If you are planning on touring the region, car hire is the easiest way to get around. The airport centralises all its car hire companies together in one location and has secured good road links to the major routes around the airport. It’s considered a very easy airport to get to by road.
  • Some of the car hire firms at Boston Logan Intl Airport, such as National, allow a driver's spouse or domestic partner to be named as an additional driver at no extra charge.
  • To return a car to Boston Logan Intl Airport you need to return to the parking garage at the Rental Car Centre. On approach to the airport simply follow the signs for the RCC and locate a parking bay in your car hire company’s section. Remove your personal belongings from the car and bring the keys and your documentation to the appropriate desk. The car will be quickly checked, the paperwork exchanged, and you’ll be free to go. If you arrive out of normal office hours there will be a drop box to leave your key.
  • Boston Logan Intl Airport car hire operates 24h a day. The majority of desks are staffed during this period and will be able to help you with queries around collections or returns. If you prefer to drop and go rather than deal with a staff member this is possible with a number of firms also.

FAQs about renting a car at Boston Logan Airport

  • Where are the car rental companies situated at Boston Logan Airport (BOS)?

Car hire at Boston Logan Intl Airport is centralised in one purpose-built location – the Rental Car Centre (RCC). All the major US and international car hire companies are based here, and each has their own dedicated desk. Free airport shuttle buses connect the Rental Car Centre with the terminals and run every five minutes. The blue buses are called the On-Airport Shuttle. They pick up and return to each terminal in this large international hub.

  • Is the collection point far from the rental desks at Boston Logan Intl Airport (BOS)?

The parking garage where you collect your car is in the same building as the car hire desks. It’s a four-storey car park building with space for over 3,000 cars, making the journey from arrivals to the road even faster.

  • What kind of amenities are offered at Boston Logan Intl Airport Rental Car Centre?

The Rental Car Centre is very well resourced. The shuttle bus brings you straight to its door. You will find staff on hand to help you with any queries as well as ATMs, vending machines, toilets, waiting areas and cafes. Often your passport will be required for secondary identification, and you may also be asked to show your return flight details, so make sure and bring these with you. If your driving licence is written in a script other than Latin, then you will also need an International Driving Permit. This is essentially a translation of your driving licence for US authorities. If you can’t source one before you travel, then an authorised translation of your driving licence may be acceptable. The minimum age to hire a car in the US is 18 and anyone under the age of 25 will have to pay a daily surcharge.

The pickup process was chaotic. It was written on my booking confirmation (after I completed pre-check in paperwork online) that I would go to the Fastbreak counter to get my car - this was not correct and I almost had to go back to the other check in counter that had a very long line. There was also a quarter tank of gas in the car and I had along trip ahead of me that night so having to stop for gas wasn’t ideal.

Budget refused to honor my rental of a small SUV, saying it was simply an economy class car and that it was kayaks fault for indicating the type of cars listed were small suvs. They told me they were “upgrading” me to a Toyota Corolla but it absolutely was a down grade and the car was as basic and underwhelming as they come. I asked to see the manager. I showed my small SUV reservation. He too said it was an economy class reservation and refused to answer whether they had my reserved type of suv in the lot. Also refused to give a different suv. He then with a straight face offered me a minivan. They were disparaging. They tried to upsell prepaid tolls and demanded to know who my insurance provider is when I declined additional coverage. It was the worst rental car experience I’ve had.

Prior to picking up car, it was impossible to check-in early and choose the car; website was useless and didn't work. Calling "customer support" was worse, if not down right pathetic. Wasn't interested in helping; was pushing to cancel reservation and move into a new one at a much higher price. Could not guarantee what type of car I'd be getting nor it's class.

The pick up experience was terrible. There was a situation with flight cancellations, from what I heard other customers say, which affected the pick up times of several customers. This was not communicated by any of the Dollar management team. As a result, many customers were left wondering what was happening with the bottleneck at the booth. The Dollar employees at the booth were inundated with frustrated customers who did not have their vehicles. Upper management should have communicated clearly as to why this was happening. For a positive, I liked the ease of drop off when I returned my vehicle.

Dollar would not accept my member number at the counter because I had rented through a third party. Thus, I had to pay for my spouse to be a secondary driver. Their response, “take it up with corporate.” I have not had that experience with other car rentals through a third party before. This was the second time I’ve had problems with Dollar at the counter.

The express pick up process was confusing and could have been much more smooth. I’ve done the express pick up on an app before and it was easy and clear. But with Dollar at Logan, the app didn’t provide clear instructions on where to go so I ended up standing in a short line. Overall it was a fairly quick but I paid the extra money to skip the counter, which was definitely not worth the extra cost.

Overall I thought it was a good experience. Was 39 mins late with drop off due to traffic and was charged an extra day. Was told about “all the tolls” and encouraged to purchase the toll package and did not go over a single toll bridge. Had explained my travel to the representative and she was insistent on my purchasing the package. Package cost me $60 and no toll bridge crossed. Other than these two curious actions the experience was acceptable.

They did not have the vehicle class I reserved at the time of pickup. They charged me for the e-toll premium service and did not offer the standard toll option even when I asked about the high price. And finally, the vehicle was provided with less fuel AND returned with a full tank, but despite that the receipt reflected that the vehicle was returned short on gas and I had to pay a fuel fee. I was able to get them to agree to refund me the fuel fee, but only after calling them and providing photos, which I had thankfully taken. This was the worst rental experience I have ever had.

The front desk staff was the best I've ever had. Car was reasonably clean except one fake eyelash and cranberry in the cup holder.

W re reserved a car to go on a leaf peeping trip and when we arrived to pick it up, they were all out of cars. We ended up cancelling our reservation and paying double with another rental company but at least they had a car for our reservation.

Double charged (not pending holds--actual charges) and still waiting for a response from the company. Many pre-trip messages insisting that I should check in online to "skip the desk and go straight to the car." Fortunately I didn't do that, because upon arrival, numerous unhappy travelers were turned away at the garage and sent back to the desk to check in. There were physical signs everywhere asking people to check in online and go straight to the garage. Terrible treatment at the desk. The person lied and said, verbatim, "We only have electric cars right now." and asked if I needed instructions on how to find charging stations. I insisted on a gas car and suddenly he was able to make one available--for twice the price we had reserved online! Don't lie to me and say there are not any gas cars then. Bad service in general too. He asked me how to spell my name WHILE actively holding my photo ID, and then later asked "What kind of card is that" after I had paid. (He meant Visa vs. Mastercard, which, again, you have my card. Stop wasting my time.) Car center console was dirty with brown sticky residue. Horrible experience start to finish, and I'm still not even finished since I'm still waiting for the charges to be corrected.

I accidentally rented an electric car… in thrifts defense I did not read the description before I purchased. It wasn’t until I was 30m away from the airport that I realized. Took forever to charge the car. The car only had 200mi on it to empty when I rented it. Also did not interact with anyone to get the car it was all online, turned in the keys to a human but that’s it.

My experience was outstanding! Excellent car, spotless and fun to drive. I left my phone in the car and went back to retrieve it. The customer service rep took my information and went looking for the car. Ten minutes later she came back with it in her hands. What a great relief 😅
