Nice hotel for seeing Yu...
The room had a view of tall buildings in Shanghai. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was plentiful. The hotel feels remote for accessing sites other than Yu Garden.
Location felt remote for visiting sites other than Yu Garden
1. Hotel staffs specially the...
Norhing special that i could like
1.Staffs are very irresponsible 2. Hotel is so mean to provide the initial facilities such as brush or comb! 3. They ask for recharge because they found some stain ( even they cannot prove or i should prove ) on my pillow !!!!!
It was comfortable and clean...
I like that it was unblocked and we could see the Bund. I like that the small pool was heated. I like the seats near the window so we could sit there and eat snacks watch scenery.
I don’t have anything I don’t like.
Superb
We love coming to this hotel and it is our favourite place to stay in Shanghai. Location is good as the metro is directly opposite and staff are very helpful at getting you a taxi if you need it. You can easily walk along to the Bund and the old part of Shanghai is a short walk down the road. Rooms are very comfortable and breakfast is yum. When we've had a special occasion to celebrate during our stay, the hotel have often upgraded us or given us a gift in our room. Plus we love the robot delivery service just because it's fun! :)
Good location, good view and...
The room decoration is nice and we got a superb view of Pudong. The swimming pool located on the 21st floor also provides a good view of the city The staff was fluent in English, polite and helpful. Absolutely recommend this hotel for its location, the view of the city, tidiness of the bedrooms and price.
The sports centre's changing rooms are not well equipped nor maintained, whereas the other (bedrooms and restaurant) are clean and decorated with taste. The pool is accessible to the public so on Saturday morning, a lot of kids are learning swimming there. We couldn't access to the rooftop bar, unfortunately. Other than that, our stay was delightful.
Exceptional
I loved my stay here! The view from my room was amazing and the staff were really helpful and friendly . Definitely coming back here!
Very welcoming atmosphere and great...
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the restaurant manager Mary greeted us every morning and made sure that we were very well looked after, which was a lovely touch. The location is excellent and we had a spectacular view of the Bund from our room. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Almost everything was perfect, I would mention a small issue with the shower as very hot or cold seemed to be the only two options.
A relaxing stay!
Staff were very helpful. Pool was nice. Breakfast was good. A great location for the Bund and Yuyuan Gardens etc.
A little outdated but very clean and functional!
Superb
A-15-Minute Walk to The Bund .Cosy bed.Friendly staff.)The chef and food on Friday was the most tasty.
The view on the building site .The room needs proper vacuuming, the air is dusty. On Monday some food was not fresh.
Exceptional
Loved the location - so close to the metro and near lovely Yu Garden area which was great to explore. Rooms were spacious, great pool and gym, good variety at buffet breakfast.
There was nothing we didn’t like we had a marvellous stay. With very helpful staff. One suggestion might be to add a water dispenser in the lobby area to refill water bottles. Bottled water was freely available at all times and offered to us regularly. However we prefer to reduce single use plastic. We found water dispensers in the gym and also jugs in the restaurant where we were able to fill our own water bottles. So this was not a problem.
Exceptional
The hotel is beautiful, comfortable and inviting. We enjoyed the breakfast and really loved the staff, everyone was very friendly and welcoming from the moment we stepped in until our departure and getting into our taxi. :)
Everything at this hotel is exceptional. Unfortunately, we were looking for accommodation with a pool and when we arrived, we found out the pool was under maintenance for some time which was not mentioned on booking.com.
We were upgraded free which is wonderful!!! The beds were super comfortable and we had a fabulous view from our room of the Bund
The breakfast wasn’t that good. It was great if you are Asian but usually Marriott hotels cater for all visitors. The pool was closed due to COVID 19
Very good

Clean tidy room. Great location next to the metro which made getting around so easy. Breakfast was good, plenty of options for western tastes. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. They even rang ahead and booked restaurants and spa treatments at places for us.
Swmming pool was closed. So disappointed as this is one of the things we were looking for was a hotel with a pool for our daughter. It's one of the things we look for in China as swimming pools are hard to access.
overall is good and nice , the staff services are good . the room services food not bad and i like the location which near to every where and train behind the hotel . overall is perfect mark .
My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Yuyuan during the Wuhan Coronavirus epidemic. Despite the difficult situation, the staff at the hotel from room service to reception and restaurant staff were all friendly and helpful. We felt very safe and secure staying here and will be recommending it to our friends/family. The hotel is located directly across the street from exit 3 of the metro line 10 Yuyuan stop and just round the corner from the Yuyuan shops.
