Pros: The hotel was well located in city center. The staff was very helpful with luggage and their property is very clean and nice. It was very quiet.
The strict 4 pm check in was a problem as we arrived about 11 am in the center city. The airport is about 1 hour away by Flybus and leaving your luggage at the central bus station would mean another trip to the central bus station to retrieve it.
The breakfast is the same each day and is a cold platter. Very nicely done with excellent coffee and tea. Very nicely served and the staff was quite helpful in every way.

Pros: A converted townhouse, this place is great! My room was spacious and clean. The two men running the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing and filling. One quirk is they have you leave your room key with them when you leave for the day or for dinner. I assume this prevents you from losing it. You have to ring the bell and they come and open the front door for you. I’d stay here again.

Pros: I stayed at the Hotel Phoenix for 6 nights, which is a wonderful hotel. Even though it is a small hotel, there is always somebody on the reception for 24 hours, which made me as a single female traveler feel very safe. The two gentlemen that work there also took my luggage up to the room, and at check out back down swiftly, you don't even have to ask for help, it was natural for them to carry my luggage. They are also very happy to help with information. For me it was important to see the Northern lights, and they would check constantly for me the weather updates (whether if was going to be cloudy or clear sky, which is important to have in order to see them, also what the activity was (scale from 0 - 10). At breakfast they are very accommodating, making sure that you have enough coffee or tea, always. This is not a buffet where you help yourself, they serve a breakfast plate to you, and they add a couple of slices of ham, but when I mentioned that I don't eat meat, they would not forget about that and added extra cheese instead for the rest of my stay. I felt cared for, also because they would remember those kind of details. The room was really spacious, clean and the mattress was just perfect, not too soft as you usually find in other hotels. It is the second time, that I slept in a strange bed and it felt as comfy as my own bed at home! (first time in Thailand), and I have stayed in many many hotels. Even the toilet paper in the room is high quality! This hotel does not provide lunch/dinner nor room service, but this was not a problem for me at all as there are many different kind of restaurants close by, within walking distance you can explore. Without hesitation, I would stay in that hotel again for my next trip to Iceland!

Cons: Very little. There is no on-site parking, but there are plenty of spots within 200m of the front door. You don’t pay for parking 1800 - 0900 on weekdays. It is a little bit of a walk to get “downtown.” I had no problem with this, but others might.

Location within walking to main sights and attractions food and bars etc (5-10 mins depending where you're heading to) There is a small parking lot for 6 or so cars to the rear of the hotel, otherwise you park on the street and pay at the meter.

Pros: I really loved the hotel. Its about a 5 min walk either the shopping/bar areas or the water! But the staff was extremely helpful with everything!! They kept the hotel spotless and were great at suggestions for everything we inquired about! I would definitely stay there again!

Pros: Our stay at the storm hotel was wonderul. The person at the desk even went out of their way to call our tour company when we missed out bus. The tour company sent a small van to just pick us up. So thankful for that desk person!

Pros: Rooms were very clean and stocked with plenty of towels. Shower was high quality and easy to use - lots of room, too! Breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of food (even at 4:30am there was a selection of pastries left out for those with an early start - really appreciated it!). The staff were friendly and always willing to help. The bar area was lovely with a decent selection of drinks. Location is absolutely amazing, you're less than 5 minutes away from the main street with all the popular restaurants and bars - there's a bus stop just outside the hotel, too. Hand sanitizer was stationed throughout the hotel which was very much appreciated considering current events. Wi-fi was fast and free.

Pros: Breakfast was basic and the hotel ran out of mixed berries on our first morning which was disappointing. The first room we stayed in was on the ground floor and very basic. The second room was on the top floor and much nicer, it also had advise in about where to visit in the local area which I don't think the first room had. Parking was easy to access and free

Cons: The 'double bed' was two single beds pushed together - this wouldn't be so bad if they used a duvet big enough to fit a double bed! Instead they used two single duvets which made sleeping very uncomfortable, unfortunately. The mattresses were decently comfortable, nothing to write home about. Both myself and my travelling partner found the rooms a tad too hot. There's no safe in the room though they do offer a safe at reception.

