Top tips for hiring a car at SW Florida Intl Airport

  • Since public transport means Fort Myers SW, Florida Intl Airport operates during specific hours, booking a rental car ensures you can get to your destination even when you arrive on an early morning or late-night flight. Taxis are convenient but can only accommodate three passengers, so travelers arriving in large groups should opt for a car rental at Fort Myers SW Florida Intl Airport. All the agencies offer travelers vehicles that can accommodate the number of people in the group. The picturesque Fort Myers has plenty of sites and miles of beaches, which travelers can explore in the comfort of a rental vehicle.
  • South West Florida Airport has plenty of car rental agencies, with most situated on-site and some serving the airport being located off-airport grounds. The best option is to book your vehicle of choice from any agency in advance to ensure your car will be ready immediately after you land. The facility, which houses the rental agencies, is on the ground level of the vast parking lot. Travelers leaving the arrivals area should head down the stairs then walk to the facility on the opposite side of the building, housing baggage claim to the rental desks. Travelers may also obtain a rental from the off-airport grounds agencies that have a shuttle that stops on the eastern side of the garage.
  • You can refill the rental vehicle at any gas station near the bustling airport if you do not mind the slightly inflated prices. Even if you arrive at the airport later than the stipulated time, there is a provision to return the vehicle after official hours. Travelers can quickly locate the return area by following the marked signs near the main building, which leads to the parking garage.
  • Because of South West Florida Airport's colossal passenger traffic, picking up a rental may be quite a hustle. Travelers should opt for fast service options and booking in advance to reduce the pick-up time. Also, picking up or dropping off a rental at around 6 am or 5 pm when traffic congestion leaving or driving into the bustling airport is at its worst will be very inconvenient. Travelers wishing to take the least time getting a vehicle from a car rental at Fort SW Florida Intl Airport will have an easy time during the mid-morning hours or over the weekend.
  • Book your car hire at SW Florida Intl Airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

My contract stated my drop off would be March 26 at 6:30 PM. I arrived 2 days early and paid $151 extra for the early rental, specifically asking twice if that was all the cost. A couple days later I sat down to read my Hertz contract and it said the drop off now was changed to March 25 at 2:30 PM. After waiting on hold for a half hour I reached a live person and telling her the issue she actually laughed and said.. no, you need to drop it off on the 25th. I told her my original contract states the 26th but that didn’t matter so I had to pay extra. They emailed me a new receipt and they had changed the drop off to 2:30 not 6:30! I called again and waited and waited. After over 45 minutes I gave up and just extended it AGAIN! I paid in good faith for a rental through March. 26 at 6:30 but instead never got what was agreed upon. Horrible customer service, Horrible experience.

After doing the paperwork at the indoor counter, I was told to go outside to the pickup area and told to take any SUV in a specific area. There was no one out there to assist me. I had to take the time to read the Nissan Rogue manual to understand how to use the various options especially the GPS mapping and after connecting my cell phone be Bluetooth, I could not get the mapping to display. I had to drive to my location holding my cell phone to view the map. It was the next day that I found out that I needed a cable connection to view the mapping. I am very disappointed with that type of SUV and will never buy one nor will I use Hertz again. At my return drop off there was no one there to scan the SUV back in. I did as others and left the SUV in the line with the FOB to get into the airport terminal on time. EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE !

Computer systems were down so the staff were doing their best but very overwhelmed. The car we reserved was not available so we got a different one … no problem at all… but there was only enough gas to go 30 miles before the gas light came on. I’ve never rented a car that close to empty before. Front counter staff was very nice but you could tell he’d been dealing with angry customers and it was going to be a long day for them all.

the car was ok, but there was wear and tear damage that i did not want to be blamed for nor charged for, so there was extra time needed for check out. on return, there was no one greeting the cars and only after waiting for about 10 minutes did I see a sign saying one should note the mileage and fuel, but there was no quick/easy way to find the odometer setting on the car, and how would I note the mileage without a pen if I did find the setting?

I was very satisfied overall, we thought the pick up process could have/should have been quicker. Especially since we had done the online check in, we still had to wait in line for 30 minutes. The car seats that we rented were very low quality and the infant seat was missing an anchor strap that I had to improvise to install it safely in the car. The vehicle was clean and new, very nice. Drop off was very easy, just pulled up and parked walked away. I would recommend Thrifty and we’ll likely use them again.

Pickup lines at RSW are 1 to 1.5 hours; minivan itself had very loud passenger door squeak when opening/closing (like it previously had cheap bodywork). Return at RSW was so full I had to leave minivan in a parked "traffic jam" just outside the rental garage, because nobody was moving the cars forwards or directing us to alternate area.

Pick up was terrible. Had to wait in line for over an hour. Unacceptable. I am sure you are aware of this which makes it that much worse. Otherwise the car was fine, drop off was fine, check in after that wait was fine.

The SUV we got was dirty and had big dent in the hood. I took pictures at pick up to make sure I had these damages documented. The inside was not clean- my 2 year old got In and while I was putting the baby in the car he found someone’s used chap stick and started putting it on his lips. I was not impressed. If I wasn’t traveling with my 4 kids (3 of them 4 and under) I would have went back into the office to ask for a different vehicle.

Wanted to extend rental for 3 days. Called Payless # on receipt pamphlet. I was told it was Budget line and they did not handle Payless. When I questioned the pamphlet # I was told " must be a misprint. I then went to Ft Myers desk at airport and told me I had to "return car and re-rent" costing me 4x the amount $. She said I should have called the phone # to extend. I explained I did and she just said "I don't know what to tell You." I am owed app $200!! 601.622.1209. Judy Reagan