Room, and to a certain extent, location because it's nearby the Yuyuan Garden metro station.
The front desk persons need to be friendlier. And with such a high-star rated hotel like this, the front desk staff need to have proficiency in English.
Hotel was good.
Frontdesk staff was not warm and felt like they were only doing a job. Does not make guests feel welcomed.
It was a lovely place. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Staff was excellent too!
The tour could have been slower. It felt rushed.
Breakfast at the restaurant with a great view
Bad smell in shower drain, Room service not tasty, Broken shower at swimming pool, and difficulty in communicating in English
Great location, helpful staff, comfortable beds and very clean.
Very convenient location, super close to subway. Great staff
Room are on small size, we booked wing that can see the pearl tower, but ended up with none of the view
Not the first time I stay with this hotel, excellent location, MTR just opposite the road. Comfortable room. But still can be better. Breakfast choices are excellent, taste very nice. but extremely expensive. Bed size excellent for 2 adults and 2 kids. Convenient shop just around the corner. Fast food, shopping, Yu Garden within walking distance.
(1) Initially I booked 6 rooms for 4 nights then due to other hotels offered inclusive breakfast, so I cancelled it and try re-book other hotel, suddenly hotel sent me an invitation to re-book the room will offer breakfast with the same price, but when we check in that time, the counter said it was only 1 breakfast offered, the other person need to pay for the breakfast at RMB 195 ++ per person. What a shame for a 5 stars hotel being so mean especially we booked so many rooms for so many nights. (2) Just be careful with their words when they offering you some thing. (3) Swimming pool is a bit small. (4) Lobby at level 4. Not ground floor.
The courtesy of the staff and their professionally.
Would have been better if the lobby is on the first floor.
Great rooms, location is next to the gardens as well as the metro station. Good welcoming staff; breakfast (to be purchased extra) was super rich.
Such a welcoming atmosphere, super kind staff, very clean rooms, such a delicious breakfast and excellent location
location and friendly staff.
Nice view. Close to Metro station. Convenient for shopping and eating. Staffs are friendly.
Location, was central to everything and walking distance!
Kind of busy but still very good
Location was good as it was close to the MRT, 城煌庙,豫园 making it very easy to travel/ navigate around. Staff at the lobby and concierge were very kind and helpful as well.
The cleaning staff did their jobs but not to the full extent. Some cups were just left unwashed and covered with a coaster, some days where coffee/tea were not refilled (having to call for it) and had left my personal pillow on the floor ( on one of the days). Felt like it was a 70% job done.
Facilities are great with a pool and gym. The hotel is in a very convenient location. There is a metro station outside, close to the gardens and bazaar. There is a supermarket nearby. You can also walk to Nanjing Road in about 20 mins. Great city views and views of the bund. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was not sound proof. The room was expensive in comparison to the hotels on my rest of my trip but I booked this for the city views to ring in the new year and unfortunately didn’t sleep at all. There was a constant droning noise from an air conditioning system or fan that was not controlled in my room and the residents could be heard talking loudly at 4am. This was very disappointing. I was also wearing ear plugs!
The location is awesome. Near to everywhere.
The walkway in front of my room was smelly. They did try to on an air purifier to Curb this problem but it didn’t help much.
Very clean, nice staffs. Next to Yuyuan metro station and Yuyuan garden.
Nothing.
Location was close to Yu Garden. Staffs were helpful and makes you feel welcome. The gym was good.
Very Good Location! The staff was very helpful and attentive!
Excellent location. Friendly, helpful check in. Efficient response to room service.
Nothing
There was a rooftop bar run by a different company, the view was spectacular! Out done many of the 5 stars hotel bar in the city, just wish the drink list and facilities was better.
The decor of the hotel was very dated. Corner of the room was full of dirt and colour have faded on a lot of the furniture but the size of the room is generous. The lighting of the place is too dark.
The beds were comfy and there are english tv channels
The location is really good. I could enjoy yuan at night. And there is a subway station just in front of the hotel. The room was clean.
The receptionists are not very friendly but still kind.
Nice hotel in nice surrounding
1. the hotel locates near Yuyuan garden. it is very convenient from the metro station line 10 exit 1 with elevator which make traveling with large luggages even more convenient. 2. the room is clean and spacious with all necessary facilities. 3. staffs are helpful. we arrived quite early in the morning and they let us check in early so that we could relax before going out. we also asked them to keep our luggages when we went to another city. I have to thanks to their kindness and assistance. Will definitely go back if go to Shanghai again !!
