Logan Airport, and you wait in line at the rental car center for 30 minutes, once you make it to the counter, the workers then inform you that even though the Payless sign is lit, they actually close at 11:00 pm, and they will not rent you a car. There is no plan B. Payless doesn't have an agreement with the other carriers. You are simply screwed. The worker suggested that I come back in the morning. So I had to rent from a new carrier, 'full fare, last minute rates'. This was the absolutely worst renatal car experience that I have ever had. Never again. Never Payless.Reviewed 8 Aug 2016

Worst car rental experience ever! Do NOT rent fromPros:-Cons:Below is our nightmare story of renting from Payless. Short version: In the future, I would rather pay 100$ more than renting from this place ever again. The savings are not worth the stress/awful experience! We rented a car for Thursday night 11pm. When realizing that they close at 11pm, we called Payless at Boston Logan directly to let them know that we would be there a few minutes after 11pm (our flight got in at 10:40pm). First, reaching them took close to 15 tries before someone answered the phone. But they assured us that it would be no problem to pick up the car a few minutes after 11pm. When we got there on Thursday at 11:10pm sharp the place was closed. No sign, no number to call, nothing. The official Payless hotline closes at 10pm. We had to rent another car for a night at a much higher price! When we got back the next morning to finally pick up our car, there was a 45-min wait and then the service was the worst. No apologies, nothing to try to accommodate for the major inconveniences we had. All in all it took 1.5 hours to get the car and much debate to get a small refund. Staff and especially managers did not seem to know what they are doing (i.e. how to operate their own systems) and were seriously the worst in customer service I have ever experienced!Reviewed 5 Sep 2016

Pros:This whole experience was extremely FRUSTRATING!!!Cons:To start off the gentleman(Joel) helping me behind the counter was extremely rude and condescending to me. He did not introduce himself and proceeded to eat his dinner while helping me. I tried to ask questions In regards to the details of my rental and he was very short and dismissive. I asked questions about the toll system and he would not answer my questions and acted as if I should know. To end this encounter I simply moved forward with my rental to get on my way. Once in my car the car had pre set restrictions where the volume can not go above 14. I have a hearing impairment. This was very frustrating for me because I could not hear the radio or my navigation and had to ability to turn it up. I called the customer service agent and they told me there was nothing they could do for me. I filed a complaint in regards to the poor customer service received and have yet to hear back from them. When I returned my car the company charged me 265 dollars and could not explain to me what the charges are for. I was not emailed an invoice. When I dropped the car off the service agent said everything looked good. Very very very very frustrating will never rent Payless again.Reviewed 13 Oct 2019

Pros:car was clean and worked great.Cons:-arrival and check out person needed to be more helpful directing me how to locate and pickup vehicle. -turning in car was well marked EXCEPT there was no one to say that once parked, go into the terminal to check in the car. I waited a long time until another vendor said what to do. There is a sign, but the cars coming in park right in front of that sign and new arrivals cannot see it.. -car had rear head rests that blocked vision, esp when changing lanes. Great car, awful dropoff.Pros:The car, Chevy Cruz, was all told $22/day plus tolls. It was a great car. A tiny bit of trash on the floor, but can't complain.Cons:Pickup was ok, but curiously, there was no one to let me out of the lot. The Avis guy did it for them. Drop off was bad. There were cars blocking the entrance to the return line, so I was almost parked on the tire-poppers. Again, the Avis guys had to help me figure out the system. Inside, there was one person at the counter and a line of about 6 people. The sign said I had to wait in line to return the car, even though I had prepaid. I called customer help and they said I had to wait. But I told them to put a note in my file that I wasn't waiting--cuz I had a flight... it's the airport, after all. Great staff at Logan InternationalPros:I thought the staff was excellent - friendly and patient. Payless cost slightly more than a few other companies but the line was MUCH shorter and was worth every penny compared to those standing in line for an hour.Cons:My car was not cleaned out - still had trash from last renter.Reviewed 25 Jul 2017

Friendly and helpful staffPros:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The guy who checked us in enter a code so that we didn't have to pay for an extra driver. The extra driver was my husband, and I know at least one other company includes spouses for free, so I was annoyed that this wasn't their policy but then they waived it. I had to return the car solo with my baby and all my stuff and they offered to drive me to the terminal free of charge. That made my travel much easier!Reviewed 23 Jan 2017
