The staff went out of their way to be helpful, arranging for us to check into our room early and carrying our luggage to our room . The lounge area is cosy and comfortable serving bar food . Cons: The standard of the decor and maintainence are quite poor considering the location, the beautiful building and the price of the accomodation. The carpets and decor are in poor condition, dated and not particularly clean looking.

Pros: First time we stayed here we had no problems and enjoyed our stay. This time was unfortunately quite different. Location is good, very central. Decor is very nice. There is a fridge with water, milk and a couple of snacks (complimentary). Luggage storage available. Some of the staff were very nice. When we complained about the noise and inability to get much sleep, a nice staff member offered to move us to a different room which wasn't inter-connecting (didn't accept as partner was too tired and just wanted to sleep and go in the morning rather than moving lots of luggage for one more night).

Cons: Lots of noise as we were in an inter-connecting room - The neighbours in the connecting room were very noisy throughout the first 2 nights. We could also hear a lot of noise from the hallway. Staff weren't knowledgeable, one was a little bit rude. Bed wasn't very comfy and we didn't sleep well. Lots of dust in the air, and hairs on the wall of the shower.

Location superb literally about 8 minute walk to the centre. York itself is fabulous we had a wonderful stay lots to see and do. Free bottles of water at the hotel and a coffee machine free of charge throughout the day too. Free parking a plus.

Young man on reception was very polite and helpful and even served drinks in the bar. The drinks are very competitively priced and the bar area is quite pleasant for a pre-dinner drink. We were in room 23 in a small separate building and this room was lovely and very spacious. Breakfast on both days was excellent with plenty of choice. Another nice touch is complimentary bottled water in the breakfast room which you can take as and when you please and also a hot drinks machine which again is complimentary.

Cons: The only criticism (and there's not a lot the hotel can do about this) is that the doors in the annexe we were in had to be pulled shut (as opposed to a handle) so there was a bit of banging! when other guests were leaving/returning to their rooms

Cons: The walls are thin and I could hear everything from next door. It was inappropriate for me to listen but unavoidable. The shower recess is tiny and I'm a small person. I couldn't sort much water pressure either.

Cons: The room was much smaller than expected. It was very cold, even when we turned the heating up. Poor lighting as you're unable to open/pull back the nets in the lounge area. Rather stuffy in the bedroom as there's no ventilation. We stayed four nights and the room wasn't cleaned, the bathroom drains started to smell and we had to constantly go downstairs to ask for teabags as 4 bags for four nights wasn't suffice. We ended up buying our own from the Co op in the end. The fridge had a pungent smell in it too.

We felt very special :) The bath was lovely with piping hot water!

Cons: The only tiny thing would be that the tap had cold and hot water run separately- so we could either get ice cold water or boiling hot water- haha which I guess gives us a truly old time experience? Not a huge problem though! I've read reviews that the staff weren't too friendly. True that they could smile a little more- but- they were as helpful and as accommodating as we needed for our stay- so I have no complaints. Location is a little far from town centre- but that was clear when we booked- so, not really a complaint- the experience of living in this townhouse made up for it for sure! DIdn't mind the little bit of distance and quietness!

Cons: Do not visit York when the Christmas markets are on. We could find nowhere to eat in the evening - not even the hotel which was extremely busy with non residents eating in the restaurant and drinking in the bar. We had a takeaway in our room - which considering the prices we were paying to stay was not acceptable! - Also be aware there is NO parking at this hotel we had a 30 minute walk with a suitcase from the car park we found. We were driving around for nearly an hour trying to find parking. The hotels suggested public parking lot was full!

Cons: We were booked in for 4 nights, arriving on a Saturday, the first room we were taken to was, what was called a courtyard room. It was cold, damp, with mould on the ceiling, dirty walls and cobwebs. the Heating did not work and the toilet flush was hanging out the wall. we ask for another room and were told they were fully booked in the main hotel, but we could change to another courtyard room for the night and try and change again in the morning. The other courtyard room was just as bad, it was December and the heating did not work in that room either, although it was slightly cleaner, we had a cold night trying to sleep, with a lot of noise outside the window, when someone was putting rubbish in the big bins outside our room, early in the morning. The following morning we went straight to the reception and ask to be moved, the staff were very understanding and apologetic and upgraded us to a superior room in the main hotel for the rest of our stay. That room was fantastic, the bathroom alone was half the size of our original room. We were quiet surprized to find that the money we paid did not include breakfast, which was a further £12 a head if you booked the day before, but £14 a head on the day. Very expensive, we went to an amazing local café and a full English with tea or coffee for £9.