The breakfast is lovely
The lunch and dinner is horrid!!!
friendly staff good location next to subway helpful staff
Very comfortable stay. Staff were very helpful.
The staff
The location was great to the Bund, Yu gardens and a metro station to get anywhere you want. The rooms were pretty spacious and staff was accommodating with early evening room cleaning when we forgot to turn off do not disturb sign. The dinner menu was limited but had great salad dressings.
Nothing really to complain about except I don’t like check in lobby on higher floor.
The location was wonderful ! It is walking distance to the bind and yu garden
It is an old building. They maintain well but still could not compensate the old smell in the room and a hallway.
Location, staff very helpful.
Food service in lobby lounge was a little slow, but the food was very nice when it arrived.
When we arrived we had our room upgraded and the view of the city was fantastic. I also loved the pool with the city view. Especially at night. The location is perfect. The hotel is right outside a metro station and you are only 1 or 2 stops from some of the major tourist attractions. The staff however is the best part of staying here, they are very polite, friendly and helpful. Also very generous with what they give you. And they speak good English in the lobby. I’d definitely stay here again if I came back to China and would highly recommend others to stay here too.

Great location and lovely room
The location was nice
Our initial room was so humid it was impossible to breathe in and the AC didn't work. When we asked to be moved, the staff made fun of us in Chinese assuming we didn't understand. They rushed us about moving, and were not helpful. They then moved us to a room on the exec floor with a worse view than the one that we paid for, and emphasized heavily that we wouldn't have exec privileges. I don't care about that, but I didn't like the effort put into the emphasis. Because of the rushing about moving, I left a piece of valuable electronics in the room (I remember removing it from my backpack, then not putting it back when we moved). When I inquired hours later, someone else was in the room (which means it was cleaned) but they "had not found" the item. While it was my bad (though rushed) to leave something behind when moving, but not cool to keep it. And not cool to be disrespected. I won't stay there again, and am considering seriously whether I'd stay at a Marriott again.
Good location
Great location, across the road from the metro and very close to great walking attractions and shopping.
Rooms are dated and worn out, not a lux hotel by any means. Pretty average big box hotel that reminds of a high volume/high traffic Western hotel. Nothing special, many better hotels to stay in if you're more into enjoying the property as much as the city. perfect if you're just wanting to lay your head down in a decent place and want location and basic needs.
Lovely staff who allowed me to check out late.
English level of reception staff needs improvement: I asked for a Taxi and they told me they would sent it right away to my room :S
Excellent
Nothing
exceptional service - great rooms and really comfy beds would highly recommend to anyone. was really close walking distance to not only the YuYuan garden area which offers loads of restaurants and food markets but also is walking distance to the bund and other areas of Shanghai. great room service as well
nothing
The robot room service was adorable. First time seeing that in my life.
Good location to main attractions (unfortunately the YuYuan garden was closed during our stay) and particular next to metro station which is very convenient. Safe area too. Room is big which is very comfortable and so are the beds which are large.
Would like the room tv to be larger and more brightly lit
Very comfortable location. Good room. Large breakfast buffet.
Staff information were not aligned with my booking. They have tried to tell me my reservation was for 3 instead of 4 persons and tried to sell me a bigger and more expensive room. I had to argue and find my reservation confirmation email were the hotel confirmed me 4 in that room. Then they accepted and moved us back to the original room (which was what I expected. It was good). Not really a first good impression.
Excellent staff who try their best to make your stay memorable. The location is very convient with the subway just down the building and well connected to the rest of the city. The view from the rooms are quite impressive.
The swimming could get a serious upgrade/renovation. Also, the rooftop bar, managed by a third party could also get an upgrade, however the view is stunning !
When check in the evening, i had my friends picking me up from airport and send me to the room after check in. shortly after 10 minutes entered the room i got a call from front desk Ms. Yvonne told me that my booking was for one person and is not allowed to have stay two persons, however, my friend was only there for half an hour and there was no second person stay in the room with me. this is very offensive call, it was only 10 minuted after checked in to the room. I wonder if this is normal practices is such well know hotel to have such unethical way to query your guest. if your guest has done it you may have every right to query but my friend was just there for 10 minutes! thus i am very disappointed with the services level in this hotel, this should not have happen with this level where the hotel position themselves at. Moreover the room is small is very dirty with dust on desk and dirty on the kettle area. toilet bowl is also very dirty and floor is sticky when check in the first day. need to request house keeping to redo the whole room. very inconvenient to get taxi, normally take 15 to 40 minutes to get a taxi to come by depending on which time of the day.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff
Bit more choice on breakfast. The dinner buffet was also limited in choice.
