Pros: Didn't really stay long enough to comment - arrived late one night and left early next morning. Liked the beer - Black Sheep real ale. Menu looked good but arrived too late to try it out.
Cons: Breakfast didn't start till 8.30 am. We needed to leave early, so they did provide a basic fruit juice, cereal, toast and kettle breakfast, though no discount on the B&B price for it. Shower power was very low. Our twin room was noisy - above the bar and didn't quiten down until the bar closed - OK for us as we were late - other rooms may be OK.

Central Hotel in York. A first-class Inn operated by Thwaites Hotels- AA Hotel Group of The Year 2016/2017. Situated in an enviable position right in the centre of the City of York, the Judges Lodging is a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse hotel full of history and character. Reopened in June 2015 following an extensive refurbishment, we are a popular hotel in York for city breaks and weekends away. Known for our characterful rooms, locally sourced food and fantastic range of real ales, gins and whiskey We offer the perfect mix of character and 21st century luxury and elegance. Our atmospheric Cellar Bar is the jewel to our crown with original vaulted ceilings and lots of cosy dining and drinking areas. It is also home to our stunning glass box where you dine and get a feel of the outside inn. During our refurbishment we also created a new Cask Bar hidden away on the first floor, and one of Yorks best kept secrets, and the Medicinal Cabinet which serves a selection of gins and whiskeys. For those rare sunny days we have two sun terraces to enjoy drinks and a bite to eat al fresco- in fact we have one of the biggest beer gardens in York!Food here is simple, yet perfectly executed, with menus inspired by the great local Yorkshire produce around us. Everything is cooked from scratch and sourced from trusted suppliers in the surrounding area. Those joining us for a break in York will enjoy our guest rooms. Each one is unique and fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay in York. Please do be aware that as a city lives and breathes throughout the day and night we cant promise absolute hush in the wee small hours as in any city location. Although we do our utmost to help with any specific room requests we cant unfortunately guarantee this.By booking directly with us you can take advantage of a 5 per day rate at the Marygate Car Park. Unfortunately, we cant reserve or guarantee you a space, but when you check out just ask for a token and we can add the 5 to your room account. Normal rates are 16 per day.

Staff nice, great location for city centre, room nice but not as luxurious as I thought it would be, room didn’t seem to get hoovered all week, bathroom mastic round bath coming away and looked poorly done - it’s all about the attention to detail - not sure I would stay again for the price - really bad for people with disabilities - steps everywhere.

Cons: Mentioned above. Embarrassing checkout said we hadn’t paid when in fact we had paid through booking.com in January 2019 for stay in November 2019 - need to brush up on how system works instead of asking us to pay when we had. Not happy with this.

Pros: Having stayed here before, it was my natural go-to for staying in York. The hotel is in an amazing central location, with comfortable rooms and the bar downstairs serves good food and drink too!
Cons: Since my last stay, it does feel like a few things have slipped at this hotel. The staff seemed not so interested, if anything a little rude this time. But we all have off days, right? Biggest issue was that we found a big clump of dried feces in the middle of one of the towels in the bathroom. In the room we stayed in (no 2), the lighting in the bathroom is also pretty poor.

Cons: The hoovering at 7.25am on hard floors beneath our room which woke us up... Only 5 minutes before our alarm, but still not the best wake up call and we were on the top floor There was no heating in the bathroom, so it was freezing when you walked on the tiled floor Also view was out onto a roof top which wasn't the best view

Pros: The property is in a fantastic location and I imagine when it was originally refurbished it was fantastic. However, it is looking a little "tired" in places (decor). The staff are fantastic and very customer focussed and friendly. The food is really good.
Cons: The bedroom was nice but really cold as neither of the central heating radiators worked. We complained and the staff did provide a fan heater, however, it was not thermostatically controlled and was too noisy to leave on at night. Because the windows are not double-glazed there was a lot of noise from "revellers" until about 4:00 am which, combined with the cold room, meant we had a total of only two or three hours sleep. Fortunately, we were only staying for one night. I thought the price was appropriate for a boutique hotel, but not for this hotel which does not really fit that category currently, but with a little work could, which would justify the prices.
7.9 Good
Pros: Room had a lovely view, and was nicely done up.

Standing next to York Minster, the Guy Fawkes Inn, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guido Fawkes. The Inn offers en-suite rooms with free wifi, flat-screen TV's and AA rosette food. Each of the rooms have been decorated individually, feature antique furniture, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary toiletries. Many of the rooms also enjoy a landmark view. The Inn retains many of its original features including gas lighting, real log fires and the timber staircase. You can also dine by candlelight in the restaurant, which serves classic pub-food from locally sourced ingredients and the bar stocks a range of real ales. Both York theatre royal and the national railway museum are just a 5 minute walk away.

Pros: Really friendly and hard working staff, great location, excellent (cook to order) hot breakfast. We also had an evening meal which was delicious, best to book a table in advance. The bar was welcoming with an open fire (lit on one of the two nights we stayed). We had a double room with a four poster bed that had a Minster view, the room had hard floors, antique furniture and a rustic feel - but contained all the mod cons you need. This is an old property with winding staircases and uneven floors and this adds to the charm but won’t suit everyone. We really enjoyed our two night stay.

Pros: Breakfast was very nice .
Cons: Damp in room .builder's came in as we arrived to look at the problem. You could see water marks on the wall where it rains in . Ripped curtains. Bed was horrible with springs in your back and legs . Not worth £238 for two nights??? Better off in a premiere inn

Pros: Good atmosphere takes you back in time
Cons: Only had full fat milk in room but they were happy to provide fresh semi skimmed when asked. Also would have liked a hot chocolate in room as it was December

Cons: Could do with better lighting near mirrors - not easy to apply makeup in atmospheric lighting! It is an old property with the inevitable evidence of having been reconfigured and changed over the years, but some things do need updating such as the dusty old extractor fans in the bathroom and the old toilet seat. All functioning - but past their best. Whilst the cooked breakfast is great the cold buffet is limited and you need to get there early if you want a croissant!

Pros: Amazing friendly staff. Great location. Quiet bedrooms. Clean. Decent menu for evening and lovely choice for breakfast.
Cons: Shower was very temperamental. ( hot then cold and one day not much hot water) Small towels.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location and car park. Staff friendly.
Cons: The food was a rip off. The fiery burger at nearly £15 - at least Dick Turpin wore a mask. ☹️☹️☹️ The room had no shower. The bath was so small I thought we might need assistance to get my wife out safely. All room must have a shower and if it is a bath a full size one not half size. ☹️☹️☹️

Pros: Good place nice drinking area nice cheap Indian restaurant attached to hotel
Cons: Nothing all comfy and good value for the money
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: From the minute I pulled onto the drive the place looked run down. When I got into the building I had to wait for the manager to be found to check me in. Then I was taken to my room. When in room I soon realised it wasn’t very clean cob webs in every corner spiders all over the place, no toilet roll in room no milk in room to make tea or coffee that was on the plate. The head board on the bed was just resting against the wall and the bed knob fell off the bed when I tried to move the bed closer to the wall. Then my room was right next to the roof where all the fans etc were going all night long. I was told to leave by a different door in the morning and drop key in box this was through the builders exit I think. In my opinion not a nice place to stay as it’s dirty and not maintained to a good standard. I definitely will not stay there again I’d rather sleep in my work van.
