Cons: The facility is older even after the renovation. The switches are so over-used that one is hard to read what the switch is for. The shower room insulation is old so that water leaks to the toilet area whenver the shower is used.

The hotel room was a great size, with you own walk in closet, a bathroom with twin sinks, standalone shower and bath. The bed was large and comfortable. We opted not to have a cot as all 3 of us could get into the bed. The smaller details made the hotel feel luxurious - the little slippers and bathrobe for my daughter, the various bathrobes for adults, the placement of sockets, the nail dryer in the wardrobe! The hotel staff were amazing. Never hesitated in helping where they could and the use of English language was fantastic (this can be a struggle even in other 5 star hotels)

Cons: We arrived at 3ish, but took us nearly 30 minutes to get the room! Something like the computer didn't release our room. The guy called and checked to confirm the room was ready. So the guy went upstairs to check and made sure the room was ok, but didn't know why still could not release the room. Then the other woman went upstairs again, still the same. Anyway, after seeing 3 groups of guest finished checking in, my room was finally released. It was not busy at that time, so I was quite annoyed that I had to stand there and wait for such a long time. But the staff was polite and sincere though.

Cons: I felt there was a slight air of arrogance - not in the staff but the hotel itself and its services. The hotel felt very in-personal, this came down the breakfast (which was a restricted menu - not open buffet unless you went Continental). We had fruit given to us the 1st day we arrived, but this was the same fruit for 3 days. The biggest disappointment for us was one evening we were to the lobby restaurant for dinner. A lovely grand space with a string quartet playing. I asked for a high chair for my 2.5 year old and was asked if it was necessary and could I not just sit her on a normal chair. I am not sure if this high chair went against their luxury appearance when guests walked in. I found the whole encounter a little strange and decided to have room service instead.

Cons: Drinks on the rooftop bar was a terrible experience. The barman took forever to take our order and twice as long to open 3 bottles of beer, due to the long wait my wife got talking to another guest, when it came time to pay we got charged for the other guests drink, to make matters worse the barman then wanted us to ask the lady for payment, highly embarrassing! We had other issues in regards to checkout, being advised all was in order for payment only to be stopped as we were leaving the property and made to return so they could get it sorted, even worse when I returned home to find additional charges put on my card without my authorization as they still didn't get it correct! Finally we booked a grand deluxe suite and a double room, my email enquiry stated 6 guests but only beds for 4 were provided and they had no roll out beds available, we had to get additional blankets sent to our room with the children sleeping on the sofas. Would I stay here again, probably not.

Cons: The A/C in our room didn't work. We notified reception and they sent an engineer to fix it and it worked for 36 or so hours after that and then blew warm air again. The reception staff said all the rooms A/C are bad and there was no point in moving us to another room. She said it's because the A/C units are old and the outside air is too warm to cool.

Cons: We had booked 3 rooms in the new building, and during the check-in one of our colleagues had to go to the old building since there were no rooms left for them. The room they gave him had a better view than the original one, however, being in the old building, the room was not as good as the one they gave us.

The location was perfect, all you had to do was use exit 14 at a People’s Square and across the road on the corner there it sits. Just a block behind the hotel is the famous east Nanjing pedestrian road, which is alive up until midnight, it’s a 20 minute walk to the bund, just cross the street and head straight down the road ( I used my apple maps the first time and it took me on a silly long route). There’s restaurants and shopping outlets nearby. My room was very comfortable and classy, the bed huge.

Cons: Perhaps state in the information that a thousand cash deposit is necessary as I had notified the hotel my credit card wasn’t functioning. I had to run around and find an atm to withdraw cash. The bath is a little old I think, or the grout. It looks weathered and a little dirty not because of the lack of cleaning but because the grout and silicon needs to be renewed. Also could you please not leave the bottled water in the bathroom!!! Everything else was perfect, so keep It up & thanks for the warm welcome

Cons: I arrived to the hotel at 3pm after 20 hours on planes and there was super noisy renovation in the corridor just outside my door (hammers and drills) and they finished around 7-8pm. They should have told me about that during check-in. Next morning I've asked to order a taxi for me to Hongqiao airport and after 15 minutes of driving I realized that were going to Pudong airport and almost missed the flight (and I paid a lot for the taxi because of that). I don't recommend this place.