Dame ander Reception
Room big , not newest but best confort. Easy accessible with taxi and subway Great swimming pool for the one that have time to use
Renaissance Hotel is a beautiful hotel in a good position, near the subway entrance and Yuyuan Garden. The staff was nice and the room was very clean.
The swimming pool, on the top floor, has a wonderful view over the landscape of Shanghai, it’s a pity that in the afternoon is often crowded with children having swimming lessons. The last negative aspect was that, on our arrival, we were charged of a deposit of 6000 yuan wich was the double of our room rate for four nights. This sum has been blocked on our credit card for about a month.
I liked the fact that the manager on the floor arranged me a nice start of the day by telling chinese staff to let me do my breakfast first before putting it on roomnr. appriciated this gesture after such a long flight and beijng hungry :-)
Just the location is great.
They charged me more for my room compared than my friend and when I queried it, I was told that it is business so hard luck.
A pool area was quite old-fashioned and poor. But good view of city still indeed.
pool facilities look really old and used
Breakfast was good. Location is great near the Yuyuan Garden.
The staff at this hotel needs to learn the English language or more of it if it intends to host foreigners. They do not understand anything when you speak to them and they need to learn exactly what the word "service" means. The location is good just for the Yuyuan Garden but not much else.
Bed was comfy,Stuff very helpful. Great location
Breakfast
Room and fitness center. Location horrible
Great location. Nice view from the rooftop bar and the swimming pool. Friendly staff.
The view from the room (10th floor) - and also from the terrace - we could see Pudong, Yu Garden and Bund. Very quiet. Realy very well located. Metro Line 10 just by the door.
The air condicionated was noisy
Everything was just amazing!
Nothing!
Good location and the International Breakfast was good.
excellent location next to metro station and the Old City of Shanghai. Excellent service in restaurants. I had a flight leaving early, i.e. I asked for a taxi at 5am and a wake-up call at 4:30am following staff's recommendations and all was timely executed, running smoothly, much appreciated :-). Very comfortable room and excellent bed.
When ordering a set menu in the Chinese fine dining restaurant, I explicitly asked to serve one course after the other. Finally, all courses were served at the same time (according to Chinese customs). However, the food was delicious.
The hotel is in a terrific location — walkable to many must-see Shanghai destinations. The staff was amazing — they called my cab driver to reach me when my flight was cancelled! Good breakfast. Nice lobby.
Charged me twice.
Great location near to the metro stop and Yuyuan gardens. we actually enjoyed shopping in the local market nearby rather that the main tourist part. Short walk to the bund and some views from the hotel lobby, rooms and pool area.
The staff were all very service oriented. We received an upgrade since we were celebrating our anniversary without asking. Overall very nice. The hotel is close to Yuyuan garden and The Bund, many interesting areas are within walking distance.
Nothing
Walking distance to metro and old city.
Cost to value (very expensive). The staff does not understand that major credit cards should not be declined (during the check in process), this hotel is an international brand so expectations should be the same everywhere we travel. We should not have to do cash deposit at check in and the same credit cards that were declined (on the same machines suddenly work) while checking out. It feels like a ruse and/or a lack of trust towards your customers. I could expect that from a local chinese brand not Renaissance.
Location is great, just right next to Yu Yuan and walking distance to the Bund. Staffs friendly and room are clean.
Breakfast staffs are a little not well trained. Sometimes don’t know what the guests want. The lifts are crowded ciz only 3 lifts for entire hotel. Another 3 kinda useless only for lobby to reception.
Very good in any sense
Nothing to complain
The property was clean and well-maintained and the room was nice and comfortable. Everybody tried to help and had a great attitude. But the best part of the entire stay was dealing with the people at the entrance to the hotel where the cars pull in. The staff at the entrance were fantastic very helpful especially two ladies Miya and Carrie. Management should definitely promote them. They really made the day special with their smiles their friendliness and they’re being helpful for all of my questions.
Location was spot on, breakfast was good, staff were excellent
Great location! Very nice staff and clean rooms with nice view
Technical issues in the room
location near to metro and near to hot spot to visit at Shanghai
bed mattress , air conditioner noise and smell of the room
Location is fabulous!
