Pros:First time using Hertz. I liked the fact that my reservation was completed. Excellent staff except for the manager. I returned a day earlier and was running late. Called to let them know. They said no problem that I would get the day back free. Until.....Cons:I recommend leaving the car as dirty as possible and only filling the tank to where they gave it to you upon return. I spent good money cleaning and filling tank higher than was given. Just to be appreciative. Upon return a female was working and thanked me for washing and removing all the sticky residue left on the vehicle from previous stickers. She nor other employee had a problem giving me the extra day back. Then all of a sudden she had to leave to pick up someone and the manager took over. My return time was 1pm according to my reservation. He said he would not give me the extra day back. I was taken back. I explained how it was only 2 hours and called to confirm previous. He said angrily that that was my perogative to clean and fill the tank.and he owed me nothing. I tried to explain the case about what the other employees said to no avail that he had authority. I did start to loose my cool. So I slid my credit card across the counter for him to pick up. He began yelling at me saying " DONT THROW THAT AT ME!!!!. that's when I lost my cool completely. I said "I didn't throw it at you. But if you would like me to? I would throw it at you. (Be assured I didn't say I was going to throw it unless he wanted me to). Then he decided to kick me out of the store and call the police. Best first experience ever had with Hertz. And because of their wonderful customer service it will be the last. I will tell anyone not to rent from Hertz because of their WONDERFUL!! customer relations. I have always rented from Enterprise. Never ever had a problem. Now I understand why Hertz is going out of business. Bad apples always spoil the bunch. I don't usually leave negative comments but this really got my goat.Reviewed 17 Oct 2020

AwfulPros:The individual who did the return check on my vehicle was the most pleasant and helpful HERTZ employee I had met on the trip.Cons:I booked a reservation for Fort Meyers Florida and when I arrived to the airport HERTZ counter with my 3 children I was advised the office I booked with was 40 minutes out of the airport and a $60 cab ride. Upon arrival at the advised location, we were informed that this location closed at 1 PM and we had to go to a 3rd location. Thank goodness I had the cab wait at location #2 or my children and I would have been stranded. The issue is that NONE of the above was communicated to me when I did my online booking. Amazingly fast and courteous service at RSW airporPros:After having a mechanical failure on one of our flights, delaying us 2+ hours, Hertz staff stayed open beyond normal closing hours (after 1:00 a.m.) and were there waiting for us at 2:30 a.m. to deliver us our rental car. When I called from Chicago to say our plane was delayed, they graciously said, "don't worry, we'll stay here until you get here," and they delivered on their promise. The car was immaculate and we picked it up and drove away in 5 minutes or less. Hertz did a tremendous job to make what might have been a horror story into a small inconvenience, and we actually enjoyed driving to our destination without having to fight traffic.Cons:Nothing; everything was amazingly professional and easy.Reviewed 11 Mar 2017

Kayak changed my pickup locationPros:The gal who helped me at Hertz was very nice and helpful.Cons:Kayak changed the location for pickup to a nearby airport. Then, because it wasn't feasible for me to pay for a taxi at almost midnight to go to another rental location, the Hertz people were nice enough to switch it for me. HOWEVER, the rate over doubled in cost. This was unacceptable but I had to have a car, so I paid it. I doubt I'll ever use Kayak again and I'm not real happy with Hertz's prices either. Hertz prefers people not to use third parties like Kayak, but we use them because Hertz's prices are way too high! My car was a tiny little economy car, definitely not worth what I paid. I was very surprisedPros:The staff at Hertz was great. When they heard our travel story they even upgraded us! The car was clean and handled very well. I plan on booking direct with this location next month.Cons:When I put in my request on Kayak, I was very specific on the pickup location. Imagine my surprise when I got to the Hertz counter and was told that I was at the WRONG location! To get to the car would take a $20 cab ride, but to get a receipt, and I would get reimbursed. WRONG! Took the cab ride to get to the car, only to be told there is no reimbursement procedure and that the other counter has been told that repeatedly. They also said that, when they talk to lessors, 100% of the time, if there is a mix up on location, they have booked through a third party site. Lesson learned!Reviewed 27 Feb 2017

Hertz peoplePros:The guys at the Hertz location were great. My vehicle was great.Cons:We booked and paid online. I booked for an after 6pm arrival for my car at the intl' airport. We got in just before 6. Went to Hertz. They said the one we booked with was at a different location - they also said this happens often! We phoned Hertz 1800 - to ensure our vehicle was ready. They said Yes your vehicle is ready and waiting for you- I have witnesses to this phone call. We took a $30 cab ride to that location- got there at 6:17pm - they were closed!!! We then took the cab $20 to our hotel. Then the next morning got a $20 cab to pick up our vehicle. I've paid $70 In can date and an extra day in a rental that I didn't use the vehicle. Not cool. COCKROACHESCons:Our car was infested with cockroaches. Which we didn't realize until night time and then it was too late to return the car that evening and ruined 1 of the 3 nights I was spending in Florida. Hertz made me fill the roach infested car up with $7 in gas before I returned it and offered me no discount or apology. They exchanged the car, luckily for a none cockroach infected one. But I will never get the image of all of those tiny bugs crawling around out of my head. It was awful. literally the worst car rental experience of my life.Reviewed 5 Feb 2018

You screwed up my trip!Pros:I punched in RSW airport on the kayak site thinking I I would get a car at the airport. I was traveling with my 93 year old mother, so convenience was most important! I find out when I get to rsw that the car was at a different Airport 30 minutes away in fort Myers. I had to Carrie all My luggage with my wife and 93 year old mother to the taxi Area! They would not change my drop off location unless I paid a $350 fee!! No where did it say this was a different location than RSW??? I actually said "airport location ". How would I know this would be a different airport than the one I asked for? Please change your system and be more accommodating when an error occurs. 3 week rental was Overpriced; Old Car, Smelled, stainsPros:Good pickup and return process. Friendliness of employeesCons:1-200$/week upgrade to a Mid-sized car (Hyundai Elantra). This is NOT a mid-sized car. 2- Car smelled of deodorizer for three days, then heavily of cigarette smoke for the next 10 3. Stains on the back seat. 4. The car had almost 36K miles on it. I was given a 3-year-old car for a premium price. 5. Ran out of windshield wiper fluid aft 4-5 uses. 6. CC was held for 801$ (difference for the upgrade) even though the total cost was $601. When the car was turned in the correct amount was billed. Read the receipt on the bill it will say "approximate" and you'll see a 200$ charge (temporarily) in the event of lost keys.Reviewed 23 Apr 2017

Cons:Despite having a reservation 2 weeks before, there were no cars available upon arrival. We were told there were 6 other people who had the same problem and they did not know when a car would be available. We left a number to be contacted at as soon as a car was available. We never received a call or any follow up whatsoever. Not only did I️ waste a few hours time dealing with this, we had to spend $40 in Uber fees alone just commuting back and forth from Hertz. Booked at wrong Fort Myers location at time when lPros:Subsequent rental with Hertz was positiveCons:Looked for rentals at Fort Myers airport. Found a car with Hertz and booked for 10pm on a Saturday night. On arrival was told that it was for the wrong Fort Myers airport and the other airport where our car was, was 15 minutes away but that the location would be closed. Tried to call the rental location but got no answer. Was also told that i was about the fourth person to have the same problem that day. Had to pay for a new rental car at the desk at over the odds because we had nowhere to go. Spent 3 days attempting to contact Hertz to get money back. When i got through to someone they were very polite and helpful, but still don't have my money back 3 days later. If i don't get it back soon i will have to chase up again.