Cons: Staffers and Location. Most staffers of the hotel are cold and impersonal. They have poor communication skills and comprehension. They do not take the extra mile to deliver quality customer service and most of them look uninterested doing their job. I had a bad experience involving Bill and Andy. I had to wait for more than one hour for the food that would never be delivered. I ordered pizza at 8:45 pm through Bill. At around 9 pm, Andy went to our room to inform us that we can only order 4 kinds of food, including nachos, onion rings and fries. I said I would no longer like to order, but after he had left, I immediately called the reception area to place an order of nachos. Bill took my order. He asked me if I would still order pizza, I said “no,” because I was already informed by Andy that it’s not available - which is an obvious sign that they are not coordinated. At around 10 pm, I called to follow up my order. Bill came up to our room informing us that we could only order drinks, which was unacceptable. He said foods are served only until 9 pm, but I placed my initial order before 9pm. It was not my fault the my choice of food was unavailable. The information he was telling me was also different from what I got from Andy that I could still order food but had limited options. Bill was explaining that we were no longer allowed to order at that time when the hotel card in our room states that room service is available until 9:30 pm. Andy offered to order food online, but he said it would take another 30 mins. They wasted my time waiting for an hour, but still I had to go out to get some food at around 10pm. Both Andy and Bill seem to not understand what they were doing. Although they were both apologetic, I had a horrible customer experience from them. It was very hard to look for a restaurant around the hotel that understands English and offers Western food. I have to go to East Nanjing which is 15 mins. away from the restaurant.

Cons: Well, as mentioned a couple of times..the rooms are in dire need of renovatio but are clean. After having finished the entrance and also the breakfast area (it reopened on the day I left), the rooms will be renovated over the next 2-3 years. With respect to the fitness facilities, the machines could sue a more regular cleaning. The pool while being fantastic and huge (around 20m lanes)..it can basically only be used in the morning for swimming. Afterwards, after around lunch, there are swim classes with tons of people in the pool which make a proper workout next to impossible and really frustrating. So if you want to go for a swim..early in the morning..or later in the evening.

Walked in the room with a strong smell of wet dog. Dust eveywhere, it turned out because the staff did not like to vacuum the room but only changed the towel and made up the bed. Don’t leave the “don’t disturb” sign on as it is the excuse the staff does not clean your room at all. There were cracks on the furniture, big stains on the carpet. Lights were very dim. No fan in the bathroom, so you walk out of the shower sweating all over again.

Concierge staff were nonchalant at best, I asked a guy one morning for directions to a nearby food street, he gave the directions but failed to tell me that none of the restaurants on that street opened that early in the morning, all of us walked 10 minutes there for nothing. No washing machine, no place to hang laundry. Which part of the above deserves a 15% service charge? From where I come from, the above should entitle me to a full refund of the service charge.

Customer service is different. Don't wait for them to call you to the counter just walk straight up to them. We arrived very early. Our rooms were not ready but they were happy to hold onto our bags while we explore our neighbourhood. Check-in is after 2pm. Check in is very easy they just need your passport and deposit and you're off. The rooms are a bit small but comfortable enough for two people and bags. There is also extra space on the bathroom floor to place your bag for sorting things. The hotel room is clean, including the bathroom floor. The water flows nicely and the bathroom is so spacey which I loved. I don't like shower walls touching me lol. There is complimentary water daily which is placed in the bathroom. Best location to set your bag is the window seat behind the curtains. It's long and wide enough for those big bags. We had a superior room with river view and it did not disappoint. The sun rises at 5am and everything closes late at 2300. There is a bus transfer but it only starts at 6am. It takes 50 mins to get to pudong from the hotel on airport shuttle. But I suggest to take the maglev from the airport to llyongyang Station, switch to line 2 and get off at East nanjing Road. Google maps works here if you have a vpn. We downloaded ExpressVPN and it can do upto 5 devices. There is food galore around the hotel. Yummy dumplings for 5cny for 5pieces and a good meal for 13cny. So DELICUOUS! I did try the breakfast or restaurant at the hotel. I wanted to try the local foods than have a westernised breakfast. Location is superb! The metro lines are very easy to follow. The hotel is walking distance to nanjing Road and the Bund and a 2ins walk to west nanjing where peoples square, shanghai museum and the urban planning exhibitions hall.