Good breakfast and clean rooms with some very nice views of the city.
The service during breakfast was not very pleasing. The staff under the supervision of the male manager were most of the time wandering around and not doing their job of cleaning up the tables. At one point I asked for a cup of coffee and had to wait for 10 minutes for them to bring it over. However, it really depends on who is the manager on that day, when the female manager was there the staff provided the service that you would expect of them so, in my opinion, it's mostly the management's fault.
Beautiful rooms, super clean, big and with an amazing view! There is a hotel terrace with a great view on the city and also a pool that we, unfortunately, didn't have time to visit but we heard it is spectacular. There is an exchange money machine in the lobby and staff is super helpful! Locations is the best just 1 minute from the metro that will take you directly to train station and airport for (I think) 4 CNY! Also super convenient if you plan to visit other tourist stuff by metro! Also Yu Garden is 3 minute walk and Bund 7 min! The best hotel!
Ony thing we didnt like is that we paid one soda voda in the hotel bar around 7 EUR ! :D
Breakfast amazing!
Staff Cordially
The toilet in our room has to be fixed
Front desk Bill has bad hospitality
They did not find my booking confirmation and i had to book again as if i never booked on booking.com
the view, the bathroom tub was leaking. They didn´t clean m y room on time and i came back to a messy room.
Location was great, the rooms were nice and clean, great service and great selection for breakfast
The location is really nice, it’s just opposite to Yuyuan Garden Metro station. There is a shortcut which takes 5mins walk to Yuyuan Garden. The staffs were friendly and helpful. We asked for extra bottle water and shampoo and those were delivered by a robot, which is interesting.
excellent hotel, Location and room comfort are my highlights
Frigobar was not working
Great location, polite and English speaking staff, great view from our room especially at night(room@16 floor), definitely recommended!
Everything wonderful with accommodation! Only negative point was the food at the restaurant which was not as tasty as the price suggested.
Very comfortable bed. Clean room. Nice indoor pool. Quiet environment. Excellent location. Good size room. Clean lobby. Proximity to the Bund.
Overpriced restaurant. Not the best view of the city. Long waits for the elevator. Somewhat overpriced hotel in general.
Location was very good. Close to the Bund and the gardens. Also very close to the subway, which is the best way to get around Shanghai. The subway line runs directly to both airports.
The AC seemed to turn itself off at night which made it difficult to sleep. Toilet in the bathroom did not work well. It was not clogged, but had be be flushed multiple times to clear the bowl. WE did not opt for the hotel breakfast because of it's high price.
Great Shanghai location, affordable luxury
Convieient access to #10 metro line. A few hundred meters from Yu Garden. Great fitness center and pool on top floor. Great service, especially in executive lounge. Extensive international selections for breakfast, high tea evening and late desserts seven days a week. Long breakfast hours.
Bathrooms showed a bit of discoloration in grout and caulking.
The location is great! You're within walking distance of the Bund, Old town is right around the corner, and a few other great places are walkable too.
Polite staff but more training required to help sightseeing tourists
Staff was responsive and tries to help.
It appears that more female staff are recently hired, which is great. More materials need to be provided to them to help them know what tourists generally ask about. One thing I noticed about mainland Chinese is that that they do not give details but only a generalized answers. The more experienced staff are okay. But the newer staff should be told to be more specific because world travelers are not stupid. The details are what tourists want. Also, give the young female staff encouragements rather than criticisms. And have the experienced staff, who seems to be mostly males, to give the female staff a chance to help tourists - so don't take over but assist on the side.
Great Place to Stay in Shanghai
The hotel is located just adjacent to the Yu Garden, ah historic and picturesque neighborhood the recalls the Shanghai of yesteryear. It is fascinating to walk through the little lanes and see the ancient buildings. The Yu Garden is a real gem as well. The hotel is located just above the Yu Garden subway station and could not be more convenient for getting around the city. The hotel is clean and modern. The staff was wonderful. The executive lounge had great food and a terrific view. Our room was large and comfortable. All in all this is my favorite hotel in Shanghai.
The mattress in our room needed to be replaced--it was a bit lumpy.
Very spacious room, huge comfy bed & free standing bath. Great view of the city. The rooftop bar was excellent and the location was good for sightseeing. Room was surprisingly quiet for location- and I am a light sleeper. Would definately stay here again.
The 3rd floor restaurant was tired looking, and the food was ok but nothing special. I regretted it almost the minute I sat down and saw the tattered menu. The breakfast was over priced for what was served.
