Pros: Fast service to and from the airport
Cons: Sales counter was pushy on trying to sell extra insurance
Pros: dropoff was pretty easy
Cons: It was never disclosed at booking that I would be REQUIRED to purchase liability insurance from national at $20/day when the car only costed $5 total for the four days... They don't honor insurance offered by credit card companies. Full shakedown upon first arrival in Mexico
Pros: Fast service
Cons: Very high price for a car in a bad condition
Cons: Mandatory insurance was ten times more than the quoted total cost. I refused to pay for more insurance and they said sorry. And I. Took a cab
Hidden Charge - Mandatory Insurance
Cons: They force you to buy liability insurance for $34 dollars THE DAY! The total amount I paid for 6 days for this insurance equals to the annual premium for full coverage for a mid size car in Mexico. Employees on a very impolitely and condescending way told me to "take it or leave it". I'm ok with paying insurance as long as they disclose it is "mandatory" and cost at the time of doing the reservation and not at the time when picking the car up. They only show $5.85 daily rental rate when doing the reservation and once you travel and show up at their counter, they communicate to you the "mandatory" insurance.
Pros: Special kudos to the agent who rented us the car. Was extremely helpful not only during the rental process but also in providing very helpful tips in parking etc at the locations we were driving to.
Pros: didn't rent car
Cons: when we got there, were hit up for a USA$22/day insurance fee, unannounced when reserving
Pros: The personnel were very friendly
Cons: It is a little pricy
Cons: I have a premium car rental insurance with Amex that I pay $24 per rental. National wouldn't that insurance and wants us to settle with their for $40 per day. Upon my return and checkin with amex, it seems that agent misled us
Pros: Friendly Staff
Cons: Didn't have the mini van specifically reserved Price was higher than quoted Location of pickup & drop off not as stated
Mexican bait and switch is really a bummer
Pros: local customer service was friendly, professional and helpful.
Cons: Truly, we ought to be able to purchase the inexpensive 3rd party insurance for Mexico at the time we rent the car online. That was not offered and knowing it's required, I would have been looking for it. big drag and expense.
Unfairly required to pay for additional insurance
Pros: Good clean SUV
Cons: When we picked up the SUV, National required that we pay for additional insurance. I advised them that before leaving on this trip, I checked with Chase Visa to confirm that we would not be required to pay for additional insurance beyond the coverage provided by my credit card. I was told over the phone that there is no requirement in Mexico to take out additional insurance and, thus, would not have to do so. Nonetheless, National would not rent the car to us unless we paid for additional insurance. This incased the cost of the rental substantially. I am very dissatisfied with having to pay for additional insurance even though I was assured in advance that we would not have to do that.