Pros: The staff is somewhat friendly Philip and sandy were very good, answering any queries. The bell boy Oscar can also speak English and very friendly. If you have time. Talk to them for a bit. Customer service is different. Don't wait for them to call you to the counter just walk straight up to them. We arrived very early. Our rooms were not ready but they were happy to hold onto our bags while we explore our neighbourhood. Check-in is after 2pm. Check in is very easy they just need your passport and deposit and you're off. The rooms are a bit small but comfortable enough for two people and bags. There is also extra space on the bathroom floor to place your bag for sorting things. The hotel room is clean, including the bathroom floor. The water flows nicely and the bathroom is so spacey which I loved. I don't like shower walls touching me lol. There is complimentary water daily which is placed in the bathroom. Best location to set your bag is the window seat behind the curtains. It's long and wide enough for those big bags. We had a superior room with river view and it did not disappoint. The sun rises at 5am and everything closes late at 2300. There is a bus transfer but it only starts at 6am. It takes 50 mins to get to pudong from the hotel on airport shuttle. But I suggest to take the maglev from the airport to llyongyang Station, switch to line 2 and get off at East nanjing Road. Google maps works here if you have a vpn. Cons: The bed is very hard in the western world standard. But I didn't mind. Just gotta change sleeping sides to stay comfortable. Make sure to check every receipt to ensure you are not double charged. There is a deposit that was about the same amount as the room rate. But the good thing is you can pay by cash which is the easiest and most convenient if you travelling onwards. So we ended up just keeping that deposit for all hotels. No need to wait for our banks to release the funds if we had done deposit through our cards. The front stairs entrance is a little much if you're carrying big bags. But Oscar is there to help. If he isn't. You can always wave out to him to help you with bags. They are very helpful.

Cons: Make sure that old furniture is replaced to prevent bed bugs, bring specialized stuff to kill cockroaches and bed bugs. Repaint and clean walls to get rid of mould/fungus on wall. Get a custom oriented supervisor/receptionist at the reception. While the ladies tended to be polite, the guy who seem to act more like a supervisor was almost rude, I've been staying also at 3 star hotels and viewed several cities, but it is the first time I saw such a guy at the reception and this coming from a hotel that is showing 4 stars outside. I could make a list with other things like uncomfortable beds, getting toiletries for a person although it was clear from reservation there are 2 and the guy at the reception asking to pay more money to actually get toiletries for second guest and so on, but it would take me too much to write all. Just beware of bedbugs if you stay in one of the infested rooms as you'll end up bleeding the sheets, with large red marks on your skin, extremely itchy and white night without sleep.

Breakfast, I did not try (it seemed a bit too expensive to add to the room charge). Staff very helpful, cleaning lady fantastic (very patient since due to jet leg I did not leave room everyday till 2 pm). Air-condition more than perfect, during my stay temp in town was around 35 C my room (19th floor) was so cool I needed to wear undershirt to warm up. I read some reviews that reported not good air-condition?! I am not sure if they were confused and if they stayed in the same hotel. It was a great relief to enter glamorous entrance hall and feel a cool fresh air! Also, hotel had arranged taxi for me to the airport, the driver was phenomenal! I never had professional driver such as him. Smooth, fast but not dangerous drive! Price 230 (one hour drive). Very pleasant experience! I remember all these stories in the US about Chinese not been good drivers! That is just a lie, this person could have driven formula one (driving skills were superior). Thoughts along the way: I haven't seen a car on the freeways and streets of Shanghai with the single scratch! I traveled the world, seen countries, traffic in major cities, but in 20 mil city such as this one not to see a single older or a single damaged car, is truly amazing, unbelievable! What are the chances for something like that! People drive with superior care, no illegally parked cars, all small bikes electric etc!!!!! Finally, all people in hotel spoke decent English and performed their duties with care, professionalism and amazing courtesy! Good luck! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Cons: English of the people working in the restaurant of the hotel is very limited; people on the local market speak way more english (not necessarily better) than they did. Kind of strange to us if you work in a hotel with foreign customers. Even some basic english would be helpfull. Other than that staff is friendly.

Cons: I tried to eat dinner one evening (international buffet) they did not have a steamed rice.... (China and no rice! in a major hotel). I had to wait for them to order and bring it to my table. Also, no warmers trays under the food, so most is cold (for example I wanted to take mussels, there was a wide variety but they were in a pan all jumbled up and cold cold... no warmer underneath, hard to eat cold mussels! if these were oysters I can understand but they were not! Now one thing not related directly to the hotel but important for the traveler: DO NOT TAKE A TAXI AT THE AIRPORT FROM PEOPLE THAT SOLICIT OFFICIAL TAXI THAT TAKES CREDIT CARDS!!! It was one of my major rules not to do that but this time I decided to take it, I was too tired, too look around. I lost a previous flight and traveled quite a bit so I thought to myself even if they cheat me it is not going to be that bad I was too tired to look for truly official taxi.... Well surprise, surprise... Lady and the man solicited taxi ride and pulled me over from the crowd promising cool and official car that would take a credit card. They charged me 4 times normal taxi ride from the airport to the center - almost 700!!!! around one hundred US $! So, beware of fake taxi at the airport!!!