Pros: Location was the best thing about this hotel. Close walking distance to everywhere but also being at bus stop 12 is a perk. May sound silly but when it’s minus 6 and you’re standing at a bus stop for 30-40mins waiting on your tour bus each morning, you really appreciate that this hotel is so close you can just stand inside it and wait until you see your bus arrive. Another great part was the beer garden and separate restaurant, during my stay we were delayed for 4 days due to weather including 1 day when we were not permitted to leave the hotel as per Iceland’s government recommendation, so having a nice area to relax in, eat & drink with live music was a great way to spend an otherwise boring day. In reference to the delay, when I realised my flight was delayed I contacted the hotel reception to ask to extend my stay and they couldn’t be more helpful, offering me a discounted rate due to the delay and also allowing me to stay in the same room therefore cutting down the hassle of needing to pack, check out& re-check in to a different room.

Heating always on to keep room warm. Bed was incredibly comfy, I think a memory foam mattress. - Fuss free check in procedure, use provided code to gain access to entrance and to bedroom. Pros: The room is spacious, has a nice, modern TV and bed is very large and comfortable. Bathroom is also stylish and has all the amenities including toothbrushes. Note that the beds in Iceland seem to come with 2x single duvets instead of 1 large duvet for double beds. The check-in and out process is fully autonomous using a code, which made it hard to judge the hospitality, although the people we met were very friendly.

Pros: The room is spacious, has a nice, modern TV and bed is very large and comfortable. Bathroom is also stylish and has all the amenities including toothbrushes. Note that the beds in Iceland seem to come with 2x single duvets instead of 1 large duvet for double beds. The check-in and out process is fully autonomous using a code, which made it hard to judge the hospitality, although the people we met were very friendly.
Cons: We are not sure if this is applicable to the whole hotel, but our room was particularly warm throughout the night even while having all heating off and it being 0 degrees outside. Unfortunately our room was located next to a road, which was fairly loud while sleeping.

Cons: The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue.
Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.

Cons: The only downside is you aren't right downtown but it's tough to say really what downtown actually is. It's such a big sprawl of a city so it's in Reykjavik but just not the heart I guess, they have a shuttle to make up for this.

Cons: I chose Iceland to celebrate my birthday, I went with my wife and the hotel started so nice the welcome, but by the end was really disappointing. Really difficult to book the tours as the girl in the reception was saying everything was sold out. We contacted directly the tour companies and booked online. So first DO NOT BELIEVE, if they says is sold out, they have a limited quote and they sold out what they have available, BUT the receptionist should says.... try straight with the company website, but she didn’t and almost turned out trip a unhappy moment. SECOND, reception wasn’t UPDATED about times for the attractions on the city center. We asked about the opening time from the Cathedral and they say is open until 9:00pm. WRONG information as from October to April the closing time as 5:00pm. For the 3 night in the hotel I TRIED to order ROOM SERVICE. on the menu we had pizza as an option. First night NO PIZZA AVAILABLE, out of stock and they offered free sandwiches. Second night same history..... and for my surprise and really disappointment, third day they running out for pizzas. So funny, once I says I worked 10 years on the same industry, Accor Hotels, I placed an informal complain about this situation, they contacted us in the room and send to us 2 pizzas... but all 3 days they says was out of stock, how 1:30am they managed to get the pizza done? Those 3 parts really disappointed me and I really suggest all to look carefully as everyday, you will arrive late night from the tours, so if they cannot manage to have a room service working properly, that means, all costumers do not have food available late night

Cons: The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.

Cons: It was IMPOSSIBLE to sleep both nights, especially when we moved to the first floor - it was only until midnight - 6am that the sound of multiple doors slamming subsided. The sound wasn't subtle - it literally sounded like the doors were slamming nonstop for hours. There has to be some way to change the closing mechanisms!! I had earplugs in and still could hear every single open and close. We slept horribly as a result.
Also, the showers were the only ones in all of Iceland that were not hot - lukewarm at best. That was definitely a disappointment.