Cons: The feather pillows with no alternative was very uncomfortable for my daughter who has asthma. The heating was off in the room and we turned it to 3 but nothing happened. Turned it to 5 and it took a few hours to kick in, causing all of us to be awake at 4am sweating, having gone to sleep cold. No fridge in the room or bottled water. Disappointed as other Hilton Hotels we have stayed in this has been standard.

Didn't understand the pay system in the bar, as we ordered 2 drinks and were not asked to pay and were not given a receipt or any proof of what we had. We went to pay and had to tell the bar staff what we had ordered, to enable us to pay (so it is a good job we are honest people!).

Cons: There were a few minor issues Room was extremely hot but a fan was provided. It was noise in the morning with then Kitchen staff were making breakfast which was below our room. One strange thing was where we were allowed to keep our bags before we checked in our room...this room was unmanned unlocked. I would of liked to keep out luggage somewhere secure, although on request the staff did keep my laptop at reception instead Wireless access was poor had problems connecting.

Cons: The room was really dusty. I ran my hand across the headboard and the room filled with dust. The backs of the bedroom door and the bathroom door were thick with dust also. My partner suffers from asthma and didn't sleep very well. The room was also noisy. We could hear the comings and goings of the room above. (I understand this is an old building and not the fault of the hotel!)

Cons: This is by no means a Hotel let alone four star! It said on booking.com that this is a four star hotel with a bar. This is misleading as the ‘bar’ was just a drinks cabinet in the reception area with room to seat three people. There was nowhere to have breakfast. If you ordered breakfast off the menu the ‘Hotel’ sends out for it and you have to eat it in your room! The rooms were small, they were dirty, the bedding was stained, there was dust on the carpet all the way around the skirting board, the bathroom door was dirty, the carpet was stained and pulled. This is being misrepresented by booking.com as a Hotel when it is merely three star accommodation (nothing more) but charging four star prices! We booked three rooms for two nights at a cost of £750 and it was a complete rip off and disappointment!

There was no socket for everyone in the room. Those who sleep at the top of the bunk bed do not have any socket. It was awful because when I was at the hostel after a long day I couldn't charge my phone. Then, the shower was horrible, you cannot move it, so the floor was completely dirty. Another thing, please staff of the hostel, check if customers have already paid in advance because I almost paid twice.

Pros: The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The hotel is just a short walk from the train station and is just outside of the town centre.
Cons: The room was really small, which was ok for the price but it was quite hard for 2 people to get around the room at the same time.

Pros: Location was ideal, breakfast was excellent and staff was lovely
Cons: Brought our beloved pooch to celebrate daughter 16th birthday , was told couldn’t bring her into the bar area , we was planning to have a few drink with all our family that evening to celebrate , we was told it was policy and understand the member of staff was just following , there was no one in the bar area and no one in the food area which was a shame because we could have stayed for a few hours . I didn’t expect to take our dog in the food ate but the bar shouldn’t have been a problem. Whilst in York centre we had a lovely family meal in a restaurant that allowed us to bring our dog with us , if we had know we couldn’t go into that area we would have stayed out celebrating in the many dog friendly establishment

Pros: The Location was very good and parking was easily available, which helped with with being able to get into town `
Cons: The standard of the room we were in. The bathroom door was on a tilt so to be able to close it you had to lift it up almost of the hinges. The bed side tables were just planks of wood coming out from the wall one of which were broken and plug sockets were on the opposite room away from the beds. Staff don't acknowledge you

Cons: Little hard to control temperature in the room and cold at times Some (only some) staff didn't even acknowledge us when we entered lobby Very little room around bed/in room generally, further restricted by quite low sloping ceiling (other half is 6'4'..)
